Potential Debacle brewing up North with Whittingham and Underwood

We're the lunatic fringe that defines our coach's legacy when it comes to this game. They don't get to define that outside the family. It would work up from a different cloth, bro. Hi, Owens. He's got it all, man. He's even got the jaw. You know the jaw. You see that jaw and you're just like, yeah, man, that's a dude. Do I want Michigan to beat Oklahoma? No way in hell. I don't know what world I'm living in. This is insane to me. And if you saw my outburst, I apologize. It's show time now. Welcome to Juck on Bucks. I just wanted to talk about Michigan as they head into the big game against Oklahoma. Last year Ohio State does their job for the Big Ten Beats Texas, Michigan loses to Oklahoma. Now they got them at home. Michigan a five point underdog. And a lot of people think they should be a bigger underdog after week one. I am amazed. I got to tell you I'm absolutely amazed. I thought that what we were going to see out of this program to start the year

1:00was going to be really good stuff. I mean, when Tronmore had the situation, like to me, I mean, obviously it was, you always like to watch a rival in turmoil, right? It was turmoil, but the fact that they were able to, you know, get a huge upgrade in the coaching staff out of that turmoil, you know, that sucked. Kind of winning against a Hall of Fame Coach. And I thought that what we were going to see this year out of this program was, man, things were going to look crisp, buttoned up. You got an offense with a great running game in Jordan Marshall and Sabia and Heiter in a solid offensive line in Bryce Underwood involved in the running game. And they were just going to be dudes on defenses that usually are very solid. And Bryce Underwood mechanically throwing the ball was going to look much better with a quarter back coach. Jason Beck's offense was going to be better. Like I thought this team could potentially come into the game even with a hugely difficult schedule. I thought they could come into the game with only three losses and have that opportunity to beat Ohio State and potentially be a nine

2:06and three team vying for a playoff spot in year one. That was how this all was playing out in my head when I was looking at it. Now granted, this is the rival and the team I hate the most in the world. So I tend to with teams like that, a lot of people do the they suck. They suck about their rivals. Like for me, it's always like fear. Like I fear teams that I hate being good. And maybe I overplay them in my head. A lot of people told me I'm doing this with USC this year because I fear them being good. I don't want them to be good so much that maybe I'm overplaying what they are. But we're talking about Kyle Wittingham, a Hall of Fame coach coming in to Michigan. And game one, the look on his face after that game stunned. He looked stunned that his team was so bad. And that to me has me thinking, man, we saw you talk, push him out. It looked like there was more to the story than then meets the eye. Maybe they just saw some things slipping. Maybe they saw

And maybe my initial thought here that Michigan's going to get five to six good years out of Kyle Wittingham and be a really solid program, a harbored type program where they're winning 9, 10, 11 games every year. Maybe I'm just off. But the start here is unbelievable. And a lot of people will point immediately to quarterback. And Bryce is obviously a lightning rod. And we'll talk a little bit more about him and what he had to say yesterday. But to me, I don't know how Wittingham has a full off season. And comes out after game one against a Mac team and almost losing or losing depending on how you look at it. And says we have a lot of work to do and just looks stunned in the post game comments that he made. Then of course he had his press conference on Tuesday. And his press conference gives a wavering endorsement of Bryce Underwood. Here's what he had to say about Bryce. He's going to get up now. How firmly is he

4:10He's our QB right now. And you know, it's not it's not something that's infinite. I mean, at some point, we've got to turn a corner and we've got to see improvement as we do with a bunch of stuff. We haven't seen improvement out of the coaches. And so it's not just on Bryce. But but and it's not just Bryce's job that is not absolutely set in concrete. Nobody's is. And we got to perform weekend and week out and and become you know, somebody that we feel like it's playing the level we can win with and and that goes flow beyond Bryce and goes throughout the whole team. This could potentially be the start of a really, really rough season for Michigan. And Tommy Carr may not be ready. Tommy Carr the backup quarterback C.J. Carr's little brother. But I don't know how you continue with the toxicity that this is starting to feel like already with Bryce Underwood. Now Bryce Underwood at big 10 media days. I was a little taken aback. I was with him the

5:11full 50 minute session. And the the the the aura of Bryce Underwood. It comes off as though he thinks he has a great freshman year. And here he comes and he's going to be even better as sophomore year. Most people don't feel that way about his freshman year. But it's clear that he sure does. And he said that the thing he needs to work on most for this year is his self confidence belief in himself. I think that he has got belief in himself in spades. And when we saw him at the end of this game pounding his chest up on the step up us standing up on the bench at the crowd looking like nasty like it would seem to me that the reaction in that instance should be like relief. You know you played lousy. You got away with one. You really got away with one. The first ball out of bounds like you can't throw that ball. That's the one ball you can't throw for a Hail Mary. He gets a second chance. And it worked out. And to me relief relief is the emotion relief. Enjoy. But not like

6:14I'm the man because he wasn't the man. He played a really really lousy game which included 120 yards passing up until that point against a Mac team. It was unbelievable to me. And then we see Kyle Wittingham's comments. And then Bryce Underwood gets to the podium yesterday. Bryce asked about Kyle Wittingham's comments. And he said he hadn't heard the comments said that well I'll just play. Here's the here's the discourse between the reporter and Bryce Underwood. It's cool. I don't know how you chose this guy to be a captain. I mean you kind of got to because he's the quarterback. But when you just see this this attitude that he gives off this is not the attitude of a leader man. This is the attitude of a guy that's just really kind of lack of self awareness. And he's just immature still. And it's a shame dude. I don't like to bag on young guys. But that

7:19is just a level of immaturity. Obviously he knew Wittingham said that. He had a day and a half to talk to anybody. He needed to talk to to say how do I respond to this best? What is the best way to respond to this? In the fact that he didn't seek guidance on that. And instead his response was that which was just I don't even know what to take from that. I mean it was dismissive, arrogant. I don't know what to take from it's cool. But you can see in his body language nothing positive about it right? Nothing inspiring if you're a Michigan fan when you see him say that right? I just pointed to myself instead of you're a Michigan fan certainly not. But if I was a Michigan fan I would be so pissed off with the way he is handling himself in the media with the way he is acting like he is the man when he's clearly got so much to work on when he's gotten seemingly no better in the off season. Still his footwork is awful. Everything's a rocket ball. The decisions were terrible. He's out here getting cooked by everybody breaking down the quarterback film.

8:23It's just a rough situation. And what do you do if you're a Michigan fan? This guy won't even get himself involved in the run game. He didn't seem to want to run. At least Michigan fans thought last year Sharan Moore was the reason that he was being held back in the run game. Was that the reason or does this dude think he's just a pocket slinger? I don't know man. I don't know. But they got serious issues. And as far as that that game they got the win right? But did they really get the win? I mean they dropped out of the top 25 for one. And the Mac is appealing it. Now the Mac's not going to win the appeal. The Mac originally said they were fine with the Big Ten's explanation. But then they they changed their mind after they found out that the protocol was not properly followed. That it wasn't a judgment call that the protocol was not properly followed at the end of the game. So what really happened at the end of the game? You hear about a different clock that the refs had an NBC of a different clock. What is the official clock? Are there multiple

9:25clocks? Why are there multiple clocks? Well, here's the thing. There are not multiple clocks. There is one clock. There is one clock. There are multiple feeds. The issue is a feed issue. So the official clock has to be the one that the coaches see because they're making decisions from it. So that's the clock in the stadium, right? That is not an issue. Everybody agrees upon that. Now both NBC and the Replace Center have their own cameras pointed at that same clock. Well, if you have two different cameras pointed at a clock, those signals to two different destinations on two different networks sets of hardware are going to be slightly different. One's going to lag at least a tenth of a second behind the other, right? So what the referees are seeing on their feed and what we're seeing on NBC's feed on the screen could seemingly be a tenth of a second to six tenths of a second different, right? All right. Now that's where we're at. The referees used their feed. They used their feed, which had a second left on the clock. The one we were seeing, the NBC feed with their

10:30camera pointed at the game clock had zero. What do you do in this situation? Well, according to rule 12-6-1-C, the rule states that all instant replay reviews must rely exclusively on video evidence provided directly by the broadcast production or other video feeds available to both replay officials and television producer, which means what they needed to defer to to properly go through this rule, the protocol, was the feed time that the NBC studio was seeing, the one that we were seeing on the screen. That is the official one, according to that rule that they should have been going by. Had they gone by that, there was no time left. Now, you can say you don't agree that there was no time left. We've seen some other videos. Did that play really take nine seconds? I don't know. Who knows? I've seen some footage of a guy that

11:35just showed maybe the clearest footage yet. I'll play it. But I can't see where the ball hits, where the ball lands. To me, it doesn't matter. Really, it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters at this point was the big 10 replay guys by that rule needed to be using the feed that everybody else was seeing, that NBC was seeing, and they didn't. That is the beginning and the end of it. The Mac now appealing based on that rule to the Playoff Committee, to the NCAA. I don't know how they're going to recognize it, but I'll tell you this. If you're a Ohio State fan, irritated that they won that game, keep in mind. If Michigan ends up nine and three somehow, and they're in the Playoff Hunt, everybody saw that game. If you and I are on the Playoff Committee, and there are two, nine and three teams in Michigan's one of them, are we saying these are two, nine and three teams? This team's nine and three, and then Michigan with the first game.

12:38Perception is reality. If you're a Michigan fan, you won that game. If you're the majority of the rest of the country, they think that Western Michigan got jobbed. It doesn't really matter when you pull up the ESPN stats that they're currently wanting to know. The Saggering ratings, for instance, even have Western Michigan winning. They dropped out of the top 25. People are seeing this as a loss. That's really all that matters because it's not, I mean, it's an out of conference game. It's not a big 10 win. It's just about perception. Perception is reality when we talk about a system when you are voted in by people. So just an unbelievable situation, man. And I guess we'll talk again about them after the Oklahoma game. But obviously, the program I follow the second most outside of Ohio State is Michigan, which is why I talk about them from time to time because a couple of bright spots, obviously, on that team, JJ Buchanan is a stud wide receiver. We talked about him in the off season.

13:41He's now got a couple of wide receivers, right? Troy Bulls emerging as a dude linebacker. That's Todd Bulls son, transfer from Georgia. He was a five star. And linebacker was a position that they were kind of nervous about. Well, you got to do now. So there is some promising things when you look at the team. Quarterback, Tommy Carr is not ready most likely. And you're stuck with Bryce. So I don't know what to do here if I'm a Michigan fan, but I would be kind of apoplectic here about the start of this season, about Kyle Wittingham, about Bryce. And it's just, it's an unbelievable set of circumstances that this is where they're at after locking in to a Hall of Fame head coach one week into the season as an underdog hosting, you know, the other game of the week with Oklahoma coming to town, and Brett Venables against Bryce Underwood. I can't wait to see this. Unfortunately, I'm not going to see it. I'll be at the Texas game. And I don't even know what time the other
