Sometimes historic events suck. But what shouldn't suck is learning about history. I do that through storytelling. History that doesn't suck is a chart-topping history-telling podcast, chronicling the epic story of America, decade by decade, from the 18th century to the 20th. Original music and immersive sound design accompany us on our storytelling journey. Listen to and follow history that doesn't suck. An Odyssey podcast available now on Apple podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Football talk, upper john, the fan presented by Xfinity. Score the most reliable Wi-Fi. One price, five years guaranteed, Xfinity. Imagine that. Niggin' JP back on the fan. We got the lead coming up in about 40 minutes time. Lockin' in. And JP and I agree on Brown's wins and losses. Not the overall record individual games coming up at six o'clock tonight. By the way, Darrell had the most Darrell tweet about the Shedore Jersey thing ever.
Yeah, what do you think? If you're just joining us, Fanatics had a good deal of Shedore jerseys marked down to clearance at $3,99.99. And then the story got out and they realized they might be breaking news that Shedore might be a short timer in Cleveland. And they immediately flipped them back to regular prices. Yeah, that's why they did that. Darrell saying, everyone can relax. That's the least relaxed person I know is saying, everyone can relax. Shedore Sanders jerseys are off the 70% clearance and back to normal price at the Brown's online team store. People could have gotten a hook up, but a discount like that when viral and ruined it for everyone. And ruined it? That's what Darrell's saying. Darrell, yeah. I didn't ruin it. No, ruined it. Yeah, because people couldn't be cool. As if people didn't talk about it online. It was just going to exist forever. Yeah, as if more people come on Darrell. Is that for an hour or 15? If you didn't take advantage of it, that's on you. At right or wrong FAN, by the way, if you want to follow that delightful phone, has anybody figured out how many I purchased?
Seven. 32. Hmm, are 12. Far back. Far back. Wrist up. Meanwhile, we got Ohio State Texas this weekend. We had a very nice Darian Mensa performance for Miami. We got a lot of college football to talk here. And so we head out to the Wyne Sharp right. We make it right. Call Kyle Wright hotline Pete Futech. College football news now. Joining us Pete. Welcome back to the show. There's a man who walks around my neighborhood. Yeah, older man. It's been about 15, 20 years or so. You know, maybe that all quite there. But okay, this is a nice old man who wears a Cleveland Brown Andre Ryzen jersey. What's that? What would that so for compared to the Shadour jersey? Brown jersey. That's a real one. That wasn't that one wasn't set on fire by by left eye. That's a it made it. Yeah, maybe so hot got there. But, uh, but yeah, you know, you know, Shadour. That's just kind of all right. Good. Yeah, that there's the last stuff happening in your world here. It's football. A lot of football.
These things happen. If you usually do be like that, Pete. All right, thinking about Ohio State Texas this weekend, who's got more pressure on them going into this game? Archmaning or Julian Sain? Oh, by a hundred thousand times it's a large man because it's a home game. This is they they're owned to in the big giant games. Again, grind and Ohio State at this point. And yeah, they've only played five times. And all five of them were hugely meaningful. Whether it was, you know, the bench young performance and the win over Ohio State. Grader, the great bowl game in there. In the mix. I mean, these are, you know, Ohio State, Troy Smith, you know, set the tone for a season with the win. They go to the longhorn three. These have been awesome. And of course, you know, the semi final game in last year. You know, if I just played Ohio instead of Ohio State, it's in the college football playoff and Miami isn't. You know, so these, this is as bad as massive as it gets. But you look at the schedule ahead for Texas.
If they don't win at home against Ohio State, this is another nine and three year that they're probably not going to make the college football playoff. If Ohio State loses, okay, fine. It's Texas on the road. Still have to go to Indiana. Still some nightmare games ahead. The much tougher schedule than last year. But they're probably not losing two more games. And for arch, again, this is your, you're at home. You're supposed to win this game. And that's the show up and play well. How do you think he looked? Obviously, it's tough. It's against Texas State. It is what it is. But the, the interception I thought was pretty awful. And actually, there's parts of the, the first quarter where I was a little like, Arch, I don't know that I love this. What was your perception of how he played in a week, week one at least? Exactly. Week one fine. You know, you can't really get too much into the weeds about a throw here or play there. He was great at the end of last season. He progressed. People stopped paying attention to Texas for the most part.
But he really did get better. And I still think he gets a bum wrap because what everyone, you know, he just got cemented in everyone's mind, that opening game of last year. Yeah, sorry. Your first game really is a full-time starter. Goes against the best defense in college football, which gave up nothing pretty much all year long. I mean, it's not his fall. Ohio State's defense was awesome last year. And yet, all the time he gave all our arches, you know, this guy is overrated blah, blah, blah. Well, so was everyone else who played against Ohio State's defense last year. This one, let's see if the defense can show up again for Ohio State. And make arch look bad. But if you want to talk about count wise, I've been preaching all year that Ohio State off and is unfairly counted at the skill spots. Well, so is Texas. I mean, can Coleman's going to be a top 10, maybe top five pick? And it would not be insane. I don't think it's happening. But would not be completely wacky. If he was the first receiver taken off the board, I'm going to be Jeremiah Smith, of course.
But it's not crazy. You know, I would smother as an NFL caliber running back. And arch is probably the number one overall pick. So they've got everything there. And they're in Texas. All the pressure is on Texas in this to win this. All right, Pete. I'm not a big believer in Steve Sarkeesian. And every year he gets a fair amount of love despite Texas being pretty OK most times. Be look at him. Steve Sarkeesian, Dan Laning, Lane Kiff and Mario Cristobal. There's probably another four or five guys behind him that belong in this. But Ryan Day was that guy for a long time. The people said, good coach, great job. Can't win the big game. Can't win the natty. Who is the next coach that deserves the most deserving coach of guy that can't win at all that actually ends up winning at all? First of all, let me take Kiffin out of there. He is the coach. But he hasn't had the program. I mean, remember at USC, they were under the Reggie Bush
coma penalty stuff where they really couldn't recruit. They weren't eligible for anything. In one year at Tennessee, the guy took Florida Atlantic to 2011 win seasons. And Ole Miss is basically Vanderbilt on steroids as a program. That's not a superpower level program. He's getting his chance now. This is when I think the lane, there's part of it. I think this is why the SEC's lost its mind because they realized that basically they have Nick Saban going to Alabama here. That he is that good. And he is bound by nothing in terms of resources. And that's why I kind of take him out of that pressure mix. Christopher Ball-Yad with certain accepting got them there last year. Dan landing, it's weird with him because I am waiting to see that time when we're watching Oregon and he doesn't have to flare up his team. It is strange for some reason. And this is it. Remember, Oregon has not lost to a team that wasn't in or running national championship in the last four years. Like every team whether it was Washington twice a couple years ago
or out of state or last year losing to Indiana. This team doesn't lose to anyone but national title teams. But yet, they always seem to underwhelm. They need to be motivated to come out in the second half. But yes, they're teasing. The thing about him is, look, he brought Texas back. Remember just how bad Texas was for so long. It had a moment or two here and there in the post-Mac Brown era. I'm totally blanking on the guy's name. Who's the coach who was there who was good for a little bit? Charlie Strong? No, he was good for a year. But God, there's one other guy I'm totally glad I just need to be embarrassing. But yes, anyway. He was the coach who there for like 10, like years. Tom Herrmann. Thank you. Oh, Herman. Yes. And he was good for a while but then not. But he brought the program. Remember a Benzo? Just ask him. I'll tell you. I'm certainly not. To a super power status. But the problem with Sarkeeson can use to be
wait long enough and he's going to blow it. I will never get over the second worst play call in the history of football. Next to the Seahawks throwing it on first and go from the one with Marcia. I'm in fact there a second or whatever it is against the Patriots. Second worst play called running wide on that Ohio State defense in the semi-final. That's all you had to do with push push archmaning four times from the one and let's see what happened. And he always they always just get too cute. Though game plan against Washington and the other semi-final year before. I don't know. Maybe you should throw the ball against this defense. I can't do anything. They didn't figure that out until five minutes to go. So he's obviously a great coach. Obviously a great recruiter. In fact, this is obviously great. But there's always that one moment where the Bobby Night Live classic line of I was worried his team was better than us and I looked down the other side and there was zero-pronged coaching at the other end and I knew everything was going to be okay.
Kind of that way with Sarkeeson here. Hey y'all, I'm Maddie and I'm Poodle and together we host the podcast reality gays. We are two ridiculous homosexuals who love nothing more than talking about reality television and tearing it a new one. So whether it's 90 day fiance, love is blind, love after lock up, or any other trash TV show about lonely hearts looking for love, your gay besties got you covered, Joe. New shows every week. Following listen to reality gays wherever you get your podcast. I'm the gayest love. Uh, Pete, last year I really didn't expect it to be what turned out to be a 14-7 game. Sayon's numbers uh where he just wasn't very impressive. I thought Elastay kind of protected them 13 to 20, 126. He didn't really push the ball down the field and in archers name. I was just very disappointing in general. Uh, tell me how you think this game is actually going to go. Is it going to be low scoring or the two quarterbacks have evolved enough now where we might get a little bit more of a shootout. Defenses are obviously very different for both sides. Elastay turning over a lot of guys last year to this year.
Yeah, the same pale apologies here for, you know, for Matt, saying this for many. That Texas defense was the truth too. I mean, they they had some NFL dudes on that side. So you're talking about, yeah, great quarterbacks, but these defenses are both elite. Uh, the thing that I'm waiting to kind of see on this one is, all right, are you going to go full throttle here, Ohio State? And we saw it for that moment against ball state when it was at 99 yards to go. Yeah, okay, ball state. The first two runs don't go anywhere and then bam, saying it's that throw uh to get the amount of a jam. And then oh, yeah, look just float one to Jeremiah Smith who's totally covered for a 48 yard touchdown. Like it was like that was just frighteningly effective. The offensive line needs to be a little better than it was against ball state. That's a little nitpicking. I don't think we're going to see any sort of a shootout. I'll be shocked. I think that both teams are going to play a little bit not to screw up or lie on the defense field position. Blah, blah, blah. But at some point in the game, these quarterbacks have to be turned loose.
And we saw it a little bit in that opener last year where you could tell archmaning was just coach, don't screw this up and we have a shot. And they did. They had the ball in their hands and then all of a sudden the last driver of the game, what happened? It said go out there and let's you know chuck it and bleep it. And he just was a quarterback and you saw what he could do. He looked pretty good on that final drive when he can't we could stop thinking and just rear back in fire. I'm hoping we see that. I'm hoping we see these two quarterbacks get turned loose and these coaches play not to lose. All right, Pete. It banner week for Bill Belichack in Davos, Swini, despite the fact that Bill Belichack has a chance to start the season three and oh. I do want to know who do you think has a better chance of being an in season firing? Belichack or Davo? Oh, Belichack's fine now. I mean, look, he's seen this BTCU. I mean, that was a master class performance by the guy. It's Bill, if Billichack showed that he's probably the greatest defensive coaching mind ever.
In that game, let's see what happens going forward. Let's see if North Carolina can keep this up. The program might be a mess overall, but for at least right now, they're all right. I don't think Davos getting fired. Look, you know, it was ugly, but I like I keep I think the world is not quite getting what we're about to see with LSU like settle in. As long as LSU doesn't get kicked out of the SEC, which is not. And you know, Kiffin doesn't implode. This LSU thing is going to be a problem for pretty much the rest of our natural football lives here. I mean, this LSU is just that much better than just about everyone else other than the top teams. I think this is a case of bad game for Clemson, bad look. Bill, a good team. I think that was more about LSU just being awesome. But yeah, it's not a good look if you're if you're dabbo and you're Clemson and you're not that far removed from being the super power super powers. And you have the worst game of in your long story career against against the Tigers like that.
Is this the last week we see Bryce under what at Michigan is their quarterback? You know what? Here's what we're about to see. I can't wait to see this because there's a part of me that thinks that all right, Michigan had the weird week one. And also, Western Michigan's pretty good. That might we have a quirky game coming up in a couple weeks where Boise State comes to Kalamazoo. That might be a playoff game. That might be the game for the group of six conference champion because Western Michigan is a nasty Maxine. That's it. You're Michigan. You're supposed to win that game. All that kind of stuff. There is a weird part of me that thinks that Michigan's about to show up against Oklahoma. Like, okay, that's what you're talking about. And I had this that's really crazy thought that you know what? Either Bryce under what's going to get benched or else he rocks against Oklahoma. And this kicks him off and you know, weird way could that play have been his Heisman moment?
Like no, of course he's going to look awful the rest of the way. But if he kicks it in, that's the moment that everyone's going to remember. But we're going to see if they get rocked by Oklahoma and under what looks awful and is Oklahoma defense is that good? Then yeah, you got to do something to move that offense because he looked absolutely lost against Western Michigan. IP, we got 15 seconds. Who you pick and Ohio State Texas? Ohio State. Ohio State will win. Our same thing. Our choice of ball in his hands with a shot to win and the Ohio State defense will come through. IP, we appreciate you buddy. Great stuff. Thank you, Pete. There you go. Pete Futes at College football news on the Wyseheart right. We make it right call Kyle right hotline. Great stuff. Then we'll react to his thoughts on Ohio State Michigan. Ohio State Michigan Ohio State Texas in five minutes on 92-3 the fan.
