Across levels in the tennis world, of course, I say across levels because this week it's the ceremonial start to a new college tennis season, the ITA, all-American championships, underway we broke down that event and the biggest storylines. We of course have a labor cup. Kick it off this weekend. We've got the four tour level events, the 500 for the women in Singapore, 250 for the women in solo couple of 250s for the men in Hangzhou. Chengdu respectively three WTA 125K events, five ATP challenger events, and yet where I want to start today's podcast, with an event I excluded in previewing the week's action on yesterday's show,

Well, not only do we have labor cup for that sort of action this weekend for the men, we've got the final week of Billie Jean King Cup action already unfolding for the women are semi-finals now set. Let's break down our quarterfinal battles. Let's cap the field for all of you tennis fans who are just checking into that event moving forward and again, hand up. Horrible oversight by me. I'm going to blame the flu I was overcoming. I guess now that I'm back in control of all of my faculties I feel that much more ashamed. But nevertheless, I think there's a pretty clear cut favorite to bring home the title. I think it's got to be Chekia. You look at the Chekia side who are in a two-love victory to advance over Great Britain in the quarter finals. And by the way, just a reminder, obviously Davis Cup best of five, right? You have

6:21the singles matchups then the reverse singles matchups plus a doubles rubber only three best of three format total team points on the Billie Jean King Cup side. You have the ones play the ones in singles, the twos play the twos and of course the doubles matchup as you are best of three tie break rubber. It's going to be really hard to even find a singles victory against this Chekia side. Obviously in the number one spot, Wimbledon champion, U.S. Open Quarterfinals. She's getting to the two were finals, Lyndon Asukava, who today 6276 or yesterday I suppose knocked out Katie Bolter. They have options at that number two singles spot. Obviously they were able to utilize Marie Bogecova, Bogecova who's 27 in the world. By the way, three set win over Sonny Cartel to again help the sweep. But keep in mind in their back pocket for this Chekia side, the doubles pairing. And lined up allegedly would have played doubles today if needed. Catarina Sinyakava.

7:22Number one women's doubles players in the world. There's no one else you would want anchoring your doubles team. And honestly, put Sinyakava with any of them. Noscava, Bogecova or who she was slated to play with today. Carolina Mouha, who is another option in the back pocket of this Chekia side. Again, it's going to be really difficult given the depth of this Chekia side to knock them off. And by the way, for those of you curious, when is the last time the Chex took home the Billie Jean King Cup title? I'm glad you asked Chekia's last title at this event all the way back in 2018. By the way, it's the last time they made the final, I believe in this event as well. I don't think they made the final last year. I don't see the 2025 results. I apologize. I'm going to bring those up now as I do. But again, that's too long for a group. Chekia last season didn't even reach the final site. That's way too long for a group that obviously since 2018 has had Mouha, Kretchikova. Mouha, Kretchikova, Vantrosava, of course, who's not available to them

But to have those three options, who have all dealt with various injuries, of course, but also with Sinyakava, also with Bogecova, who have certainly been around in Sinyakava has been a top doubles player in the world for almost a decade consecutively. No finals, let alone no titles in almost a 10 year stretch. Chekia is too good for that. By the way, since I know many of you are thinking it, Team USA's last title 2017. Obviously, they made the final last season, but we talked about that with Ben. That's an unacceptable mark for a group that has Goth and Pagula and Anisimova and Kees and all the different options available to them as well. I think Chekia is the prohibitive favorite, particularly as you look at the rest of the field. And again, they knock out the Brits. Good, good showing for the Brits, particularly given, you know, we don't talk about it that frequently here, but like, who's the number one for the Brits right now? It's Katie Bolter, who's 55 in the live rankings. They haven't had a top 25 threat all season long. They find themselves in the quarter finals. The Americans do not. Now, obviously, part of that is the draw,

9:31it broke out around before, but never the last like feels relevant, feels relevant. As again, you look for the Billie Jean King Cup. I do think this is a massive opportunity for Chekia to bring on that first title in nearly a decade. I don't know how you're beating them in singles in doubles. And I think at worst they go one in one in every singles match. So they're the prohibitive favorite, of course, in the quarter finals. Excuse me, the semi finals, they'll take on a Spanish side that I think they will be significantly favored against. You look for this Spanish lineup and what they were able to rock. And by the way, Spain knocking off Kazakhstan 21 to ultimately advance to the semi finals. Now no rebukina for Kazakhstan. You look for Spain. Christina Bukshez, 35 in the world, good week last week in Guadalajara. She's 16 in the world in doubles as well. Obviously, Caitlin Quiveto is on this roster. She too won her first tour level title last week. Bosis Maniero, 93 in the world. Like they have three top 100 players. They've got a Sri Bess Toro on the

10:32bench. You can always just be crafty at that number two spot, certainly an option to deploy in doubles as they did with Bukshe to a two and five win to clinch this match over Kazakhstan. But Noscuba is going to be favored over Bukshe. Whomever they play at the two spot, whether it's Mughva, whether it's Voshkova, Hell, whether it's Sinyakva, I'd probably favor them over whomever plays at the two spot, Bosis Maniero, Quiveto or Sri Bess Toro. Toro for Spain and then again, like Bukshe and Sri Bess Toro, that's a good doubles team. I think Chekia's got an even better option available to them. So great result for the Spaniards, continuing again, another team without a top 25 player to anchor their roster. I think it'll be all Chekia as they work their way to the finals. And the big question becomes after that again, who will they face? Will they face Ukraine? Ukraine who has the lineup able to deploy of Svitalina, Kalinina, Zavatska and Kichinak now obviously absent from that lineup, notably Martha Kostya. And if you have Martha Kostya in this lineup, now we're talking. How sizzly would a Mughva Kostya

11:38as the twos and Svitalina Noscuba as the ones? Like that has potential singles, battles in a final. Ah, if only. Of course, they took on a Belgium side, no at least a Mertens, Mertens competing on the WTA tour this week. You look, Kalinina 3 set win from a set down over Otsipka, Otsipka, excuse me. How about a free minute though? 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, Nox out Svitalina. This one was sent to doubles. I will say, Kalinina, Kichinak and O Kalinina's rankings a little behind right now, but that's a formidable doubles pairing. They get the 3-3 win to clinch. I mean, look, Belgium beats Svitalina. Like, they put themselves in a position to win this match. The Kalinina was always going to be the favorite. Otsipka, 474 in the world. I just don't, you know, again, is Kalinina beating Bojkova Mughva?

12:38An indoor hardcore, herbors Bojkova is interesting, but Mughva, no. Svitalina not in the best of form. I would say Noscuba certainly in better form, coming off of Wimbledon onwards, start a grass season onwards, and like legitimately so. And I'd still favor the checks in Dubs. So again, this is where you're capping the field. Now, is Ukraine the favorite in their semi-final battle versus Italy? Tough to say. Now, on paper, you'd feel like Svitalina heavy favorite over the Italy number one, Jasmine, Palinina, Jasmine, Palinina, who by the way, 3 and 6 over US Open Quarterfinals, Junction when to send their 2-1 victory over China to a deciding doubles rubber. Kochi Aretha in the number two spot for Italy. She got knocked out, oh, we two by Junction. They've got Bronzetti, they've got Young Tyra Grant. Obviously, you look for the Italians. They're the only team, even if the rankings are a little down this year. Iranian Palinina can beat anyone on the right day. And again, this Italy team has been so good in Billie Jean King Cup over the past couple of seasons. Obviously, they've won the last two

13:41years. They've made the finals the last three. And they've done it because Jasmine, Palinina's won her singles match and her and Arani have won doubles. It hasn't mattered who's in the number two spot. Again, 3 and 6 over Chinwen is maybe given the recent form of Chinwen. Maybe Jasmine, Palinina's most notable win of the year. They have the continuity. Kalinina should beat Kochi Arethaos. Svitalina as a battle like it's Svitalina really going to lose two matches in a row. Unlikely and accordingly, you feel like again, Ukraine should shut Italy out before it gets to doubles. If it gets to doubles, you're just not picking against Palinina and Arani given they have just been in this scenario more frequently than any other doubles duo in the world. These last three seasons of Billie Jean King Cup. So I think just by virtue of that, the Italians, well, Ukrainians are better on paper because Indoor Hardwood, Kalinina, Githott, maybe. No, the Italians just because they have the recipe. I think the Italians are the bigger threat

14:43to Chekia. I still think Ukraine is favored to beat Italy and close them out in two singles matches. And I think that makes sense. I'm taking Chekia to end the streak. Too much talent coming out of that nation over the last decade for them to have not won a title since 2018, nor made a final in that stretch either. So we got team tennis. And again, you got Sfidilina, you had Chinwen, you've got Palini looking to bounce back here to enter your, you've got some serious faces. Everyone on Chekia available to you. It's not quite the all-star game that is Laver Cup this weekend, but a lot of good players in action. And when you're representing your country, it matters that much more. So we got some really good tennis. Billie Jean King Cup two-monitor this week. And apologies for the oversight in not including that on yesterday's show. Semifinals now set. Again, it will be Chekia taking on Spain, Italy taking on Ukraine. That's the action in Billie Jean King Cup world. Laver Cup world, again, it kicks off tomorrow. We got our singles matchups for day number one. And your reminder, everyone has to

That's an either or. Menshik's had the better season more broadly. Nakashima has been better related and Dore Hardcourt's his weaponry again. He is ahead of Jakub Menshik by hold percentage of this season. Yes, he slipped up at the US open. That was his only slip up of the summer. Nakashima can go and win that one. If Menshik takes it, I'm not going to say it's a steal. But it sets a tone for team Europe. Like, no, no, we're here to win this year. Night session, Hodor vs. Bublik. Opportunity for a steal. You'd say advantage Hodor. Hodor is not going to get a lot of rhythm. Hodor is one of the top five

Maybe they're safe and learner. We might get learner Alcras, folks. It's a possibility. As by the way, those are your three singles matches. Alcrasen, Menshik, taking on Bublik Fritz and Doubles. Who knows? Doubles is the biggest wild card because we don't have established double stars on any of these rosters anywhere. By the way, it means Fritz, Demon, TN, and for team Europe, Alcras, Zvara, Kuboli. They're all playing tomorrow. I would do, if I'm team world, I'd want Demon vs. Kuboli. Again, I'm taking TN vs. Alcrasen this time so I can save Fritz for the next day and then you go Zvara Fritz. Yeah, you absolutely do that. No, yeah, you absolutely do that. Day one, I think if you're team world, first of all, there's a real pathway to team world sweeping day one, like legitimate because of the indoor hardcore nature of the Haudar Bubliq match. Real world where that happens and doubles. Look, you have the Bubliq and Fritz serves weapons. I'm going to be bold because two L's boring. I say 3-1 team world coming out of day

I mean, again, some fascinating opportunities across the board now on the top of the draw. Seeds help the firm, right? It'll be Antreeva, Versaela Fernandez. It'll be Merton's taking on Maya Hualinska. Hualinska, Owen Won, over Allian Kovah. Neither player had a big weapon and if you don't have a weapon to hit through Hualinska, it just speaks to how high her floor is. Like the physicality that she brings. The spots that she can hit move the ball well doesn't have the spring, the springiness, the pop, which I think limits her ceiling on this surface, but Owen Won, man, like if you don't have a weapon to hurt her with, she's not losing to you in a war of attrition. Great win for Wang Shin-yu just to get to this quarter final to back up the Vecchich win with a straight set win over Qualifier-Jewanna Garland again with her pace is right. I'm a Wang Shin-yu believer. She'll take on Tatiana Porosova who of course pulls off the upset she's one big and knocks out Alexiale 4675, 6'3". Again, massive win by the way. I cannot emphasize that enough for

21:10Proserova. You look for Proserova by the way with the victory up to New Career High 140, believe it's the first quarter final at the tour. Level for the 22-year-old. Hit herself out of that one, Alexiale and it was in the face of Proserova amplifying her own pressure and amplifying her own risk and doing some very impressive things with her backhand cross. In the face of just the top spiniale was providing her and that's sometimes the issues. If the ball is not landing with the requisite depth it needs. It sits up in strike zones for players to flatten out against. Again, it speaks to the 22-year-old found some rhythm. Weapons weren't as crisp and that's the thing for Yala. She is athletic enough, but it's not inherent to swing as big as some of the obvious play. I mean again, you feel like a pathway to Yala. It doesn't look the same as Kostya. But it's kind of that sort of athlete and she can kind of do everything. I think Kostya is a little bit spring-year. I think there's more action on the Yala ball. Tough showing for Alexiale. Good showing for Maria Sokri,

Gibson, Gibson, knocking out Lucky loser Victoria, more of a Yova, six and six on her way to the quarter-final. Whereas Gibson, by the way, who's higher in the... Talia Gibson, 52 in the world. Yeah, 22-year-old's not... Yala, Noscova are probably your top two contenders for breakout star of the year. And honestly, it's just Linda Noscova because she want to slam. Gibson will be on my list of received consideration given what she's accomplished throughout the course of this season. Again, two or level quarter-final has her up to 52. 52, not too shabby for the 22-year-old. Again, seeds entirely in the top half of the draw only Maria Sokri left in the bottom half of the draw massive opportunity for Sokri. Can she find herself to a final? And Maria Sokri right now currently sitting at 33 in the world. Might she be seeded at the 2026 Australian Open? Certainly an opportunity

But you look for her by the way now in her career by reaching the quarter-finals here in Seoul. Just her third career two-level quarter final again. Cornieva up to a new career high no shock. No she's not up to new career high the 19 year olds at 72 right now in the live rankings but talk about a massive opportunity in the lesser ranked Taylor Preston. I would consider her the favorite against the Tara Rudy or my joint in the semi-final as well and in fact by the way this is probably the first time won't be the last time it happens 19 year old Alina Cornieva for the first time favored to win a two-level title according to the tennis abstract singles forecast now
