Hello chickens, we're fine, not well, Justin's in Adelaide and we are having quite the time. Talking about the latest episode of lanterns, episode six, is that what it was? Yeah. I think it's episode five and I think it's because that's what I want it to be. I'd like to keep watching this for another, like I wish it was like the pit. I'd like to have 15 episodes of the happily.
Yeah, 15 episodes of this would be a mate. Although I could do with fewer episodes of Nathan Phillian. Oh, no. I know Guy Garden is supposed to be annoying, but the result is he's annoying. Yeah, but you know, what I appreciated about this was it was quite clearly still Nathan Phillian's Guy Gardner, but it was the one that we've seen in peacemaker. No. The tone, he's been very good at being able to be a version in peacemaker and a version in Superman and then this version, which is more grounded and more serious and it still feels like Guy Gardner, but it feels like a slightly different flavor of him and I appreciate that. Yeah, and I love also John Stuart saying that the gold tooth is a hate cross. Yes, and I forgot that he was a teacher because I read the, I read the,
Danielle Neil Adams first ever John Stuart issue the other day. And I was like, oh, that's right. This is fun. And he was a teacher and he seemed kind of normal. And then the reminder that he was a gym teacher. No, he was an athletic supervisor. Oh, yeah. Yeah, get it, get it right because he's going to come for it. Yeah, otherwise, but you know, I thoroughly enjoyed. He goes to pay respect to how Jordan and he's told to go and apply my rope. And that's like, yeah, never change how I need to do that. He never did. Oh my God. How funny was Hal's eulogy? It was, it was honestly, in keeping with character. But you know, what was fantastic about it was that it was extremely funny, but it was also really sad as well. Oh, yeah. Like him thanking the throngs of people and the,
the president and everything and at that moment, they pull back to just reveal it's just those three people. Yeah. And yeah, yeah, it was kind of sad. I love you to see Carol Ferris turn up, which is a deep heart A-string, but as far as the show goes, you just go, oh, yeah, she must have been an ex of some description. Yeah, yeah, if you don't know, it's an ex. And if you don't know anything about Greenland's mythology, you know that she's not only an incredibly important character, but has also taken on the powers of Star Sapphire. And yeah, so it's, it's all there if you want it. You know, this is quite clearly embedded in the DCU, the fact that they, Greenland's and has been inspired by Batman to have his own Greenland's own signal. And oh, my God, it's such a guy gardener movie, isn't it? Oh, yeah. You know, that in the comics, he's always jealous of Batman.
He's always wanting to be, or thinks he's better than Batman on some level. And on another who's like, I want to be Batman. Oh, yeah, yeah. Well, he thinks he's better than everyone, doesn't he? Yeah, yeah. But he's just not the brightest candle on the cake. No, it's interesting with this episode. It definitely feels like, how Jordan is 100% dead. And you're going to get more carol Chandler with the hologram. So we knew the hologram was coming back in some way. Yeah. But you know, it's, it's an interesting move because it's like, on the one hand, I'm kind of disappointed because, you know, how Jordan is a legacy character. But on the other hand, you know, it makes the DC universe of what James Dunn and his team are doing a little more interesting as well. Yeah, yeah. And it's, I mean, you've got three green lanterns, essentially,
and more potentially in space. So having three human green lanterns is like, well, you've got to pair it down. Otherwise, what's the point of having a green lantern? It's, it's rich tipping point in the comics. It's ridiculous. There's four at one point. Well, there's even more now because there's the, there's the Islamic yeah, green lantern and then there's the, I think they've brought in, I think there's a female one who uses the power ring from earth three. So I think that's, I think that's also one as well. Like I, you know, I haven't kept up with mainstream for a long time. But yeah, there's, there's plenty of them to say. Yeah, the only mainstream comics I've read lately have been other than the absolute series. I read the first you do patrol, which is great. And the first you lead in a superhero, which was mind blowing art, the same artist,
Hayden Sherman as, um, absolutely wonderful. But in sci-fi mode, which I was like, oh, wow, this is wild. But yeah, it's, um, yeah, no, I, I, I was sad that Hell Jordan died. Part of me is wondering, you know, that since the Nestro has escaped, are we going to, is there going to be some kind of resurrection going on? Are we going to get a, a moment where, you know, the Nestro's got some, kind of a Lazarus pitil, um, something that brings hell back to life. Using the hologram, I don't know. Well, you know, the, you know, that, that town is still in stasis. Like nothing's really changed since everything went down. So that manhunter technology is still there. Yeah. And the other thing is that, um, I think, um, one of the things that we discussed is,
you know, I think Noah is probably part manhunter. Part of their edit is to take over a place. And, you know, he really is suddenly thinking about politics and his mum is thinking, oh, he'll be great as the president. And there's, uh, maybe part of the reason, you know, how was trying to make up for, uh, you know, bad behavior in the past. But I still wonder if he suspected that Noah was, you know, part manhunter. And maybe, maybe Noah's the one that, that's shocking now. Yeah, maybe. I mean, that like when he was talking about becoming president, I was like thinking of your theory and just going, uh, chills. Um, and also how getting into a relationship with his mum feels very how to, you know, it's like, well, that's the way the manhunter would have done it. So that's why I have to do it. And it's like, oh, wow. Yeah. It feels very, very poor Kelly McDonald stuck in the middle.
Yes. Well, you know, the, uh, the important thing to remember as well is that, the last thing that House says to John is to get out of town and don't let anyone know that you've been there. Yeah. So, you know, that's, uh, that's a tell that he knows more than anyone else. And so what about this is another feeling, um, Kelly McDonald's character knows that her son is the manhunter, knows, worked out that Hal had tweaked to it. And, you know, she does say the John upfront, you know, it's perfect front. I was in a relationship with him. I could have killed him. Like, what if that's true? And also she's sad because she wasn't loved with him, but she had to choose between her new boyfriend and her son. And so those tears were real, but also everything else she said this truth. Yeah, it was funny, wasn't it? It was fun.
As soon as it kind of went down, it was, um, that would be a good way to hide and plane sight. Yeah. Yeah. Because maybe that maybe, no, what doesn't know that he's a manhunter, maybe she does. Yes. Okay. He's, he won't be activated until such a time as it's necessary. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, you know, he is, uh, he is a miracle birth, isn't he? Yeah. It's kind of what, uh, uh, why she was so, uh, you know, uh, feeling like she had to do the right thing because this opportunity had a reason. She is also from Gotham and she is also on the run. Yes, she is on the run. And how did save her at some point? And we don't know how or why. And he came back for her and we don't know how or why. Also, how being in prison for 10 years was like, oh, well, that explains a lot. But I get what it's been sort of this weird pause between the decade.
Whereas John's completely moved on and housed like, I knew people in prison didn't swear as much as you. Yeah, it's very funny. The, um, once again, there's, I feel like there has been some bold story, challenging choices with this series. And, uh, you know, uh, I completely understand where someone might be like, but I want it to be this and it's, but yeah, we all have our idealized version of what we want land and it's to be. But, um, what I like about this is that there are definite ideas and, and they've stuck to them. And they kind of exploring them in a, uh, sincerely creative way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's, it's really fun. It's, I've, like, it's kind of annoying that this episode had so much heavy listening to do in a narrative sense to catch us up on what's gone on in the last 10 years. Um, but equally, it, you know, we had a little punch on with the red necks when he was turning the light on,
uh, and the occasional moments of, um, by gun that's taking off and making all the windows, Brad, but other than that, it was kind of a sedate episode. It was a really quiet, um, you know, just, yeah, everyone in town hates you. And I've got to say, uh, nothing fires my excitement more than a medical examiner who is a total poop. Oh, yeah. Yeah. She was fantastic. But, uh, you give her a CSI DCU kind of story. Uh, I'd be totally into that. Yeah. But, you know, once, once again, this does fit into the, uh, true detective season one, uh, kind of rhythm where that, uh, this corresponding episode was the one where, uh, you know, uh, Rustin and, uh, oh, mate, finally get back together. Yeah. He catches him up on all the stuff that's been happening while he's been undercover checking this stuff out. So it was kind of expected that this episode would be what it is.
It was, um, it was interesting to see, uh, you know, that John has disconnected from his family to such an extent that he now calls his mum, Bernardette. I was like, wow, that's a power move. That's fucking as loopy as he was always. That is. Is I love that we get all that story just in phone calls. Like we don't need to see him shoot the window at the old people's home, but it's like, No. Oh, man, that's right. Yeah. Problem. Yeah. Yeah. He's a big problem. And the, um, yeah, no, I, uh, you know, it was interesting to see that he's still kind of dealing 10 years later with the idea that he was Green Lantern for a hot second. Yeah. And that's still kind of out there. Um, you know, and also, uh, yeah, what's happened with Sanestro? Yeah. I did, I did love that the end of the episode. You know, we all wanted to dig up the ring and put it on. And I thought he was going to give the whole, um, blackest night space.
And then he activates the heart, the hologram. And I'm like, oh, he just wants to open the box in the, the story. I'm like, yeah, that is amazing storytelling. Because it's like, it's what we want to happen. And then it's like, no, no, what is he wants? What is John Stuart's work? And we realized at the end of the episode, oh, he wants something completely different than what we as the audience want. Like he's not going to put that ring on until the very end. If that, yes, it's getting a bit sort of Dracula. No, it's good. Well, it's, um, well, it's, it's, uh, it's, uh, it's a little less surf Dracula and, uh, it's, it's, it's more, uh, it's more secret origin, I reckon. That's what I think, that's, that's where I think could have landed in that last step. I, I, I heard a rumor, I feel like I read something that he's in, uh, the next Superman movie as well. Oh, that's exciting. Yeah, yeah. But, uh, you know, though, nice little Batman call out fortress of storage.
That was a funny little one. It's a funny. Yeah. Like it was a pretty funny episode considering everything that was going on. I know. And yeah, and the, the funniest geology of all time. Um, and the, and the meatloaf moment, which is like, oh, you don't eat meat. You said, nah, I do now. And you're like, oh, yeah, people can change a lot in 10 years. Like, it's, uh, cause, you know, on screen, they were there just, you know, the last episode, but the bedding in that reality of 10 years is kind of a bit difficult. Um, we can see the kids growing up. We can see the town hasn't had much in the way of being repaired. Um, but also that idea of the kid being really motivated to get into politics and, hmm, and pushing for the schools to be rebuilt, which I'm sure everyone in town technically hates it. And it did have, it gave me Friday night lights vibes with everyone driving past,
asking what he was going to do. Yeah. Yeah. And I also appreciated that, um, that small town that claims that it's not racist at all, has the young girl from the last episode growing up asking a black man for reparations while I know. Essentially, uh, blackmailing him. Yeah. We're not racist. Yeah. Yeah. And then you've just thrown reparations around that. I know. Yeah. Yeah. And this episode was directed by one of the, um, directors from Watchmen, I noticed. Uh, yeah. So yeah, it's, it wasn't, it was an interesting thing this town where, you know, they're, they're not so much anti-black people, they're anti-green. Yes. Yeah, I love the cock and bulls drawn on the green lantern like. Oh my god. So funny. Yeah.
So what theories do you have about what's going to happen? What's in the box realistically? Because last time we saw a box like that, it had the lantern in it. But this is a much bigger box. Yeah. Like it's, it's pretty interesting actually. I feel like, um, uh, I feel genuinely uncertain where this is going to go. And, uh, it does, um, I think it was, uh, Alan Ceprenville, who's, uh, I think may have suggested that the, these three episodes feel like a new series, all of a sudden. And, um, so I'm guessing there's going to, you know, this go, uh, I still feel like maybe Noah is the manhunter. Yeah. And there is a possibility that, uh, I kind of like your idea that the, uh, Kerry has, is the one who did shoot it, man, maybe, maybe, how even let it, just let it happen, you know, yeah. So that's what that, that, that, that, that, even though the medical examiner said,
that that could happen, Alan's earlier. Yeah. She's like, oh, yeah, who are punched in the field and swam? Yeah. Well, maybe, maybe even how told it. Yeah. Maybe, who knows? Like, yeah, she might know. If they were in a relationship, maybe, yeah, she does know that that was what happened. Yeah. And, you know, like she is, uh, I think the, the beginning of that last episode, where we discovered that she, she was a part of something in Gotham, which we all know is a terrible town. Yeah. And, uh, you know, like she easily made him a sheriff, a deputy sheriff, the easy way that she was made a sheriff. Yeah. So, yeah, I, I, you know, maybe that's the, the revelation is that she is the one that murdered Hal and then, yeah. Then maybe we'll see, you know, some throwdown with this hybrid new version of a man hunter. Yeah. And, uh, you know, and think, you know, what? Like, like, it would be, it would be a power move to keep how off, you know, maybe,
maybe Kyle Chandler didn't want to be tied into the DCU, but, yeah. Um, you know, he's so fucking great. Fingers crossed, uh, like, moving some men, hunt some machine and bring him back from the edge. I, um, so another theory I have, which is wild and stupid, is that why bring up Sinestro getting away unless Sinestro is in the box? Oh, Sinestro is in the box. That's interesting. It's like a portal to somewhere and he's hiding out in there or whatever. But it's fine. That's, that's no one's been ever find him. We know Helen Sinestro was still kind of pally even after he killed a guardian and did whatever he did, like, there's still, you know, there's some sort of grudging respect between them. Um, but yeah. And also like, with the way John feels about the guardians, how is John going to feel about Sinestro? Like, that's a, yeah.
You, yeah, you definitely, uh, want to see the two of them together because, you know, it, it, it, John's true. I think never being more interesting now that we've got this kind of, uh, you know, man who was brought up very strictly by parents and brought up in the Marines who was also anti-authority. Yeah. And, uh, and willing to, you know, reject everything because of it. Yeah. So, you know, Sinestro, Sinestro has always been a good villain because he is, you know, like, cool good villains. There is a little bit of sense to what he's talking about. Yeah, he's anti-authoritarian. Hello. Oh, sorry. No, you're back. You're back. Um, so, um, yeah, so I'll be, uh, I like the idea of Sinestro being in the, so that's funny. I, I wondered if, um, the general that he spoke to was Sinestro for some reason.
And I'm not going to, because he kind of wanted to pinpoint him. But I like, I prefer your idea that for some reason Sinestro is in that box or, or at least there's a portal to get to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, yeah, I feel like there's, you know, that box is big for a reason. Um, and I don't know what that reason is. Uh, that was my only thought. Oh, you know, the person in front. Yeah, but you know, you know what it's, um, uh, I think would have, uh, the reason you would have come up with that idea is because it, uh, looks a lot, not, not, just similar to that perfect, uh, box that they in the Matt Smith doctor. Oh, yeah. Yeah, the, um, the Pandora car. And also the, the vault that Missy was in. Is that the family here? Yeah. So it's kind of got all, kind of got all of that stuff going on. Uh, I do like that idea. And I also, um, I also wonder if, um, you know,
maybe when, uh, you know, maybe when Noah gets taken out, which I'm guessing is what would happen. It'd be great if Noah comes around and became this, uh, weird character in the background who's growing in prominence. Yeah. As, you know, knowing, knowing that the, the Damon Lindelof politics, um, and, you know, sure he wouldn't be adverse to writing about a terrible president. But the, um, I wonder if he, if he does take out, uh, Noah, maybe Earl finally gets a really good meal. Yeah. Check-offs, plan. Check-offs, check-offs, do you know? I love seeing Earl again. Earl was great. Yeah. Earl, I know, I had like Earl being upset about how being dead. He's like, oh, sorry. All right. Yeah. The Elshund have been at the funeral. He was obviously the one most upset. I know. Well, we'll find out what happens, I guess, next week. Uh, there's only two episodes left. Which is, I know, I know, I know, I know, like I'm really, I'm really loving it.
And yeah, it's just, uh, it's such a good momentum and it has a real confidence about it as well. Yeah. That's the other thing I was thinking. It's like, I'm like, why aren't other kind of superhero properties like this? Like there's, like even pacemaker, which feels like a confident show, it still feels like it's constantly trying to prove itself. Whereas this show is just like, nah, nah, I'm good. You know, I'm good. Good show. Just go with it. Yeah. And yeah, yeah, it can tell a very kind of grounded character study while also referencing starro Batman and the giant panic room arch. Yeah. That's great. I can, like it's crossing over with silo all of a sudden. Yeah. It all makes sense. Oh, dear. Awesome, Justin. Well, I'll talk to you next Monday. Will you still be in Adelaide? No, no, no, I'll be back in Sydney in my own fortress or solitude, which I call my expensive apartment.
And you've got gigs this week in Adelaide. People can go and check you out. Yeah, so I'm at the Rhino room on Friday hosting the night to establish comedians, trying new material, new comedians establishing themselves. It's a pretty good liner. Yeah. So I'm looking forward to that last gig in Adelaide for a few months. So seven o'clock this Friday. Excellent. Actually, for, 25 years. 25 years. Yeah. Yes. There you go, two for one tickets to see hammer with some newbies on Friday. Yeah. Good, good newbies. Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah. I'll throw it once it come up and talk to me about lanterns. I'm being the chair. I'll be at Universal with Andrew Barnett on Wednesday the 30th. If anyone wants to come and see, I think it's called Fruit Fight. I don't remember.
It's like a battle between who's better, straight or gay comedians, but at a gay club. So I feel like they're biased. The dumbest idea is the straights win. Oh, they'll only win on the side. There'll be something else going on after the gig. I may think. We'll see you next Monday and yeah, go and go and grab tickets at Adelaidecomedy. It's Adelaidecomedy.com that I use. Adelaidecomedy.com. Oh, dot com, there you go. Easy. Excellent. We'll see you on Monday to find out what happens after they opened and box. It's a pin-up. It's the end of the episode of it. Yeah, it's a pin-up. They're going to pouch right ahead as well. It is about that pig. I like that. But it's just not. Someone in consistency in seven.
