New GTA 5 Leak Suggests Rockstar Had Ambitious DLC Plans

But first Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, Saga Arts and Fathom Entertainment announced Friday that tickets are now on sale online and at participating box offices for the 20th anniversary theatrical re-release of V for Vendetta, which will be in theaters nationwide on November 1 and 5, 2026.

1:05The news was accompanied by a new trailer for the re-release, which can be viewed at IGN.com. The trailer features an anniversary inspired re-imagining of Chikofsky's 1812 overture by Jonathan Snipes of the experimental hip-hop group Clipping. Based on the iconic DC Vertigo graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, the 2004 film was directed by James McTeeke and produced by the Wachowskis. The 20th anniversary screenings will include Freedom Forever, an exclusive featurette where director McTeeke reflects on the making of the film and its relevance 20 years later. And AMC theaters has revealed its exclusive popcorn bucket for the upcoming Street Fighter movie and it's a wearable item shaped like Guile's hair. Popcorn buckets have become highly sought after collectibles for fans and viral marketing sensations for cinema chains and theatrical exhibitors. The sandworm popcorn bucket from Dune Part 2 kicked off an increasing game of one upmanship from studio marketers and theater chains alike. Indeed, Ryan Reynolds dubbed 2024 the year when the War of the Popcorn buckets began in his unveiling of the Deadpool and Wolverine Popcorn bucket. GTA 5 has suffered a new leak that suggests rockstar games had ambitious city-sized DLC plans for the game. Reports emerging online Friday indicate a near 200 gigabyte version of the GTA 5 source code initially leaked in 2023 has now been made public. And interested parties are analyzing it as we speak.

4:10The highlight here is what looks like a Liberty City DLC for GTA 5 that obviously never saw the light of day. GTA Online's enormous success steered rockstar away from story DLC towards multiplayer focused updates. According to Exxor Twitter user TJGM, the Liberty City DLC found in the files has been extrapolated and visualized to show just how much bigger this version of the city is compared to the one found in GTA 4. Here's a look at the expanded Liberty City layout they tweeted. This outline of the map is drawn based on where shorelines are. The lines indicate zones that play shoreline audio. There is speculation online that this Liberty City DLC may have been held back for GTA 6, but there is no evidence to suggest this is rockstar's plan. More has emerged from this leak. Agent Trevor DLC mission names, cut vehicles, cut dialogue, cut cut scenes and more. On Agent Trevor GTA fans have known for some time that rockstar worked on a single player DLC for GTA 5 that would have seen Trevor assume the role of a secret agent.

5:19In 2024, actor Steven Augsett rockstar originally planned to make a story expansion focused on his character Trevor with it thought to have fallen by the wayside as the developer focused on the cash cow that was GTA Online. Aug was joined by Michael actor Ned Luke and Franklin actor Sean Fontino in a questions and answer session with streamily and the trio shed light on what they claimed was scrapped downloadable content for GTA 5 that starred Trevor as a federal investigation bureau agent. Fans have had snippets of information about GTA 5's fabled story DLC over the years. GTA data miners have also discovered a reference to Trevor with a jet pack which suggests story mode DLC was repurposed into GTA Online as former rockstar artist Joe Robino said. In 2018, rockstar finally unveiled GTA Online's Doomsday Heist missions alongside the thruster jet pack. Last year, speaking on the Lex Friedman podcast, rockstar games co-founder and former lead writer Dan Hauser addressed the DLC for the first time insisting that if the developer had continued with it, it wouldn't have been able to make 2018's Red Dead Redemption 2.

6:33What approach will rockstar take with GTA 6? Will it go back to story DLC or focus on whatever the new version of GTA Online it has up its sleeve? Some think rockstar will eventually add multiple cities including Liberty City to GTA 6 alongside GTA Online 2 or whatever the multiplayer mode ends up being called.
