Swung online towards short diving. Paneas got it and Mars is going to be doubled off by 30 feet. You can't. You cannot let that happen. And Brandon Marsch with yet another base running mistake. Panea with a nice play in the hole, but Brandon Marsch has got to get that ball through before he takes off and he did not do that. Absolutely has to make sure it's through. A total joke last night of a base running display. Welcome back. It is the midday show broadcasting at the rally in Rourersford. I'm a Gerkspob and Grill in Rourersford. Come on out with us. Hang out. Have lunch. Ray did and you'll be live with us here from 12 to one excited. Have Ray on as we get ready to kick off another NFL season tonight with A.G. Brown who I'll be fully rooting against. And of course the Eagles on Sunday. We'll get back to the Eagles talk you. And whether or not they're locked for the playoffs in a couple of minutes. But let's let's attack that. What happened last night? So we were at the game. Yes. Do we went your ears are still ringing from the kids? The kids shout out to little girls. I don't know who they were, but they were screaming at the top of the air. They should have been screaming in the bottom of the seventh and the bottom of the
ninth at the Phillies because that base running, you know, the Phillies. It's interesting. It doesn't almost ever matter how good they play when they're hot because they've lost the benefit of the doubt around here when it comes to will they come through in the biggest moments will they will they finally get over the hump. And nights like last night. Or why I think they've lost the benefit of the doubt to so many people because they just don't play a smart role. Those base running mistakes and I want to give them credit and I felt it sitting there last night. They fought back. Yes they did. I mean that game was dead early when painter got hit around right. So it's like all right. It's a loss tonight and the little slow and he's flat off to the after the brave series. Okay. We'll just chalk it up. But they fought back. And I want it to be like wow. This could be a great win. But then those base running mistakes. We didn't play the boom one. I don't know what he's doing with the line drive off from Marches back in the seventh. Okay. Whatever. He leased. He scored the March mistake in the seventh. It's just completely ridiculous. That is that is. That's middle school. You know 10 year old little league level baseball.
The balls in front of you on a line drive. You either freeze or you take a step back. You don't start running. It's crazy. Got doubled off by that much. And then to make matters worse you they come back off a hater in the ninth. You think, oh there's no way they're going to hate it. Hater's awesome. They come back and they hit him and in mundo. So let's listen to this one. So should crushes one to right and decides to admire it. Let's hear it in the ninth inning. So who was watching it off the bat? And we could barely see but Cam Smith went leaping for it. The ball hit right at the top of the digital signage which is really difficult for us to see the ball at all in there. And that's why you run out of the box. If he runs out of the box he's probably a third base. Yeah. I don't even think it's probably. I think he's standing on third base with an easy triple. He's definitely almost there. Oh my god. Because he said it was it was crazy because he sat there right and he looked he admired it. Yep. Then he kind of did a light jog.
Then he started running tripped over second base. Yeah. You know what the unfortunate thing about that is that whole sequence right because we were there. And the party got started I got to say when when trade turn and hit that Homer. And we were sitting there and I said he bought it to go y'all. You just wanted to tell everyone. I did. I did. And the one is clear that you guys did not want to share with the people. You do deserve that one because you called it. I did. You're right. You called it. It's just it's not really germane to the superstition. It's not it's not germane. It is germane. It's not but if you allow me to speak. Go ahead. Go ahead. No because that was when because they were down like five. No who was it. Crawford got the first one right. So they were down like five one. And that that's when the party started to get started. Right. Right. And it's unfortunate that you fight your way back into a game like that. And you allow base running blunders. To to to to cost you that game. And you know you're talking about that social moment. And what world are you in a position right when you fight back like that.
To admire your home run. Well he thought he had a home run. No I know you thought you. And it's unacceptable. I know you thought you hit it. But but what like again I ask. What makes you feel like you in a position to admire your home run when you're scrapping and clawing. Like you you would have been like a half a game up on the what was it a half a game. Because the braves lost last. Well they were picked up a game. Yeah that's what I meant. That they would have picked up a game. So yeah you would have been in a better position if you would have just stayed in stay where your feet were. Also that's the point that I was trying to make stay where you feed our. The Cubs lost last night. And look I think the division is probably not going to happen anyway. But that that Cubs. And that's the only card. Literally might come down to one game. And if they're they lose it by a game we could clearly point back to last night because that's just crazy. Let's hear Tom Maddenly after the game talking about the base running. I was watching the ball. So I didn't see if he was going full speed all the way. I was a little surprised when I looked up. Where he was at because I usually ball comes off that far.
You know you're you're thinking three there balls up in the air a little bit too. Again I didn't see it but I was thinking. I was wondering why he really wasn't as far as he should have been. Well you all were done. That's a nice way that's the nice way you say it. I wouldn't like because you don't want to kill the guy but at the same time you're kind of wondering what what is going on. All right does he have to talk to the team today. I mean I what are you going to say what are you going to say. It's unacceptable what happened last night. They had the meeting about that about the head. No no no but what I'm saying is. Okay you can have that meeting but that was stupid. Like you didn't know that was stupid. No but they've been doing it for years. They have been one of the dumbest based running teams in baseball for a long time. I mean it's led by Harper right. Harper didn't do anything wrong last night but he's been that guy that just runs the bases like he's have drunk. So they all do. It has to change you. In the playoffs the margin is so thin right. If you have a moment. You have a moment like last night you could be out of the postseason and I just feel like. It's hopper always let it go.
Maddenley has an opportunity today and I'm not saying flip it you know table over. This isn't 1980. I it's not Dallas Green. I get it. It's a different time but don't you have to say some colleges brought up. They had that meeting about their approach and it seemed to it seemed to work for a little bit. Yeah maybe we got to have a meeting today about hey. We're close guys. We're close to to October. Yeah but we cannot have these moments. But again Joe and that that was stupid. The base running was stupid. What do you say to grow me in that moment that they shouldn't already know. I don't know but he didn't know. Didn't what weren't we all like wow like all it took was for them to remind them to have a play. I get what you said they didn't like they shouldn't have to be told that either. I get what you saying Kyle but but my thing is this when you when you're when you're a man well I'm assuming when you're a manager. And you know the position that you're in and you've been playing some pretty decent baseball up into this point. What else is there to say like like the proof is right there right in front of me to suggest this. What if the next time it happens he takes the guy off the game like marsh.
The marsh marsh one. I think you do things like that or maybe so it's better. So it's a lot harder in the post. No but what about taking him off the field. But that's what I'm saying fellas it's like I hear I'm not disagreeing with the way that you feel how you're feeling. But they're grown as men and you're scrapping and fight like you're fighting for a playoff spot and you're fighting for positioning in the playoffs right. That was stupid the base running was stupid the cat like to admire your home run that was stupid. And all you had to do I would think that in a moment like that you just look at him and be like hey. Don't don't let it happen again. Well all right so I guess hear me out here because it seems pretty apparent that this team like they kind of hit rock bottom in a certain aspect. Now earlier it was like every aspect they fired the manager they got the kick in the ass they started button it up a little bit. They played a little better for a good month sort of a similar thing with the batting offense hit rock bottom. They had a meeting about the plate discipline for a month.
Bats look pretty damn good. Maybe just maybe this is the type of team that just needs a little kick in the ass every now and then. And to me if that's the case then they don't deserve to go to the world. Well you know maybe like like if that's the case because like this is a word trying. Yeah listen to what I'm saying when you talk about the last few years in the history of the squad and how they've looked down the stretch. We're down the stretch we only got like what 15 like two weeks left 17 game. And you're making those kind of mistakes come on man. No I hear what you said I'm not I'm not disputing what you're talking about but we're too late in the game. For me to be telling you or telling a grown ass man hey you know. Make sure you see make sure the balls clear before you you take off. Let me ask you this maybe is it not maddenly is this a shwerber thing like let me go to you. When you play like if you guys you didn't do it and you were really good team.
And I didn't I didn't think mental mistakes was why you guys didn't get over the hump just you didn't. But you like if you guys were doing stuff like this if you could jump off sides or you know something similar akin to what happened last night. Would it be Andy or would it be someone like doc like or try like who would be the one to say hey we got it we got a clean this. Oh yeah dog like in that moment yeah that would be a dog so it should be should it be should it be shwerber. I mean that the equivalent would be shwerber on this team does he have to close the doors and say enough. Well like we're this close. No I hear you but I feel like this late in the game. Number one you should you should feel bad about your performance from last night anyway. Well I'm sure I'm sure they do. Number two like come on dog like only thing I was saying was like come on dog we're too late in the game to do these kind of have these kind of shenanigans. Well the here's the part that is frustrating. This is why they people don't give them the benefit of the doubt. We don't when we talk about them we talk about them more for like think about the last three or four days.
We're we've harped on and I think people are thinking about the seven straight fastballs to a cune. And then last night right the base running more than hey you know the top four in the rotation are dominating right now. Hey they came back last night on the Astros and almost won that game. That's it's their fault. They're the reason we feel this way 215 592 94 94. All right we got a lot to discuss here you take on the fillies that base running. I think maddenly and or shwerber needs to say something today. I don't think they could just let this go because it's just it's a what happened last night was ridiculous way to lose a baseball game. The Eagles are they a lot to make the playoffs. We'll check in on our poll question and we got to get to some recent quarterback news in the NFL two different quarterbacks two different approaches. Which one if possible. Would you want hearts take it was available with that next to one five five nine two ninety four nine four broadcasting at the rally in Roars for the McGurks pop and grill. In Roarsford coming soon is a brand new McGurks in why I'm missing lots of discuss coming on hang out with a Smith Day show on sports radio 94 W.
I think everybody is tailgate season and by now you know my favorite thing to bring to any tailgate is a ball of Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey. I go with the honey I can go with the fire apple or the new blackberry you can spice up your tailgate with one of the Jack Daniels flavors. Jack Daniels honey is the one I like to go to most time and has that real sweetness but sometimes missing fire at the tailgate works just as well. But if you don't want to do any of those you can do the Jack Daniels apple is perfect for the fall you know fall season and finally the blackberry.
