Lavender Heights Takes Back Safety | Sacramento News

0:00So, over in Sacramento, specifically the Lavender Heights area, folks are stepping up after some recent incidents. They held a neighborhood watch training session this past Wednesday, bringing together community members and the Sacramento Police Department to talk, about safety. It was all about addressing concerns and figuring out how to make the neighborhood feel more secure. From that meeting, a new initiative called the Lavender Heights Community Patrol was born. This is a group of volunteers who are going to be out walking the neighborhood, especially on weekend nights. They'll be wearing distinctive purple vests, acting as a visible presence to let everyone know that people are looking out for what's happening. The idea behind this patrol is to create a sense of security and deter any negative activity. It's about making sure residents and visitors feel safe and know that the community is watching out for each other. One resident who was recently attacked shared how empowering it felt to be part of this effort, making it clear they aren't backing down. The patrol is still growing and figuring things out, with organizers actively looking for more volunteers to join the effort.
