I've been a fan of all my life today.

We are discussing whether or not the Giants are trying to pretend

like Wednesday night didn't happen.

Is there too much on Logan Web shoulders?

So I've been seeing something floating around here and I thought it

was pretty fascinating and it all started because the Giants

posted a graphic and the graphic said Robbie Ray opening day

starter which everyone kind of raised their eyebrow a little bit

because the Giants already had opening night now the way

everything went down with Netflix and the hot dogs and the

break dancers on top of the dugouts and James Winston and

everything that was going on and the thing from Wednesday

everything that was going on clearly the kayaks in in the bay

everything that was going on was completely different than a normal game.

So if you've been listening to me and watching me for a while

you probably think you know what I'm going to say

for the Giants to pretend like Wednesday didn't happen

is absolutely ridiculous because we all watch them

get their butts whooped seven to nothing by the Yankees

and put up three measly hits with some lackluster defense

and a bad start from Logan Webb. We all watch that we did

but I'm here to tell you if I were the Giants I'd do the exact same thing

I would do the exact same thing because Wednesday was so

out of the norm so ridiculous so much of a one-off

that I think you can kind of get away with it. Now obviously

everything counts right the the score counts the record counts

all of that counts but I look at it a little bit like when they were doing

the overseas beginning of the season right where a couple teams would go

overseas and they would play games before opening day those games

counted but it just felt different right I wouldn't say off

but just different it was a different vibe

and I think it's the same thing with the Netflix night now is this

a level of cope and copium oh absolutely a hundred percent don't get me wrong

but if I'm the Giants that's exactly what I'm saying and doing

because it was so out of the box and so ridiculous that you could say hey

now even the time that it started to be fair I know it's the first game of the

season but even that five o'clock start now they can say hey

we can get back to basics and they might lose today don't get me wrong

but we can get back to basics we can get back on a normal schedule

and do things the way we typically do them but we know it's a long season

so you're gonna flush this game anyway so why don't you take it to the very next

level and completely flush it call Robbie Ray the opening day starter

and see if you can just move on and say hey guys we know it was a tough go

let's look at that like the teams that go overseas a couple weeks

before the season starts but it still counts for their record and it's

not really opening day because it's just them over there and the other teams

haven't played yet let's just look at it like that and go from there

so I don't necessarily mind it a lot of people were having some fun

with the Giants when they posted the Robbie Ray graphic our opening day

starter now I don't know if the Yankees are doing that or not because the Yankees

that won so no no no we already had our opening day and it was great or our

opening night and it was great but literally the way it was branded

was Netflix opening night we heard Anthony Rizzo say it about 10 times

Netflix opening night so if I'm the Giants if I'm Tony Vitelo if I'm that

coaching staff hey a counted we were gonna have to flush it anyway

let's just completely forget that it happened right it was such a one-off

let's just completely forget that it happened we can really start our season

what the one o'clock start a normal day game opening day how baseball was supposed

to be played how the season is supposed to be kicked off thank you to major league

baseball and thank you to Netflix for seeing us as a brand big enough to pull off

the Netflix opening night but now we get to do our thing

crew can kite the whole crew now we get to do our thing NBC sports Bay Area the whole

Shabangabang we get to do what we want to do our way maybe that can help

the Giants have a clean slate moving forward it still counts as they lost and if the Giants

missed a playoffs by one game we would all look back at that game not that it was closed

say well Alan remember when you say that game didn't count turns out that it really really did

but I'm just saying from a mental perspective from the mental aspect to just say hey we are moving

on from this game it really wasn't us it's not how we get down it's not how we do things

then you got Tony Vitelo so he doesn't even know how things typically work anyway then you throw

him into this Netflix situation he's got all these different interviews to do MLB network is

that they're all there but it's just completely different situation than what they will typically

see look they could go out and lose today and I wouldn't have any excuses and I'm not using

as an excuse I'm just saying if I were the Giants I would do the same thing do I think it's a

bit ridiculous yeah little because we watched it happen but if I were the Giants I think I'd probably

do the same thing and I understand why they would go in that direction the direction that the

Giants have to go in is Logan Webb because he is their ace but is there too much on Logan Webb

a lot of conversation after the game that did happen but the giants are pretending that it didn't

and Logan web has been a big topic in that conversation by the way you didn't think we were

going to get away from this Logan web didn't have a great start and Paul schemes didn't have a great

start so there are some people out there blaming the world baseball classic now I'm not necessarily

doing that but I am interested to see how Logan web looks in the next start along with Paul

schemes so I I know Paul schemes was dealing with some some risky or some sketchy defense out

there for the pirates so you know maybe it isn't as black and white as we think I'd like to see

Logan web of course in his next start and moving forward before saying anything about the world

baseball classic and taric school ball pitched really well but surprise surprise taric school

ball is also the best picture in baseball right or one of if not the best picture in baseball so

and he didn't go to the world baseball classics so people are going back and forth with that we'll

just pocket that put that in our back pocket for when Logan web has his next start but you know

Logan web the way he spoke after after the game just saying how everything was on him and somebody

brought up well you struck out Aaron judge a couple times and I don't care you know it was all on

me the wheels fell off and didn't really give the team a chance and I thought about something even though

you know the giants have Robbie Ray and and Landon Roup and they got some guys obviously behind

Logan web when you look at Logan web compared to some of the other are the giants of contender not

I don't I don't know we're going to figure that out but if we threw them in the contender pile with

however many other teams and you look at the other starting rotations sure there are some question

marks out there like we were talking with Harvey and the Padres there are a lot of question marks

with some pitching rotations but there are a lot of pitching rotations where you know oh man

didn't have it didn't have it today but my guys got my back tomorrow whatever it is but you

combine the lack of run support that the giants have provided with Logan web with the kind of

hit or miss nature of somebody like Robbie Ray the unknown nature of a guy like Landon Roup he's

looked good when he's pissed he dealt with that injury in the at the end of last season so we don't

have as much to depend on at least on paper as some of these other teams that are contending and I

think Logan web sees that and part of that is Logan web being a bulldog and part of that is Logan

web just knowing that he is the leader of this team and him wanting to be the leader of this team

but just buy the book and buy the numbers is there too much on Logan web shoulders and the initial

thought I would say is yes that there's a lot more on Logan web shoulders than obviously anybody

on the on the Dodgers right oh well we got four more aces so it doesn't matter than anybody on

the what the Phillies or the Mets or all these big spending nationally teams so my initial thought

is yes there is too much on Logan web but when you look at Logan web I don't necessarily know

that Logan web has to win a side young for this team to make the playoffs right he's got to be

close but that's who Logan web has been so as I initially feel like there's a lot on Logan web

shoulders I take a step back and I think to myself that's just how this team is designed and when

we were talking to hobby from Lockdown podress he said your team is built that if everybody just does

their job they should be in the mix right maybe not the playoffs we'll see but they should be in

the mix so it's not on Logan web to necessarily exceed expectations he just has to meet his the

problem has been he's met his but the hitting hasn't met theirs and the defense hasn't met theirs

that's been the issue so if everybody meets their expectations there isn't too much on Logan web

shoulders the issue is these last couple seasons they haven't the pitching rotation somebody gets

hurt and I get it you know that's nobody's fault but somebody gets hurt or they just don't have it

the hitting it goes cold or when you need it it's not there the defense when you need to play they

don't make it so this team is built for everybody to have the same amount on their shoulders it turns

into Logan web having too much on his shoulders when the back of the rotation can't do anything

and players that are not here anymore so there's no point in saying anything aren't pulling their

weight so now his start means that much more to set the tone because you don't know what you're

gonna get from the the fourth starter you don't know what you're gonna get for the fifth starter you

don't know what you're gonna get from the third starter so that puts too much on his shoulders

but the way this team is designed everyone should have the same amount and before you say well

Alan isn't that everything no it's not there are certain teams where well this guy's gonna have to

have a great season or that guy's gonna have to have a great season obviously all that would help

but if all these guys just play through their typical standard they will be in the mix so I don't

think there's too much on Logan web shoulders based on how the team is created there could be too

much on Logan web shoulders if other teammates don't show up if other giants players don't show up

that's what puts you in a position where you say oh well now and that's how it felt last season

that's how it felt last season we have to win the Logan web game because if we don't have the

Logan web game we don't win that game then we're already in a hole we don't know what's going to

happen you know Robbie Ray the first half of the season was great second half not so much all right

land and rupe maybe we'll get a win there after that you you chaiwei tang or Carson wisdom

whoever it was Justin Verlander it's a mixed bag then this whole time nobody's hitting anyway

and they're not defending either and they're committing errors so I don't think there's too much on

Logan web shoulders he just has to be Logan web it's not about him it's about what is the rest of

the team going to do because if the rest of the team does not play up to their standards then it

turns into well we we got Logan going tonight and you know he's really got to set the tone now every

ace has to set the tone for their team don't get me wrong right that goes back to in college you play

Friday Saturday and Sunday Friday guy was your best guy right you win that Friday game hey our guy

versus your guy mono we mono we won that one right but if you have a really good Saturday guy

and a really good Sunday guy that oh man they got us on Friday they got a guy that's going in

the 10th round of the of the MLB draft let's see if we can get them on Saturday and Sunday right

if you have that setup if guys do their job if guys don't do their job then that Friday game

you have to win and some nights you're not going to win it you're not so Robbie Ray today opening

day starter however you want to call it he's got to reset the tone there can be more than one tone

setter we all talk about the main guy right we all talk about that ace has to set the tone well you

can reset the tone they're not one game series you can come back and say hey well we got Robbie who's

been rolling right now we got landed root one of the most underrated young pictures in the leak under

rated young starters in the leak we got somebody like that or our lineup is going to set the tone

you're going to have a problem every single night but when you give up when you only get three hits

and you get blanked nobody set the tone that's not just on Logan web that's on everybody involved

so I don't think there's too much on Logan web shoulders it's just whether or not the other

guys are going to show up now Logan can't regress I think that's a big part of this because if he

regresses this team is cooked so maybe that's why there's more on his shoulders if land and root

regresses the team still has a shot if Robbie Ray regresses they still have a shot but either way

this team is built with a very small margins of error and that's how it's been from jump street

so I don't know that's just something that a lot of people were talking about and I don't think

that he has an unfair amount on his shoulders I think he's just a leader and he understands that

we don't know what we're going to get from the other guys but if we get what we're supposed to get

then Logan just has to be himself he doesn't have to win the side young it would be nice

but he just has to be who he's been since he put on a giant's uniform on the other side

do we have any new worries after that game that did happen but maybe didn't happen and it was all

to learn more one more segment with you and the question is to end this show did your worries change

after one game well you know we didn't really get to see the worries that I had because the game

wasn't close enough for it to matter but my bullpen conversation I guess there's two conversations

right the pitching and then you have the bullpen specifically and I guess to a lesser degree the

hitting and hitting wasn't that high on my list but as far as the pitching is concerned well no

because the bullpen actually looked pretty decent they were low leverage situations but they didn't

make it worse you know some of the scores that I saw yesterday somebody put up 11 12 15 runs

so the giants didn't do that but as far as pitching is concerned it's just one start for Logan

Web so I don't know that I'm more so worried about the starting pitching because only Logan Web has

started so far but the hitting to me I mean it was a little sobering to watch a team and it gave

a little bit of a flashback miss to what we've seen from the giants before just as far as you know

not being able to do anything specifically against lefties and just putting up a bit of a stinker

offensively so I think that was the main thing oh okay well hitting wasn't on my worry list

should it be higher on my worry list and as somebody that said hey Bryce Eldridge who hit that

home run when they when the river cats played the giants Bryce Eldridge is somebody who didn't

necessarily force his way onto that lineup well if the giants continue to only put up three hits

and zero runs yeah let's go ahead and call Bryce and I don't care if it's lefty lefty or not

let's just see what he can do or at least you know mix it up a little bit the N-Karnas Yone

conversation over KC Schmidt I guess at first base KC Schmidt definitely a better first base

been than N-Karnas Yone but hitting wise it's a little questionable there I mean at least N-Karnas

Yone we know has crazy power I don't know that he's actually a better hitter than KC Schmidt

but the hitting for me I'm definitely gonna pay even closer attention to moving forward because

that's the thing and I've been accused of being a hater of multiple players on this team but

one of the players in particular is Matt Chapman you know when we talk about ex-factors how about

Matt Chapman having a crazy season that's a guy you could really throw any of these guys in

there as we talked about in the Logan web segment could there be a situation where somebody exceeds

expectations that'd be great but everyone's got to meet expectations so whether it's Willie

Adamus or Matt Chapman this team is built for everybody to meet those expectations and if they

don't it could be rough now somebody's gonna pick up your slack you'd hope but yeah I the hitting

to me is now I'm getting a little sweaty pumped I should say now I'm getting a little bit oh okay

well you know let's let's go out and put some runs up today it doesn't have to be a 10 run

tight deal anything like that but can we go out and and put up some runs here and just make

everybody feel a little bit better about the situation and here is opening day 2.0 for you you

have Luis arise leading off Matt Chapman hitting second Rafi Devers D.H.ing again Willie Adamus

at short stop hitting fourth young who Lee hitting fifth and right field Ramos hitting sixth

in left field Casey Schmidt at first base again Patrick Bailey catching Harrison Bader in center

field and Robbie Ray is the left-handed pitcher on the bump okay so Casey Schmidt again you have

Rafi Devers and he's gonna be D.H.ing and that's a little bit interesting because the Yankees are

starting that young guy that we saw in the playoffs what was that last season Cam Schletler and

he's righty so you're still going with you're still going with Casey Schmidt and that was the

question about having no lefty bats to come off the bench so you know whether that could have been

an incarnation or Casey Schmidt or it could have been Bryce Eldridge in this situation so you know

I'm not gonna go back on how I felt initially that hey Bryce is gonna make his way up because I

do believe he is but yeah this is gonna make some people and I'm not even gonna read the comments

to paves but this is gonna make some people definitely go okay this is interesting but they don't

have any righty bats by the way real quick bus supposedly was on the flagship and he said he

wasn't really worried about having no lefty bats off the bench he said that he didn't know how

often they'd be pinch hitting he literally said that so there you have it for those that are saying

whoa no lefty bats off the bench yeah buster according to what he said at least they're not

worried about it and they don't know how much they're gonna be pinch hitting anyway so just wanted

to let you know on that one so those are the line-ups obviously some of you will be listening and

watching this while the game is going on just how it's gonna happen now that the season has
