Kansas City Chiefs gear up to face the Indianapolis Colts in a pivotal AFC showdown, with questions swirling around Andy Reid’s offensive philosophy and Patrick Mahomes’ passing rhythm. Can the Chiefs repeat their ground-heavy, dominate-the-trenches formula after last week’s surprising offensive outburst? The conversation focused on key matchups: the Chiefs’ offensive line versus DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart, Chris Jones against Quenton Nelson, and whether Kahlil Benson and Jaylon Moore can hold up in the pass game.

A key theme that emerged was the Colts' struggling pass defense and how Xavier Worthy’s breakout potential could stretch the field against an inconsistent secondary. The discussion explored critical X-factors, including the impact of Kenneth Walker and the chess match between Lou Anarumo’s defensive schemes and Mahomes’ quick release. Will Jonathan Taylor carry the load for Indianapolis, or will the Chiefs’ revamped run defense force Daniel Jones to beat them? Don’t miss this comprehensive preview of a must-win matchup for Kansas City.

We're going to give you our normal prep for this game, shorter week for the Kansas City Chiefs, but our X factors and our predictions for what's going to happen coming up later in the show before that we'll get to those must win matchups.

How do they attack and win against the Indianapolis Colts? And we start where we always start is where is the state of this team? It has been a bit of a short week and there have been a couple of guys out at practice. Nothing too dramatic I don't think, but it's going to come down to are you able to go repeat what you did last week? Absolutely out of character for this offense. And I think it's definitely repeatable, but I don't think they have to. I don't think they have to and I'll be very curious to see if they even try to be quite honest. I think that you look at this and it's going to be different. We talked about this on the squad show a little bit last night if you haven't seen that go check that out, but the reality is this is a much different defense than what they face last week against the Broncos. And that changes everything. The Broncos have one of the best past defenses in football. The Colts could be good, but if you take week one into account, their past defense looked at rocious. So the question becomes, you know, is that going to get worked out on the cold side?

I don't know. The real answer here and the real thing is is that you look at the cold defense versus the Broncos defense. And although the Colts have Lu and Arumu as their defensive coordinator, I don't know that this is really going to be a situation where Kansas City feels like they have to run the ball as much and they have to establish the run because I do think that they're going to look at last week's game and they're going to say it would be great to get Patrick Mahomes started better than two for 12. Yeah, and that's fair, but it is Lou. So he's going to give you those high shells. So I think the quick past game and the run gamer, what's going to start this game off? We'll talk about more of what those matchups look like. But you're right. The past defense in particular was just bad. And I have to think that's more on the secondary than it is on the front of the Indianapolis Colts. You got four pressures from Evocamp. You got another pair from Leotu Latu who played, I think pretty well and honestly should have had a couple others. And they got their interior defense line getting a little bit of push to from Buckner and Stewart both getting some pressures, both getting hits on the quarterback.

So that brings it back to the interior three of the chiefs offensive line has to do their best work this week, just like they did last week. And I think running the ball beat them up a little bit is probably still the way to go. Yeah, and I'm not saying that they're not going to run the ball. I'm not going to say that they're not even going to try to do a lot of what they try to do last week. I just don't think they do it in the same quantity that they did last week. And I also don't think that they tried to get the ball out as quickly this week. I do think that they looked at the past rush and said, we're not going to give the Broncos past rush a chance to beat you. The reality is the Colts don't have the same past rush that the Broncos do. You could say me the de Force buttoner is close to Zach Allen if you want to put it that way. But other than that, I don't think that they're really comparable when you're looking at the past rush styles and the past rush ability of the Broncos versus the Colts. So I do think that we could be seen in an instance of more down the field plays or more intermediate plays and trying to get the play action passing going. Because I think you're right. I do think Andrew was going to come out and try to do some two deep shells and play that

type of game. But the other reality is is that they wouldn't watch what the chiefs did against the Broncos. Are they really going to try to just let them run the ball because they will get run over if they do? They will. And that's that's the big question is how much does Lew want to play lose game because he's been successful against Patrick in the passing offense before. And how much do they have to react exactly how much do they have to react to what they saw on Monday night and try to come fill that box and take away some of those lanes. Although I would argue that some of the best plays were when the box was packed and it was for goal. And obviously Walker is able to bounce it out. So is Emmett if for charge Smith gets in there. He can bounce it outside too. So compacting the offensive line, the whole formation and pulling the Colts in, I think still plays in their favor. No, and I'm not going to be surprised if they don't, if they do that. I think that that's certainly a possibility that you can be looking at that they're going to come in and they're going to compact things and they're going to run some of the same

formations. I just don't think they run it 50% of the time or basically 50% of the time, which is what they did against the, against the Broncos. I think that you're going to see something closer to probably 50% pass, 55% pass and 50 or 45% run, maybe even a little less, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they just continue to stay with it and they're looking at this from the aspect of we're going to ride Walker for the first four games and try to get through to the buy week and then reevaluate where things are. That could be, I hope that it's the latter because I think it helps you set up to be able to take that middle section of the season and have so much run game on film that you could then can get really creative and have better shots to take. That's what I'm hoping for. You have to be excited because they now have a fullback on the roster. Actually, they got a pair of them. I'm counting, Kyra's talking as a fullback at this point. His post game comments were very interesting in that that he's willing to do anything, but he knows that yes, he's played the position before and he's able to do a little bit

everything. That's what I'm talking about. I think a defensive lineman catching a touchdown is in our future. I just don't know if it's this week or some other week, but it is going to happen. Catching, running. Yes, yes, yes. Throwing, I don't know. There's those will be mighty mad if somebody else gets to throw a pass. That's true, but they've done it before and I just, I can't see them putting Chris Jones out there on the field on offense. I just can't see it. I mean, it's not going to shock me if it happens at some point, but I just don't see it happening. We'll see. But the reality is, is you look at all this setup and you look at how they did things. The big question that you have going into this game is, or the lineup is going to be much different because obviously you're taking one of the linebackers off. You had McDonald go to IR. That is what it is. He's not going to be there. But now you have the fullback that's going to be there. Is he going to get time at the actual fullback position? Or is he just going to be a core special teams guy?

Because that's all he really did. I'm not saying he can't do the fullback stuff because he can. I know that. I know he's done it at other places, but they didn't use him in that aspect in this last game. Will they going forward? We will see. The other thing that's going to be interesting and that I'm really going to be focused on is the inactive list. How does that change this week? Because the injury list hasn't really changed much other than, you know, luxurious need is limited in practice on Thursday. My guess is he'll probably be limited on Friday. I would think he's still probably plays, but the reality is you're looking at Mansor Delayne had a full participation in practice both days. Yeah. That's all that really matters. Chris Jones is limited again with a calf. I don't think that that's really an issue. I think you're going to see the same thing where he's limited all week probably. There's no reason to push him. He knows what he's going to be doing. He knows the defense. Let him go out there and do a little bit of warmups and rest the calf for Sunday.

Yeah. Let's see how that all comes through. Ben Sumer and I think is going to be one of the X factors. We'll do that coming up later. But first, how do they get this job done? The must win matchups are not where you expect them. David Harrison here at the Lockdown Commanders podcast. Talk about butcher box. I'm someone who's always trying to make sure I'm getting enough protein for me. That gets a whole lot easier when I've got a freezer full of the good stuff. Welcome to your most rewarding NFL season ever only on Fandwell. How rewarding are we talking? Most rewarding than a touchdown as time expires. Yep, definitely. More rewarding than an 18 point compact. Yes, it is going to be more rewarding than that. And maybe even more rewarding than O-Lineman catching a touchdown and even better than what we're going to see as a defensive lineman against the catching and touchdown. I think that's going to happen. If you do, you can get in the action. You can do it from anywhere because the change in this chief's offense is really going to drive a whole lot for you. Chris is over at Casey Chiefs corner. I'm over at NFL 33 in our GR football. Check those out as well. Must wins for me still comes back to what was a surprisingly solid outing last week. And that is the pass verse against the opposing quarterback. Now, Daniel is I think more mobile than I would call bow all the bow can move around pretty well. It's the flustering. It is both sides of the defense, meaning the coverage and the pass verse working together. And if they are able to get that much time as they did against the Denver Broncos, I think this pass verse can get home. Obviously, there's a couple of premier matchups inside with Chris Jones. I think that's probably the number one thing to watch.

But again, if he's drawing doubles, it helps everybody else out. Yeah, it does. And the question is going to be what else is going to happen on the field when you're talking about the pass rush. Is it going to be one of those things with, you know, is FAU going to be on the interior and getting pass verse there is, you know, is our Mason Thomas going to be giving you pass rush? Both of those guys were able to get home and that's important. George Hulloff just even got some pressure. Not what you would necessarily hope for. The Broncos' offensive line is very good. They have a very good offensive line. They've been playing together for quite a while. So to get the pass verse to the chiefs did, especially considering they weren't blitzing a ton, tells me that they're going to be better this year than they have been in the past. And that doesn't even take into account what Peter Woods, I think, will eventually do. I think he's still acclimating to the game at this point. Quite frankly, though, for me, this is going to come down to a question of, can Spagnolo slow down Jonathan Taylor? Because if they take the running game away from the Colts, that is going to be a problem

for anyapolis. And anyapolis actually had a guy mispractice today that didn't mispractice yesterday in Alec Pierce, going to be very interesting to see how that affects the passing game as well. Yeah. The run game really comes down to who can get things done last week. And again, folks, you know how I feel about pass verse and grades on PFF or anybody else, really, but arguably, not arguably because what I watched of it, their best pass blocker was Jonathan Taylor. That's not going to get it done. But their best run blocker was probably Ty Warren from what I saw he was getting it done, Quentin Nelson is Quentin Nelson. So he and Chris are going to be a major matchup. But what else you can get done, especially at the tackles with Raymond. And then I'm not sure that Raymond's necessarily a weakness, but I don't think he played his best game last week. So we'll have to see how that comes through. But Braden Smith, I'm not impressed with. I think he can be had George Carloptis is going to have probably the best matchup. And I won't be surprised if they rotate our Mason over there to try to give him some

fits around the edge because while Raymond, I think, can especially set vertically well enough to combat speed, I'm not convinced of that for Smith. Well, and let's not let's be also be honest. We're also a week away. We're also a week removed from Jalotti coming back from his injury and not being able to do anything. And I'm not saying the next expect a ton from him for the next couple of weeks, because I think he's still going to be rounding into shape and we'll see how that goes. But I do think that he's going to be able to give you more pass rush. And I think that that's going to be a big thing. But you know, you look at it from the chief's perspective, it goes back to, you know, the offensive line play for them. It becomes a question of can Khalil Benson have another good game and can Jalen Moore be okay? If they can do that, I think you have to feel very good about this passing attack against the Colts. Even though the Colts have very good corners, you're only going to be able to do so much against Patrick Mahomes if he has time. The question is, is he going to take that time because he was one of the fastest quarterbacks in the NFL in a week one, getting the ball out?

And I think that has to continue. I think the prime time matchup on the chief's offense is that left tackle spot. And I think the plan needs to continue because Benson played well in that game plan of getting that ball out quickly and running the ball behind him. One of the better run blockers on that line last one. I think that can continue. So the question becomes, is Andy going to double down and continue that or is he going to start to drift away from what worked? And I'm here to tell you that the edges in Indie are able to take advantage if you're not going to help him out and you're going to hold the ball longer. So I think that's a mistake. No, I didn't agree with you. I think if you're looking at Arden Key is a guy, he's not Nick Benito, but he can't give you pass rush. But the question is, is how much time are you going to give him? And if you're doing a lot of deep routes, which they didn't do against the Broncos, then you're putting Benson in a bad spot. So that becomes the other question. And that kind of goes back to what I said in the first segment about the inactive list.

Do they go with four tight ends? Do they go with an extra? Do they, you know, is Diego Pounds active in this game? I'm not saying he's going to start, but look at what they did last week. They used all of their offensive linemen at multiple, in multiple different instances at different times. Norzad was by far the one that was most used, but I saw Callie Indie out there. I saw Zoodoo out there. So what are they going to do in that regard? And how are they going to address it there? Because I do think that that's going to matter. And if they can get the running game going to where they could average 120, 130 yards, 50 yards on the ground, almost every single game, they don't have to be asking Benson to do a lot because he's going to be doing plenty bulldozing people over. You want to use him to his strength. That's how you use him to his strength. And one of the happiest people on the field with that was Patrick Mahomes watching Ken Walker do it. Walker did. Yeah. And I personally think we need to see that again. I will say this.

For what was a heavy load of carries and touches for Ken Walker, I think he can have more success per rush without having to have as many carries. I want to see Emmett get a little bit more balance in there as a one, two punch on a second week where Ken Walker was so much of the offense. Yeah. I would love to see that too. Although I'm not going to lie. I would love to see Bershart Smith out there. It's just a change of pace. It's with different things. They have so many things that I guarantee you that they have set up for this offense. It's just a question of are they going to use them? What we're going to find out this week that we didn't know last week is this was week one, a product of preparation because they had all off season to play in for the Denver Broncos and know specifically what they wanted to run for the Denver Broncos. Or is it because they executed well and this is what this team can be if they execute and do what their game plan is every single week, but they're not going to have as much time

to plan for each team going forward. Yeah, that is true. You have to find the thread and you got to carry it through week to week. You can't replicate it week to week because sustainability is something that ebbs and flows. And especially right now when we're waiting for a couple of guys to come back, I think that is going to be important. There are some x factors on the positive and on the negative side. And I'm more concerned right now about the negative in one particular position on defense. That's next. Support for today's episode comes from indeed sponsor jobs. Price picks run your game. Now mine's going to be long win it because I have an X factor on X factor matchup.

So let's start with what you think. And honestly, the X factor this game to me is going to be Eric being a me and you read. And I hate saying it that way, but the reality is that it comes down to how they learned. And really, I don't know that it's necessarily be in a me. It's more Andy Reid. Did he learn last week? Because I will say this, it was really funny. There was a clip out there that shows Andy Reid with that play call, fourth and one. And you see him watching and looking at the field and then right before the ball snapped, you see Andy Reid's face turned to a smile. And it's because he knew the look that they were getting and they exactly what was coming. He didn't know it was going to be a touchdown. But he knew that the first down was going to happen. The Walker was going to bounce it outside. And it was going to be they would keep running place. Obviously, again, didn't know about the touchdown, but he knew that specific play was going to work because of how they've been practicing against it all week long. So it's going to be the question of has Andy Reid changed his stripes and is going to play

to the advantage of Patrick Behoam's by taking the ball out of his hands a little bit to an extent because he's not throwing the balls much. That is that is a great question. And it can they force themselves to that point. I think that's going to be a challenge. I am, I want to call out, and when I say X factor on X factor, unfortunately for the chiefs, this is in the negative because what we know is that Cooper McDonald has gone to a IR, maybe the best pass catcher. And certainly the passing game focus for the Indianapolis Colts is their second year tight end to the Warren and covering him with Jack Cochran because they're going to force the chiefs into the base configuration more so than the Broncos did. That's what I'm concerned with. I'm concerned they'll move Warren around who I think could be an X factor on any given day. But if they specifically move him around to get that match up against Jack Cochran, that is something the rest of the defense has to be aware of.

Put some more pressure on the safeties, which you might con around. The guys have to be more aware. I expect to see a little more Tampa 2. In fact, I think the interception play was, I think it was CRW, playing that middle safety robber role. And I think we're going to see more of that because they have to have an answer for Tyler Warren. Well, I do think that's while they may try to force them into base, my question is, is are they going to force them into base? Because the other thing that you saw in that game was, yeah, they say it's going to be Cochran. Boss was the one that was out there the most that I saw. It wasn't Cochran. I mean, they win a couple of different directions. But you also have a situation where you could go and put Jayden Hicks down in the box, letting him guard the tight end. It's not as good as a match up when you look at it from the running perspective. But I think you would feel pretty good about that match up versus the tight end. Versus trying to have Cochran out there who you don't feel comfortable with.

But obviously the cheese, they're saying they feel comfortable with Cochran. I don't know that I really buy that. Spag said it today, that's my concern. Is he talked about Cochran overboss it today? They only had, it was three in five snaps, respectively, on defense. So I won't put it past Spag. That's interesting because it sure seemed like I saw boss out there a lot more than I ever saw Cochran out there. Regardless, I think you look at this and the big thing to me is going to be just a matter of, we've already talked about the Colts running game. And if they can get the running game going, that completely changes what their offense is going to be able to do. But the reality for Kansas City is the real big X factor for this chief's offense is going to be, can they get the wide receivers going? Can they get Rashid Rice and Xavier worthy going against, you know, sauce and mord? If they can, that says way more about things going forward than it does with them having a bad week against the Broncos or what you would call a bad week against the Broncos.

To me, it sure seemed like it was more of a game plan centric non usage than it was anything else, especially considering if you look at it, Mahums went what, 13 for 15 down the stretch after starting two for 12. And some of those past plays were either knockdowns or pass breakups by the DB. So again, what Mahums do we see out there changes how this pass offense can work? Yeah, that's for sure. And the final X factor for me is someone has to step up in that past game. For me, it's Xavier worthy. He's taken a lot of grief this week about being a bust or for all his speed not being able to affect the ball game. I'm going to say this that it is more on Patrick and the timing than it was on Xavier last week. And so when you look at where the weakness is in the secondary in the inapolis, you're talking about the safeties in particular. They have to go attack the safeties. Cross had a really bad week last week. Biden played pretty good, but in relief when they went to three safety set, they were getting

things done. Chavarys Ward discussed this week about having continual concussion symptoms. Yet he's not in the protocol. And there wasn't any one thing. He's just got general headaches all the dang time. Like he almost retired off of it. I think that affects his performance as well from what I saw last week. It wasn't great. I think he gave up. Yeah, he gave up 100% completion percentage. So for me, maybe it's Taikwan because he has that speed deep too. But I think it's Xavier stressing those safeties out down the middle of the field. Well, and when you get into the game plan and you get into how this is going to work, it's a question of are you going to be moving the ball around? Are you going to throw the ball at multiple different targets? Because the reality was last week. It was more the running backs. And Xavier worthy got a ton of targets, but didn't get a ton of catches. Travis Kelsey got a couple of targets. But it wasn't really a wide receiver focused game plan because they were getting the ball out quick. They were trying to be a short passing game. And that is not going

to lend itself to the wide receivers. And even to the Titans to an extent, even though you had multiple Titans get a catch in that game. So I'm going to be very curious to see how they changed the offense this week compared to last week. I do feel really good about this game. I will say I don't think it's going to be particularly close or it shouldn't be particularly close in my mind. That's great. So tell us what it is going to be then. You know, I look at what the chief did on offense last week. And I think that if they come out and they focus on the run like they did last week, they should be able to run the ball against the Colts. And I'm not saying that they have to go for 200 yards like they did last week. But I do think that they should be able to go for, you know, 120, 130 yards rushing between the two backs. And if they do that, it's going to open up the passing game. Now, my home's may still not throw for 300 yards, but she don't need to throw for 300 yards if you're if you're getting 130 yards on the ground. Like the reality is you just need to be efficient and you need to be able to move the ball just a little bit. So, you know, I still think that the chief's win this one. I think it's going to be,

I think it could be a very lopsided win to be quite honest because if the chief's offense comes out and plays anything like what they did last week and the Colts defense plays anything like what they did last week, Kansas City could score 40 points. Now, I don't think that's going to happen. I'm still thinking Kansas City gets to about 31. I'd say the Colts gets to 17. Okay. I'm going to think that Andy's going to back off the pedal at some point because I agree. I think it could be fairly lopsided. But everybody gets a chance to reset. Week one, there's a lot of things that get fixed the following week. And I think that the Colts have enough coaching and enough leadership that they're going to fix a couple of things. So, I don't think it's going to be quite that lopsided, but I think the chief's will pull away in the end. I'm going to call it 2817 and keep it a little bit tighter. But the chief's go to 2-1-0. If everything works out the right way and I think Chief's Kingdom is going to be pretty happy. Let us know what you think. Put your prescription predictions down in the comments on YouTube and
