Ohio’s Tate: I think the Buckeyes offense is going to be as good as ever

0:00You know, maybe the best part of being able to watch anyone do 2020s is I just got to see Mark Koch talking about the changes to Hall of Fame voting. Yeah. And when when describing sweeping changes, he did actual air quotes in studio. I was like, no, pretty much everybody is explain them as sweeping changes. I don't think it's like I don't think anyone's like sweeping changes, but he even did it. If you listen back to that, you hear the quotations in his voice. He's like the only person in the world that has a problem with this. Is that the idea? I think so. I think he's mocking it. He probably has some really serious dynamic thoughts on this. We just don't ever need to explore. Yeah, because it's the Hall of Fame. It's my guys made up and they're just kind of museums and they're great. You should go to the football Hall of Fame, by the way, it's on the road. The Hall of Fame village is awesome, but he shouldn't be upset about the voting. Bill Bellachuk got jobbed because he's a freaking weirdo. That is just bearing fruit every day, but we're going to go ahead and switch gears here. Well, keep it in college football.

1:01Just leave it away from the Bellachuk's and the cocaine's and what nots. And of course, Mike Lombardi's rug, Ohio State gets underway this weekend against ball state. And our next guest is not only a Wadsworth grizzly. He's not only a Cleveland sports fan, gigantic Ohio State fan, and he's got a he's personally guaranteed the Ohio State Buckais will go 12 and 0. And for each game, they would lose. He has a specific punishment. That list is out. We go out to the Wyeshart right. We make it right. I'm making my own afternoon drive home right now to Columbus just just passed under the welcome to Ohio sign. So I feel like that's a good omen. Oh, very nice. You survived in Indiana, which I think is a very important part of that drive. Yeah. I hope we survived the drive right now. We need to survive their punishment here when we go back to Bloomington later this fall.

2:03See it's interesting because I, you know, I was thinking for each potential loss, maybe if it's like a more acceptable loss, it's an easier punishment. I mean, a loss to Illinois is you get a spray tan until you're orange. Oh, I did just read, I just read the parenthetical that your engagement photos are the very next day. You know, I'm not going to walk that one back that actually orange crush is a brutal punishment. Yeah, that's a, that's hands down. So, so my fiancee were getting married at the end of the year. My fiancee gets one veto a year once I come up with this punishment list. And she, she wanted to use it for Illinois so bad, but she's rolling the dice that, that if at home, it should be a night game. She thinks we're going to beat him. So she, she vetoed my initial Texas punishment because we're dogs in Austin. Illinois was almost losing at half before I got hell marry last night. I think you're comfortable. You think you're safe with Illinois. The Northwestern one is the one I'm interested in. The answer is exam one. Take the ACT until you get an average admission score in Northwestern. 34. You're a smart guy. I know you're a smart guy.

3:03I mean, that's, what if you just don't get it? You're just like practice tests until you do eventually get a 34, which, which is, that's going to take you forever. Yeah, I mean, the internet's all over for me for that one saying 34 is impossible. 34 is impossible. Yeah, I would have to take it every single time it's offered until I get it. But here's the thing that I keep reminding everyone, not everyone has that wadsworth grizzlies education. That's fair. It's good to go. They push you there solid point. Right. So we're 99% of the world thinks 34 is unattainable. I think I'm, I think I get a tuner. I think I go to class with a bunch of 16 to 18 year olds trying to get into school. I think I get it within a year. All right. I'm going to talk about the Michigan one before we get to actual, how stayed here because I, nipple piercing and I just want to, I just want you to know, take this is, we don't kink shame on the show. We don't lifestyle shame on the show. Yeah. If you just want to get your nipple pierced, you can and we're going to support you through that. You don't need to put this on the line for this game.

4:05We're basically convinced everyone just had, they have their kinks, they have what they like. And this is their way of getting that accomplished. Is that all this is for you? No, that's a soul. That's a soul, boy. You got to be on my side on this one. The internet tell me that like dude, you can just do it if you want. No, I tried to come up with something relevant. I tried to come up with something that wouldn't be the last year supposed to be walk home from an hour round. If you remember, it was a absolute blizzard. So I couldn't do that this year and I said, all right, fine. We'll do the Ryan day nipple piercing. But no, to be on record, I do not want a nipple piercing. All right. Which one is actually, because I keep going, I like to compare things a lot. Which one you're actually scared is going to happen. I was thinking nipple piercing versus getting a vasectomy. I think the USC one is fantastic. I think the vasectomy one. This might be just another one. If you don't want to tell the fiancee that you want to vasectomy and that this is, this is maybe again your work around. No, we want to have kids. We plan on having kids. But when you're 50 and a half point favorites, I feel like if we lose the ball state tomorrow,

5:05vasectomy is the last of my problems. Like you're probably going to be drive off a bridge on the way home. You know what I mean? Yeah, beat that beat that beat. Jesus, that beat. I wouldn't do that. Yeah, that's definitely not a punishment. That's not on the list. That's off the board. You can, you can, you can, that's a Norella story. Yeah, vasectomy also drive off a bridge. Yeah, dealer's choice. We should be fine. The one, the one that I'm least looking forward to that I think we can lose. One, if I do, if we lose the organ, repeat would kill me. But USC, so my boss big cat, he gets a button that he gets suppressed. And if, if I'm not, he presses it says USC. And if I'm not in a ocean within 24 hours, I get fired. And so that could be Christmas Eve. That could be the Michigan game. That could be my honeymoon. That could be my wedding. So we're going on the road to USC. It's a seven point spread right now. That's something that could be a serious issue. All right, Tate. Let's get to Ohio state here. I'm a, I'm a little torn because I actually think this is a great team.

6:06But like the people that usually that I start like hyping myself up with about the buck guys just kind of seem blah about this. I don't know if it is that it ball stayed this week one. I think everybody expects him to be in the playoffs. But for a team with this much talent and this much upside, I'm not feeling the, the buzz, the juice amongst my Ohio state brother. And I'm not sure if you're feeling that same way. But it's interesting. I'm with you. There doesn't seem to be around a lot of buzz both in the Ohio state crowd, but also in the national media, everyone wants to point out that our schedule's tough. And this could be the year that, you know, the streak ends of 15 straight seasons with two or less losses or this could be a year that we missed the playoffs. But then you look and they voted as number one in the A.P. poll. So and we bring back a Heisman, you know, finalist and saying we bring back a two time all American and Jeremiah Smith are often should be loaded a thousand yard Russia and Bo Jackson. And I think the biggest thing about this buck guy team, I think we improved at the offensive coordinator position 10 times over by bringing in Arthur Smith.

7:10So I, I think that our offense is going to be as good as it's ever been here. I am nervous a little bit that we replaced so much on the defense for the third straight year. Yeah, it's interesting. You know, you brought to my attention the all the on three list of all the, all the media predictions and everything. And you're not on the list somehow, which I think is insulting the way I'm sure you think it as well. Only two guys at Ohio state and one of them is urban Meyer, which just kind of feels like that's a given. I, I don't get it. Isn't this team supposed to be, you'd think this team would be as dominant as ever? Yeah, I really feel this. This is in Ohio state trolling. I feel like people have a Ohio state fatigue. I feel like we've been the gold standard of college football for so long right now that they just want to find a reason to nitpick us. Last year it was the schedule. Last year was the pace of play this year. It's going to be our schedules too tough instead of last year being easy. I don't know. I don't necessarily understand why this team isn't, you know, being sub sung their praises. We bring back so much talent and we have such a good coaching staff. But yeah, people, people want to pick everyone but the buck guys right now.

8:11So we're an interesting spot here where I do think Ryan Day is going to get a second national title in Columbus. And I just wouldn't surprise me if it was this year because of everything they have on offense. I mean, this could be, I almost, I almost feel like you can't talk enough about how great this offense could be. That being said, I'm in a weird spot of, of doing the championship comparison thing because in my head, Ryan Day still isn't the coach that urban Meyer is and still isn't the coach that Jim Trezel is. But by simple math, if he's got twice the amount of Natties as either does it Ohio state, it begs a question with one more Natti does Ryan Day overtake those other two amongst the all time great Ohio state coaches. I mean, if you look at winning percentage and you look at Natties, then and he gets that second one, the answer is yes, but the one thing that that the outside perspective never sees is his record against Michigan is nowhere near what Trezel and Urban's is. And I think that matters to buck I fan.

9:12So ultimately, I think that Ryan Day's best quality is he wins every game he's supposed to win, except for that Michigan game. Whereas urban, yes, I loved urban. I love Durban as a recruiter. I feel like urban got the boys up for the big game. Urban Meyer was known to drop a game we shouldn't or we should have won from time to time. Ryan Day has not done that outside of the rivalry. And if he gets that second national championship, I think it's tough to argue against them. All right. We're making a real Sophie's choice here. Portano ecology and says you're going to $10,000 bonus bet. You got to choose one person to win the Heisman this year. Are you choosing Saiyan or are you choosing Jeremiah Smith? And that's a tough question. I want to know what you got to say because my thing is this Jeremiah Smith, I think has the opportunity to have the signature moment, the signature catches what he's also going to get double teams and double covered and triple covered. And then Julian Sands is going to benefit from it. So I would bet I would bet Julian Sands, but I do think that the national media would be more likely to vote for a Jeremiah Smith. What do you guys think?

10:12So it's interesting. I do feel like there's already a natural build for Jeremiah Smith, but this has been such a quarterback award. Mostly I know, I know there have been a couple skill players to win it that it feels like if both are great. I think Julian Sands, I'd actually give the edge to Julian Sands by the time we get to the end of the season. I think Jeremiah has got the better story. And I think that that usually prevails with the Heisman, who's got the best story? Who do the writers know and respect and then think to themselves? Hey, Jeremiah Smith is going to be a great NFL player. I don't know why this part is part of the equation, but it is. We don't know what Julian Sands and he was awesome last year and he did get Heisman votes, but I feel like I've had the narrative for Jeremiah Smith is just that much larger. I agree with that. And I think the narrative on Julian Sands, like I'm still riding with my guy no doubt about it, but I do think people are a little bit soured in the national media right now after chirping our easy schedule for 12 games. And then in the two biggest moments, we lose 13 to 10 to Indiana because he can't get a quarterback sneak and then he's running all over the place except for across the line of scrimmage against Miami.

11:13So I think Buckeye fans are still high on sand, but I do agree the national media right now. It would be more likely to vote for Jeremiah Smith. And I'll say this one more thing. I'm real interested tomorrow. 50 point favorites against ball state is Ryan Daygan, a force feed Jeremiah and start this Heisman campaign. Or is he not going to like if he comes out of this game tomorrow and he has 149 and two scores, then I would say Jeremiah Smith is going to be is going to be a favorite. But if he comes out and he's trying to rest everyone up for Texas, then I don't necessarily think Ryan Day's showing that he cares that much about it. I know there was a comment. I think it was Josh Pate that said it that there was, you know, he had heard a concern or two about Julian Sands. I can't remember it was like that dog in him or work ethic, but it was something that occasionally I hear about college quarterbacks from time to time. I hear I'm gasping the guy up as a Heisman guy, but are you certain that Julian Sands will take a step for this year? I need to see him. I need the one thing I miss about my Ohio State quarterback. And there's not a throw Julian Sands can't make it with our receivers.

12:16I mean, it's going to be as explosive an offense as you're going to see in college football. But I miss the Ohio State quarterbacks when it's on third and one or third and two that we can just run behind someone and get the first down until I see it. Like if you've seen Julian Sands first, he's not, he's even smaller in my opinion in person than he is on TV. And I think that the will howers or the Justin steals or the Cardale Jones or the JT parrots third and one, fourth and one, we just ran the quarterback. If we can do that, I think we're a better football team because of it. But right now I don't trust that it's going to happen. Fair, but counterpoint. The internet's very impressed. He's dating a Pilates instructor. You're very impressed. Yeah. I think he's saying I think he's doing really well for himself. It's big, big something energy. All right. I noticed there's no 17. I don't know. I don't know. There's no 17 to know board for the Browns. I noticed that. Yeah, I was taking, I was taking some heat on the internet for not having confidence in my team. I think it should be reverse. I think if they win a game, I think I think Portinois should give me some sort of prize.

13:19All right. This is where I really get to take prize for each win. I like it. I do like the idea. I'm just here to tell you get ready for an eight win team, tape. Who's your quarterback on that eight win team? Well, DeShawn's going to have two games fail miserably and then we're going to should do it up. And he's going to make some big mistakes. He's also going to make some big plays and it's going to be fun to watch and they will be competitive. You heard it here first. I hope you're right. I'll take the odds that the quarterback week 17 is not on your roster right now. I think, and I think that your quarterback next year's not even the NFL yet. I think that I don't think either quarterback is your answer here. Are you disgusted that it's DeShawn week one? I mean, here's my thing. If if if Shadur was even close to the answer, I feel like the Browns would start them. They're taking so much hate, so much heat. And DeShawn's not the answer either. So I'm not like disgusted morally like I get in the NFL. You need to play the person that you think is going to win the games.

14:20But I don't see the long term answer. Like he's not our quarterback next year. Everyone hates him. The city seems to hate him. He seems to hate the city. So that tells me that he must be better than should her standards on a day to day basis. Or else Shadur would be starting. All right, Tate. It's always great to catch up with you. You you bring Wadsworth great pride. So thank you for that. I would say enjoy the punishment list. I think you're going to have to. I think 12 and 0 is very, very doable this year. So it might end up, might end up having no punishment, which which I don't know. Like should there be like a punishment if there's no punishment? I think if we go 12 and 0 I should be celebrating. How about that? That's fair. Yeah, let's get you a parade and that alongside everybody else. And the same way when the Browns win eight games, I would like to be celebrated. I'll call in and give you your flowers when they win eight games. And I'll and I'll have you call in so I can give you your flowers. All right, buddy. Appreciate you. All right. I that's tough for you. I go out to the cool thing about Wadsworth is like my buddy Jason, my buddy Jason Carothers. If I just tell somebody all like within a like a eight year range of of my graduating class, if I just say, oh Jason, they're like, oh yeah, we know Jason. Cause that's like that's how Wadsworth is, even though it's become a very kind of big town now. Ben you graduate 2003. I know I graduated in an oh four, but he graduated in oh five. So I've got a nice swath here. I can't that's in that. That's in the eight year range. 11. You got a little bit, you know, no, I don't think that's going to be a range. And the farther you get out in that eight year five year range, maybe that's about three years. I'm like a three year old man. I might have stretched it a little bit there on the eight year, but yeah, for my school, I get like a one year range.

16:22There's people I went to school with. I'm like, I don't even know who you are. I was listening to Ross Tucker's podcast the other day and he said it's the 30th anniversary of his, his senior year in high school. And I was like, that can't be possible. And I was like, oh, it's like 22 years for me. So that's great. Ross is almost 50. Yeah. Yeah, it doesn't look a day over 49. I never thought about how old he is. I just never thought about how old Ross Tucker is. It a lot happened to him once he already hit 40, didn't you? A real real life story. Four years doesn't stop you at all. Forties when you can really take off. Some are saying the forties are your best era. Are they saying that? I actually am. It actually, yeah, life's never been better. That's fantastic. I love that for you. I'm 37. I don't know it yet. Yeah. I'm going to hang on to the 30s. You just keep looking. Some are saying the mid 30s is where you shine the best. Awful, especially if you have like small children, just the worst, not getting. Some people say it's where you're really take off. Nope, not really. You're real stall out there for a while. I like all of our segments doing this. Some people say, well, you know what I should do.

17:22I should say, getting a lot of texts coming in. And then I should just base every opinion I have based off those texts. Is that right? Yeah. I think that make really compelling like radio. You think so? Yeah. I think people will be like, this guy knows what he's talking about because the 12 guys that he texts with really have some opinions that he didn't go on. Do you know enough people at Wadsworth to get Ohio's Tate into the Hall of Fame over there? No, no, no. Do they even acknowledge his prayer? Are they like my high school where they just act as if I never even went there? No, no, no, they've done some things for him, but the hall of fame, it's a hall of fame. I like, no, I like that. He deserves the recognition. He deserves these, he's brought, yeah, you said a great joy to the school and a lot of notoriety to the nation.
