football talk coverage on the van presented by xpinities score the most reliable wi-fi one price five years guaranteed xpinity imagine that niggand jp back on afternoon drive gonna go ahead and uh... get into a lot of stuff here in just a moment but i i i'm taken by this new york post-tweet that was just an out michael urvin makes impassioned defense of forty nine years owner jad york after prostitution arrests and my initial thought my interest did my first thought was i love me some michael urvin is great i love his energy i love i honestly love his story my second thought was i don't know that's the character witness i would call to the stand yeah you know michael michael's been in a lot of places and done a lot of things unlike some of the uh... people trying to cover up for the the fake forty nine years player and just doing in so it's just such a bad way the playmakers been around long enough i feel like i feel like you might actually have a good reason also i don't think you want to hear it i don't think you would fake it so we'll go ahead and maybe
uh... this and was at scroung that up yet that makes sense uh... scroung that up and get to that later but we're just talking about the browns quarterback situation if you heard about this if you see about this if you heard about this uh... apparently the browns are going to start to show on watson week one to talk about that to talk about uh... the time munkin uh... situation situation how he's perceived around the NFL and more we had out to the wise heart right we make it right call kyle right hotline welcome on national NFL reporter you guys can uh... find his youtube channel the shulks report on youtube that once that's kind of how that one works uh... a man of many jobs many skills jordan shulks joins us right now jordan welcome to the show great to be on well it's great to have you here obviously we've been talking wall to wall to shawne watson for a couple weeks now i wouldn't recommend it but we are doing it i'd i'm just curious where you stand in what you've heard i tend to think the browns are gonna have a short leash with him
because i'm i'm not sure how how it's gonna look on on uh... you know two sundays from now my partner thinks they're gonna have a longer leash what are you here i think some were in the middle longer leash has been what do you think six weeks eight weeks half a season i said eight weeks uh... because i'm i'm thinking here is six weeks but the browns take things longer than they need to often i i just think they're gonna it's gonna need to be undeniable for them that he's not the old version of dishan watson and i think that might take him six maybe eight weeks to figure out and i'm a two weaker two weaker i i think i would say some were in the middle let's call it you know if if after a month after the first month of the season he hasn't played well i think you can see i don't know if you'd see one directly after two i know there's some scheduling stuff to the is the first home game week three is that right yeah we three yeah yes so so you know you have that element too um i think when the decision was made it probably surprised some people but
my feeling and my information going into it was this shan was going to be the guy and then i think after the you know public comments the interview perhaps you know there was uh some more thought of maybe we maybe we end up going with uh shidor but i think his experience will play a role and i think there is some hope internally that he can operate the offense the right way one of the things that has been told to me that i think is interesting is you know Kevin's defense fees offense much different than what this iteration will be in the sense that his offense was uh a lot of play action a lot of you know significant reads whereas i think this offense i i would expect the ball um i would expect him to be able to rely more on some feel and um timing and i i wonder if that can't
make a difference i don't know if the dishan wasen that everyone loves in heaston when he was one of the best young quarterbacks in football is still there but i i have to believe based on what i've been told that there is some version of the quarterback there that that is at least capable of operating the offense and then in sander's case you know if i'm cleave and at some point i really do want to know whether or not this guy can be a starter and i don't know if we know that yet you know there's a lot of people in the organization i'm curious what the fans think but a lot of people in the organization that really feel that he can do it and that there is an orat to him and an ability to run an offense once he really gets gets a hold of it and learns it so i'm i'm fascinated is is the fan base completely shifted toward towards shador's it still split oh yeah i know it's it's i nick i would say it's auctioned or leaning heavy shador yeah
dishan wasen's pretty pretty well not like he's just disliked in the city that's there's no other way to put it and and and jordan it's not even just the off-field stuff it's the on-field stuff too this is now year five of dishan and no pay off whatsoever yeah yeah i just i hear that i mean i think you know if you consider the fact that they're gonna have a ton of cap in the next couple of years here and then next year's graph class specifically a quarterback and i'm the furthest thing fellas from a quarterback guru trust me but if you got to anybody around the league they'll tell you there's a handful of potentially really good maybe great quarterbacks in the 26 27 class 27 class and so if you're Cleveland you really do need to figure out if if shador can be a guy and be the guy and at some point you'd have to imagine this season he'll get an opportunity Jordan it's interesting we've had countless debates about win totals and expectations versus vegas you know i actually somehow think my partner and
i have ended up on the the more sunny side he says six wins i actually think they have a chance to win eight games because i love everything but quarterback in the schedule from everything you everyone you've talked to as jenna fell inside or here i'm just curious what what's kind of the expectation that you're hearing for this browns team is it is it top three top five pick i don't i don't think there are top no i don't think so i think they're going to be more competitive than that i don't know if that's if how the fans would think about you know having a team that flirts with 500 i think defensively they're going to be very very good i love the the higher of me michael rootonberg from elana he's players love him coaches love him he lives in the building i think he was a great choice uh for dc and then in terms of Todd munkin you know that was a higher that i think surprised a lot of people but it probably shouldn't have in retrospect
in the sense that you know when when john harbohel went to new york his one of his top choices if not his top choice was bringing in munkin to to be his guy to be his coordinator and i think that should tell you something i think what also should tell you something is that when he left Baltimore there were a lot of folks in that organization who felt like he probably has had his his chance and and maybe he's too old to be a head coach but he probably should have gotten that chance and then cleave on all of a sudden when things i think when south with judensky and he decided to withdraw and go back to jacksonville i think they pivoted in a pretty quickly and swiftly to Todd munkin because of his ability to just i would just say he keeps it very real he's very honest players tend to like that and i think what you're going to see at the very least is an organized football team and a competitive team so do you agree with the idea though that there's a for everyone that thinks this is a tanking season it's not bad it's more
they're going to try to win as many games they can and then ultimately they can't get there they can't get there but the focus is winning i think that's fair yeah i do you know i got so many so much draft capital from the miles carrots rate and i don't think we can overstate the impact of gerat verse i mean nobody's miles Garrett but i was talking to a braiden fisk about this who's obviously was t-race versus for the state and we were just talking about what kind of player he is and how relentless he is and his professional approach i think gerat versus a bare minimum a 12 sack guy this year it was worst case scenario but i think he can get to 14 15 so you think about that and then all the draft capital and obviously it's it's really cool to think okay we should go out and be a top five thick team and get a franchise quarterback but what if the browns one eight games what if they won nine games and top-month and maybe was the guy i think that'd be pretty cool as well oh yeah that's what i want i know i'm sick of losing jordan i don't i don't believe in
tanking of course i just don't believe in tanking i think i think i guess you can get where you want to go but getting out of there i think is damn near impossible yeah i mean it's uh i'm trying to think of an NFL team that has really successfully tank it's not common it's it's also i think it's a lot harder to quote unquote tank in the NFL just because like i don't know i mean you it's such as small sample size of games you know in the NBA it's time like 82 games and teams could tank and which obviously a draft lottery but in the NFL like players don't take the only way that you could like successfully tank is if the organization just decided we're gonna flat out pull it out bad players on the football field browns have a lot of good players you know i mean you mentioned the quarterback and i know that's a question mark but you know they don't need the quarterback to be an A or a B if they can get a C i see minus out a quarterback i think that's it that's a very
competitive football team and i i don't know man i just feel like they're gonna surprise i've said this in the last couple weeks everyone's killed me for it but i do feel like they're gonna surprise some people well we love hearing that uh it and specifically then let's talk about any of the the rookies or anyone you think is gonna be part of the reason why you mentioned Jared verse obviously but for the rookies whether that's fauna whether that's conception whether it's Denzel Boston is there anybody that really kind of stands out to you i mean the two receivers conception on is just you've probably seen in camp he's super electric in a way that they just haven't seen he's got that juice after the catch he's they and they love him i mean they love him they think he's a star and in Boston is like your prototypical x you know 64 220 you know i'm i'm from Seattle big husky fan i grew up a husky and so i i'm biased so i and i see him a lot Denzel Boston but he is a hell of a player you know he he he runs routes he's got strong and he he will be a really good receiver for a long time in the sleep so those two guys and then it should follow
from from Utah he's one of those dudes too that like you know we kept hearing in the draft process that there's not this like rate offensive tackle or guard or whatever there's not a great lineman i think fauna quietly was the best one though you know the Miami kid i went to the giant's good too but fauna was a legitimate top sim pick and you know he's he's gonna be an anchor for them so i mean those three picks i loved and then obviously year two of of swessinger is you can't overstate i'll be interested to see to what they do with herald fan and and what kind of role he has is here a really good almost quiet rookie year and i would love to see him build on that and juckage as well i mean like i said it's a lot of good young players Jordan it's interesting you know we're talking about that i think this season is much more interesting for the browns that i think i think some people just like an go not they're gonna be bad we'll talk next year i i see a lot more variance here but i just look at the a of c north and i feel the same way like i'm not
entirely sure what to make in Cincinnati new head coaches in Baltimore and Pittsburgh for the first time in 20 years like i you could you could spend me a bit of yarn here that the a of c north is back you could also spend me a bit of yarn that it's going to have a repeat of last year one playoff team and that's going to be a one and done team you yeah you could go both ways um think most people inside the NFL think it will be a good division like you know mentor going back to Baltimore you always had that first year coach that gives you you know a lot of pop you know if he had all had it with michael got only one ten games and then rabble had it last year with with the winland i tend to think mentor is going to really rejuvenate that team especially the defense which was like bottom third best and they were really bad last year especially by their standards Cincinnati is i think the most interesting team because they've been really bad out of the start the last three years like all in three one in four two and five there's definitely a sentiment
and Cincinnati that they significantly improve the defense they don't have to have joe burrow outscore people 30 points a game and and then obviously they're just they're finally healthy and it fits for i think it's a wild card as well but i actually think it's going to be a pretty competitive division um do you ask me like who gets the biggest jolt though i think Baltimore is going to surprise a lot of people i didn't want to ask you uh we you know we got Ohio state starting tomorrow and we're in buckeye country and i saw you talk to geno smith and garrick Wilson and kisha and johnson and geno smith said he thinks germa is myth is he told you this is he's going to be the best ever uh that that i mean that's high praise that's what he that's what he yet well keep in mind their cousins so there is i i said that you know i said is there early advice there and he's known him obviously since he was a baby um but i actually thought what garrick said Wilson was equally as interesting because geno said he he he's always felt like this guy is going to be a superstar but then garrick said that when he got on campus uh
Jeremiah like basically there was this there was so much talk about who's this kid you know who's who's this super talented dude and how like is he really that good is he is he there's such a lineage of pedigree of a house they receivers particularly the last several years and he said that he thought he was like a man amongst boys and you know you hear that term but then you actually watch Jeremiah smith and you just think that i don't know if i've seen anything like this and the comp we sort of came up with was you know maybe the best receiver to come out since calvin johnson kishan of course said he came out when he was a number one pick 30 years ago but that's the company you're talking about with your and my smith i mean he's he is as well reviewed a prospect as as a gitson you know he he really will be in the conversation for the number one pick which hasn't happened since kishan three decades ago jordan obviously we're keeping an eye on miles Garrett and the Rams after the big trade in june and i know you had bradden fiskion pretty darn good football player there on the defensive
line on the shelter port here recently i was trying to think about any team that might come close to having the pressure that the Rams have on them are indenaled unretires the mcduffy and Garrett trade and last year you were a couple plays away from being in the super bowl that's how close you were in the nfc title game i'm just like can you think of any team anywhere near the pressure that the Rams have going into this year it reminds me of the suit like the the so-called super teams of like the early 2000s i mean philly had one of those when they got t.o. and they couldn't quite get it done against the pace racing the super bowl um you know a lot of here's the difference all things like super teams i mentioned i mentioned the eagles but you could go back to the commanders when they got outboard ainsworth and they had all this ton of money in that defense i think angel hall as well all these things were free agency based you know i mean the the the the Rams that they they made two massive trades with mcduffy and Garrett and then they had the all time
you know unbelievable moment when air and dollar comes out of retirement so really no free agents percent i mean they they they they signed a couple including jalen wasa is going to start opposite mcduffy they were teammates in kind of city but by you know all in all this is a team that is going to be made up of guys who have been there and then a couple a couple of trades so there's a tremendous amount of pressure uh i don't think any team is better equipped in the Rams just because of the success they've had and you know i've gotten into air and dollar really well and and throughout the process of him deliberating coming back or not we had talked about whether or not this defense like like how we could this defense be and i think the combination of not only him and Garrett but you know biren young and fisc and the secondary and the backers it really it's it's incredible but then you go to the office inside the ball and it's the same thing i mean Stafford is playing the best football he's ever played they have two terrific receivers
they've held off into line running backs they they don't have a weakness um i just love the team i mean Seattle i see adol's going to be really tough as well but the Rams have a lot of pressure i just don't think they feel it i don't think they feel the pressure because of the coach and the organization Jordan i got to tell you you agreed to come on on a friday the last football friday before the NFL returns you didn't have to do that we appreciate your hope you guys i'm gonna play with you have a wonderful labor day weekend and keep killing a buddy we appreciate you my pleasure guys thanks so much take care Jordan Schultz there NFL insider again check out the Schultz report youtube channel must follow that's what we're talking about here in the wisehark right we make it right call Kyle right hotline when we come back we'll react what he had to say and we might we just might get into my 2026 NFL team tears in five minutes on 92
