The Texas defense, and I think they were probably, I hope I can look at it, probably pretty vanilla. We won the trade, so we heard a lot about in the off season and what the most champ defense has been, you know, synonymous with, and obviously, you know, Brian can tell you more about it too, is taking a football away. And they took the football away and training camp alive. They took the football away and this game too, Rahim Biles, I mean, for a guy to be a playmaker like that, is at the lineback position in the run game,

in the past game, and I really want to hear Brian start to fight. I mean, this dude, even from the jump, we heard about it. He was hyped up and still in the first game, who lives up to the height immediately. That's tough to do. Brian, what did you think? Yeah, I mean, exactly what Rod said. You know, when you look at this team last year compared to this year and we'll get more into that, you obviously knew from the jump what the emphasis was to get things going this year. So you could see that right off the bat and then jumping on what Rod said about Rahim Biles, you wonder who was going to take the spot of Anthony Hill? I think we found our guy. I'm not saying that he is Anthony Hill. They definitely have different play styles, but that is a big missing piece that the Texas defense was going to have this year and I think they found their guy to replace it. Talk about the need for disruptors, guys that make plays turnovers. He creates two of them, one on a punched out of a running back and then another one on a,

just peeling back on a little screen. It looked like for an interception. All right, other news, we need to go down the stats and talk about art shmanning's days as well as his receiving stuff. But first, I want to say thank you to flight the next generation of light beer with only 95 calories. It's an easy drinking upscale light beer design to elevate your taste buds with just 2.6 carbs for serving flights and easy to drink beer with a clean, crisp taste, try, flight from Yeanling. One other thing I want to definitely mention that we're going to be doing this week, guess is a new phone number. So you can call in, wait to hear all this stuff, Brian. We're going to have a call in so people can call in and get with this. That number, I'm looking for that number right now. Matt, what is it? Five, one, two. But you look like your studio is now part of Buffalo

wow wings or something. Yeah. We're doing it, Brian. We're going to have a little fun, man. Yeah. Yeah. Rod, we might have to renegotiate. Hey, and I'm telling you, and I think we're going to be doing some of these. I was doing some of these in the studio too, man. The OTF clubhouse is what they kind of call it. There you go. I think they got a big dry race board and everything. If you drop plays, it's going to be pretty fun, man. Hang on. Rod's going to be drawing up the next touchdown that Arghtro's on the whiteboard. But I'm going to give you that call in number. Five, one, two, seven, six, six, eight, four, nine, one. That's seven, six, six, eight, four, nine, one. All right, let's look at the stats from this game. If you don't mind, guys, just so people that are leaving the stadium right now get a chance to look in. Arghtro, and it goes 20 of 27, 300 plus, four TDs, one

interception, KJ Lacey in mop up duty, six of seven for another 55 on the ground Hollywood smothers, 10 for 70, Raleigh Brown, 11 for 34, Ryan Wingo leads the team and receiving the 121 yards on the day, including a touchdown on a shovel pass, Cam Coleman, two touchdowns for the long horns. What did you all think for the offense? Let's start there with Archmaning in his place. Brian, what did you think? Man, I thought the offense didn't extremely great job of running the ball today, getting that running attack going. They were able to get smothers going, Raleigh Brown, what the heck? Quite a few of them going. And then the offense line did a great job up front. I'll tell you, looking back at last year, early in the season compared to this year, early in the season, Archmaning looks way more comfortable in the pocket. When you looked at him, he was able to look downfield.

His feet weren't getting antsy. And we made a comment on those on few early shows last year. I think the one game that really stuck out to me was San Jose State last year. Their pass rush was able to get after Arch a little bit up front. And that was a little worrisome coming off the Ohio State game. I think this year with the Texas State game, I think that was one of the things I was looking for was how comfortable he was in the pocket. Because that gives you a lot of tell-tale signs on whether he's been comfortable with that offensive line during preseason camp. And from the very first pass play, I mean, they did a lot of max protect stuff, get two receivers out, which when you got Wingo and you got Cam Coleman out there, why not just let them to run down the field? But I thought Texas State did what they, what I thought they were gonna do, which brings some pressure, try to stop the run as well. They left some guys in there to protect Arch, but Arch looked very comfortable in the pocket. Obviously had a couple of mistakes, but it's the first game. You got some first game jitters there. But I thought they did a very good job of being balanced. I thought they did a very good job of getting the ball

in the hands of multiple, multiple receivers. Yeah. And kind of spreading the wealth and getting everybody involved. And then when it came to the running game, I mean, you saw guys all the way down the depth chart, getting opportunities to run the ball. So I think the one thing that kind of came out of this game for me was the amount of debt that Texas has. I think even though it's the first game, you know, even the first game, you look at just the stats right there, just receiving a rushing and how many players touch the ball there. That's a lot of guys getting the ball in their hands. Quality depth, too, right, Brian? That's what you're taking. Everybody has the fifth team running back, not one that can break on a dime and then take it in from eight yards out. That was pretty strong, which is going to be meaningful because Derek Cooper, the running back, third stringer was out for the rest of the game after two carries. It looked like a twisted ankle of some sort. Rod talking about the running back running game,

they started off strong with a long game to Hollywood's mothers. That was just what the doctor ordered because last year, if you recall, Texas didn't have a 20 yard run by a running back until like game eight or nine. Took a while. Yeah, and this was the very first handoff of the year. Yeah, no doubt. I want to say the step that stands out is that Texas had 12, 20 plus short runs last season. Six of those were by Orange, one by Wingo, one by Matthew Caldwell. So basically, you had four by Texas running backs. That's how tough it was to generate explosive plays in the run game. And then, like you said, ironically, first day on play of the season, handed off to the mother. And I'm not sure what that was. I mean, Brian probably knows it could have been, it could have been duo inside zone. I'm not sure which one it was there, but it was a really nice cut by Hollywood's mother's. I guess that's why it's got the name Hollywood. But you get the explosive plays back in the run game. And then you're trying to combine that with efficiency.

Efficiency from, I actually stand point from RGB, more efficient as a quarterback, fewer penalties were they four penalties? Were we at four? Four or five? Four or five. Okay, so somewhere around that, I remember that being what we talked about this to co-op, Bobby, that was where it goes. It was like, how many penalties should be the goal? All right, or how few penalties should be? All right, round five, five and a half. There you go, five penalties. That's good. Because last year you were up eight plus penalties per game. And so you don't want to be your own worst enemy. Have a lot of negative plays there. And then getting behind the chains. And also I think, arch was a little bit more efficient in the passing game. That probably helps because you have more weapons in the passing game. The check down, I think it's something that's back in the passing game. You don't have a lot of the check down last season because you're a check down with amount to two or three yards when you had Jayden Blue and Trey Weiss during 2024. That was like a five or six-year-old pickup kept your head the chains. And now with Smothers and Relief Brown, you may be back at that point. It's clear that Hollywood Smothers is the guy.

It's clear that he's the lead running back. I mean, they can say 1A1B, whatever. But not saying Relief Brown won't have his role in the run game. No, no, he's gonna have a role is clear. That's clear too. He may end up being the more explosive running back when he's all said done. But it's clear they like Hollywood Smothers as the guy that maybe has a most overall skill set, overall complete skill set at running back to be compatible with the sarcophagus. The one negative I would say about both running backs, there were not a lot of yards after contact. That'll come into play when you start playing in Oklahoma. That fills a lot of homes. Yeah, that holds as well as the SEC, like you mentioned. Also, Brian, you mentioned efficiency nine out of 10 possessions ended in scores for the long ones today. That's efficiency. And could have been 10 with if we go didn't drop it. Football is finally back and this is the time of year

And, but didn't you know you thought you did the pic though, right? No, but, but Wingo the play before. Yeah, I, yeah. That was so. And when I, when I go to Wingo credit, because I saw him earlier in the game, make a great grab. Yes. And was it for down? Yeah. So he's making more plays, but you're right, he's got to make that play that. That play in a big game, sales on the road in SC play, you're going to need him to make that play. I want to say those, like maybe those like empty formation and then they ran him on that kind of deep over. He was one on one. He's got a win now. That's, yeah. So I agree. He's got to catch. He's, at this point, the kid in the consent, he's supposed to be a early round pic potentially in NFL. He's supposed to make that play. You get enough to make, we know you get enough to make a play.

I'm not going, I'm not going to let you, you know, get making excuses on that one. You get enough to make that play. I got to say this, you scored nine out of 10 times, you're going to win football games. That would be the way to put it. Let's, let's just real quick, give a grade to the offense based on what we saw today. Brian, I'll let you go first. I'm going to say, I'm going to say a, I'm going to give him a, a minus. I'm going to give him a, a minus. I'm going to give him a, I feel like there was still some things that I wanted to see and I think that'll come with next week. I think that's going to come next week. I think the playbook gets opened a lot more. I agree with you with the running backs. I mean, I think, I think there's some give and take here with the running game. I think there was not a lot of yards after contact, but I think, I think when you look at it, some others made some people miss, especially on some of those runs

that he was able to, you know, gash. I think he made some guys miss that, even some of the runs that turned in, you know, four or five yard gains. I mean, he did run, you know, around two or three guys and made a miss. I do think there's more there. And what I mean by that is, is you could clearly tell Texas State was going to send eight, nine guys on some of these plays. And that's why they were getting in the backfield on some of these run plays and things like that. Blitz and on first down, they were trying to get Texas behind the chains. I think when you get into some of these bigger games like Ohio State and things like that, these guys are going to realize they, they got to make sure that they cover Cam Cohen, that they cover Wingo, that you cover and it mostly, you can't just sell out against the run, right? So I think there's going to be some give and take there. I'd like to see next week on what really happens with this run game. With Arch, I thought he made two throws that I thought he pro, three throws probably that I think he would like to have back.

The interception, of course, the one to Emmett Mosley, where he kind of threw behind him a little bit, that should have resulted probably in a first down. And then there was one throw that I think he threw in the, it was close to the end zone, he threw in double coverage or something like that. I can't remember exactly where it was, but it was like the linebacker in the corner that is closing on it. Yeah, correct. And so I think that one became more, you know, the interception or nothing. I think it was either that one or the interception. He kind of hesitated. He had him, he hesitated and then he threw it. So I mean, I think overall, I think they played very well. I think they got off to a quick start. I think they short up a lot of the stuff that they had issues with early last season, which obviously that was an emphasis. So yeah, I'd give him that a, a minus look right now. I think 59 points and an a minus. You do not want to be Brian Robison's pupil.

For me, it's just, I feel like there's more there. I get it. I get it. I get the entire playbook. And that's what I really wanted to see. I wanted to see things open up a little more. I agree with you. I'll give him a great a minute. And you'll, I think you'll see how I agree with you. I want to go to Rod first Rob. You're, you're great on offense. I don't think he's that far off though. I don't either. Um, I agree because I started out in 12 personnel. I'm just early on the game. Nothing wrong with that. But the, the, the truly unleashed the power of this offense. It's going to be an 11 personnel with, you know, with Wingo and Coleman out there. And, you know, I mean, Vosley or, you know, or a bishop or somebody like that. And by the way, Berkhart made some nice plays late in the game. There were a couple of that. He might made the best catch of the, of the, of the game. That was very no mind about it. Yeah. Okay. He knew about it.

That was beautiful body control. Anyway, sorry. I digress. But, um, but that's when you, and then being a smothers in the backfield or and or really brother. And by the way, shout out to sorry. I'll give him credit for this. We were unsure about how they were going to use the tight ends this year. I saw more usage of the tight ends than I expected in this game. You see overall and a little surprise about Spencer Shannon's role in the offense. And, you know, where kind of Nick Townsend and Missuna, um, kind of what the hierarchy of the tight end position is, uh, that is something I think that was a little compelling and surprising, uh, in this matchup to it. Does that carry over into the house that game? So, uh, from that mistake and you got three, you got three tight ends. They didn't know catching passes. Yes. Three and one of them wasn't the transfer Michael Missunis. Exactly. Yes. And that's a, yeah, to your point by me. I was like, oh, that's surprising. And it was early on, Spencer Shannon's the one that made a great play and give him from him because he ended up making a play on the sideline with some yakuya. And so there are still some things that are going to surprise me.

There's some things we know about this team, but I, I love the journey. Cause it's like, oh, I didn't expect that. The things that are going to surprise you about this group and the tight end position might do it. Maybe just it's the diversity of the tight end group. But, um, I think, uh, honestly, I'll give it a, I'll just go all around a, but I think there is a, there was a lot left, not a meat left on the bone. Cause the run game still wasn't as dominant as we thought. It could have been you had, you had explosives flashes, but you didn't have a consistent stretch of like, we can do it every one in the running game. And that's what you want. That's the goal. We can, we can do whatever we want in the running game. And you're not there yet. And then there was a little bit of inefficiency, just a little bit, not a ton. Hey, you, you definitely improved the efficiency wise, but a little bit of inefficiency, you know, I mean, you got to pick in the red zone, you know, there's a couple of penalties there. Uh, I think that was like some kind of bibles, like handouts and somebody, there's something, um, I mean, we've been nipy because we talking about national championship caliber stuff now. So we got to be nipykey about it. So if you want to be nipykey, there you go.

On offense, we mean, you gave them an A Brian gate, when A minus, I'm going 93.5. How's that for you? I'll tell you, and this is one of the reasons why they've got into a lot of third and shorts or even a fourth and short. They went over the top a couple of times. They did not even try to bully it. Uh, now they did a couple of times and we're successful. But to your point, even with a loaded box, you'd hope that, be able to turn out of your art, but that's being really nipykey to go back to Brian's almost original point. He talked about how last year against San Jose State that arch just didn't look comfortable. Boy, I thought he sat in the pocket really well. And then when he got out of the pocket, he opened it up. I mean, he opened all kinds of different pass and links because people have to respect his run.

I mean, maybe they weren't a year ago, but it was clear Texas State was not going to let him just run out of the pocket and go wild. And he, uh, what do you call it? What's the word? I'm a loss. It happens. I'm still trying to go back to it. I can't figure it out. My point is he was able to get after it and get out of the pocket. And still make plays and he looks so much more poised and composed to and Brian's point. He had three kind of throws he would want back. How many do you have in San Jose State? Like eight. You know, so I think that's that's improvement year over year and the overall, I go 93.5 more explosive plays and playmakers in this office. Bottom line. All right. Want to say thank you again, our friends over flight and flouced distributing

for helping us down with the stat breakdown on office. Let's talk about the defense two turnovers, one TD for Grayson, little ton, but I will say this. Texas State moved the ball. They had a good offensive game plan, in my opinion. We're steady moving it. But Texas comes out with three turnovers, only gives up seven points, two misfeel goals. So could have been 13 easily. Rod, you're great on defense for long ones. Oh, man. Against that offense, 2000 year receivers Brad Jackson, one of the better quarterbacks in that V best quarterback in the group of six. I'll go with a with an A there as well because I they gave up some yardage. I understand that, but I you got to understand I bet like so I haven't went back and rewashed everything. But my theory, Brian, is that they were going to be vanilla in this matchup.

A lot of basic basic stuff, basic coverage, basic fronts, basic pressure packages because the element of of mystery is one of the big advantages for them going to know how to say game. What is the most champion defense going to look like even DJ Kinney admitted. He had no idea what the most champion defense was going to look like until he got two or three series facing off the gets it. And so I bet they were pretty vanilla coverage wise. And I bet you that ultimately is, you know, why I will give it just an A. I know they moved the football, but I bet that's why they moved the football. Also, because Brad Jackson third, you're starting to quarterback in that system. 2000 year receivers, two of the better receivers in college football that, hey, they were going to make some place against that defense. And I think they made a few plays. There were a couple plays in the running game that surprised me. But I think most of that would do to like a mistackle kind of at the point. A few times or maybe just so I think ultimately they limited a really. I think I had them at 17 points. I think I had Texas A score and 17 points.

So to limit them to just seven points to me, I'm a given me an A. So I'm going A all around for the offense and the defense versus Texas A. Brian, beat your expectations. Yeah. I mean, I, I pretty much agree with everything. Rod said, I'm going to go A as well. And I'll tell you why. I mean, I had a buddy of mine that texted me during the game. And they're like, man, Texas is run defense. Don't get good. And I'm like, I'm kind of on the same thought process as Rod. I'm like, yeah, but they're playing a team that had 2000 yard receivers. You know, the quarterback can run the ball. So clearly it was, it was pretty evident early. And I'll tell you when it stuck out for me was when I looked down there. It's third down and some change. And I see Colin Simmons not on the line rushing. And so that he back getting ready to go into coverage. And I'm like, oh, yeah, these guys are like definitely playing past here. And so I mean, I think I think you didn't see a lot of pressure. You didn't see a lot of, you know, big time blitzes that I think we will see next week.

I saw a lot of, you know, just playing the past, just playing it safe, being very vanilla, not trying to show too much going into next week. And then I just, you know, I think at the end of the day, I think, you know, the biggest question going into this game was at the linebacker position. And I don't know about the linebackers as a group yet. But I do know that we have a dog at linebacker right now. And, and yeah, he showed up and showed up today. Brian, one thing I had to ask you. The quarterback escaped up the middle. Like he found holes up the middle. Is that something that the defensive line will learn to squeeze a little bit more in the future? Or is that just a sign of a really talented quarterback, at least from a scrambling perspective? I think it's a little bit of both. I mean, you know, if we're going to be 100% honest here, Texas State is not,

when it comes to a group level football team, they're not a scrub. And especially on the offensive bit, I mean, you know, you look at last year, they were seven and six, but they had a lot of points that they put up on the scoreboard. So their offense is legit. They have 2000 yard receivers. Their quarterback is very experienced. Their coach is a really good coach. And I think they do a great job of keeping teams off balance with that high tempo and then slow it down and go back to high tempo, switch guys in and out. And they really do a good job. It becomes a big time mental game when you're playing a team like that because defensively, you're trying to figure things out at the line of scrimmage versus being able to talk about it on the sideline or being able to kind of slow things down. So I do think Texas State brings, you know, some certain problems. Now what you're talking about, I will say that I think you have to understand when you have any quarterback that has the ability to be mobile and make plays with his feet.

Your defensive line has to be extremely disciplined when it comes to rush lanes. And when you look at it, the simple way of putting it is, is as an end on either side, but especially the two of the guys, you know, face, you cannot get to, you cannot come under too quick. You've almost got to play that down the middle role where you're collapsing the pocket, collapsing the offensive tackle onto the quarterback. You've got to have a B gap guy, right? One guy as a detackle, you have to have a B gap guy and then you have to have a guy that's in the A gap. You're always going to leave one B gap open, right? It's just, it's never going to be able to work, but you always have to have a guy in A gap. If you get two D tackles and the B gaps, the middle is wide open. And when you're playing coverage on a team like that, that's a first down every time the quarterback takes the ball and runs if there's nobody in the A gap. Okay. On the backside, you, you got to beat the tackles quick. And if you're going to take a wide rush, you can't see, right?

That's normally where that B gap gets left open is not where the quarterback is looking. So for example, if I'm a right handed quarterback, when I'm looking to my right, that's where I'm thinking my escape lane is. Is either that B gap or that A gap? If I've got a guy in that B gap, I'm looking to the A gap to escape. If that knows goes to the opposite B gap, oh, I mean, it's the parting C, right? If you got a guy in that A gap, well, now it makes it difficult because I've either got a skinny up in that A gap or I got to look back side B gap. And by that time, the pocket should be collapsing. So there's a lot of things that I'm talking about right there, but ultimately you want to have a guy that is basically collapsing the quarterback to his face in the B gap to his face on the A gap, back side. And then your backside defense man's got to be the guy that that makes the play quick. So I didn't see football is finally back. And this is the time of year when I probably have more action going than any other point on the calendar. That's why I like my bookie, whether I'm sitting around before kickoff,

A lot of that today I did see some guys that got out of their lanes that were just kind of, you know, and they were beating guys, but at the end of the day, they were, they were not crushing the pocket down on the, on the quarterback. And when you have a quarterback, they can run like this. That is the biggest thing you can do is just collapse the pocket. It's going to look ugly. It's not going to look pretty. You're not going to have these big time, you know, flashy plays, but you're going to cause issues because now the quarterbacks, eyes go from looking down the field to now looking at the rush. And that is a huge win. I got to ask you so Rod a rod. I brimed what was your official grade?

I went with a A as well. I'll go A minus, I'll go A minus too many big plays for my take. But I don't, I will add this. I am the least qualified of three, three people to get that grade. It makes you feel any better. I went with a 93 and a half. I love it. Right. Thank you so much. Hey, we're going to get to you all's questions right now. Let's get it going here. This one from D train, two questions was the bin, but don't break what you expected from much champs defense. And how does OTF fill about our rushing attack? We've come in and on both of these things. Rod called it vanilla. Brian said, hey, they were protecting for the past. What do you think about those two things? The Texas running attack as well as the bin, but don't break, which is not what we expected from Will Muschamp in game one.

Yeah, I think my theory is that I haven't gone back and rewatched is that it was pretty vanilla at the game plan. And I've been saying it all week long, I did not expect Muschamp to be deep in his bag and pressure packages and exotic looks and pre snap the skies and complexity. Just why would you like that's just that that means he's a bad chess move going into the Ohio State game. And I bet that's what you got ultimately from much champs. So that's why I think you got the bin, but don't break rather than the search and destroyer, right? Identifying our attack, the aggressive style, which makes for much champs against Ohio State. If we get bin, but don't break much champ, then let's have that discussion. Then let's let's talk about it. If we get that versus Ohio State versus a Julian Sand who cannot move around, who does not have that mobility of a Brad Jackson over 700 rushing yards last year, I think you'll get more, you know, more pressure because you know, you got a fixed target most of the time. You know where Julian Sand's going to be. Now he's accurate as you know what now he's accurate. Now he's, he's like, Coleman Corn is prime like he is.

Like he's that he really think he's the 77% last year. Even the light, I think this game, he was some freaky number of high completion percentage, but you know, the Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, the Redo and South credit, he's making the same size JLo size, but is you know, if you get to him, you got the best pass rushing cons football, if you get to him, you get really disrupt and discombibrate the whole system that Ohio State has, even though they got the elite receivers and all the skill guys. So I think let's talk about that next week. If it's been but don't break bus, Chef, I don't think you'll get that. I want to add something to the Texas rushing attack. I don't know if it's going to be great. I think it's better than a year ago. How much is relative in it? And to that point, both Rod and Brian have made the point. Let's see what it looks like against the SEC against Ohio State and then come back and say, Hey, what do we really think when they start playing against better teams?

All right. This one from Rod Bavre's helmet. Good start. RB is legit. So is Coleman with Wingo looking better. Biles, the baller game last year would have been 21 seven with five penalties. I want to use this time to ask y'all this player of the game. Was it Rahim Biles? That that gets my vote. Rod Bavre's player, the game for Texas today is in archmaning. Ryan Wingo, Cam Coleman. Oh, man. I haven't looked at the stats like that, but it's hard not to say Rahim Biles, but Ryan Wingo, honestly, if I had to go offense at defense, I might go run Wingo on offense and I know he had the drop in everything, but I haven't looked at the stats, but I know he had a great game too. It's tough. Rahim Biles, the first one is step salt. That's jump soft to page to me only you, but I'm a defensive guy. Brian, your player of the game? Man, I'm going to be honest with you that this is a tough one for me.

I do agree, Rahim Biles is probably there if not there. Oh, man. I got to give Jolani McDonald some love, man. Oh, okay. Very. I think I got to get, you know, when you start looking at it and I'm trying to pull up the stats here, because I know he had, did he lead today in tackles? Let's look real quick. Yes, he did. I think tackles and man no ball tackles and a TFL from a D. Yeah, that's right. You know, I feel like it was one of those quiet games where he really showed out. Like I think I think he made a lot of plays that are going to go underrated. And I think in order for this Texas defense to be successful, especially under Will Mous champ, I think the DB is going to have to insert themselves into these run games. They're going to have to be able to fit.

They're going to have to, you know, there's going to be some times that they're going to blitz and the ball is going to get outside and the deep corners got to make the play. I think that's what you saw a little bit today. I think nothing there was some some big plays. I think you made one play that probably was a touchdown saving tackle. So I think those are like little things that are going to sneak into radar. So you're right. Yeah, I'm kind of buying myself some time. I think I'm going to go with machine Biles, but I'm going to say that Jalani McDonald's a sneaky sneaky guy there that that probably could be in that mix right now. So he's right. Quarterback went for 300 plus ride. You going with Raheem Biles? You going with Archmaning? Which which way are you going? That's crazy. That's casually went for 300 plus. And he did. He didn't feel like it. It did not feel like a 300 plus passing game for RHS. That's great. That's scary. That's scary guys because of the 74% completion percentage. Did not feel like he passed the 300 plus yards. That's how easy it can be with this with this much firepower.

A wound you right and this much firepower. It can use casually. Look at and Ryan Wingo seven for one twenty one. I don't know. We just casually skip it over. We go. Come here to drop. You know, I mean, you get a drop. It ends on K. Do that because you're NFL guy. But seven for one twenty one. When come on now, that's a nice that line right there. That's so we can you can argue this for three or four different guys. That's be honest. You can make your argument for three or four different guys if you really want to. And that's what the lot of you guys was quiet quiet. Pace for the game. How did you say it? I mean, on 27 passes, you had 305 yards. That's right. I did not realize he had 300 angle. I thought it was like two two fitted. You know, I mean, he could. This is why my man CJ CJ Vogo. I was shot in the CJ Vogo. CJ Vogo said he's going threatened that coma court record. And that's why CJ's doing the. I think the quality arch March. I all see the low. He's going, he's going, he's going to track it.

And if he does this casually, that that that could happen because they didn't even emphasize the passing game. I don't think. I don't think they. Bro, let's think about this. I mean, we're over here nitpicking about an interception and two throws. And my man had a 74% completion. I mean, I'm not going to lie. That right there makes me want to change my pick real quick. That's real. That's true. That's real. That's true. I ain't going to lie. You right, Bobby, you might just be alright. And we just hate trying to. I'm hoping I'm hoping he's listening to us. And he's like, I'll show you guys next week who's playing again. I'm not giving it to him. Not giving it to him. Yeah. And they took him out at good point. Jay Perez and took him out in the early third. I'm not really the mid-thirt. Took him out and get third. He was done. Yeah. So that's two and a half quarters pretty much. I work. I thought KJ Lakey's Lacey looked pretty good.

He did, man. And what what off? What did Sarc say about them? They all think it's just moves with him. And you saw how you like, and often it's just moving with this young man. He made one beautiful off platform. I think it might have been the first throw he made. When he was saying, he's like, fade back. Oh, I was I thought he was throwing it away. I thought roll left through to get this body against heat. I thought he was throwing it away. I was like, he's throwing it away. Nope. That was it. That's why I can't give arts player to gamers. He had a better completion percentage than arch. Right. A couple of which would adhere. Did Tyler Ackinson play? Yes, he did. Played late in the game. I saw him in there. Rocky Cummings and Kozik Paula to other true freshman linebackers. John Meredith. Yeah, Meredith got some time. True freshman should be a high school senior. Same with Richie Wesley. Defensive back or defense of the end. Excuse me. Also in there.

Hey, Rod, get your helmet on again. All right. All right. All right. From the comedian. Appreciate that guys. There we go. Here we go. Nick Piqui on defense from Rod Bayvers. I'm a gash just pretty well on the run. Brian, you mentioned something about that. What was your piece on that again? What were we talking about? Yeah, gash just on the run. They did. I mean, I think I think we're playing three and four man fronts. I mean, at the end of the day, I think that's what that's what it is. And when you look at it, linebackers were playing pretty deep quite a bit. I just don't think. I think what like Broad said, I think that is the best way to put it is we were extremely vanilla. If I had to guess knowing what must champ has done in the past and knowing throughout the years of me playing football. I'm going to work. If I had to guess next week, you're going to see a lot of first down blitzes.

You're going to try to get Ohio State behind the chains, right? I don't think you were going to see that this week. I think this week, they had they had the feeling that if they played their base defense, they could be successful enough to go out win the game, you know, and not show anything. I think next week and it would not surprise me if it was play one. Yeah, I think you're going to see a seven man blitz. I think they're going to heat it up. They're going to bring it because you're trying to get Ohio State behind the chains. And if you can get them behind the chains on first and second down and be able to give a give your defensive line and Colin Simmons an opportunity to really pin their ears back on a third and long situation and be able to, you know, really rush. Let's just say they rush four rush five and drop, you know, seven guys in the coverage for, you know, Jeremiah Smith and those receivers they have over there, that gives you the formula to win. That gives you the formula to get off the field, give your offense, great field position and play a game against the number one Ohio State coming in

here. So I think that's what you're going to see next week. I'll say this. Can I just say this? I've said, I think the much champ defense is basically going to be built on takeaways and takeaways and negative plays. And that does not mean you're not going to give up some things because it is a defense where he is essentially gambling on a lot of downs. You, you, you, you, if you run blitzing on early downs, you're gambling. As you go and end up making a plan to backfill or disrupting the entire blocking concept and destroying the entire blocking concept, right? So there is some gambling going on. And I think what it starts to say was the aggression, aggressive, but not reckless. Right? That's that's you talking about, you know, making educated guesses, all right? And in gambling, but doing it with a lot of, you know, preparedness and game planning. And that's what you're doing with the much. And he's going to give up some. So yes, there was, I mean, you probably gave up, I don't know, five or six explosive runs in this game or 10 plus short runs, probably more.

I just, I remember like five or six of them from different backs and just from bad Jackson. But yeah, I think that's because you've vanilla and I think that don't happen in your house, they gave so don't be like, oh, man, they gave it, but Chuck Yard is run versus how I was saying, it's going to happen. But you also get some, to negative place and get them behind the chains, get them second and long and third and long. And that's also the purpose of the most champ scheme. And then you can doubt the pressure packages and then you can be opportunistic and make some plays on the football. So it all comes together. That's going to happen versus a house. They too don't get it twisted. They go and make some plays and get some chunk yards in the room. They will. All right. Scooter Lannister says this super chat is for B Rob's gorgeous beard. It deserves its own letter grade from the group. Hey, plus, a plus. He's getting compliments in the chat. That's not the, I saw another one say he looks good for his age or he looks younger every year. Yeah, he's getting a lot like, hey, what have you doing? Is what Brad, what are you killing it, bro?

You killed. Hey, I don't know. Why chocolate, baby? That's all I know. Here we go. This is one that I know got two defensive players on their feet. You guys remember that Kobe Black. He hit this one from maybe a dust. Thanks. Yeah, that, that it was completely legal too. That it looked illegal in the moment, right? You're like, oh, he's gone. And then you go back and rewatch it and it was clean. I mean, he popped the, you know what out of it? Yeah. No. And that was a question with Kobe Black, right? Could you, do you have the physicality element from the safety position? You know, he can cover, you know, he's an asset in coverage. But can he be an asset against the run? And can he bring that physical element that's a non-negotiable in the much champ scheme as a defensive back? Cause that's what people were trying to test when you're D.V.

Are they going to be physical in the running game? So we haven't seen him being alley cat. I got to go watch the film, but they trust him because he started the game. Kobe's a man. It's called it. It's called me mean. So they, I think that means that much have emphasizing coverage. And Derek Williams, even though I think he's a good player versus the run. He had proved last year that he could be potentially a liability in coverage. And Jonah Williams is elite prospect skill wise, but he didn't have the experience. And then there's the issue about durability, not going to. But I think ultimately they really like what Kobe Black brings it to. But he must have satisfied or at least answered any questions about physicality in camp for them to give them that start like that. To your point, Rod, the safety off visit, Jaladi MacDonald was the question mark all training camp. Yeah, that's who's going to be it. Derek Williams entered as the leader. He started that place at the beginning of August.

Kobe Black must have overtake him late in training camp. He did get the start today. That's one of the things we followed also Trevor Goosby played more than I expected. Played almost the entire game with the ones was there Dylan Sikorski played at left guard over Lawrence Seymour, but Lawrence Seymour played a lot, especially in the second half. So those are the some of the positional battles we were looking forward to. All right. Being says Hollywood is a good back. Kobe likes to hit. Dgeford is extra large. I would say he's six X probably. He look. He looked like Brian Robeson. I'm just telling you now. Brow Miles was his advertised Colin plays efficiently. Now look like a guy in the yard playing with his nephews. Is this you'll play don't really good football teams. Just give me the eye test on this Texas football team.

What do you think when it gets off the bus Brian? I think I think they're national championship contending football team. I mean, at the end of the day, when you look at when you just look at their roster and you look at them on the field and you take them for what they are. At the DB, they all look long. They all long. I was like tall can run. You know, when you look at DB, which is like I said, that's been the question. But even I mean, not DB linebacker, when you look at it, I mean, but they, they're athletic like the linebackers are athletic. They look like some college runner backs runner round at the linebackers. They really do deep. It's a line they're big. I mean, they're big. And then you got Colin Simmons who's just an absolute freak, right? And then you look at the offensive side of the ball. I mean, I don't even need to say anything there. You know, they've been hyped up all off season anyway, but you bring the missing

pieces in and you just look at what they are just from the eye test. And yeah, I mean, they look every bit of the part. Now the question as we start getting into some of these bigger games is, can they play together? That's going to be the issue and that's going to be the question. I think a lot of that is going to get answered next week. And when I say play together, I don't mean just the players. I mean, do the players can they apply what they're able to do athletically to what the coaches are bringing to the tape? Because so if you've ever furnished a restaurant hotel or an office, you know the drill five vendors, five invoices, five delivery windows, but there's a better way to do this. You ride you know as well as I do, man. The teams that win national championships, the teams that make it far in the playoffs, it ain't just about the players. It's not about the talent level. It's about does the coaching staff, does the front office, does the players are they a cohesive group? And if you get that and you get things clicking on all cylinders, that's one thing I'll say us in in O5, everything was clicking man. It didn't matter who you talked to where they were on the sidelines, where they want to feel, where they were starter of backup. We were on the same damn page with each other and we knew what we needed to do.

We knew what our role was. We knew where we needed to pick up the slack and where we needed to to to pull our selfish desires away. And that is going to be the big deal with this football team is you've got a lot of egos and I'm not saying that in a bad way, but you've got some guys that deserve to have the egos on this football team. The question is going to be when things get tough, can you, can you keep your ego out of it? Can you pick up the next guy? Can that guy alleviate some of the stress that's on a camp Coleman? Can an amendment mostly pick up the stress? Can a Ryan Wingo pick up a stretch? Because then it opens things back up for camp Coleman. So that's where I'm going with this is next week when you play a tough opponent. Are you going to crumble or are you going to rise to the occasion? Are you going to not be selfish because you're not getting the ball and just keep driving, keep getting after it until your opportunity comes. And that's what I want to see out of this football team because when you start talking names, you start talking to I test.

I mean, there's a reason why there's a lot of hype around this football team. And it's not just guessing to me like there was last year, there was a lot of guessing. This year, I think there's a lot of people waiting to see what happens next week because I think if they go when they beat Ohio State, there's going to be a lot of people that are going to be like, yeah, this team's for real. Now they've got a gauntlet ahead of them. Let's let's not get that. Let's not forget that. They've got a gauntlet ahead of them. But if you can play in Ohio State team next week that I think just over the past few years, they don't fail. They're the most consistent team in college football right now. Yes. And so it's not like you're going to beat a battle Ohio State football team. They're going to be a very good football team at the end of the year, no matter how you look at it. So I think if they can get the dub next week and they play the way that I think they're going to play, I think there's going to be a lot of people that are going to look at this and can be like, man, it's teams for real.

And I'm going to stop my babbling now. Bad. That's not bad. It's not bad. And I'll tell you why it's not bad. I mean, because Sark has said over and over. This is actually goes back two or three years now. He said, and I'm going to screw up. So I'll just kind of paraphrase, right? If we we try team goals, the individual goals will come. Right? When team goal wants to be able to get our team goals, y'all, your individual goals, they'll happen almost naturally organically. And these guys and now say that when you talk to me, ask, you know, Colin Simmons and Ryan Wingo and Trevor Goofy, ask the leaders on the team about, hey, what do you want to accomplish? They all go back to that. Like, now when we, we got to get our team goals and then I'll get my individual stuff. So that's got to be separate. It's got to be secondary to his point about being unselfish. I was talking to Casey Hampton, right? Legendary, like I'm a great one, the greatest players in history of Texas football and a great player in the NFL. And he told, he told us that when he was with the Pittsburgh dealers that,

you know, he led, he led Texan tackling, like led the, the defense in tackling two years in a row. And from the defense, a tackle position, by the way, which is rare. It just don't happen in football, Brian. I wish you could tell people how rare that is. And by the way, our defense was good. Who's the lead? Who's a damn good defense? But he was just that damn good, okay? And he went to the stilts and they told them they wanted to play knows tackle instead of him playing through the three technique. And he said, base, you ain't going to make a lot of plays. But you will be one of the key figures in our success. We just go need you to take on a lot of double teams and be the whole point. And you ain't going to make a lot of plays like you did at Texas. You ain't going to lead the team in tackling. But, you know, you'll, you'll be one of our silent MVP's behind the scenes, guys who know ball. And Casey was like, let's do it. And then one superbows and became, he's on the all time, stillers team, everything else to his fun about being unselfish. Casey had to lead Texas in tackles two years in a row. Do you know what he could have done at the NFL level?

He could have been a freak like at the detack position. But he didn't choose to leave the stillers and like go for some phases so he can have a pad the statue like, no, you know, I'm good. I know my role here. I'll fill my role. I'll do my damn job. And then I'll make everybody else better around me. When you get guys like that all the time, great players who wouldn't be that unselfish, then you own the sum and you own the sum. Fisher has a ring as well, which is the ultimate goal for all of us. I had to play in the game. Now was it? Yeah. Absolutely. This one from Texas Franks. Can we get Bobby to do one of Relic Brown's TD celebration dances after every win on post game shows? So I will want to say this. Rod and Brian are definitely the dancers of the group. But I'll do. I don't know. I'll do like that. And then I can't hit the fake hammy though. Bobby. Look at Brian. Can you do the hammy Brian?

Can you do the fake hammy? Go do it. Literally Jerry Hamilton on the watch with us like, oh, oh, there it is. That's a damn. On the watch with those Jerry Hamilton literally got faked out. He goes, oh, no, he popped his hammy. Jerry. Hey, I got a quick story about that. So Dalvin Cook did that in Minnesota. My man grabbed his hamstring. This was after I retired, but I was watching the game. Brad is hamstring went down on all fours and I'm thinking, oh my gosh, bro, he don't he don't he don't tore his hamstring. And then my man went to do it. I was like, oh, man, they can't do. They can't do that no more. They can't do that. Got him coach. Got him. Got him. Be a Rob. This is for you also. I have your Roseville jersey from the Michigan game.

Man, if my son and I run into you next weekend, would you be willing to sign it? Great first game by the horns hook him. Man, Brian, why don't you have your Roseville jersey? I guess you probably kept the, did you keep the USC game jersey at least? I definitely got the USC that was framed up. I got you. It's framed up. Yeah. You signed it to yourself. I sold it on eBay to myself too. That's free in NIL days, by the way. Yeah. For real. I love it. All right. If I'm around, I will definitely sign that if I'm around. I'm hoping I'll be around next week, but I don't know. Brian, your kiddos still played football this year? My kiddos playing school ball this year. Oh, they had their, they had their first scrimmage last week.

They got him it, they got him it swing man, which is kind of in their wing T slot T office. It's kind of like a, a wide receiver and tied in tight deal. So my man was drive blocking some cornerbacks. Now you hear me? Hey, my man said, my man said you put anybody. So Parker is tall, skinny, but he's like that sneaky, lanky where like, look at him. You're like, man, let's do like a DB and any grabs you and you're like, oh, he's thrown. Yeah. Yeah. Well, my man, I grabbed a couple of DBS last week and was driving him through the back of the end zone, right? But he got out there and played, they, they, they, they run him through all three linebacker positions. They set him at, at wheel linebacker this past week. Okay. My man had to hit it a game at the end of the game now. And coming down here, I have to send y'all the videos. They, it was just a scrimmage, but they got their first game on Tuesday. So I'm ready for it.

Well, run the footage on, on, on coffee and football, Brian. So send it in. I need to run that footage. A frost sun. I mean, a fuzzy sun, frost. Hey, boy, running all over the field. Now, a fuzzy symptom. You send me that footage, actually, man. Yeah. He's the clean. He like, he like pops out there. Yeah. Love it. I, uh, we've got some post game comments from Steve Sirkiesian. Before we get to those, I want to remind folks that one of our big sponsors this year is prize picks. We're always looking for ways to make watching games a little more fun. Blakeman Rowe told me that he had a little fun today. That's why he loves prize picks. It's America's number one sports pick app. And honestly, it's about as simple as it gets for player picks. All you do is choose one or more players or on a few players stats and lock in your lineup. That's it. And if you're someone who likes picking teams instead of individual players, prize picks as you cover there too, you can now pick the winner, the spread or the total on games and even fights. Price, price fix is available in most states, including Texas, California and Florida.

So no, so chances are you can just jump in and play. And one of my favorite features is that you can now follow users on the app. If you like the picks, they're making you can tell them with just one click. Now here's the best part. If you've never tried prize picks, play your first $5 lineup. And if you win, you'll get $150 in bonus lineups. Just make sure you use code HMA when you sign up. They actually just updated this offer. So there's never been a better time to get started. Download the price picks app today, use code HMA, play that first $5 line. And if you win, you'll get $150 in bonus lineups. That's price picks code HMA. Good luck. And as always, play smart, play responsibly, play price picks. All right. Here is Steve Sirkishan. All right. You know, I think from a game perspective and star of a season, I don't know. It could have kind of went better with the start of the game. You know, it's like you go on a defense, give a sock, give a ball.

It's an offense and you call it a rub it. You're a brace for 40 to start the game. And you know, really thought on this, Lee was really clean first half up until the last play, you know, we had a little bit in the end zone and sure we'll talk about that. But you guys have heard me say all along and we say it's up on our wall. It's been okay. For six years now. It's all down the ball. You think off, we create three turners. All GFES post two turnover on downs. You know, you place the 35 points of the game. And so that they talk about the staff and football that are already managed and most. That's the one that I thought we read a red job and that category today. I think we had three penalties. Yeah, that did the DPI on on Kate. So I really thought he's in pretty good position. If you work to get a look at the fill, we got a hold on in it. I think about how to leave a formation or something in there too. So maybe four penalties. I don't know. So it's tough in the second half. It would be clear up on.

I put a lot of players. I think the first half would weigh over 50 players in the first half of the game, which was, which was good. And you need to in under these conditions. And so again, another positive there. I thought some of the new faces that showed up. May want to punch out by Raheib Biles to call the turnover. Obviously, you know, can's impact on the game. You know, Hollywood's impact on a game. Relief rounds, horse two touchdowns. So that's just the name of few. So that a lot of the new faces showed up. But I think it was great that we got to play a lot of players, you know, because of the way the game went. And and through it all, we were perfect. And that's the beauty of it all. You know, we're going to where you'll look at this tape and there's going to be things where we can improve. And that's that's a really good thing. But just the fish to see on third down, the ability to create turnovers, the ability to turn to turnovers in the points. The idea that we got to play a lot of players. And and most notably, we got to put on a good show for our fans. I thought our fans showing up packed house to keep this thing on.

It was awesome. I appreciate their support. I know it was high out there. It was like 105 index. And I think the field was over 150 degrees. So not easy conditions. So I appreciate our fans being there for us to support this. This is sold out for the entire year, guys. And we were down on Bevo Boulevard before the game. It was elbow to elbow. A lot of folks out today, Sark mentions the audience are the crowd. They're going to need that next week. I just want to remind everybody that it'll be next week around seven o'clock when Texas kicks against Ohio State and no matter the heat. Hope everybody shows up. What did you think about Sark overall mentioning all those new names, Rodby? Whether it's Relic Brown, Hollywood, Smothers, Cam Coleman. They all brown two touchdowns, Coleman, two touchdowns, Hollywood, some others touchdown. Yeah, I think, let me last year I believe Texas has 17% of their starts.

We're by transfers. I haven't done the math, but I believe you probably close to 40 something percent of your starts will be by transfers this year. And they, you know, but immediate impact, right? You first hand off the Hollywood, some others. Cam Coleman with two touchdowns. Immediately impact the game where he miles with two forest fumble and interception. So those guys, I mean, there's a reason that Texas decided for the first time to be over aggressive in the transfer portal. And they wanted to go get difference makers, game changers in the transfer portal. And that's what they did. They went out game changers and literally first game of the season. You saw these guys make those kinds of plays. So I think ultimately, I don't know if this will be the path going forward. I do think Texas will have now a kind of baseline of acquisition. Just kind of the acquisitions they get via the portal. I think you'll just get a higher increase frequency of acquisitions in the portal from Texas from now on. Just just with positions where they're unsure like Brian said earlier,

there was a lot of guessing last season like, oh, you know, glass half full. Maybe this is going to happen. You were, they were basing things on optimism and hope and hope is not a strategy. And the portal is a strategy. So they went out and out of positions where they were, they would try to be optimistic and glass half full. They went out and got proven commodities. And I think that's what they're going to do going forward. If they don't have a proven commodity or at least proof of concept already at a position, they're going to go get it in a portal from now on during the stroke here. I think Brandon Harris, Chris Gilbert, those guys did a whale of a job in the portal. This office. I bet it's pretty apparent. Those are going to be some explosive playmakers for the long horns this season. If not, focal points. Yeah. And I want to add something to that. You know, I don't want us to forget the point that I think, I think Sarkin, that staff does just as good a job. If not as good a job as anybody in the country of having a great balance of transfer portal guys, but guys, they have to felt there's a lot of teams out

there that it's transfer portal or nothing. Yeah. And I think Sark has done a, when you look at just the starters in general, I think there is a very good mix of guys that are, guys that they've had that are continuing on with this photo. You know, you just look at just a few names out there. You know, we just, we just said, you know, brown and smothers and cam Coleman, but you can sit there and you can say, Goosby, Archmaning and Wingo. You can match it, you know. And I think that is something to be said because I do think with the day and age we are at with college football and the transfer portal being such a big part of teams building their rosters. I think Sarkin and have done an amazing job of still going out and getting some high caliber guys at a high school that they can tell it be a part of their program for years and be big time pieces going into it. I think where they've done a great job with the transfer portal is when they

lose a guy, they find a guy to replace that guy. Yeah. You know, when you look at it, I'm just going to say, trade wise, trade wise, and your transfer is out. And what do they do? They say, OK, we've got to get a better running game. We've got to, we've got to have multiple backs. Let's go get smothers. Let's go get a relief Brown and then hey on top of that, we're going to go get the number one running back in the country and high school too. Right. So to me, that's where Sarkin and them have been a little bit different in my mind is, is they're not looking at this as a one dimensional game. They're looking at it from two or three different ways. Yeah, no doubt. I want to say this too, as it relates to Texas in the portal, they're not going to live there, but they're definitely going to address it if it needs to be addressed. And that's that's how they're very bottom line oriented. If it if they're not there, they got to go there. That's fine.

They don't necessarily want to live there. But man, if that's what it takes to win, Steve Sarkiesia knows this is a bottom line business. All right. Hey, let's talk now or let's listen now to archmaning in the post game as well. So we got a lot of guys involved. Seems like we got a lot of playmakers. You can kind of do everything. There's a rough drive sport half roots that was on beam. Other than that, I was a good first outing. I'm sitting a lot of room to improve, but was was pleased with you guys. That's Raheem Biles right next to him. Let's listen to him. Then we'll comment on both guys. Punch. It's really just a telephone type of tackle, telephone booth, me and Hill and Mark kosher. He's been emphasizing it all week. We got to start punching at the bowl. We got to get some punch out. Phone line man. It's me and him. Let me just see what I could do. Punch started in the I personally know is shame out. And then I kind of like I was like, because I always had to end up like when at the end of a tag ball, he's trying to like eat the ball. I just do like you know me. But I ain't feel it. I like turn around here by running on my wall.

You were. Yeah, but two turnovers. That was just as big, you know, which is preparation for real for real. Because other one was a screen that I see 11 is like they are. They're God. They're from the game. The ball is running like some fake action. Yeah, I feel come back on the jailbreak. So I just see him standing there. Something's up. It was God too. Walking right through. He's. I love it. Something's up like that in his first. I take some confidence. First game. Brian, you ever wear a hat like that up in Minnesota? No, I have never worn a hat like that. And I mean, my man had a chain for every tackle he made in the game. Two about that. Hey, I like it. If you're going to do it, do it big, right? Name is. You played you in the rod, played a lot of defense. That punch out that he talked about the coaches really preaching to him. Texas had three turnovers this today.

One of them by an interception by Rahim Biles. Another one a punch out by Rahim Biles at Grayson, Littleton took back to the house and then kind of a hidden play. Was Maraud Watson. He also in a fumble on a sack fumble kind of against against them against the bobcats. I thought that was a good play. Turnovers going to have to be a thing for Will Must-Champ. That seems to be something that Rod B says, Rod, are Brian. Yeah, you think this is going to be this kind of team for Must-Champ? I think when you look at Must-Champ's defense in the past, it's always been predicated off turnovers. I think it's kind of like what Rod said. It's about negative plays and it's about impact plays. That's what Must-Champ wants. He wants turnovers. He wants negative plays, tackles for loss sacks. It's basically about creating havoc on another team's offense. So I do. I think when you're talking about flying around getting interceptions, flying around

getting balls popped out of the offense, things like that. I think you saw a little taste of it today. I think it's going to be a huge emphasis this week because not only from an aspect of turnovers for scores, but turnovers for field position. Not that you want to create a turnover and just play field position. You obviously want to score off turnovers. But when you look at it, even if your offense isn't able to drive the ball, they punt the ball. They get it in your territory where you have them backed up. That's how you win ball games. That's how you win big time ball games is by playing the field position battle. Turnovers, if you can always win the turnover battle, Rod knows this. This is like day one, defense 101. Every defensive coach will tell you, you win the turnover battle. You'll win the game. And that happens probably 95% of the time. Take all other stats, throw them out the window.

If you can win the turnover battle, you'll win the game. And I think that is, that is going to be huge because I think whether you look at what must champ has done within the last five years or what he's done in the last 25 years, turnover says it's been a huge part of his success. All right. Let's go through some other things again. If you have phone calls and want to get in is 512 766 8491. That's 512 766 8491. And question here guys, our D line in general felt underwhelming. It looked like they struggled to get off blocks, but Biles is definitely him. Did you all think the defense had struggled? I didn't really think that. I felt like that. Andrew Farr made a play in the back field here at canoe on the goal line early, made a couple of plays. Did you all think they struggled to get off blocks? Or is that kind of that zone blocking interior run game that these sites of art trials, offenses are predicated on?

Because I feel like they do a lot of zone blocking. It's if you're in a gap, they're blocking you. It's not necessarily one of those things that you get off of the block as much as they're just trying to create a wall on the interior. I think once again, it just goes back to being very vanilla. I think they were just very vanilla front. I think there was probably a lot of plays that under normal circumstances. Let's just put it this way. I think if this game was played, they made it as a group and Texas made it into playoffs and they were playing each other. I think this is a totally different scheme defense against this quarantine. I think with the first game of the year, you're trying to see what you have from a base perspective. So you know what you need to do and things you need to correct going into next week, right? Because if you're able to play in your base defense and have success, that makes everything else so much easier. And if you can correct those deals on week one, then that makes things so much easier

going into week two, especially against the Ohio State because you know where you've got to cover up for the areas that have been exposed, right? So I think you see a little bit of two things here. I think Texas State's offense and what they do, they do keep the defenses off balance. And I think the other part of that is, and probably the bigger part of that is, it's just being a very vanilla defense today. I want to show too much for next week, but also just trying to see where we fit from a base defense standpoint and how we can line up basic formations, how we react to it, how our alignments are. Are we getting all that under wraps to where we can move forward next week and add a lot more to the playbook? All right. Before we go to our last several questions here, I want to say thank you again to our sponsor. Flight is the next generation of light beer with only 95 calories. It's an easy drinking upscale light beer designed to elevate your taste buds with just 2.6 carbs per serving.

Flight's an easy to drink beer with a clean crisp taste, try flight from England. Thanks to the fine folks at flight and our friends at Frouist distributing cheers, guys. We're going to win number one Texas beats, the Texas State Bobcats, 59 to 7. We're here on the post-game show on Texas football. A couple other questions here. This one from Cheetah. My favorite memory of the championship game is Robuson after the fourth and one stop in the middle of the screen with the big flex. He just re-enacted it there for the rest of his own. Nice stuff, right? This one from Justin Yarbrough, liked what I saw today. I just wish we would have stuck to the zone runs a little longer, but for a vanilla game plan, not much to complain about, arch again, 20 of 27 for 305 yards, four touchdowns in one interception. Texas scored on nine of 10 possessions. Pretty strong output for a team that last year struggled to get started on offense earlier.

Remember one of things Arch said earlier this week in the press availability is that he wanted the longhorns to start quicker this season. Mission accomplished in that one. This one from Juan Garza, congrats to CJ Baxter, the transfer to Kentucky former longhorn. He had two touchdowns today, good for CJ. That's always good to see in my opinion. And I'm happy that people are wishing him well elsewhere. I'm serious. I'm serious. We need more good sportsmanship like that because a lot of these guys, no offense to CJ or anybody, he just wasn't going to be coming back to Texas at the same pay scale necessarily that he would have otherwise. So I think it's great that people still root guys like that on because he gave everything he had to the University of Texas and while he was on campus. This one from MA does things. If I had to give an NFL comp to the current longhorn team and situation, I would have to say it would be the green Bay Packers, same coach style, goals, et cetera, both looking

to make a deep run into the playoffs. Rod, you follow a profile a little bit. What do you think of that? It's interesting. He says that because I have said for the last few years, actually, MA does things that schematically, if you look at the office in the NFL, that Matt LaFlor offense is one of the offices very, very similar. Like in terms of the system, terms of philosophy, personnel groupings to the Sark office. It's our PO usage, play action pass usage. So as crazy bring up the green Bay Packers, I do think stylistically and philosophically, offensively, they are very similar in my opinion. And also from that, make Shanahan tree, right? That's a lot of those office who are trying to be from that make Shanahan tree have those similarities. All right, guys, this is the, we're breaking new ground here. Let's do it. Oh, here we go. This is going to be our first ever call in. I know. Now cross your fingers, Brian and Rod and maybe close your ears at the start here.

Not getting Matt or producer's as actually fielded this call. This comes from Loba bread. Let's hear the question or comment. What's up, guys? It's Loba bread calling in from Hondo. I was just calling with a couple thoughts. First of all, Kobe Black, Kobe Black, absolutely destroyed Chris Down Jr. on that hospital ball. But other than that, I really thought that the run game didn't look as good as I expected it to, was hoping to see more from the offensive line, especially the third quarter, just because like when you got to go and get a first down in a late game situation, the other team knows as you're running the ball. I didn't see that today. But other than that, that was a pretty good performance. But yeah, hook them. Brody. You're the D.V. You comment on Kobe Black and then we'll talk a little bit about that run game again.

First let me comment on my man Matthew, hooking up the voice mail, man. That's a beautiful thing. I used to work in radio. So I actually have to do college shows back to the day. And I love the call in style. You probably will get canceled these days. You're going to do stuff like that. And I'm glad we found a way to let the people have a voice here at Oaxxas football because it's all about the people. And the show the platform is below, so shout out to my man Matthew, he's a real MVP. But off the run game, yeah, I agree. This is my point about the run game. And I don't know if Sarcus had this since B. John and Rojo where you can pretty much run anything in the run game. The entire run game playbook is open to you. You can run whatever you want to. And almost there was Sarcus running on third law with B. John. You remember that? You were like, you were like third and seventh. He would hand it off to B. John because he knew if B. John gets five on third and seventh, fourth and two, I'm giving it to Rojo up B. John.

And we're going to get the first down. So there's a certain confidence that he had back then because of the caliber backs. And you don't have that now. Now what he can do in the run game is dial up like he did in 2024 and 2023. It's supposed to play in a run game. Now where you have the consistency in the run game and where you have the kind of the bully ball mentality to be able to run a ball whenever you want to and whenever you need to. Right? Short yard is goal line in the red zone when the field shrinks. Can you run the ball when somebody takes away your bread and butter and take away the outside zone? Can you still be able to run the football? We like, you know what? We'll need outside zone today. We're going to go counter. We're going to go do row. We're going to go power. There it is. Like can you do that? Because you couldn't do that even in 2024. You could when it's going outside zone, you had nothing, nothing. So that to me is the question this year. Do you have multiple concepts you can hang your head on in the run game where you make it almost impossible for a team to take away your entire run game altogether, which they've

been able to do that to start post beach on a road show in the past. So I agree with that point a little bit about the run game. You want it more. You want that essentially. This one says, Kay Black from yes, so he sucks. Kay Black needs water boy on his jersey. He colored a hospital ball. Brian, you like that comment? Hey, listen, listen, that is the perfect name for it because my man, who? Hey, my man, Kobe was like that shark that smelled a drop of blood and the water was coming from a half mile away. Like he saw the ball and was like, oh no, and no quid football. But you know, God, who's going to love that in film study? Must champ. Oh, yeah, must champs going to be celebrating that hit in film study. What they do as a team. Oh, man. All right, we got another call coming again. That number is 512 766 8491. Again, 512 766 8491.

Brian and Rod, I want to take a real quick look before we let folks go to on a stat for you guys because one of the things that we looked at were hidden plays or I like to look at, I mentioned that Maraud Watson. I caused football. I thought that was a little bit of a hidden play. Not many people mentioned it. It gave Texas that spark. What do you call it? The Sark. Surge. What are you talking about? The Sark run. Sark run. 21.3 quarter run. They scored the touchdown on the first drive. Then Watson caused the FOMO. Got another touchdown and it was a 21 point run and that game was over. Yeah. So Maraud Watson. But one of the things that actually a friend of mine and you guys may remember him, Royale Allegrae, the former kicker of the University of Texas. Texas B. He goes, look at the third down conversions today for Texan 11 of 15. That'll play 11 of 15's pretty strong.

And you average third long essentially. It's just that you average distance to go is 6.7 yards. Guys, that's seven yards. That third and seven is considered third and long. Yeah. That's that's wild. But that's the point about the run game that that that that that that that caller was making, right? That a lower barrel is making you supposed to head into change. You shouldn't you shouldn't be in third. You should average distance to go shouldn't be seven yards. It should be more like five yards if you were a Texas team. So you know, again, because against Ohio State, Ohio State is going to be celebrating if you were in third seven on average distance to go. Yeah, I mean, we ready for that call that quite yet. Brian, you agree with that nine for all are the 11 for 15 in the 6.7 yards to go. Does that bother you? Because frankly, I mean, Sark went for the throw on some three rounds. I mean, through deep to Wingo on one through on a fourth and one deep to Wingo. He has some confidence in arch downfield. I think if you had Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo, you go for throat too.

Yes. I mean, let's just be honest here. And you wonder why he did it. Average third. Now this is go with 6.7 average yards game per attempt. 12.6. There you go. I mean, it's, you know, now what ride set is absolutely true. You don't want to be in that situation on third down. And I've said that for years now without that is one of the first stats that I'll look at is what was what was your yards for a attempt on first down? And it what is your third down and distance to go? That'll be a tell tell sign with a lot of things on their success this year. Because like you said, if they're in third and 6 to 7, to me, that tells me two things. All right, either you're not getting the yardage you need to on first down and you're behind the chains now or you're getting minimal yardage or you're causing yourself penalties. That's the only other thing that puts you in those situations. So to me, when I look at it, it's exactly what rides it like you got to get the run game

going. Like don't get me wrong. I thought they did a decent job today of really making that an emphasis and getting some of those, especially first play out the gate. Like let's set the tone. Let's get it going, right? But I do think when you start getting into this SEC schedule, that run game is going to become even more and more important because that was the difference between 24 and 25, at least in 24 when it became third and fourth quarter and you needed to make some plays, you knew Texas was coming downhill. Yeah. And they were bringing it and you look at late games in the year, that's how they were able to win those ball games is they just bullied people around. Now what Rod said earlier is absolutely true. They had to either be able to run it down because a lot of teams were stopped at that outside zone. Like if we didn't run down the meat of the middle and got stopped, they didn't have anything.

But they were able to bully people up front and get three to five yards every time they touched the ball. And if you can do that, it's first down on three runs. So I think they got to do a better job on first down. I think they got to keep working on this run game to keep it going. But man, with Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo out there, you have two legit number one threats in my opinion. And then you add Emmett Mosley to the mix and it goes back to what Rod said earlier. I think this offense is going to be even more successful when they start doing things out of 11 personnel. Because now you've got three legit guys back there. And then what do you do? You can't double Cam. You can't double Wingo. You can't, you got to double both those guys and leave Emmett Mosley sitting out there. Oh, that's right. You got Hollywood smothers and Relic Bam and the backfield that can leak out the backfield as well. I put them one on one on running back. Like it doesn't work that way.

If you can get the run game going on first down and put yourself in third sound situations, you keep a defense off balance. But even on third and sixth to seventh, as you saw today, and I'll tell you a sneaky play today that I guarantee you a Ohio State is going to try to defend all week. That little play where they snuck the running back and the tight and towns and I think out of the backfield and had towns that lead block with a little flare screen too. I think it was Relic Brown or was it smothers. I don't know. It was Relic Brown, I think. Yeah. Dude, I like that little play. Yeah. Yeah. And then they built off for it right because that's the, was it a fourth, the, the, the, the Wonder Wingo down to feel the fourth down conversion? Yup. It's the same play design. Yup. He fakes it to Relic Brown on that swing screen and then they do the stock block and go and then the ring go wide open down the field because that, that safety bit on it thought it was going to be easily that swing screen. So, so I can do some good sequence in two with the offense, but I also like that call

another like hidden play. The wing pitch left wing left with the out of a bunch personnel for Relic Brown. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of inverted the, um, up back. I thought that was an interesting play kind of hidden in there because that was a third down touchdown as well. Can we pull up the stats, the first down stats like first down and what they, the yard as they had on first downs? Matt, do we have, let me ask her a good question, Brian. Do we have the stats for what Texas did on first down today? Yeah. Yeah, he'll get it and say, let's go to it. Brian will keep, we'll get that and then we'll go right now to the phone line again. Yeah. Let's listen to this one. Here we go. Rodby. Yeah. Let's have it. Dan. It was.

Yeah. Anybody got him tomorrow tomorrow to start this vide activity job crude ride goes. I love it. Good wolf. Got. I mean, burgers tonight. I hope y'all are hungry. D shout. Love y'all. Bye. all it in. Get that number five one two seven six six eight four nine. We'll be taking those all week. Brian, do we have that stat yet Matt? We still doing it. Here it is. First down place 30 of them. Brian, uh, Tote yards one 78. So they average five point nine on first down. That's not bad at all. No, that's not bad at all. So then it has to be either second downs. I mean, the second downs seem to be the issue. Yeah, I mean, because that's not, I mean, if your average of five years almost, well, might as well say six yards up. Yeah. You know, Brian Irwin, one of the coaches that's on us, on with us

on Monday, always says it's about first down efficiency. So if you hit one for 20 yards, and then the next one's for zero yet says the averages 10, but you're not being efficient both times. Right. Right. And so that's maybe it's a little bit of that. That's okay. Maybe it's a little bit of that. Yeah. All right. Hey, guys, this has been awesome. Y'all are awesome.
