And that's a reminder to not let Lego Pokemon in the recording studio. Lego Smart Brick brings Lego Pokemon Play to life. Lego Pokemon with Smart Play. You're the trainer now. You just got back to your Toyota truck and you can't feel your fingers. You've been out here for 13 days. Now, 16, 15, you've lost track. You're eating something you wouldn't dare look in the eyes while taking directions from a phone that ran out of signal miles ago. Every bone and muscle in
your body has filed a formal complaint. And the only gas you've got left is in the tank of your truck. But you know what? You're the happiest you've been in years. Toyota trucks outlast outlive. Let's get it. Hey, it's Chuck. We're not promoting the new kickoff. We're now owning it. It's a badge of honor. We're the lunatic fringe that defines our coach's legacy when it comes to this game. They don't get to define that outside the family. It would work out from a different cloth, bro, high winds. He's got it all, man. He's even got the jaw. You know the jaw. You see that jaw and you're just like, yeah, man, that's a dude. Do I want Michigan to beat Oklahoma? No way in hell. I don't know what world I'm living in. This is insane to me. And if you saw my outburst, I apologize. It's show time now. Welcome to Chuck on Bucks. Appreciate you so much for joining me. Keenan Bailey. No tight end in 2027. He's been looking for one in the class of 2027 kind of an H back style to fit with freshman tight end Nick Lauder, who's been a smashing success so far. Nick out 11 in Ohio was offered
and committed about this time last year. But no such luck in 2027. Now Nick has been kind of the perfect tight end that Ohio State's looking for a guy who's kind of under the radar. Nick was committed to Louisville. And then you you swoop in at the last minute and flip him in 2027 had no such luck. You've set your sights on a couple of guys and as soon as Ohio State set their sights on them, income some others on the prospect, offer him some money. Ohio State's not going to match it. They're just not going to do it at tight end. We'll talk about the whole philosophy in a recruiting show that we're going to do here in a little bit because Ohio State now has a commitment at tight end not in the class of 2027. But the following class Luke Sohada from Canon McMillan High School in Pennsylvania has committed to the buck guys and Luke is a 6'4' 250 pound three star who was at Ohio State camp over the summer was at the 7 on 7 camp. He was at the ball state game on Saturday. I took this picture myself of Luke how about that?
I get to use my own pictures now. That's pretty cool. But we will talk a little bit more about Luke on that recruiting show that we're going to doing that will also include the highlights of the Ohio State commits over the weekend as we've got some big ones to go over including why it's Smith with another unbelievable performance J.B. Jameer Brown with one of the plays of the year. So we'll go over that and Luke Sohada on our recruiting show as the buck guys get a boom in three star Luke Sohada who I think there is a specific vision on who they want Luke Sohada to kind of develop into. But we will talk about all that on the recruiting show maybe this afternoon or this evening. We got a lot of stuff going on guys. Tomorrow I'm heading to Texas but before I do we've got an episode to shoot with our buddy Landon Tangoel and Landon has irritated some buck guys this week by doing a show that I haven't watched yet but I have to before we talk that is titled Why Malachi Tony is the best wide receiver in college football.
Best believe that Landon and I will be discussing that. We're also going to talk obviously about Texas in Ohio State and he's got some film breakdowns from the Texas game from Ohio state that he wants to talk to us about. So he and I will be shooting that tomorrow morning. I'll probably post it shortly after that and then tomorrow night Thursday night if you're I don't know when you're watching this. So Thursday night I'll be in Texas my first trip to Texas. I don't know how much of a representation Austin is of the rest of the state or if it's one of those states that just totally different everywhere you go but I know it's going to be hot man everybody's told me going to be really hot down in Texas this week. It was apparently 150 degrees coming off the field last Saturday at at DKR with the at the Texas Texas state game. So tomorrow night. Myself Tom Tony Gurdamann and I think even Ross Fulton's going to be streaming in. Gonna be doing a live show. All Texas Ohio State over on Buckeye Insiders on your on your YouTube.
Come over there subscribe. We will be live from like roughly 830 for a couple of hours. We're going to do it in shifts. Tom and Tony they'll be in their their hotel room. I'll be in mine. I'm the pansy right. They used to do this with with Kevin Nune. They used to travel the three of them together and they would get in one hotel room and they would do a contest and the guy who lost had to sleep on the cot of shame. I'm not sleeping on the cot of shame. Call me a Nancy whatever you want. I'll have my own room. Thanks but we're going to shoot tons of content while we're down there including I got the itinerary right and let me tell you like I think Tom or is a AI like I don't think he used AI I think the dude is literally AI. This itinerary for a three day trip is pages upon pages. One of the things in that itinerary is 7 a.m. go stand in line at some restaurant that apparently doesn't open till 11 and then we're going to do some content at this restaurant. Apparently
some famous spot down in Austin and we're going to record. So if you want to see some food stuff right some restaurant talk and some food talk from me I am from the restaurant business after all Jack Tomatoni from some famous barbecue joint. We will have that for you over on Buckeye Insiders and thanks to those of you who have reached out this week for the mailbag the Texas mailbag show I'm going to get to that as well. We will have that before the game I promise and really a big shout out to our buddy Joe who is from Columbus has lived in Texas for the last 40 years who gave me a great insight on all the things I should be looking out for while I'm in Texas and said to me that his first grade grandson comes running in the room when he hears hey it's Chuck which might be the coolest thing I've ever heard since I started this show shout out to that young man. I thought it was really interesting that Joe told me how fickle Texas fans were and he said that in his experience
actually Texas A&M fans much more similar to Buckeye fans which I found really interesting perspective from a guy who's been down there for 40 years. I don't know many Texas fans are than the ones I've met through this show so I'll be interested to talk to some while we're there maybe we'll record some conversations with some of those Texas fans if I happen to be out in about with a microphone which I might try to do we'll see sometimes that stuff's in real pain in the butt but Monday we heard from Steve Sarkiesian about the game about his team and Tuesday we heard from Ryan Day we also heard from Julian Sain who is as a quarterback man I'm all in I think he is just a crown jewel in his going to absolutely kill it this year but as an interview man this guy won't give us anything I mean nothing he's polite he's nice but it is the most canned standard milk toast answers for every single question that Julian Sain is asked and you know what Ryan Day used to be this way Ryan Day it was kind of a running bit that I did when I first started this show he was nothing but
coach speak talking in circles you couldn't get anything out of him and that's changed he's now extremely insightful which is why I feel totally comfortable on a show pulling up clips of Ryan Day and then commenting on him because he actually gives interesting answers now and he did yesterday so we've got some of his answers and I want to talk about some of the things he said yesterday and of course he was asked about scheduling big out of conference games which is something that we heard Ryan Day in athletic director Ross Bjork talk about by the way I got a story for some of you guys who want to stay at the very end just for the die hearts at the very end I got a story for you but Ryan Day Ross Bjork had both talked about scheduling big out of conference games and is it worth it in this climate and there is a big part of me that believes they would like to jump on the bandwagon of look we don't need to schedule these anymore they're not necessary there are advantages but they're also disadvantages you could potentially lose two conference games and if
you lost that one like Texas did last year all of a sudden you're on the outside looking in and of course we've heard Sark talk about it all off season but this week everybody's dialed in Ryan Day he loves it it's good for college football Sark he loves it it's good for college football nobody's talking about the negatives of scheduling the out of conference games right now man it's game week and everybody in the country is going to be watching so they're pumping it up when you look at the top 25 which just came out and you look at Ohio State schedule this year and you look at Texas schedule this year number one just glancing at this thing a few tidbits and takeaways here Ohio State remains number one Notre Dame up to number three Texas is number four so we do officially have a top five matchup Indiana in Oregon numbers five and six LSU jumps into the top 10 at number eight we've got other big 10 teams in USC at number 14 Michigan has fallen out of the top 25 Penn State is number 16 Washington is number 19 Iowa's number 21 and the Buckais do play now how many teams on
here number four five six 14 and 21 five ranked teams and number four five and six I mean that's a gauntlet not quite as much as Texas is and Michigan falling out despite a win despite a win the other day which we'll talk a little bit more about that I think at the end of the show if we got time but when you look at a schedule like this in a 12 team playoff it's scary to continue to schedule yourself a big out of conference game however Ohio State is Ohio State if nobody I mean like if anybody else is out there still scheduling big out of conference games Ohio State needs to be it's a pride thing for me like this is what Ohio State does they're the best they go out and schedule big time games and they go play them because that's who they are Alabama's still on the schedule Georgia's still on the schedule that's the way it should be man Ohio State's been like this for the last 20 years and I don't think this should ever change but certainly if you go to 24 teams
we better keep playing a big dog to start the year. We're Ohio State that's just what it is. Yeah we've played in I guess this will be kind of our maybe fourth or fifth one that we've played like this you know it certainly gives you some early feedback on where you are and I think it's great for college football and this is going to be an unbelievable atmosphere down there against a great opponent everybody in the country will be watching so I mean this is why you come to Ohio State this is why you go to Texas to play games like this so you know good thing is it'll give us a great you know again data point on where we are and early feedback on things but more importantly just the experience of playing in a game like this early in the season is you know again one of the reasons why you recruit great players to come here these are the types of games and this is why we're here you know we come to Ohio State to play in games like this and I'm sure circle to the same thing to the guys at Texas. That's exactly right don't forget it don't forget it because it matters one of my keys to this ballgame getting the ball to Jeremiah Smith
of course Ryan Day was asked about this as was Julian Sain and Ryan Day talked about Will Must Champ obviously Will they've not seen him call a game in a long time guys have been at DC in a while and it's interesting as we look back at last year's game because last year's matchup Ohio State comes into the game against Texas and you and I as we sat here and talked and analyzed the game felt really good the Texas had no idea what map attrition was going to do he hadn't called a game in college yet huge advantage to the buck eyes this year that advantage goes to the long horns as Ryan Day brings this up now with Will Must Champ they don't know what to expect they're going to have to adjust on the fly. Yeah you're trying to figure out how it all comes together how the game plan comes together how the defense is going to react there's a lot of unknown here coach Must Champs a great coach and we all have a lot of respect for him but he really hasn't called a game in a while so there's unknown here on on how it's going to play out what they're going to do defensively so we have to be able to respond to that in game and figure that part
of it out but we know that there'll be a plan to stop Jeremiah and try to identify what that is and then you know have the contingency plans and put plays for what that looks like is important and Julian is going to be a big part of that because he's got to recognize what's going on and then respond from there so you can't win without Jeremiah being heavily involved you cannot win this game like that this year these guys are too powerful on offense you got to keep up that's going to require Jeremiah in my opinion it's good as everybody else is you can't allow them to just take him away you got to do whatever you got to do to manufacture those touches for JJ say in an archer obviously a huge talking point of in this game as we head into it but same thing last year as both were supposed to be two of the best quarterbacks in the country saying lived up to his end of the bargain arch was terrible the first half of the season he was certainly terrible in Columbus he got better as the season went on these are two guys that came into college football with all the pedigree in the world um different paths obviously everybody's path was different than
archmanning whose last name is Manning just by virtue of that his path very different circumstances but two guys who were the number one quarterback coming out of high school and arch after that game spiraled into a lot of embarrassing games people were laughing at him you guys remember um Steve Sarcusian had patience with him and arch turned things around and Ryan Day talked about arch talked about saying heading into this game think about that game last year between Julian and arch really their first starts um and I know maybe you know actually played a little bit before but that was really their first their first games and to where they are now two totally different players in my opinion you watched it last year as arch played he got better and better and better I thought it was playing some really good football at the end of the season you know and did some really good things in the first game of the year um that you know this past Saturday um you know he can beat you with his legs he can beat you downfield he can make the throws when he needs to um you know he's he's really improved and you know give him a lot of credit for
putting the work in and then also give sark and a staff credit for continuing to develop them a huge amount of pressure on archmanning just like a ton of pressure on Steve Sarcusian these Texas fans remember in 2024 arch started a couple games because quen yours had hurt his ribs and he looked pretty good and as they rolled into the postseason a team that made it to the semifinals with quen yours they were saying that you know potentially they should bench him for archmanning which if you look back at that uh after seeing how he started last year labor day savings are happening now at the home depot select appliances starting at $399 plus save up to an extra thousand dollars and get free delivery on appliance purchases of nine hundred ninety eight dollars or more upgrade your kitchen the Samsung refrigerator featuring zero clearance designed for all spaces with special hinges and slim doors for a seamless look right now at great prices at the home depot you can save on top brand appliances built to elevate your kitchen shop labor day savings at the home depot today off of all it augurs 27th through september 16th US only seastore online for details

game i think it's going to play out so much differently than last year where there was this really long feeling out period in that game and nobody wanted to crack first obviously the book guys get on the board and hold that lead throughout the rest of the game but a real slugfest and this one to me is going to be an offensive game which is going to be so exciting when we look at arch and julian last week week number one against inferior competition julian saying earned a perfect 158.3 pass or rating you can't get any better than perfect something that i think we are going to see more of this year and we talked about this preseason is his average depth of target go up as more he gets more and more confident working the middle of the field pushing the ball down field we're going to see that go up and it really went up in game number one of course it was going to against those guys 13.1 yard average depth of target versus his average of 9.7 last year his average yards per completion 12.8 yards last week that was seventh in the country saying does
incredibly well in all of the pff advanced metric stats i mean he led the country last year and overall pf ranking for a quarterback at 92.9 archmaning against texas was 90.7 julian saying up there over 92 again in game number one but arch is you know doing well to start the season 20 for 27 305 four touchdowns one pick excellent under pressure he's always been a guy who can make things happen under pressure he had three attempts under pressure and completed three passes for 47 yards and a touchdown that is something that julian saying needs to work on when we talk about something that julian saying you know doesn't have over arch it's julian saying under pressure julian saying when we look at the quarterbacks that were in the national championship in the last couple of years going from will Howard to Riley Leonard to Carson back to Fernanda Mendoza the quarterbacks got to be a guy who's going to go win it for you he's got to be the guy that steps up
and takes it a lot of people didn't think julian saying had that in him last year does he have it in in this year i think so it's a mindset he's different around these guys he's clearly showed us he's willing to go run uh he was asked about his touchdown run and if his mentality has kind of changed at all what was different last year to this year as it pertains to him taking off and seeing that run and he didn't give an answer that you know whatever he spins it around doesn't matter we can see it we can see that it's different i think we'll see some more of it against Texas this is a guy to have a game how many first downs does he rush for in this game i'm going to put the number at one and a half does he rush for over two touch or two first downs in this game i think this is a good one i'm going to take the over julian saying rushes for more than two first downs let's make sure to remind me to bring that up next week the topic of the day coming out of game one of course was the offensive line here's what ryan day had to say about that oh line you know some good but some other things we had to improve on you know i think early on um you know we didn't
run the ball the way we wanted to and then it opened up better in the second half um and so you know we'll continue to evaluate that throughout the week and figure out if we have the right mix out there um and you know the good news is we do have flexibility if we need to um but you know we're gonna evaluate the week and see how that goes the good news is you do have flexibility and you know that he's saying that accurately like you do have flexibility you don't have a backup plan right you had a couple of plans that a couple of options that you could make where you could you know 50 50 which ones better you're either stronger on the inside you're stronger on the outside uh are these the best five or do you flop it out with with the en sickle and now you got your best five i always thought the best five would have been moving filled Daniels to guard and having everybody else in there with Austin and Ian at tackle that never happened you got fillet tackle you got to make the decision they're going to evaluate it throughout the week what do they roll out with Texas with um this is a huge decision because if you roll out with the
line up that you started the game with which is Ian more at left tackle filled Daniels at right and things aren't going good and you got to make the switch i mean we saw this last year they were really slow to make the switch really really slow uh when when things weren't good in the Miami game when Gabe van sickle started that game they left him in there the entire first half as things were spiraling out of control for him it was clear it was too big a moment for him and it wrote out the whole first half so how fast do they pull the trigger this week it fills out there and fills struggling and how many series get wrecked it fills out there and fills struggling remember we're talking about a team that last year only got about seven or eight possessions a game there are no nine ten eleven possessions anymore so if you let fill wreck a couple early let fill man that that sounds bad if fill gets beat early if anybody on the offensive line if the
offensive line gets beat up early and you know you lose it lose out on a couple of third downs and punt the ball where maybe you could have gotten a first down it's giving up a huge amount in the game so a huge decision here as to what they roll in uh roll in the game with now the run blocking wasn't great either we're just talking past protection with fill but the run blocking wasn't great obviously play number one he goes the wrong way that's been that been floating around the internet which is pretty sad um but fill could have a big bounce back game here on the on the other hand because fill is a guy who's shown us that he can play very good at times it's just uh it's a matter of you know it feels like when he has a bad play uh it really spirals man you look at Phil's career he's when he has a bad game he said really bad games didn't really bad game against Minnesota last year this obviously was a terrible game for him uh the other day against ball state what was the other really bad game you know obviously I'm not even talking about Miami there's all of them except for
Carson Hensman and Ian Moore had a bad game against Miami but moving on to the young guys and when we talk about these young guys how much do you play him Ryan Day wasn't even gonna entertain that question of like how do you weigh playing the freshman versus uh being scared they might mess mess up etc his answer was essentially you know we're just gonna do whatever it takes to win which is you know whatever it's not an answer but he did talk about specifically Carri Wilder legend Bay Zion Grady now in year two but everybody wants to hear what he has to say about Carri Wilder in legend Bay here's what he had to say yeah you can see the juice you can see uh the athleticism um you know Carri is a hard charger you can see that you can see the energy and the more he continues to show that the more he's got opportunities gonna have Zion's been two years in a program now and has shown really good versatility and consistency somebody that's going to be a huge part of our defense on in all three downs um you know Carri will continue to try
to build his packages you saw he was in there on third down and um but the more opportunity that he has to show us that he can make plays the more reps he's gonna get and um you know we're gonna have to play depth in this game as well you know um so excited to see where this week goes for him and what packages we have in for now remember all off season when i've been telling you Carri is going to eat is going to eat this year what Carri's done now is set himself up to play at Texas and if Carri Wilder makes a couple of plays at Texas couple of big plays at Texas it's cooked it's over he is the man however when we talk about this uh this edge man Zion Grady to me maybe the biggest surprise is so far in game one we're talking about a guy who by all right seemed like he would be the incumbent starter after the end of last year he had him and bow ackinson at the top but he had beaten bow ackinson as a freshman so you're rolling to the off season and that was conventional wisdom
my thought your thought and then all we do is hear about bow ackinson all off season and what bow ackinson's been doing he's put on weight he's a better athlete now he's a more fluid flexible athlete and then we go into practice in bow ackinson is the number one guy across from Kenyatta Jackson every time we saw practice and then you roll out in game number one in its Zion Grady now over the post over the off season Zion Grady I saw many times Zion Grady one of the few guys on the defensive line the younger guy that didn't make a a transformation physically like you didn't see he had an extra muscle or he leaned out and got bigger looked exactly the same and maybe even a little bit and put on a couple of pounds but it didn't look like he made a jump physically when you watch him in practice it didn't look like it stood out as as much as some of the for instance him next to episatani lay past rush moves not even close he looks years behind
episatani lay and then you see him out there on saturday he was really good I mean really good the dude's just damned effective man there's nothing he does great but he does everything really good and he's a dog and I am going to play a clip for you of our guys I am Grady that if you're listening to me and then you see no clip and I skipped the next thing it's because youtube said I got to remove it but I'm going to play it right now we'll see if it if it stands but here is Zion Grady smashing a pulling guard right on his keester now as we move on to this edge position what happens here moving forward bowakinson who we all thought was going to be the starter did play as many snaps as Zion Grady I think that's the way it'll continue to go how did bow look in week one I thought he looked exactly like he looked before active trying his best still stiff athletically maybe a little bit more power and similar to what land and said always wants to engage with
his hands there aren't many moves it's just not it's not the jump that that was talked about in the offseason I didn't see that of course it was not it was just 19 snaps we'll watch some more snaps and we'll see but athletically that's the same athlete there's I don't think that's up for debate I nobody's fooling me that that's some kind of different athlete but you know you become a better player in a more slick player as you get on it you know as you as you grow and get older with more tricks of the trade he's got more power to work with so I expect we'll see a better season from him but I don't I don't think that athletically that's what we're seeing from him now moving on to legend bay who obviously had some ups and some downs Ryan Day was asked about him I think that was probably expected I think you guys saw the talent and then you saw some of the youth so we're going to continue to build on that I think he has the right attitude coming in here every day looking to get better he's open to coaching lock has been working really hard but you know he's
transitioning from from you know being a quarterback really to to playing these other positions so you know we're going to continue to bring along as fast as we can because I think we all see what can be as fast as we can which is so exciting because you know how often if we heard that how often if we heard Ryan Day talk about a freshman saying we're going to bring him along as fast as we can Jeremiah that's about it it's about it which is amazing when we look at legend bay as a guy who you know originally they weren't really going after him hard after they offered him when he originally committed a Tennessee there was not a peep about it like it was like whatever that guy went to Tennessee and then they changed their minds and all of a sudden pursued him like he was a five star and clearly he is a five star but this game dude I'll have state officially the underdog I went over to Calchi America's number one prediction market platform a place where you can make predictions of any kind and trade them in the live market and I took out a $100 prediction that

journey i can tell you when you told us the hilarious story about being in the press box after the spring game by yourself and paul keels or someone else looked over and i laughed out left so i was in the uh i snuck into that box right so the press box has next to it the replay box the scoreboard operator's box the visitors coaches box the radio box and tom and toney told me after the game go in to one of those boxes which will be empty and start the post game show well now there's a rule that you cannot uh record anything live until after an hour at the stadium all right so now my duty for game number one when my duty for the spring game was to go start the live show so i go into the box i go find a box there's an empty box it was a visiting coaches box and i sneak i don't mean sneak i go in there i wasn't invited in there right it's a very scary moment
to just go in this box where i'm not welcome and i'm nervous and i start the show and i look over and and there's windows between the boxes and paul keels is just staring at me like who the hell is this guy that's the visiting coaches box so very awkward feeling well i'm supposed to do it after this game uh the first game against ball state now mind you this rule just has come out that you can't live stream at the stadium until an hour after the game and the reason is they want the you know the the people who pay for the rights to air the broadcast big ten media or big ten network and whoever is the official radio sponsor right they want them to be the exclusive ones to be able to air things live from the stadium up till an hour after the game so these are the rules now my duty after the game is to do what i did in the spring game go find a box and instead of doing the live show
do an eight minute hit my initial reaction to the game uploaded to youtube and get out of there so i'm sitting here sweating throughout the game thinking all right i got to go in one of these boxes and i have got to record this but what if somebody's walking by and they see a guy knowing that this rule just came out right you can't live stream until an hour after the game but ten minutes after the game there's some guy in the ball state box recording well certainly that looks suspicious it looks like somebody who's trying to skirt the rules and find a little nook and cranny to go live stream after these rules just came out and i was terrified so i you know i got to do it it's a pressure moment right i got i got to show the guys hey i can do it right i can handle it toney goes down to the press box times on the field here goes me uh and i go all the way down to the end and i'm looking and i don't see any empty boxes every place has got a box except for one
it's the scoreboard keepers tables in there right they got the old style boxes where you switch it you see them at the basketball game where they got it you know i'll set up that's what it looks like and i see nobody in there and then here comes this red coat the red coach are the ones that work at the shoe and she's looking at me like what you're doing pal and i'm like hey how you doing um do you mind if i go in here and just record something for eight minutes and she says who are you i says i'm just juck i just you know i work for a website and i got to do this nice to meet you uh she's like well i mean i i don't see why not i was like oh thank you so much so wait let me see your badge so i show her my badge and you guys should see the way they inspect these credential badges i mean it is like they don't just look at it they feel it to make sure it's not counterfeit like you're feeling a dollar bill uh which is interesting so i go in i record it success ten minutes long i'm loading it up i'm packing up my bag and as i'm packing up my bag
here comes another red coat now this this is the guy who must be assigned a tidy up this room afterwards make sure it's all squared away because this dude is serious man and he's looking at the score tables pretending not to see me and he sees me and he i say hey how you doing and he's said you know politely says hello and i'm standing in front of one of these boxes where i don't know he's brushing something off of him and uh oh let me get out of your way and i can't get the damn computer in my bag i'm trying to just get it in and get the hell out of there uh so i'm fiddle screwing around with this and i can't get out of his way in time so he's got to walk around me and he was salty so now next time i'm there i'm terrified i don't know what to do or where to go but i feel like there's a bow low out for the guy that wants to go uh record something for eight minutes of one of the boxes anyway i appreciate you guys so much for joining me thank you i will talk to you soon chuck him bucks out
