Oh, but you were out in extra week because I had my dental surgery. Yes. Yes. Right. Which was fine. Although Jan has seen pictures of how crazy my gums looked after. Right. I mean, Jan goes, that doesn't even look like you. Which I knew was code for you look hiatus.

3:03It was wild. It was wild. You were swollen. But being swollen is weird. Yes. Yes. Was it painful? What was it like? Yeah, it wasn't it wasn't like it wasn't horrible. It wasn't if I could go back, I would have listened to the oral surgeon who I like I did a local instead of a general anesthesia. And I was far too aware of what was happening. So it was like mentally taxing. It wasn't that painful. I was fine. I was fine. I was able to grin and bear it. It's the not talking that killed me. And so what did I do? I talked a lot. 4:03Let's do it. Check in with Albert Janseth and Ashley. How was everybody's break? It was great. It was great. We dropped off Kaden to college. His freshman year. He's gained one and you lost one. I gained one. One came home and one left. He's at Tulane. We've already had trips to Urgent Care. And then to the E.R. We've heard it. Why, why, I don't care? Because they're all sick. They've all been like partying and exhausted, right? And then we had a trip to the E.R. Because he thought maybe he was having an appendicitis and the Tulane Health Center sent him there. Because they said, let's not mess around. Turns out it wasn't. I don't know. They don't know. Maybe he's just dehydrated. I don't know what's going on. But he hydrated from alcohol. Probably. By the way, probably. That's a very big party school. You know this, Jan. We dropped him off. And then a day later, USA Today came out with it's the number one party school. I'm like, OK. I mean, I could have told you that. Yeah. Right. He's having a good time. And he's also studying and doing his work. OK, good.

5:04Yeah. Because they went back early. I feel like they went back super early. Yeah, they were like one of the first schools to go back. And the roommate's great. He's got a lot of friends there. He's got a lot of friends. He knows people from different walks of life, from growing up. But then he's met like a great bunch of kids. So I love that he's not completely relying on the people he knew. And he's like really, he really was impressed. He went out. I watched him the first two days going up to every single person being like, hi, I'm Kate. And nice to meet you. What dorm are you in? Like I was so impressed. And it really paid off. Yeah. He likes his roommate. Likes the roommate a lot. Initially picked him because he's got next season tickets. Right. Really? He's another New York kid. Another New York kid. He's from NIAC. Although he told us rubber, he was from Connecticut, but he's not. He's from NIAC. NIAC. So anyway, great kid. And they're doing great. Why are people lying? I've noticed this about a, many people lately that they lie and say they're from Connecticut. Or from New York when they're not from New York. Or from New York when they're not from New York. Like they get in the area, the vicinity, and then,

6:06and then they just overshoot it. I don't think he lied. I think Kate and didn't listen. Yeah. I think Kate and just put that in his head, in his own head. And that's what he said. He heard Nick's season tickets. And he said he's got to be from Connecticut. That's funny. It's got to be from Connecticut, right? However, what was your break like? It was good. We were out east. We had a lot of visitors coming to visit us. You were very kind to. Oh my god, we had the best time. You were very, very kind to. I can tell you that the high point of, you know, because Joaquin are youngest, our newborn baby, wrapped his production, his production. Do you love that it now? Yes, yes. You produced it. Death of a salesman. Yes. And he and his two castmates, the two, like the three young characters that play the younger versions of the three, you know, the guys. Anyway, they all went out too long. Island, Albert entertained them. We had plans. And he texted me, of course, the night before. Of course. And I say, well, how long are you here? Are you free?

7:07This is on a Thursday. I'm like, are you free on Sunday? We have people and he's like, we leave tomorrow. We leave the next day. They have to do it. I'm like, OK, well tomorrow. What are you doing tomorrow? And we went and hung out with them. And it was very exciting to see the three of them post Broadway show. This is now two days or three days after they left the show. I'm like, where would you be right now? When they were all thrown off, like, days are screwed up, they're like, we would be leaving right now. I'd be having a bite here. I'd be doing this. And it's all upside down for them. They have so much time. So much time. But like, I'm like, you guys, this is major. And I guess all three of them, it was their Broadway debut. Yeah. Yeah. Which is wild. Yeah. And then Kyle was there. And of course, he's not saying anything. And then Joaquin brings up Kyle having been on Broadway. And then of course, I was, of course, the only person who had never been on Broadway. Well, there's still time now. But there was just, I don't know. And you know how my feelings for Joaquin, but to see that and to see him on the tail end. And I texted Mark and Joaquin over the break. Like, guys, just hope you're celebrating the fact

8:08that the both of you were on Broadway this year. Like it's kind of major. And like take minutes and moments to savor it because that's a big deal. And then I looked it up. I didn't even tell you this. That like 0.8% of the actors ever in the world make it on to Broadway. Really? Like this smallest percentage because there's only a small percentage. There's only a small amount of roles. And it's like the lowest, it's the hardest job, I think, to get. And it's kind of amazing. I told them both, I have always considered Broadway to be where their real talent is. Yes. I mean, I love television. Joaquin, give me wrong. I love going to the, I don't love going to the movies. But I love when movies come out on streaming services that I can view at home. I love all of that. Like I love this, I love movie stars. I love entertainment. However, to me, when I really want to invest in a night out, I go to a Broadway show because to me that is real. That's the real deal. That's the real talent. Yeah, Joaquin said that his buddies were going to meet like a family friend.

9:09And he stopped. Like he set you up pretty like top to be the sky. Oh my god. You love the sky. And after they met with you, you guys hung out. They said, you're right. I love them. I didn't want them to leave. I was sad they were leaving. Yeah, they were great. But it's just, I don't know. I was very proud of him. And I still am extremely proud of him and of Mark for like pulling, doing what you do. I think no one really understands. And I only know it from watching Kyle. I'm going through it. H shows a week. And what that does to your body and how discipline you have to be and how successful the both of you are. It's a grind. But anyway, it was fun to see him outside of it at the end of it and him being to like relax a little bit and being able to eat something for the first time. Oh, yeah, being able to eat and like not have to have a bite. He had a Rubin, which he would never say he would never would have eaten. Yeah. And we have the time. He had a Rubin with the atmino at the end. And Mino, oh my gosh. Yeah. Yes. A rise too. Like the voice. Wow. How was your break? Did you finally got to relax? I did. No, it was great. I lost track of days. I didn't know what date was. I started walking slower. We didn't put shoes on for a month.

10:12For month, the best. Swam, we watched the sun come up. Did you play golf? No, no golf. No golf. No golf. Just tennis. Badly. We played tennis badly. Cycling and swimming and hit the gym. It was great. How's your elbow, Mark? It hurts. I've got tennis elbow. I can't believe it. It's so annoying. I don't even, I like tennis. I don't love tennis. And I think we played that game with a called paddle, Padel. Padel. Padel. I think that's what did it. That's hard. Did you think it was hard at the game? It's like, it looks ridiculous. It's like a really fast ping pong. It's a ping pong. No, but it bounces off the back wall. Then you have to hit the back wall. It's a good forward. I didn't get it. I didn't get it. I didn't get it at all. But the thing about Mark is, and I'm just going to say it, he looks like he's a professional at every sport he does. So when he stands on the court, you can see the other people get nervous like, oh no, we're going to have our hands full. And I'm like, no, no, don't worry.

11:12He's never done this. He's never done this before. He doesn't know what he's doing. It's going to be fine. You're going to be fine. Yeah, but it's funny the more time off you have, the more time off you want. When I had to come back, I felt pretty sad about it. I feel like I'm a good one day a month. Stop. One day a month. Stop. All right. Can we talk about you text me during the trip? Yes. Yes. You were hanging out with some people. So let me just say this. If you recall last year when we came home from break, you said to me, I can't believe you buried the lead at work and didn't tell us you were hanging out with Richard Geer. Yes. Or Sir Richard Geer. You don't like to call him, even though he hasn't been knighted. But in my mind, he has. Well, guess who was back at the same vacation spot? Richard Geer. Wow.

12:12Yes. And we had meals. Did we not have meals? Yeah, with his wife and family, it wasn't just with Richard Geer. And if you know, I know, but you know, it's not it's not as big as I'm weird. You know how my brain works when it comes to Richard Geer, right? Richard Geer and I had lunch and dinner. Where are you guys where I don't know? He's great. They are really great. We really, really enjoy them. He was so cool when he was on our show. He says that he told us, I mean, maybe he says this to everyone. He said, our show is his favorite show to do. He said, it's a really fun. He's like, it's what it's supposed to be. And what's really funny is, I was like, he's, you know, his whole family's there and like family friends. Like they travel with like a large group. And I was quizzing them on Richard Geer movies. Oh my god. And the amount of Richard Geer movies they haven't seen is shameful.

13:16And I was like, wait, what do you mean? You've never seen an officer and a gentleman. And I was going, I was going on to the point where he was like, my agent ladies and gentlemen. I could be his publicist. If anyone hasn't read it, you have to read the chapter in Kelly's book about Richard Geer. It is one of the best things I've ever read. It's so funny. We should do an interpretive read at some point of that chapter. With Richard. No, on this podcast, on this podcast, we should like do an interpretive read. We also watched, we had choices of who's died. It was to watch movies and some people staying with us had never seen show girls. Oh. I mean, we have to see this, we have to see this movie. It's Kyle's favorite movie ever. You shocked. You hadn't seen it. I had seen it a couple times. But I really watched it this time. You really watched it this time you watched it for the storm. It was for me. It's an I-Ly-C movie.

14:16It is iconic. And I realized he made fatal attraction a couple of years before that. And so I'm assuming they had carte blanche, right? You made fatal attractions. You did whatever you wanted. You would everyone. You guys are geniuses. Guess what? They did. They really did. Yes. Oh my God. Oh my God. It was unbelievable. It's so good. It's so bad. It's good. Well, when you were on Riverdale and you started working with Gina Gershaw. I was like, I said, I was like, so did you ask Gina Gershaw? I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. And I was like, what do you mean no? I was like, you're going to ask her tomorrow, right? And he's like, no. And I was like, what do you mean no? It's before you were a talk show host. That's true. But I wish I had been there. Totally. You know, had I been visiting Mark during that time, I would have gotten right in there, would have shown up at lunch break. It's amazing. It's such a good watch.

15:16What are the movies that you watch? You have what are movies that you're watching? We watched the opposite of gentlemen. The kids could be at the speed. I wanted to get a show. I wanted to get a show. I thought I'd just, I realized I had been an unfit mother. They had never seen an opposite of gentlemen. We also watched taps. Oh, great. What's going on? Great movie. Yeah, we watched Tom Cruise. Yes. We made my husband, Sean Penn. Wow. Sean Penn is this, the elder member of the cast, he was 21. 21? Wow. God, tap me. That came out really good. It's really good. It's really good. Wow. And then I watched, and then I forced, because we all got to pay. You know, a different night. I, I think I did the best job. Because I had all of the murder documentaries, cornered. So every night, it was a different murder documentary. Can you choose wife? Oh, yeah. I watched that. I watched that. I watched that. That was crazy. Yeah. Do him. Do him. Oh, when he cries. When he cries,

16:17when he said, when he cries, when he said, I don't know what happened there, but I know something happened. And then we watched what's the other one we watched? Oh, welcome to the family on Hulu. The Marquelles. Oh, the murder of Dan Marquelles. I've been following this story since 2012. Okay. I mean, they covered it on date line. They covered it on 48 hours. I'm sure they covered it on 2020. And then Hulu has made it a three-parter, a docu-series called Welcome to the Family. And it is bonkers. Bonkers. Yeah. So that was my contribution. And I think my nights were the most popular nights. Okay. For real. Yeah. You think showgirls was more popular than Welcome to the Family? I mean, I would say they were equal, for sure.

17:20What time of day are these movies? After dinner. After dinner. After dinner. After dinner. After dinner. Which means, you know, I have to rewatch almost every night. Yeah. Marqu has to watch everything twice because he loves it most immediately. Yeah. Well, I think there's the, because Kyle and I, one of the big fights we had is there's always, he always wants to watch the darkest, like most terrifying thing right before bed. Yeah. And to me, I'm done. There's no way that that is happening and then I'm going to be able to sleep. Killies like that. She doesn't want to watch those either. She hates when we watch this dark stuff. Yeah. No. I can watch murder documentaries, but I can't watch murder on cinema. Yeah. No. Violence on cinema. There was an episode he had Euphoria on and they were, I don't want to say him. Same. She would, she would, I like you. I can't, but I can't watch it. It's like killbill. It's a man, it gives me an example. It gives me an example. Yeah, I can't watch anything with like murder before bed. Yeah. But I can watch a documentary about actual people being a doctor different. That makes sense. Yeah. A documentary is different. Really? No, absolutely not.

18:20No, absolutely not. I have to like watch dumb TV falling asleep. Please watch. Welcome to the family. I will. Please. It is just dumb. Yes, it's murder, but it's also just dumb enough that you'll be like riveted. So okay. So wait, I want to understand. So am I to understand this correctly that Doug, as in Doug's dong, again to our listeners with small children in the car, he would change the channel. He heard the podcast. So what happened? Mark, we had done a podcast with Dr. Dubrow. We were talking about a guy who was going to get a penis enlargement because he had the size of a pencil, not penis, pencil eraser. Yes, pencil eraser. And then we were talking about the flip side of that is when someone has a penis that's too big. And that could be scary sometimes. And so I was saying there was this guy Doug who had a penis that was like the size of a cocaine. You couldn't get your hand around it.

19:20And somebody I know heard it, sent it to Doug. And I swear to God if he could put a link of it on his LinkedIn, he would. He was literally playing it for anyone who was like, that's me. He's so excited by it, but it was a little jam. You know, we call you, you know, we call you Twitter. I love it. It definitely freaks me out when I got a call from him. And he was playing it for another. No, he called you. He called me. Wait, wait, wait, wait, you know this person. This is somebody she dated. Who did, how many guys did you date? A few. I got around. She was really cute. No, no, no, no. This was in high high school. Oh, she was Foxy. And she still is Foxy. But like this was post high school, go at college time. Yeah. I feel like when the rest of us went through our awkward cases, by the way, tried to maybe give a hand up, couldn't do it because it was like so scary that I never touched him again. Wow. But by the way, he's playing this now for everybody who listen.

20:23Maybe Mary Jam. Maybe, maybe had a good way. My friends found Jason, that guy, but we didn't track him down, but they found him and sent me a photo of him. And I'm not showing them. The big bottom. Yeah. Guys, what do we, what do you guys do? This is what we do during the live shows. We tend to only do this during live shows. I don't know why. I don't know why our live shows go so far off the rest. They should all be live from now on. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah, so that I wanted to understand because I just saw like you're like talking points that I was like, yes, Doug is very proud of it. So what is, is that my music fake names? He has his back is doing really well. He's getting stronger every day. Right. And when he knock wood, it's been a good break, a good hiatus for us.

I didn't want it to be over She She rescued that one I put it down for four years But you guys that's how I was with Ted last so too The final season because I didn't want it to be over So anything that I love that much is like I don't I know that doesn't make sense No, that's very sweet. Yeah, about So bad so about two hours away, but I mean I gotta literally be like an empty empty nester I mean at least you two have each other when all your kids left for college, but I'm like, oh, what am I gonna do? Now, but we really started ignoring each other No, I'm telling you this is where you're going to you're gonna get out there You're gonna meet other people you're not gonna be afraid to enter into a relationship because your kids are gonna be off on their own And this is where you get to know other people you're gonna get to find out who you are what you what your likes are Do you have any hobbies? Um Well reading Okay, I mean you know, I really have lost hobbies I've lost you know, it's just been about work and my kids and you know, my son's gonna be driving in a couple weeks if he passes

38:13I don't know why I didn't want my I was gonna say the Detroit Lions and here's why you dad from my dad. Yeah, they owe my dad one. He's been a lifelong Yes, I finally asked him why he likes the Lions because it's so weird from a guy from South Jersey who's so right across the street from a right across the river from from the Eagles to Roof for the Lions such a weird team to root for and he said well in Little League. Yeah, call it Little League not Blue League that was his team. He played he played football and they were the Candidate and something Lions South Candidate and South Candidate and the way he told that story Made me smile and you know since I've been a Lions fans, Lions fan ever since and so that made me smile because I thought it was very odd That's very sweet. Yeah, yeah, once in a while my dad like my dad doesn't mean to and he would like he to thank God He doesn't know how to access this podcast But once in a while who doers say something that is so like get gets to my heart. That's his guy If my dad doesn't see him like if my dad doesn't see him at least once a week my dad assumes that something terrible Is that oh my god, you know like maybe his maybe his parachute, you know his big bladder didn't whatever and And so when he sees him he gets so excited and I started like Photographing my dad's reactions when I'm face timing him and he sees him. He's like oh here he is And my dad doesn't know how to flip his phone. Oh, please. Yeah, so he's trying to flip the phone around and he can And it's very funny just watching him and I was like dad. I don't need the phone flip around because watching you watch the guy is the best part

40:18We got to find this guy. Oh my god. I'm really doing it. It's a pie I like that's a scary rise over the casinos. It's really wild. All right Can we talk about this thing we weren't invited to I know it's I got jealous It's like a retreat. I'm like oh, they're invited to this millegro And I'm only partially millegro so I don't get invited and I was like maybe I'm jealous Maybe I'm not then they sent me that video and I'm like You guys are having a boring time there like this is a real party that they're they're excited about a toothpaste

I would have been picked up thrown in the car brought home and been locked in a room had I ever A have I ever stood up to my parents at a restaurant and be what do you mean stood up to Was he complaining complaining complaining how old was the kid probably like four or five years old? Oh, yeah Yeah, what did he want lobster? We wanted to order um the skirt steak off of the main menu a four-year-old? Well, why are they bringing the four-year-old to dinner to be good with I don't know Right, but it was one of these things where I'm like this can't be and they weren't backing down

46:36And they weren't fighting with him and there was no raising of the voice And I thought I would have killed this child and then it's just we so Kyle brought up a story Which made me killed me when he went years ago. He was a kid and he His mother took him to a lunch with her friends and Kyle did not want to order off of the kids menu and Kyle wanted the soft shell crab He had a full on meltdown at the table and his mother got up picked him up brought him outside put him in the car Locked the car door and went back inside and had lunch and left him in the car You can't do that anymore. No, no, you know, you know, you'll have your kids anymore. You can't do these things. You will have your kids taken away from you And I know that you guys didn't negotiate with your kids, but I'm gonna tell you that I believe me I didn't let my kids have everything they wanted No, there were times that it's like the path of least resistance is sometimes like you're at dinner You just want the dinner to be like a good experience, right? So sometimes you just yeah do it no Kid get the skirt steak. He didn't get the skirts thing. What do you get he ended up getting chicken and rice?

47:40Which hits many off the kids menu were you giving him? Dirty looks to I was pissed and I wanted to like say something Of course you can't say anything, but I'm pissed I'm I don't these people these kids brain is not fully formed. You can't make a cognitive like his brain By the way, it's not gonna be fully formed for another 20 years So there's but so you're allowing this child to like make decisions. No, and I just I don't know I've in it's just one example of the amount of times you see it you can't negotiate This is not and I was saying to Janet's like the negotiation generation. You see it now everywhere Yeah, people want to have a relationship. They want to have a we've got you cannot be friends with your kids You can be friends with them when they grow up and become normal people, but you know I age Your friend your friend your children need to have parents. Yes, they don't need another set of friends And so we were very I think strict we weren't I wouldn't say we were especially if they told us like I don't like you I'm like I don't care. Yeah, yeah, it doesn't I'm not that's not my job I'm not feeling right. I'm not interested in you liking me

48:40Mm-hmm, but we were sitting keeping you out of jail right and rehab right and the emergency room Yeah, right that's my interest you said your dad would have hit you back in the day, but that's like There's no reason my dad had a wooden paddle You know, I do that. I know he can't do it and I only it only He drove holes in it. I only met the battle once But he had a paddle and all he had to do was talk about the paddle or get up and like walk towards the closet and we shut up Yeah, like I understand you can't do that anymore And I'm not suggesting that that happened, but it was like having gone through that to then watch this kid Pist off and yelling at his parents that he can't have the skirt steak just enraged me So yeah, I mean, I just feel like with calming down right now Yeah, we were more like I mean you knew them when they were young We were more like they were a part of our lives They were a big part of our lives. They went everywhere we went I mean they went out to restaurants with us, but they never sat down It would be one of us holding yeah, there would always be one of us taking the turn of walking the child outside Yeah, there was a child acting up right we take it but

49:41There were like 10 years where Mark and I did not have a meal together But I will say that it Our whole thing and and I think our kids sort of got this when they were young that they were Lucky to be a part of things they were lucky to be taken along for the excitement and whatever it was but they knew they were not supposed to you're not supposed to Impact those other people around right you should not impact the kid is doing a fit. Yeah Okay, that's what I said They weren't getting angry at him throwing a fit. They were like listen. We've talked about this. That's why there's a children. No, no Take him out go one of you leave pick this kid up and leave you're in a repeat other people are watching this and you're not stopping it Like that's the other thing that they're learning that they're gonna get my my maybe I can shut everything down by just Acting up right yeah, and everyone got quiet and everyone's watching it like get lift that kid up and take him out of the restaurant

50:44Oh, yeah, go get the paddle No, I mean, I guess you have to set your boundaries and stick to them right But there are times and I mean, I'm being guilty of it. I have to be honest But there are times that you have I have folded it in the past by the way I think I did okay with my kids, but I've folded in the past just because it's like I just need to get through this meal or I need to get through this vacation or whatever it was And it's it's tough, you know like you want to be that like I just stick to the stick to the rules stick to the rules But like sometimes it's just like let's just make this pleasant. Yeah, I remember one time The kids were young we were going to I think we were going to Disney World And I think I think we were doing the show there and it was like a Delta flight, you know And And the kids were acting up and mark turned around and it was like me and the kids and then Mark was like a seat in front of us And he's like if you don't Knock it off I'm gonna have the pilots turn this plane around and I was like they know

51:47Like they know that you are incapable of doing it Like they know that there's no way you can't turn it around There's no you can't you're not turning the plane around they're old enough to know that you cannot like you cannot make promises That you can't they stopped though They stopped yeah, they did stop and then they started talking to each other like He can really By the way one of it's not to segue I'm gonna make this very quick But one of Joaquin's friends where we're walking back to the house He goes how long have you known Joaquin and I still listen to me I see one of my first segments on the show was Joaquin being introduced on the show And he's like no way how did it go down? I said well we had a bassinet up in the air and we We lowered we lowered the bassinet from the ceiling to the 2001 space Odyssey What are we doing He was like Joaquin was in the bass and I'm like no Joaquin was backstage You know I just realized you're also lucky I haven't really written the book
