How you doing on a Friday? Good morning, Steve. Doing okay so far. How about yourself? I couldn't be better knowing it's Friday.
There you go. I like that. Absolutely. I know. Beer Dave will be here in a little bit. When you talk to beer Dave, MGM resorts, what are they doing here? Well MGM is reportedly discussing making a bid to purchase people, which owns a roughly 27% stake in MGM resorts. The Wall Street Journal reports on this news, which comes after people withdrew its own bid on Wednesday to buy the rest of the casino and resort company. So kind of a turn of events here. All of course owns its namesake magazine as well as other publications and has a market value of about $2.7 billion. So stay tuned. What about this new dating app? A former executive with the dating app Tinder has launched a new dating app. It invites the community to vote on strangers compatibility. This is coming in a time when singles have grown tired of swiping. Apparently it's called rivet. It relies on a pool of volunteer matchers who rate whether two given people might be
compatible, Steve. Oh goodness. What are you seeing? I guess the markets today. What's going on? Well, it's looking like a higher open here this morning with oil prices moving down. Another yay. S&P futures up 28 NASDAQ futures up almost 200 points. Style futures up 169 at the moment from Bloomberg, Gina, surveyed on news radio 700 WLW. Thanks, Gina. It's 812 on Friday morning. Steve Hawkins and for Tom Burnham. It's time to talk to Matt Roush. Talking TV this morning morning. Matt, how are you? Pretty good. How's it going? Good, good. Great week. And now it's almost over. But this week in the main event, the MTV video music awards. Tell me all about it. Well, there's quite a bit going on in this show. And that's in last year. They're not just putting it on MTV. It's being simulcast on CBS, an MTV. And if you're a streamer, you can stream it on Paramount Plus. But I'm going to highlight this time. There's quite a few of them. Madonna, who put the show pretty much on the map way back in 1984 with her performance
of live of like a version. And she's been in and out of the video musical awards for quite a long time. But she's going to open this show. She is the most nominated performer this time with 9 nominations. With 11 nominations. So she'll open the show and I'm sure it will get some buzz. But right behind her with 9 nominations is Taylor Swift, who has accumulated so many of these awards over the years. But she's back and she's getting a first time award. They're going to inaugurate a new award called the MTV VMA Artist Director Award to acknowledge the fact that she has directed her own music videos for years. And they're going to premiere a new Taylor Swift music video during the show for her song Patient Zero. So she'll be all over the show. So that ought to bring some audience to the program. During the program you're going to get a tribute to Dolly Parton, which I think many over this next year are probably every musical award show I'll be doing this. But Casey Musgraves is going to be leading that tribute to the wonderful Dolly Parton. There's also going to be a tribute to George Michael during the show. It's Snoop Dogg is the host.
So that ought to be fun and of itself making for a high old time. Yeah, Nirvana is going to be getting the video Vanguard award. And so they'll be honoring that band as well. So lots and lots of music to go on there. But that's going to be Sunday night on CBS and MTV. And anywhere you're going to get a lot of viral clips out of that one, I'm sure. Yeah, we got reboot alert here times to a different world and swat both coming back. Yeah, two very different shows here. Yeah, yesterday Netflix dropped a reboot of a different world, which was the very popular sitcom that spun out of a cause we show back in the late 80s and ran it in 1993. Set at this HBCU college, Hillman college. And so it's sort of nostalgic here, but it's also contemporary because it's about a new generation of undergrads, although some of the original cast members of a different world are back, including the two breakout stars, Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hartison, who played Whitley and Dwayne. And at the end of the series, they got together, but their daughter Debora, don't call her
Deborah, that Debora is the daughter. She's the new kid on campus and she's outspoken and she's a student activist and she gets under her parent's skins because her parents are benefactors and they help run the college. But the college is going through some financial tough times. They're trying to reflect some of the realities of what a historically black college is going through during this polarized period because the original series, even though it was a traditional sitcom with a steady audience. It dealt with a lot of issues. This one has a very different tone. It's not done in front of a studio audience. It's filmed with a single camera like a film. And so it sort of feels like a different version of a different world. But if you like the original series, you might like this one. And that was on Netflix. That's available now. But as of today, SWOT, which was a... It's also a rebooted series on CBS, but it ran for eight seasons. But for the last couple of years, it kept surviving cancellation. They would announce it was canceled and it would come back for another year than the final season. It wasn't the final season. But it's been off the air for a bit. It's coming back, but it's been retitled SWOT exiles.
It's going to be airing on Star's premium channel, not CBS. So SWOT exiles, the one thing that doesn't change is that Shamar Moore is back as the team leader, Hondo. He's managing a new crew of young, I guess you would call them outcasts, but they all come together. And as always, on SWOT, they run into danger when the regular police can't handle it. Set in LA. But if you were a fan of SWOT, you might want to check out SWOT exiles. First episode here is tonight on Star's and also streaming on their app, just like everything else does. Yeah. We're remembering the Unibomber, I guess. What's going on here? Well, Netflix today drops the movie, which remembers that reclusive terrace who sent bombs through the mail for several decades. But it's sort of about the making of the Unibomber. The main star is Jacob Trimbley, who, about 10 years ago, he was a little kid who was in the movie Room, which was an Oscar-winning movie. So now he's grown up to be a teenager, but you see him as this prodigy going to Harvard. And he's being subjected to the psychological experiments by his professor who's played
by Russell Crowe. So as you see the development of Ted Kaczynski into this very troubled man who becomes a reckless and does all that horrible stuff, it also is a timeline where you're also doing the manhunt. And Shalaine Woodley, who just won an Emmy, this woman won an Emmy for the series Paradise, a wonderful role she had on that show. But Shalaine Woodley has played the FBI agent leading the manhunt. So if you're looking for a true crime, Dr. Dramma, that's available today on Netflix. All right, and real quick here, if we're keeping score, Simpson start their 38th season on Sunday. 38th season. Wow. It breaks records every year. And last year, it surpassed 800 episodes, which is just unthinkable. But it's still going strong. It's been renewed for a couple more seasons. Back on Sunday, and in the season opener, the wonderful Emma Thompson is the guest voice, playing this children's book author who comes just Springfield and lives it up and Humors trying to ask order and things go out of control because they always do. But having Emma Thompson is voice, she's really going for it. So again, I think by the time it's off the air, everybody in the world will have been a guest voice on the Simpson's.
All right. Matt Rouse talking TV. How do we connect with you? TVInsider.com, David Column. What's worth watching? Cause there always is. Thanks so much, man. I appreciate it. Thank you. 18 on this 700 WLW. Chuck Ingram looking at the roads. I am indeed. It's been kind of rough out there this morning. There were a few off spots. Yes. And it's going to be rough over the weekend. Oh, yeah. That's for sure. Especially if you're trying to get in and out of downtown on 75. Well, basically, forget that. You're not going to be able to do it. After 11 o'clock tonight, highway shut down because of the new Lin Street work that needs to be done over the highway northbound. You'll have to exit off to Washington way southbound. Need to exit before you get to Freeman. Right now I'm seeing some slow traffic northbound 75 between buttermilk and Kyle's. Converse CEO Aaron Kane has met with employees condemning racism and apologizing for a recent advertisement that was criticized for evoking the Ku Klux Klan and lynching. Sources tell Bloomberg that in the Boston meeting, Kane said Converse was hiring a third party to evaluate its processes.
One person familiar with the situation says it was the first time he'd address the full Converse team in person since the ad was pulled. Nike owns Converse, which has posted 13 straight quarters of revenue declines. President Donald Trump's economic advisors are analyzing the ramifications of a potential short-term ban on US diesel exports. That's according to Republican Senator John Hoveon of North Dakota. Several farm state lawmakers have urged the president to limit foreign sales of US diesel as prices spike at the peak of the fall harvest season. And the stock futures were moving higher this morning as crude oil prices move lower. From Bloomberg, Gina Servedi on News Radio 700-WLW. Thanks so much, Gina. It's 842-700-WLW. We've had a couple of minutes here with Steve and Portnoy. NBC News, National Course, Spine and Washington. Hey, good morning, Stephen. Morning to you, sir. Hey, real quick. Explain it to our listeners again. What happened? These people got kicked out of the White House. Press core. Is that what happened and now they're back in?
Well, they're back inside the gates. They can access their physical equipment and their workspace, a court order. Yesterday morning says that the president, well, the judge is bound by long-standing presidents here in Washington, DC, when it comes to press access to the White House. The White House opens its doors to reporters generally as it has from more than 100 years that the White House can engage in viewpoint discrimination and say, well, we like you are reporting you're allowed in, but we don't like yours and you're not. And so the judge ordered the access restored. What remains an open question is whether CNN in particular will have regular access to the television network pool and allow me to explain. I know we've talked a lot about it, but this is a long-standing arrangement that goes back to 1947. The pooling of television coverage at the White House is as old as television itself. Harry Truman, the first president to appear on television from the White House, that was a pool arrangement never since. The networks have shared their facilities and costs to allow for the country, the world, and history to see the president see. Today, we're going to see the president of the United States standing alongside Xi Jinping
at the National Archives and CNN has been credentialed to provide that coverage at the National Archives. So it looks like today everything will be normal. There will be a CBS television crew that will travel with him at CNN crew. We'll be state. It will be positioned at the National Archives to transmit those pictures and we'll see what happens after today. But what a remarkable and historic and really frankly sad state of affairs here when it comes to the restrictions on press access. And Trump just got ticked off at those three media members. Is that what happened to start everything? Well, yeah, I mean, look, it was a week ago today. The president was in the Oval Office. He announced that he'd be banning these outlets from accessing their longstanding workspaces and positions at the White House. He said their coverage was too negative. The ban took effect on Saturday. Passes were confiscated by the Secret Service. Oh, my loss. It was filed and the district court judge said, no, sir, you can't do that. He ordered the passes for store and that's where we are this morning. Goodness. Steve, important. ABC News National correspondent Washington, thanks so much.
We'll talk to you next week. Okay. You bet. I covered up an 845 chucking rooms in here this morning working on traffic. What are you seeing out there? I am seeing a new accident just below South Lebanon. That's northbound on 48 stone Brookway. This from the UC Health Transfig Center. Blood cancer patients deserve every option under one roof. Find the region's experts at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center called 513-585 UCC, see all clear Eastbound on 129 after 747. South Bend 75 continues to run an extra five minutes in in Abilokland. Chuck Ingram News Radio 700 WLW. I'd deny in first warning whether for cast center the fog lifts off this morning. The rest of the day sunshine looks like a perfect day with a high 70 seven o'clock tonight for high school football kickoff that East Central Harrison game going to be mostly cloudy 65 degrees around the tri state. And it's supposed to be dry, all right. And the entire weekend looks like sunny and pleasant low 70s.
All right. This is just a perfect Cincinnati weekend. It's 50 around the tri state at your severe weather station news radio 700 WLW. It is Friday, which means beer Dave joins me next. I need 55 Steve Hawkins in for Tom Brennan. Let's head out to beer Dave territory. Good morning, beer Dave. How are you? Hey, good morning Steve Hawkins. I'm all set for you here. Let's start out with barley corn's brew house. They're celebrating 925 the tribute to Dolly Parton. What are they doing today? So they are partnering with the blue marble books and also the imaginary library. So a lot of the proceeds from today's event will go towards those causes, which will continue to help youth reading and stuff, which is very important as we know. But also why not celebrate Dolly? Absolutely. And if you don't know yet, it is September the 9th month.
It's the 25th day. Therefore 925 like her song and movie. So that's the day. It's good for them. What's going on here in Mount Orab? So sons of toil is turning nine this this month. They've been celebrating all week and they're going to conclude up through Sunday. But they've got all kinds of Dolly specials, various food trucks, all kinds of things going on and then on Saturday. They're going to also have an artisan market, which will have various things, including locally grown foods as well as crafts and stuff like that. But a lot of different releases going on to celebrate nine years. Again, but out there that's really worth to drive out to Mount Orab. Sure. I want to try their breakfast out that they got on Sunday. Street Street, side brewery, celebrating Wow 10th anniversary. Yeah. And these guys they kicked us off starting today and they've got a number of barrel age
beers that they're releasing, including one that's 15.1 percent and other one that's 17.2. Wow. Obviously not something you're going to want a full pint of. You're probably going to want to do a flight of some of these. Yeah. But they've got various local breweries around the Tristate area that they're partnering with and one of these is even aged for 63 months in a barrel. Wow. I want to try that black raspberry beret. That sounds good. Braxton's I've never had a bad time going to Braxton's. What's going on there? The factory. So they're location. Yeah. They're at factory 52. They are doing their October fest. It started yesterday and it'll run through Sunday, various October fest music and foods and other activities and stuff. So if you haven't been over to factory 52, that's really a neat area. Why are you around and why not have a beer in your hand? Absolutely. They got the sausage toss. My favorite.
There you go. I like that. Every brewing on Saturday, they're hosting the GoHop, your Alexandria Fest party. Tell me about this. So they're releasing two different beers. The GoHop is their double IPA and then Alexandria Fest is also being released, which is their October fest beer. So they decided, well let's merge them together and have a festival. So they'll have a Stein Holding contest and various other things going on, including a one-leaders Stein that you can get $12 refills for. The Stein Holding contest, everybody thinks that's easy, but try to hold your arm out with a full beer for five minutes and it's amazing how painful it gets. Absolutely. And, talking about coming up this Tuesday is Ohio Pint Day. What is that and tell me about it? Yeah.
So every year the Ohio craft brewers, they put out a special commemorative glass and one dollar of each of the sales of the glass goes towards the Ohio craft beer, which really helps them with a lot of different things. And lots of local breweries will be doing this on Tuesday. From dead low 50 West, Fred board, factory 52, Fred board, Gilligan's and pH 9 giant, paradise. There's just a lot of them that are participating, including third eye wandering monster and West side. Wow. Did I forget since I logged our house? Did I hit that one for their October fest this weekend? Yeah. Tomorrow from 6 to 9, we've got the Cincinnati Logger House doing their October fest. And they've got a one liter boot, which is an interesting way to drink a half the sort of turn the boot. Otherwise, you'll get a you'll get a face full of beer if you're not talented with drinking
out of one of those boots. I'm going to get a boot that's my goal for the weekend. Were you drinking beer this weekend, beer Dave? I think I'm going to do the two anniversary parties. I think all of me get out the suns of toil and definitely the streets side as well. All right. Have a great safe weekend. We'll talk to you next Friday morning. All right. Thanks, Steve. We're here, Dave, with the sun 700 WL W of the voice of the Cincinnati Bengals and Bear Cats. Dan Horde is joining Sloane right after the news. That begins right now.
