This is a podcast from Rover The morning rumble we work with Jay and Dunc those not for radio guys with a way bigger podcast Your Josh Homme isn't just looking amazing isn't either lead singer. I tell you he is you know what is getting better with it I don't know if we can say the same ever since Roger couple of weeks told us he's hanging up his mic or his hanging up his headphones here at the wrong is just been on a downward spiral well I would refute that but He's just you're refuting a lot. You're just I'll be No, you're middle name's refute Roger refute deezman fairly yeah, I'd refute these claims that I'm Sorry, well, yes Do you want to actually hear one you just say Roger refute fairly I do apologize. I've been on here on the show for 34 years
Yeah, I have said the F word once before yesterday when you guys brought rats into the studio Who is your number one fear number one fear? Don't we bought on commitment I Get that Scary absolutely thrown by a moment on here a question asked him a yesterday by one Andrew Mulligan We were talking about wedding anniversary Questions and not as a good. It's such a lame question. Yeah, well, yeah I'm really through me on M.O.S Here is said question you refuse that you say the full word with dixion Yes, yeah, you're more like you're claiming you're more the internet meme sort of sound of fire Yeah, I thought that's 100% you think you're more in that line. I didn't really say that word clearly I think there's a clear cave and a breach of broadcasting Have a listen, why did you do for your 14 year wedding anniversary just
All these years he's never dropped their ball on it He did when we put rats on it. Yeah, when he brought rats and he was scared he did but he's never just Right, oh so bad Rugby would go up Yes, and how often does the TMO and all of that is too much to say we all agree on that But maybe it'll save you here, Roger. Slow it down slow it down. Okay, and see if it's clear or not What did you do for your 14 year wedding anniversary just So clear What are we thinking New Zealand? Yeah, it's pretty dang clear to me actually that Guys, I'm sorry won't happen again Sweet man Oh
You know what rog I don't accept your apology Well just I've known you're long time and the longer I know you the less you would mean It carries very little weight This is like I love you It's a real radio apology isn't it? It's so symbolic It's very important all he's doing he's only doing it to Caviris With the big big balls The abrid and Leon both unhappy after this many years to do that is very Unprepassioned you won't get away with that at the sound either No, well the good thing is where he's going. Yeah, a lot of the listeners of that station. There is don't work So you might be right It won't matter actually What do you say? Have like listening devices into the ears that actually filter out bad words So you You're our feelers the base of Rogers voice
Yeah, I radio braille Radio braille Oh, we hear is now one and done guys one and done say From now on next two months I can guarantee you no more if boss I believe you Well, say hey um when did you mouth-let you down on this? Yes, yes We've we've got some great examples that we're gonna get too next to celebrate because Roger not alone mouth-let you down on air well for us happened to me yesterday drop I've never dropped an f bomb on air not naturally I'm not just flipping out a natural one which if you knew us off here And I'm sure on your site wherever you are obviously commonplace But there are broadcasting standard levels and for some reason we're able to Not have it pop out of a mouth. So actually don't know how we remain this controlled because off here It's an absolute shock. Oh, yeah, especially from me. Yeah, but I don't even hear you off air saying that word like who did you know? No, you're right. Melody's sort of just literally came out and when it did off at all No, I didn't say it and I tried to backtrack But no, the evidence is there that you're not alone, mate. No, I
Here's my one if you missed it. What did you do for your 14 year when you're the first three just I That's slow down yeah, and actually now it's reckless just how much you playing yes So Georgia VM generally great broadcaster Yeah, radio station here. He was this went this played out live on air He was recording something and he forgot to delete it What he'd recorded so just played out on air and he's got his dag do on Saturday And I reckon he'll make some noises He'll say some of these words. He's generally Georgia Femm Tomorrow on George breakfast with Lee and Tammy it's all on at seven o'clock you Again Generally he let a couple of swear words go and it was just totally unacceptable It's all on at seven o'clock you
I So is trying to record something in yeah, this is just to give you context and then the system started to file and he thought I God damn it and obviously said that thing Start what he was doing yeah, however that we now to play it was playing on That's so awkward but not a one-off the whole day So then you did say Mal used to work with this broadcaster Alison Leonard from the breeze and look She's a fantastic broadcaster, but yeah, lovely lady. You know a week if bomb came out one day and it's iconic It's just to give this context She'd gone into the song and then I think had received An abusive sort of text or call And in her mind was responding to that message that it comes through So good this one Lunchtime requests at the breeze oh yes and the boys are in town at the moment Spend our ballet
That's one of the greatest I love her you know, there's a thin thin veneer of the breeze and underneath it's a cesspit Yeah, it's great used to work. Yeah, it's where it started. Yeah, look what Mel she she got kicked out of the breeze and came to the right Yeah, I mean, that's just a lot some naughty people there Yeah, yeah, my puddle Robbie and Jini, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, there are Auckland show Yeah, and your wife Sharon bristis is on live TV. Isn't it dancing with the stars? Dancing with the stars mate, and you know as we celebrate you were 34 years, roach Don't think we've forgotten about your time there. I know you haven't But dancing with us now what's it the season you're on? I feel like it might have been the season you're on My wife with the with the great legendary die hindwards now. I think she meant to she didn't mean to say count Now count Val in it if I say you say count ten times in a row as fast as you can get me a bad word will come out
Here's Sharon live TV, but of course all of your boats across the wake was still cast So that's why I'm on the hell glorified washing up to that mortify. Yeah Oh you Does yeah I have to worry It's what I'm thinking now I don't tell a word on this Don't you do tell Use the sky polo Riley Yeah, here you can tell how people treat you know other people around the way he's talking to his staff You're not good that's tomorrow and that is it for us today and we will leave you with a I can't do it We'll do it live okay Well do it live Do it live I can go right in and we'll do it live Fucking things sucks
Grisa Dennis teleprop Yeah, okay, and there's a famous we'll come back to it actually you format wallabies coach He was a broadcaster as well Alan Jones Yeah, as well as a few other things as well If you're impressive over 8,000 radio shows yes, yes, even off air you don't really talk like that a lot No I think there's worse people with potty mouth, so there are male there are yeah, they're more disciplined You do have to be careful even when the mics are off, you know how they off You know they're always kind of on aren't they fish with the lack of warning you give us Yeah No He doesn't even do that. He'll know where mid crook yeah Because he hasn't been invited into the circle of chat. He just turns the mic And it's a game it's a game of it's a game it becomes a game of crook Who's get who's out for it? Listen out for something else
So there's been great examples and here's Alan Jones who is also a bit of a piece of work former wallabies coach back in the day This is on TV right Radio Radio okay Because he was on he actually had a quite a very successful career as a talkback He was like the poor homes the mic Oh yeah, I've said me he was yeah He was complaining about dust in the studio He didn't know it was captured Yeah, don't f*** up on that bloody thing which you've lost the last two times I've done it You'll take that out now and give it to someone so they know it's on right You you dickhead I'm talking about the table right Oh this dust in here Jesus it's bloody insufferable How does this happen Well, I can't use sensors dust in here I can't breathe Dust and I've got a bloody record here I can't record it here I can't breathe Oh It just in a bit like I was talking to you as bros right Yeah, not being old It's like malware when we turn the lights on on the studio
That's right It's too bright It's down It's home bright as every morning I can actually see dust right here Is dust Well you do have a pretty chronic asthma I don't have respiratory issues Yeah, grow up Suck it up a little simbacore Oh, do that's good And very quickly as well Mal sorry Malz we don't have any evidence of this But you dropped an f-bomb on Krugger's Well, twice On TV Yes same night Same night Same Same issue where it was recording the show Yeah The recorder of the show starts at 10 to 7 Yeah Go live at 7 Yeah But the ingest in the system starts at 10 to 7 And we're just sitting there Mark and I We're just like Should you look at that Richardson Richardson My co-host and I just tell him to f off Yeah Like I was like F off Fuck Yeah And then it's live And then no that's not live But some button monkey behind the scenes Put the wrong time code in to start the replay Yes
Of the show Yeah The replay of the show went out But started at the 10 to 7 mark And it played out and they panicked And they played it out again So I remember watching And I was like I couldn't believe what I was watching I was like oh no Malz you're not like It's like he doesn't know he's on it He was texting him and obviously he was in the studio And get the text Oh no And then yeah Next time the heads roll round It plays again That's crazy Was I not trying to get rid of you That was Yeah They'll have to drag me out of that place They'll deliver it Today in rumble history And uh It's always good good fodder for us tattoos Any tattoos You know Bad ones Of course One's you don't remember getting Yeah One's a bit steam Yeah Holiday tattoos Yeah No they home made Of course Friends going But I guess top of that list is misspelled Oh so good And uh This is the moment from today And if you All sorry Kevin
So I was gonna say from 2022 Right Have a listen A mate owned a tattoo studio Says a text Got himself lost soul Across his fingers is fist Yeah Until a customer said Did you lose the soul of your shoe Because it's And it's supposed to be So you well I need to move on Lists Ticks in and said my mate Was getting chaos on his head But actually got On his head Yeah Chaos is in K-A-O-S They got co-ass Brendan I have a good way I got tattooed a couple of years ago I'm Barley and In Chinese But I got the translation wrong It's meant to say Resilient In Chinese Why But apparently They don't have a word That directly translates To resilience Yes So now I have rubber bands Oh my god Close Oh cool man This blue bed put F-T-W on his forehead But did it in the mirror So it's upside down Says pink What a pillake Great use of pillake My dad got his blood type tattooed

And he got the dates of his father's life tattooed onto his arm So, it had the year he was born And the year that he passed But they got the number The year that he passed away wrong They put 2021 when he actually died in 2022 Now, I've got a few tattoos Because And usually it stings all on Yeah Beforehand, you know, and then you get the chance To look at his in the right position Right, yeah Of course So this is where I reckon we shift blame From the tattoo artist to Carl Yeah Yeah Now, we got Carl had Well, no, no, I was blaming him Oh, yeah He's not wrong Because what I mean is You would have been able to check this Yeah, yeah I think Carl would have looked at the stings and gone Go ahead All good And then once Once got the ink done Maybe then showed it to his family And his mum's like Carl He died 2022 Not 2021 And so, once you got it fixed Now, the one looks so awkward They added like a little curve But on the top of that Like, we're just semen your old rules
That way Yeah, no That's so special That's special Oh, my goodness Oh, they're much This is a misspelled tattoo Not more of a rank one More rank Something that shouldn't have been spelled out at all, I think I used to work it out Tell us about this guy I've mentioned this guy before I worked with him at a seed cleaning yard And Nash Birdon This guy Not brighter spark in the bunch He He's on your ass Well, we were loading shipping containers one day He was telling me about his tattoos on his arms His right arm He had Pingers in the rear Pictures in the kitchen That's so bad He had tattoos on his arm Pingers in the rear Yeah, when did you work with me, Mitch? So, pretty nasty when his right arm Yeah, but then on his left arm He had his son's name So, it's all about bellons Holds him to balance it out
Goodness He had a yang Grasin Laman Shames Some great tics coming through too Yeah I might make one of Lion Red But unfortunately, I was spelled Loin Red That's a good one Loin Red That actually sounds like a key we are After a couple of orders Yeah, the Loin Red That's a nice match That's ordering Lion Red Mitch, you say it, Mitch He's not on You're not on A Lion Red Loin Loin Red He also wanted Triumph but got Tromford Yeah, that's good Thank you, Mitch That's good We've got the misses to kiss some paper With lipstick on it And got the outline tattoo to my hip It was good for a guy The lips Yeah Like that song From Hinder Lips in an Angel Exit with Blackhanger Just looks like It just looks like an asshole I get up Like a f**k

Nine years ago I failed In trying to do the chain I think you're going to succeed tomorrow That's happening as well But you reckon All this stuff Because you've been kind of failing a bit all week All this stuff is too easy What are we going to do now Well I needed a challenge I needed something trickier I needed tool And I've gone schism Okay, this is all here No, those are your don't know yet Here we're going to play all of this So you're going to play Adam Jones And Justin Chancel's bits Yeah, I'm sort of a one man band Gonna set up Oh yeah I'm going to have this but here Have a listen Here we're going to be doing all of this Oh my So that's not what I'm trying I can't Yeah So you'll play that part And then he's also going to come in with this This is a great song Holy hell So both of them And also Yeah I can't say guys Tool fans take tool serious Yeah they do And can I say guys Of what I've seen this week I have zero confidence I don't know about this I want to be proven No No, I don't think you've got
No, Roch, what do you have 100% no Bryce May I back you Thank you Thank you Look, I'm coming with a lot of confidence on a lot of things before But I don't think there's either been anything I've been as confident about as this Okay mate, are we ready to do all of this? Ready to do lights? Do you need a timer? What's he on on? Yeah, cue the lights, Creech, please Okay Okay Oh Do you just count me in, Mitch? Oh wow Yeah Fire it off, Rochy It's gone dark You're right Can't hear you, mate You're not on Yeah You're not plugged in You're not plugged in Hang on Not that much Okay, start again Start again Alright I'm just going to do some work Yeah, it sounded good One Gotta go
Problem Hard to tell Yeah Okay Wait till the Łoku gets away All right No Let's stop Stop Hold on and ease my方 Try this Stop it Please Stop Kevin Don't Come on Don!! Oh my god, that was amazing. It was sooo bad. I'm so proud of you. It's incredible because how you say the words, I rule the things all people know. I'll never be more confident. How do you feel there, when it's... I feel that. They energize me. Can you imagine, like, dry ice moving through the studio by all of that? What would you honestly give yourself out of ten before hearing a replay? I mean, these always roam for improvement,
but that's solid nine. Ahahahaha! The line-out of a hundred. Oh my god! I can't wait until tomorrow. Oh my god, that was... That was shocking. Yeah, it was so shit. But Miles, you do have news in sport on the way, and big news... Actually, not great news regarding the All Blacks, although I do think... Just to let you get to what's first of all... What's the news? Are you gonna hand scratch your moonga? It's out of the All Black squad. He's tall days. He's torn a calf muscle at training on Tuesday, and Feh, thinking on Nuffal, is also out with concussion and a hamstring injury. As well, Shae Fihaki has been brought in to cover for his injury. And obviously Rubin love out injuries for the rest of the year. Now, so Rod, back to you. Well, it's been a minute ago. Made a big call going into that, so... They claim. Yeah, well, this always happens, you know, Miles... And the stats aren't great for Australia. You know, they haven't won here. Since they've never won at Eden Park since 86, have won in New Zealand since 2001. We've lost Eden Park since 94. So the game's done and dusted.
We always get a bit worried about this. We have a lot... Have loss or losses. Yes. And we've lost to Australia before, in Australia. Anyone's a bit concerned, come to Eden Park, and we absolutely smash them. So it's the game's done and dusted in my mind. We're actually going on Saturday. There's all this fear that we're gonna lose, but I don't... I think we're sweet. We're absolutely sweet. Yeah, you are aware of the Rodch curse. Yesterday, there is a Rodch curse. It's been dormant. Historically. But not really with the all blacks, which is why I'm quite confident that... I mean, it's already in the bank, isn't it? Now, we're in the back of your... Let's go in the bank. We have timestamps this moment, because heaven forbid Rodch has cursed the A-Birds 40-year record, 32-year record, you know, 50 tests, whatever it is at Eden Park, all these stats. If it comes down to being, because of what you said, Thursday morning, prior to 8 AM, we will... You're entitled Monday Morning Show. It's said now to seek... We seek punishment.
What's on the punishment? Well, my first suggestion, and I love yours. You can get 3, 5, to 0. If we lose. What we're allowed to do to Rodch, if he has cursed the A-Birds. And if we lose, all right. I like the first suggestion as we get stuck. And so I'm gonna put your head... Yeah. ...and my nose a little circle, what's in the back. And your hands up as well. Yeah. You know that from the old stuff? Yes. Yeah. Well, well... Matches found some. He just found some now and what? You'll be lucky if we're doing his throwing fruit. Yeah, I've found some. We can get some show budget and hire these. Might be a bit high, 1.3 metres. We'll get a stool. Yeah, a stool, a stool would have. I want stocks, and I want a flogger. I'm teen on that. Yeah. We're gonna win by 20. Hey, a guillotine is a bit too far. I'm gonna see. I'm gonna take it off. Use it slowly. Whatever you don't try. Oh, smell. There I go. It's the eliminator. No! Ten of the biggest bucket list of hints on the planet.
You decide which one remains. Yes, now to enter to win the last trip standing, you need to register on the Rock.rover.nz. Easiest way to do that. Tickston gone, 352-0. Fill out the form, select which trip was eliminated that day. The final trip remaining will do after 8 tomorrow. The prize includes return international flights for two accommodation tickets to the experience and $1,000 spending money. Tickston gone, 352-0. Very important, you enter if you haven't yet. Enter today because tomorrow is the big draw. All right. This is such a big call. I know. I'm nervous. Such a big call. A lot of you keen to get it in on this to make the final decision. Because what you decide is what another different rumble listener will be taking away. Whatever you eliminate today is gone. Obviously in the remaining process. What we do today. We are going to do today that you can't do tomorrow. What? Hey, Julie. Hey. Okay, Julie.
We're going to play for you again. The bucket list trips have been eliminated. The two that are left here we go. Oh. They eliminated. Oh, pretty old. WWE USA. You eliminated. Shopdiving South Africa. You eliminated. Formula One Japan. You eliminated. Surfing in Bali, Indonesia. You eliminated. Supercar experience Italy. October 5th, Germany. Premier League, England. You eliminated. Boxing day test Australia. You eliminated. The oil of man T-Tips. You eliminated. All right, Julie. We're holding our breath. What is getting eliminated today? Oh, I hope people don't tell me. Supercar Italy. Supercar experience Italy. You eliminated. Thank God. Happy was there. Oh, my goodness. Oh, that's amazing. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Yeah, good on you very much the choice Thank you guys I hope that's okay with everyone at the end of the talk No, but yeah, no good stuff. I couldn't think about being a place to go Well, that's the prize we give away tomorrow October fest in Germany. You've got yourself a hundred dollars
She's well-jeweled so well now so you need to put in today supercars experience in Italy get yourself in the drawer And good luck tomorrow Friday for this the morning rumble eliminate. You wanted that one too, right? Didn't you want supercars to win? I did want supercars to win. Yeah, but it's not going to You may you can't even you wouldn't even be allowed to you're a B. Wait. E guy And you're a B. Wait. E guy You're not being a Ferrari or anything like that. I just mean Roger now to a high like Well, that you I mean you are but that is true Bryce, but I'm sure I John Kevin good morning All black from 1984
Can I just say I love you guys? Like I think the energy whenever I'm here and whenever I hear you it's so important for people to have that energy It must be hard for you guys isn't like to The energy we're lucky we've got each other Yeah, it's a privilege to work with them some of the parts. We are lucky Now we are that we have a great chemistry. Yeah, because you can't buy you know chemistry and all that stuff Obviously though it'd be false to say we're always in great moods Which you know someone to like what the line of work that you're doing there are definitely days with some of us have to mask it more than others Yeah, we're lucky that everybody genuinely does get on so that helps boost that mood, you know It does yeah, I mean it's like a team Isn't it that don't like each other that's hard to win isn't it if you've got a team that's dysfunctional great energy Well, you don't have to like each other, but there needs to be mutual respect Yeah, there's mutual respect and actually you can get on yeah, right? So you can become a team and I think that's the most important thing once you've got that respect for everybody's roles
Then you don't have to necessarily hang out with someone all the time, but you can We don't like hanging out Yeah, okay Lost to talk about I mean let's get to the bled is low cup first And you've probably heard the news Richie Moanga is out of the test this weekend So how how's that gonna change things? Well, I think we've got a hundred and forty six test Correct backup. Yeah, and I think that's the beauty, you know, Richie Moanga I think is amazing and if you want to win a wheel cup and someone goes down like Dan Carter You need that two or three first five so we've had two in just yeah in ribbon love and I think Bowden will slot straight up Okay If they want to take a risk with with Josh, I think he's he's a really talented young man But all of a sudden we've got three Tens I'm not worried. I'm not worried at all. I think if it's Bowdie, he'll slot into it I don't know if it's Josh then it's gonna have a big day, but I see
I'm a shot at yeah, I said early level one by 20 points. He's about he also is a walking curse over the years and the Rochka people are now worried that now there's been this Confident that the 40 years of our record against Australia Eden Park the 32 years in Jailer in Park all these things like he's throwing into a bit of a shambles Yeah, I think we're it's since it's made so much so why don't you just keep that to yourself Yeah We punishments We're putting him in stocks and flogging him would you like to come in for the vlogging Monday if we do lose Yeah Can I choose the instrument JK will be sweet will be sweet. I'm sorry saying Like we won't win by that what we won't lose or is he just like a real? We lose He's flopped because he's so adamant that we're gonna win and we're gonna
I lost yeah now also too we've got Sujong Kehwin if you just joined us with us for a while and we want to obviously talk about mighty the unreal Movement that you've been a part of around our young Kiwis and we're gonna get to that very soon, right? But just while we're on sport just to cover this off before we get into the stuff that really matters Warriors you were in you zone warrior unfortunate loss for us at Eden Park Was telling you in the car park about it the other day some rough calls and all of that still left with a lot of positives No Like if you're a player you like you just gutted so I was gutted for them because it was wrong Did they play well enough to win? No, I thought they hadn't had the best game of the season But it should have been a draw and so that blocking you go to a draw And then if they had a lost I wouldn't well we just weren't good enough on the day. Yeah, right But those sort of mistakes from a referee and a TMO are totally unacceptable But the good thing about NRL which doesn't help the Warriors you morph that to the final
By your old TMO the referee just makes decisions and that's what when you get back to when I watched Ashley Well, yeah, I thought when he ran out of ref I thought this guy's good. Yeah, he tells the players he makes decisions But the TMOs turned these great referees into into No confidence people that go straight to the TMO So it's absolutely ridiculous into the to the season for the Warriors and they'll be gutted the whole organization and what did it cost us? You know like for me it's so hard to get to a final. Yeah, you know takes two games Even halfway through our best season with thing at all You know, we lose this one we drop out of the eight win it and we go to fourth So it's an opportunity lost and you can't get that back But you know, I just I just I think the Warriors had an outstanding season I think they've all got it. I think they've created something very very special for You know for the holder New Zealand their fan bases amazing. They've won the walk-up, you know So the walk-up crowd either goes to football or they probably walk up to football now because it's in the summer or rugby and they're getting the walk-up
You know, they're getting the I'm a sports person. I'm gonna go to a great event So they've had a great season and and I think um, you know When when Fischer Harris came, you know, I thought wow, you know this guy's won everything but never really took much notice You know, I watched you know, Cleary and all the other superstars. Yeah, and when you're a coach Sometimes you just got to watch one player So I thought I'm just gonna watch him for like 30 minutes. He was unbelievable Like he was getting back in defense like he was just this work A holoc But his appreciation of the game of where to be at the right time a lot of the times defensively I can understand why the club has actually turned around because this guy I believe at training is just like setting the standard So yeah, they can be really proud, but they'll be gutted like it's an opportunity lost and You know that's frustrating Yeah back with sir John Kubernex healthy minds mighty kids is designed for New Zealand children at support schools mighty does to deliver an evidence based approach to mental health education for years one to eight and we'll find out more about that
Yeah, or black 84 to 94 also you played So 142 games for Auckland Yeah, I'm still gutted about that because back in my day if you play the 150 you got a free car park for the rest of your life Right and Foxy's got one yet So I just kick his car retarded So Yeah, I was gutted about that yeah 44 you were saying before in that song 63 tests for the all blacks, but all blacks also Unlike now really you played a lot of midweek games and games that weren't deemed tests Yeah, so well, I played against Japan, which was on a test back then as well So they didn't call that a test to do now, but yeah 96 games You know midweek in the south of France where they just want to kick the shit out of you and well they're Testicles yeah, it's a bit of this but a lot more of that going on You know, there's a lot more fighting and so did you more? Yeah, did you play in the game where back Yeah, yeah, no, I was there that was that was an incredible incredible day. I always remember that not
Yeah, yeah Full out Merch and creature there won't know this Can I can I One of the most brutal games I've ever played in and in France they have baths and so you go into the change room afterwards Now buck went off so in my day you didn't go off. Yeah, there was no replacements like you know for the young people that listening You didn't get replaced in your engine buck went off with about four minutes to go And we're going buck going off. Yeah, so anyway, we go into the change room, you know terrible game. We lose And I'm lying in the bath and everyone's really quiet and buck walks in and everyone's a bit scared to say Yeah Yeah, who's gonna say that you know why'd you go off? Um, but the cheeky little winger here just said oh buck, you know what happened mate and he said oh I lost my teeth and he showed me that it lost a couple of teeth And I said oh, okay, wow and then he said but this happened and he pulled down his
Speedo's and his excuse me His scrotum was split in half But there was no blood It was just split in half and I nearly vomited in the bath. I was lying in and our doctor went absolutely Like you see no, no, so this was like it was like his underpants were holding everything together sort of vomiting and and Buck said yeah, that happened after four minutes So Even a half time Um, the doc starts freaking out because this is really serious and anyway, you know, he says to him You know, we've got to take you to the hospital. We've got to see a specialist all that stuff So anyway, you know, they take back to the hospital We all go to the aftermath and we get back to the hotel and bucks at the bar Well, this leg's why the par having a beer 48 odd stitches, but I think I'll be right
Great 82 stitches We probably don't have time another buck We love to hear them all but we do have you on for a very specific reason a very cool thing that you are doing So yes, so for those who don't know Mighty kids are facing mental health challenges mighty gets an early before the crisis point It's a resource for kids at a young age. It's free to schools runs on donations So I mean if you've got kids, I don't know brus you've got some eight and four two boys your JKs been to your Tyson's school is one to eight MIT. Why for those who don't know what does that mean? I just means mighty kids Yeah, we just want our kids to be mighty You know for me what happened is I woke up about eight years ago and felt that I'd failed because I've been the face of this in our country for 20 odd years now and our suicidates are still going the wrong way So what I wanted to do is look at it differently How can we look at this differently? I've got a whole lot of different people in the room We facilitated for about nine months and what we came up was we need a mental health curriculum for our kids
The first question I asked was doesn't it need to be for secondary schools because that for the high risk is everyone said no Our Tom O'Leakey need it by the time they get to secondary school right yeah, so then we went around the world See if there was a I mean to health curriculum for kids and there wasn't So we built one Travel round from school to school. You just been on a little bit of a journey. Yeah, like in Hawkes Bay What's what just what's the response you get we will come back just just mindful of time Yeah, and I sort of snapshot if you could John come with us. What's the response you get from the young ones? Oh Um, I cried and I've laughed and so two stories a young kid came up to me and gave me his pocket money And said I love mighty and my mum really suffers How young are we talking here? Nine you know old enough to sort of get it Um, the second was was another mother came up to me and she cried the other day and and with me and she said I just want to thank mighty
Um, because this is my daughter and she did not want to go to school 18 months ago Um, she had had what you probably call social anxiety now and um We got out of the school. She had a mighty class and now she's a leader in the class. So she has Um, got rid of her social anxiety. She's understood the emotions around it. Which is what mighty is mighty Um, let you understand your emotions and then give you the tools for that and so I asked I said What what is courage for you? She said courage for me was going to school So Instead of not going to school I learned that I was really courageous to go to school I also learned that the social anxiety that I had Making a mistake or someone saying I look stink and that sort of stuff was a lot of the times in my own head Yeah, and then we went to school and I realized that it was another two girls in school That was geared to come to school So it's just about understanding your emotions and getting the tools and the vocab are and up like when we We grew up as happy sad and angry, you know, we didn't know frustration. We didn't you know
We were probably called shy rather than socially anxious So There are two stories that that really rock me and and the nice thing is that it's um, you know, it's teacher lead We give it free to the schools But our teachers don't teach us we go in and teach the teachers and then they put it right across the curriculum It's not an hour of mental health. It's 10 minutes before your science 10 minutes before your English and stuff And the data is incredible. So yeah, it's been it's been neat traveling through the country Just really want to thank the all blacks, you know New Zealand rugby union gave me the bled is low cup So I've taken that with me You know, and so we had the bled is low cup. We had all these kids um Took it to grassroots took it to you know right through the south island. It was just beautiful It's really really important to understand how strong also rug beers in our communities and how people Love the game so much. They love the bled as they cup. They've never seen it. And so it's great to have that link Um, you know the support from the all blacks um around the subject You know, they're doing so much good work in in the space. So for me it was just a really humbling trip
So John cool. Can you stay there? We got one more can we come back? We've got time We start a good night stay And if you text in mighty m ity in fact if you text it to four four nine nine you can make a donation and also jk You're trying to raise five million dollars Can you tell us a bit about that because there's a lunch with yourself and from rock drive jay rives something's happening too Yeah, no, that's gonna be an interesting one a Jays part of the gypsy king so we get together three or four times a week and As men and have a sit in the sauna and have a nice plan. So he's uh him and I go way back He's donated his time which was beautiful. So I appreciate that yeah, we've got this amazing auction. So if you go into Mighty drive for five there's a whole lot of different auction pieces you can play golf with with grant fox and bowed and baritone surjon key And a few other prizes. So yeah, that'll be That'll be fun and yeah, so for me it's just about raising awareness with the biggest game of rag beyond yes on Saturday
525 kids will be a world record In the end of the park playing on Eden park. Yeah, so we've been through the country and selected these kids And we're playing on Saturday so that should be a bit of fun the all blacks are gonna release some some of their players So yeah, hopefully that gets some get some you know Yes, but for me um drive for five is about raising five million dollars because we're in 327 schools And we have 250 schools on the waiting list So for me that money we we want to continue to make this free Basically how it works is one of our coaches who are senior teachers If you if we get a hundred grand that's pretty much can pay for a teacher that's 10 schools and 2000 kids right So we've got 250 schools on the waiting list and we just want to roll about In New Zealand as much as we can and I did say that number But you can also text in MIT you wanted 352 zero you'll get the link to donate and also For that campaign to raise five million as well. It's a big thing It's a you know this
You know the challenges that the young Kiwis and New Zealanders face in general is huge like you be Well aware that for the last sort of nearly 10 years this show and station Has just made a massive shift in terms of making that a big priority And it never ceases to amaze me every time we have any conversation about it. We just said one Couple of Fridays ago when it was the final day of the rock 2000 I was like this is the day where everyone's up and into it I guarantee you today there's going to be plenty of people that are battling that a you'll never know about b don't tell you you know see end up going on to Make that terrible decision right? It just I don't really have a point to this rambulance but I just I appreciate what you do out there and I know a lot of people do And I know you would see the rewards of it when you see those little kids coming in talking to you like that like it's just so It's really big for our audience and it's just super important and I can just That's that's not a rambulmate because I tell you this is where we are with mental health You guys went around in the 80s right?
But the 80s beginning of age is fantastic. We used to drink yeah smoke cigarettes eat pies and no one gave us shit Yeah, because we actually didn't know By the end of the 80s they're going or maybe shouldn't smoke and maybe you shouldn't have 10 pies a day Right That's where we are with mental health the awareness is out there You know everyone's aware of it now the stigma's dropped But we actually don't know what to do. I have a daily mental health plan and people say why do you do that? Check out my better father better husband better friend better workmate So where we are now is where the awareness and what I want to give the kids is those tools Yeah, you know if you want to change something generational How do we stop smoking in New Zealand? We educated our kids and they went home and busted The parents right how do we change the seatbelt laws? We educated the kids and they go make it click out on that yeah make it click So with its education so our kids will now come home Your kids that are at a mighty school are going to come home and say dad breathe You know or this is what I learned at school. What is what is frustration for you dad? Yeah, you know hang on different conversations around the dinner table and that's what we need to do and what might is about
What are your just quickly if we can you're you're quick things that you do as an adult to improve your mental health each day So I have six pillars yep, I know we've asked you before but just I'm really really important So how do you switch off your brain? I've got a monkey brain. It's always on the go. So I have to active relax it right So I play the guitar badly. Yeah, I read a book or I cook right I do is what are you doing for your brain outside your work? I'm trying to learn how to read music right how do you connect I connect three ways Through my phone through nature and through humans, but my phone has been Overtaking my other two so I phone fast It gets turned off and now before I go to bed. I turn it on 45 minutes after I get out of bed I have no notifications. Yeah, right because you get more inputs in your brain today than you get in lifetime What are you doing for movement and that doesn't mean you know going to the gym which is good if you do But just movement like walking doing the garden the last two are what are you gonna enjoy today?
What's the little thing you're gonna enjoy might be a new book might be you know a glass of wine with your partner might be whatever And gratitude When my psychiatrist first told me about gratitude, you know, this is 25 years ago But sinner can I press off that doesn't work? Yeah, you know I said I don't even want to be here and so what if I got to be great, you know grateful for and she said Did you get out of bed this morning? And I said yeah? She said well be grateful for that And that is now more before I go to sleep I think about three things that are greater my life and I do six of those things every single day And I add a cup of things um I sit with it and have a cup of coffee And my phone's not invited How many times do you go and have a cup of coffee and start? Never you're always yeah, so don't take that three minutes and just sit there when was the last time you were bored You know boredoms are beautiful thing, but now we're filling it with the phone. Yeah, yeah, so I'm really Disciplined on those on those six pillars So John Kuhn, and thank you so much for your time. Thank you Man, let me go 20 points 20 points
