The Phoenix Suns enjoyed a career year from Dillon Brooks, who enters the upcoming season with a contract extension and a slimmer figure. When speaking with reporters after his contract, Brooks joked about losing weight and playing differently this upcoming season, but there could be some truth behind his humor.

PHNX Suns continues its offseason player profiles by analyzing Brooks’ previous season and how he could evolve for the Suns in 2026-27. With him preparing to play more of a perimeter-based role, how are the Suns impacted?

Gil, Stephen and Aryton discuss Brooks’ outlook for the upcoming season and how they think his changes will impact his play. Follow the show: @PHNX_Suns, @GilMcGregor_, @StephenPG3 and @FreckledMamba!

How can Dylan Brooks build on a career year with the Phoenix Suns? Well, he's had a big off-season, a transformation, or off-season. Steven and I are going to get into Bill and 2.0 and what that could mean for the Suns. P.H.A. next Suns on a Friday coming at you after this. What's up? What's happening? Happy Friday. Welcome into P.H.N. X Suns. I'm Gilles Steven to 2. My right. The Breckled Monbub is behind the mat. We got Joseph Dre in the chat hanging out with us here on a Friday as you all file in. We are excited to have you with us. Got a lot on deck for you all today. Talking about Dylan Brooks is busy off-season. He's been here there everywhere, but one place that's been the constant is the gym. He's been in the gym and the hard work is paying off. We'll talk about how that hard work is paying off. What he said about that hard work and what that could mean for

the Phoenix Suns. We'll also have some fun at the end of things, but we'll also talk about stop me. You've heard this before. A world in which? Is there a world in which Devin Booker is disrespected by national media? Oh boy. I believe it's the world that we live in. It's the world that we live in. That's what we start with on this Friday afternoon. Over at the athletic Jason Jones did a tier list. We love our tier list, so we can appreciate our tier list. What he did was tiered players who could see their number retired based on what they've done for their respective franchises. This is not a personal knock on Jason Jones because I kind of understand where he was trying to come from. I think that he meant well, but the tiers are as follows. Tier one definitely would be retired. Tier two almost certain to be retired. Tier three on the right track, but it's early tier four. Just not sure where's team in tier five or local heroes. I think you know where I'm going with this disrespect because Devin Booker number one's last number 15 did

not fall into tier one. Definitely will be retired. Devin Booker's number is definitely going to be retired by the Phoenix Suns. Before I'd even mention those tiers to you, you would have placed them there, right? Absolutely. I get without question without hesitation. One and 15 will not be warned about anyone else that does not have the last name Booker and that has scored the most points in multiple different stadiums and been a bastion for everything that is Phoenix for the last decade plus at this point as synonymous with the franchises any other player has been in the history of one of the most winning franchises in the NBA's history is existence. Like there's a lot both voting in his favor. He hasn't even turned the full leaf into the new chapter 15 quiet. And just I won't go through every single number that he had on this list of guys in the definite tier, but some he had Damien Lillard with the Trailbledgers. No argument. Jason Taden with the Celtics. No argument. Shay with the Thunder. No argument got interesting when he said, Kauai with the Spurs and Raptors

because they don't have a hardware number two for the Spurs right now. And there's there's a world in which he ends up having a better Spurs career than Kauai Leonard had. It's a lot. It's a lofty expectation. Yes, but it could happen. Some that stand out Kyrie with the calves AD with the Lakers Anthony Edwards with the Timberwolves play Tons of the Warriors. Not going to argue that they've already said that that's going to happen. Jimmy Butler with the heat LeBron with the calves and Lakers, which he didn't say LeBron with the heat by the way. Yes, with the Bucks KD with the Thunder and Warriors, which is kind of interesting. Then Luca with the Mavs and Lakers. And the rationale for Devon Booker and being in the he put him in tier two with the tier of almost certain, but I don't understand how you have like KD with the Warriors or Luca with the Mavs or Lakers, especially if you're using the the rationale of well, hey, he hasn't won a championship yet. Luca hasn't won a championship yet. KD didn't win a championship with the Thunder. AD is gone. He didn't do that much. I mean, he won a championship with the Lakers. Anthony Edwards hasn't won a championship

with Timberwolves either. So I just don't understand how a guy who as we talked about, even if you're talking about tangible things, five All-Star appearances, all-time leading scoring for Anciestory, finals run 2021, reset the culture in the bubble in 2020. When you think of Phoenix Suns, there's a short list of names you get to before Devon Booker. If he's not the first player that you think of, so I'm just here to say not to pick on this list, but to say that Devon Booker number one's going up there for sure and 15 might be joining as well. 100%. I'll take even a different list than the one we've already spoken through just to the thought exercise of this and that I think the way the terms, the way in which and the way a place that you previously existed with is spoken on after the fact matters and matters a lot. And this is no disrespect to the players because they probably have more reasons than what they have actually vocalized in tone or in literal defining and detail of their previous situations.

They might have even more to speak on than they've actually made us as the public privy to, but just for the sake of the thought exercise, Anthony Davis and his relationship with the Lakers, not on the up and up, little fracture, not on the up and up at all. Kevin Durant and his relationship with the Dubs, not on the up and up. Very fractured. Look at Dantje and his relationship with the Dallas Mavericks, not on the up and up. So like my real reason, any memory of the whole magic era when they had that thing in their display case don't exist anymore. So they had a lot of repairing to do for him to be a definite versus to your point. That's yes. This is a counter perspective that I haven't just kind of listening and having looked at the rationale and the reasoning and the way that the template for this was kind of put together. I can't see it with any of those LeBron for all the sense and purposes. We know who he is to the history of sports and the game

and culture and all of these things. Lakers fans said I had to have a lot to say about LeBron last season. I want to talk about him in the lofty light that I feel conversation should be in in regards to Mr. LeBron James. Um, left it better than he found it. Yes. Kyrie's exit from Cleveland also wasn't the unceremonious. Yes. So you see the picture on painting there of all the names that that we mentioned here. I mean, why the exit from San Antonio to face the case of my other number like. Yes. That's another example of the names you mentioned. The only one that resonates and again, this is a very sensitive thing. It's very fluid. Anthony, Anthony Edwards in the Minnesota Timberwolves. By the way, Jim. By the way, it wasn't that great. No, it was not at all. There was a lot of back. Shabbat. He was sitting home. Yes. Shout out to H. Yes, there was a lot going on there. So the common denominator I'm speaking to, multiply it even further than the three to four

names I initially spoke on because you just brought up three more that just slipped my mind just because of the magnitude and recency of some of the other names mentioned. I just don't know about it. I think in that reason and that counter perspective, just further supplements, the dev and book are should be in the top of the top tier there because it's unquestionable that his number is going to be retired. And I'm not projecting forward because I firmly believe that he will retire a Phoenix son. But if he were, if things were to ever go, hey, wire and he ends up deciding to go with separate, separate ways, I can't imagine this anything less than amicable between both existing parties. Just for the sake of the relationship built, the time spent and what this time here in Phoenix has meant to Dev and Booker. That being said, he's sure fire two jerseys retired, having a statue outside of the arena that firmly looks just like Dev and Booker, not a generated version of Dev and Booker, anything like that. All of that stuff will be there in

there. So man, hopefully it comes with them also having gotten a ring with this franchise, which would be his first. And it's so much to talk about not just the franchise itself, but the entire area. It's seeing Dev and Booker at Dianter Rossi's Ring of Honor induction. Seeing Dev and Booker in Kenton for Larry Fitzgerald's Hall of Fame induction, like it's not just him being synonymous with this franchise. It's the city that he represents so well. And you can't, and it's not a knock on these other guys, but you can't say that about a lot of superstars in the NBA being one with their particular community. And I think that that is a draw. That's the reason why people want to come play with him. Maybe he's going to play with Uno now. He want to play with 15. Kensei, they want to come play with him now. See I'm flexing my Spanish a little bit as I kind of talk through it in real time. But thinking about that and thinking about so much that we saw from this team last year, the fact that Dev and Booker pledged to stay with this franchise and people kind of scratched their head at that thinking that the franchise was going nowhere fast. But the moves

they made, the trade that they were able to make to bring in Dylan Brooks and Jalen Green and get the draft pick that became Kamala Malawatch to move things in the right direction and be ahead of schedule largely had to do with Dylan Brooks being who he was last year. And reading the article that I read about them becoming fast friends and bonding during their time in China last year, makes me excited to think that okay, now they both have a year under their belts. Jalen Green, healthy. We've talked about that to know in. We've talked about our hope and belief for Kamala Malawatch. But I think when we talk about the elder station on this team, it's important to talk about the two oldest guys, the two key guys for this team and that is Dev and Booker. And I guess we could call them that the auction. But there are peers though. So shout out to the guys and make us not feel that old for covering this team. It's crazy. We both old and in. Yeah, yeah, we can stop right there. We are. Yeah, we got it. But yeah, we understand. But we're young at heart. But to think about those two guys and what we saw from Dylan Brooks last year and how excited

it was to see him be that player to come to a new system, a new area and the belief that they put in him again, the friendship that he and Dev and Booker had because they both work really hard. We've always been excited about and there's another question on the outside. Kenny build on that. Was that an aberration? Was that a lightning in the bottle? A flash in the pan? All the different things about this was a one off. Could that have been what Dylan Brooks did? But he puts in the work and he's put in a lot of work this off season. And we'll talk about what that work has led into. But the fact that also Dylan Brooks has been like the side quest king. This all season, well, he's in China. He's playing one on one. He's doing operation games. He's playing for team Canada and all of this. And in the meantime, he signs an extension with this franchise that aligns his future with Dev and Booker's future. And I think that the things that we're going to talk about add to that and can make us more excited, but should make fans more excited about that pairing and the fact that this front office and this coaching staff believes in what that pairing can become. 100% and it all

everything emanates what I love about the Dylan Brooks experience and people talk about all his first year is so much fun and then the second year and third year is not quite the same. That I think is more relevant to the situations he was in more than the individual himself. And I say that because when everything as far as what you present and what you bring to a situation is rooted in your work and it's authenticity, it's only going to rub the wrong people or people that are not in alignment with you the wrong way. If you are locked in with that love and feel and approach for the work coming first, second and third before anything external and you have people that share a similar if not the exact same mindset as you do, you're going to continue to find ways against adversity and challenges galore to lock in with each other earn respect and reverence for each other based off of the work put into the craft and what emanates from that is

maximizing your situation. I don't think it's a riddle why the sons were as good as they were last season. There's tangible evidence of the court and exes and those which we've done. All the details of none of that stuff matters if guys aren't putting in the work past the social media clips past all of the you know the the confident statements made all of that is great but it can't have the value that you hope that it does if the work is not what's setting the tone and at the foundation of where everything is emanating from. I think that is the main reason why Devin Booker and Dylan Brooks worked the way they did in their first season as a tandem. And there was a thing that I said around this time last year when people were saying I don't think Devin Booker and Dylan Brooks are going to work. Devin is a little bit quieter Dylan is a little more outspoken and loud and in the face of the camp. I was like all that stuff does not matter. For one thing Devin Booker's a winner Dylan Brooks is a winner and both of those two work. That's a lot to have in common when you talk about people being at some of the highest stages in basketball

in the entire world. You have that common shared thought process. You can find you can you can vibe with anybody that you know is putting in the work and that work translates to the game and nothing trumping winning and winning whatever the individual task at hand is. Absolutely and we got to come and actually ties in perfectly over going to talk about Ken Miles Bridge is take a leap this season. I think that thanks to Dylan Brooks he might be able to take a leap this season. We're just getting started talking about Dylan Brooks after our first break. We'll take a look back at what was achieved by Dylan Brooks in a career season in a Phoenix Suns uniform that resulted in that contract extension that he signed and now what we're looking forward to with Dylan Brooks and how he can make life easier for Devin Booker or continue to do that and how he can maybe help Miles Bridges take a leap this upcoming season. assist per game a steal per game shop 49% from two 34% from three Steven and we talk a lot about the work that he put in a lot of it was because of necessity because of the injuries that this team dealt with but characterizing Dylan Brooks season in a way that is sustainable replicable what do you think about what he did last year that he can bring with him moving forward I think what he did last season that he can bring moving forward is being such a steady hand for the sons to lean on being adaptable like Bruce Lee like water needs you to be one way he can deliver and be a time on task God for you and that on that front you need to lean on him in a different way maybe because of injury maybe because of foul trouble maybe because of matchups Dylan Brooks is there in a multi-factor facility way that allows for you to get the most out of whatever it is your team has to offer on any given night and this is just speaking through the offensive lens right now I will touch on defense in a minute which is something that has to be spoken on more when it comes to Dylan Brooks

because he is a defensive minded guy that also happens to be able to counterbalance that with being an impactful guy on offense but just more to the offensive side of things we talk a lot about the audacious shot attempts he talked a lot about the shots that he was able to knock down to the to the efficiency that he was on the contestedness that the shots came with last season I go back to a quote that he had I think it was on the second night of one of his back to back 30 point performances here at home and he gave us a little insight into his mindset because we heard things from the the ownership faction and Memphis that wanted to put him in a box and that led to some of the disconnected mindset because he's someone that puts in very precious volume of work to his craft shots that he takes in games are shots that he's wrapped out billions of times over the course of his basketball life and that's why he earned the results that

he did on said shots that he took last season they wanted to play a role in Memphis that didn't work out he ends up in Houston similar situation not necessarily to the same extent of the Memphis tenure but similar context where they were asking for different things from him finally gets to a situation and this is why it's so important when we're talking about players and how they fit with teams and what their production is relative to the fit and all that stuff you think about what a guy's template for success is you think about what his foundation as a player is and you ask yourself is this situation one where he's able to play to those strengths in a full capacity is it like a 75 or 50 percent capacity or is it like 25 percent break glass in case of emergency type situation last season with the sons it was very clear that the initiative was dealing you play the way that you need to on offense based off of some of the principles that we have but you play your game with the full expectation that they get the most out of Dylan

Brooks on the defensive end which leads to the most well-rounded version of Dylan Brooks that we've seen so far I don't think you get to those steps and how impactful he was on winning last season without that green light that he earned and I'll emphasize the earned part from Jordan not in company on offense because of the work that they watched him put in day by day Dylan talk about only other person he usually sees in the gym sometimes he even beats him to the gym is Jordan not imagine a reporter that's built up and trust knowing that a guy is putting in that type of work in his capacity the same way that you are yours that's where the buying comes from no for sure and that's the trust you talk about this guy puts in this level work I trust him to put in in these positions and trust him to take the shots that he takes and I'm not mad about it because he does that the certain way and we there's a lot to talk about the offense and we'll get to the defense in a second because there are a lot of comments that ironically fit in what we're going to talk about a little bit and one of the things I was talking about with the evolution of him offensively and what's going to be needed from him offensively you just do at least point

this out a while back but his ability to be a catch and shoot guy this year he's going to need to be able to do that and last year is 34% from three especially considering some of the types of shots that he took some of the type of late clock shots that he found himself having to take to save the team and he made at times can he step up and be a catch and shoot three point guy that can make opposing defenses have to adjust the way they guard the team because there's going to be questions about the shooting in this starting lineup and there's going to be questions about how Dylan Brooks is going to be in a starting line but one of the things he had to do a lot last year of necessity was play up and that brings you to some of the comments that we have my life in the phx sunshine says Brooks bag is heavier than I thought Andy asks can Brooks still be in path alone defense as he ages the way Dremon has been able to stay and the lead defender as he ages and that brings us to what we talked with Dylan Brooks about when he signed his contract extension I remember remarking to you when we walked in to see him speak with the media I said

Dylan looks like a little bit slimmer as he walked in and I always make maybe it's just I hadn't seen him in a while but one of the things you notice when you see Dylan Brooks in person is goes back to his Memphis days is that he's a bigger guy for an NBA player and he's still a big guy but he spoke about it and confirmed that he has had an offsets and transformation bodywise and here's what he had to say and the interesting takeaway or the interesting parts that go with what he had to say about his transformation yeah that's why I'm really not skinny so not I'm just played a three-spot so before now Miles is going to be able to you know give us that you know that size the agility and athleticism to guard the force so you know it's going to be able to you know make me be able to guard some of the wings and you know the guards which I like but it's interchangeable with me and Miles like you know I'm going to challenge him to be able to guard guards and challenging to be able to you know get out of his no comfort zone to be able to you know make

him better so until you can guard any position not only fours and threes but you know guarding guys from co-identitor to D. M. Fox so I can't wait can't wait to get started so it was good to get some confirmation when I was like Dylan looks a little bit slimmer for him to say I got skinny because they got Miles Bridges here and he said he can play the three more but he also mentioned guarding more perimeter guys this upcoming season because we talked a little bit about the physicality defensively with the bigger guys you have Devin Booker's not a small guy Miles Bridges definitely not a small guy but Dylan to adjust accordingly this offseason to go on a plan and be intentional about slimming down a little bit and that allows him to be a different type of player and maybe that adds more to what he's able to do offensively which we'll talk about but defensively thinking about Dylan and putting in the work to have this transformation and be able to say he wants to guard down more I know he mentioned challenging Miles to guard guys like Devin

Fox but I'm sure he wants to do more of that as well and that means less guarding up defensively and I'm curious what you think about one what that does for this team's defense in general but also the versatility and the trust that he has in the front court guys and that he's not going to be handling those responsibilities as much yeah I think that's the beauty of when you put together a starting lineup that has guys featured at 65 or taller from one all the way to five if Devin Booker or Jalen Green is the shortest guy in your starting lineup you have a relatively solid size starting group now I think where their starting lineup especially when you imagine their starting lineup having one of Jordan Goodwin or Colin Gillespie in it last season had to extend their pickup points and higher up the floor I think there were like top three or top two in the league flirted with that top two top three pretty much all season where they had to extend pickup points even with their tone setting unit last season to make up for some of the

lack of size that they have I think this upcoming season with Miles Bridges in the picture is Dylan Brooks spoke to because you have more size you don't have to pick up as high up the floor now pickup points will still be important I imagine they pick up closer to half court than they do the three point line but you won't have to extend it past half court with the starting unit template that we're speaking to here and I think that helps them kind of bog teams down in the half court a little more because that pickup point is going to be more physical than it was finesse with a good way nor go lesbian and when you're setting the tone like that with Miles Bridges on the court you can assume that Dylan Brooks is going to be guarding whoever the best perimeter offensive player is for every group now certain my certain matchups and might tweak it a little bit but for the most part it'll be dealing at those points of attack if he's the guy that's there and he's setting the tone what for whatever scheme it is they want to get into it hits a little different when you have that guy with that size and then another guy with more size behind them on top of the five that's on the court with both of those guys that builds out a different defensive process that allows for

their lineups to shape shift and scheme and dictate the terms of the game in different ways and it makes their entire approach a little bit more nuanced than it was activity based on defense last season now there's more to get there and I can't wait for tip off of preseason because I think this is a team that's going to get after it on that end in a unique way especially with Dylan being more point of a techno but that's a fun template to think about what kind of crosses your mind based on the first thing that comes in my mind is when this playoffs series last the last last season he says I got shake I'm gonna shake that up and left and he said I'm getting shade and he didn't say I until game four but a big part of the reason why he wasn't getting shade from game one one because Jordan Goodwin was available and then he wasn't anymore but also because of his size and what he brought to the table he was needed to do other things and then it brings you back to the conversation that we had yesterday about the shift in the western conference and that yes there's the big fella in San Antonio there's the big fella in Denver there's the big fella in LA now there are big fellas across the big fella in Minnesota but then beyond that

it's a bunch of guards and now when you think about okay again who are you aiming for who are you trying to compete with who are you trying to beat well think about teams you right next to you right Los Angeles this Luca Danchit and Austin Reeves, Shagilis Alexander and Jason Walsh when Shagilis Alexander really and Jalen Williams and Oklahoma City it's you pick Stefan Castle the Aaron Foxe Bill and Harper in San Antonio how many guards at a Portland Treble is just have like it's more useful I feel like for who the songs are trying to compete with and who they're trying to keep behind them to where okay we need to have him at the point of attack and we can trust him against all of these different guys to make life difficult and when you think about it as well yeah Dylan Brooks isn't big enough now we're not big he's still big he's not bang but he was a guy who would bang with Julius Randall and the likes of those types of guys this past year well those guys are in the west anymore and he's not necessarily that big anymore but you think about his physicality

he still has so much of a physical advantage over all of those guards that I just named and I think about Luca Danchit specifically he tends to have a tougher time against the stronger guards or wings or tasks with guarding him but if it's a longer lengthier guy like a JD Mac Daniels he typically has his way we saw in the 2024 Western Conference finals so to have a guy who can make life difficult for him and Shay and the guards in San Antonio that makes a lot of sense for Phoenix especially because people are trying to write off what they did defensively last year so now this gives him a different kind of edge because now he's evolving physically and this might be able to impact him on the offensive in as well but his physical evolution could also add years to his game because that's less on his knees but also it gives him more versatility because he can still switch on the big guys in spots but when you think team to team in the Western Conference the

first person for the most part you're thinking about being concerned about is there prolific guys on the wing and now that's Dylan Brooks responsibility. 100% and I think I think you make multiple great points in everything you detail there and I know you know this but this is more for just kind of our supporters and fans that are out there and everything there's the clear obvious physicality that Dylan has Dylan is also one of the most crafty defenders we know this is Chris Paul enthusiasts but there is a there's a poetic crafty subtleness to know how to be physical so guy goes in for a dribble handoff you want to blow up the dribble handoff with your inside hand or yeah with your inside hand or your outside hand rather but what your inside are you just kind of having it on the hip or are you slowly in the angle that there's a ref on that side and there's a ref directly behind you but they can't see your inside hand positioning here kind of forcing him

to get to that handoff a little quicker what is that doing that's disrupting the timing of the guy that's trying to either dribble at or have the ball extended our further handoff and that's creating daylight and opportunity for you to get that outside hand swipe in there just enough to potentially have a chance to either just blow it up completely create a turnover or force on to have to navigate to the next action which is take take take shot clock is dwindling down and down similarly he's dealing with pulling the chair in the post we've seen him do that plenty as well like there's there's more ways than just those two instances I'm speaking to that Dylan showcases that that IQ and that kind of subtle understanding of physicality but I don't think to your point him playing at a lesser weight total impacts his ability to have that physicality and thrust it on the game and kind of firmly establishing that tone setting identity for them. And one last thought I'll say and this is based on my life in the phx sunshine saying Rochir POA all five positions I do think that there's probably some conversations that were had

as well saying hey look Dylan we got co-opied now we got Rochir Fleming who notice we put on weight this off season we want less of that from you because we trust those guys so beyond Miles Bridges who Dylan said he's going to challenge to be a versatile defender and you pointed out this through the other day that he had the gain a season saving block for the hornet so Miles can do things on the defensive end but there are guys all these guys we talked about specifically Rochir and co-opied who again don't necessarily know how much they'll put on his plate in year one but you've got some really strong built guys who were six foot eight six foot nine who could be that guy we saw and I'm not saying they're going to be that but their physical archetype we saw the impact that OGN and OB had throughout the playoffs and you think about the blueprint well the nicks who are the defending champions had their one wing defender who was very strong but can guard up and guard down but then they have the McHale Bridges the more lanky guy who was

more dexterious than strong but also has his strength as well so you tripled that with Josh Hart and exactly so to be able to have that and talk about size and how you build around somebody and how you do that defensively they were able to knock off the West's best this past year who knocked off the favorite in the West so thinking about how the blueprint kind of all goes fully together it it all aligns as far as that goes on the defensive end but there's a conversation to be had offensively and we'll talk about this physical transformation with Dylan Brooks we see somebody who doesn't pose his physicality on the offensive end and after our next break we will talk about what to expect from the money offensive in this upcoming season we tease it a little bit but we'll talk more about it as it pertains to his transformation after this if you're involved in an accident or serious injury the lawyer that you hire does matter so do your research because that research is going to lead you to mark an Alexis Breyer the husband and wife law team they call Phoenix home it is their home they've raised their eight children here

absolutely loves the dark arts as a smaller guard if you do not involve yourself with them you're going to be at disadvantages and knowing how to use them push you in advantage so yes we love those things but as they pretend to the Dylan Brooks side of it all we transition to the offensive side of things Gill you look at the season that mr. Dylan Brooks was able to put together last season obviously it was a career year in terms of points per game and he put up some other career numbers when you look at the nuance within how he got to said 20 and some change per game when you look at the template that he showed to be successful operating off of last season and you look at the numbers that he was able to put forth both regular season and playoffs and the impact they had for the sons what stands out to you most about everything that he did well it's one of the things that you pointed out when i we our first was here and we were like talking about the isos and like how he was one of the best in the NBA in those isolation situations the mid-range

the fact that he was able to just operate in this area and i think that oftentimes when we talk about Dylan Brooks on the offensive end we get very amused and sometimes you mentioned the word audacious for some of those shot attempts like i remember the one that he had wasn't in front of like the august blitter i forgot what it was but he had like a crazy attempt in one of these games and he had like the shot that he took and against okc and the the win over okc this year where it's like man no no no no yes he does all of that but then it's really like the bread and butter that kind of gets lost in translation and lost in conversations about what he does getting to a spots confidently getting to a spots and the shots that he makes over multiple defenders just that are products of the work that he puts in and one of the things that stands out when i think about Dylan Brooks and this is important to the conversation that we're having is how he imposes his will physically and i think about how well he played in the playoffs against Oklahoma City and it was largely a product of him

putting his shoulder in two-chette home grinds chess and you look at the numbers that he put up against okc in the four game series he was the guy for this team 26 points per game six boys per game shade under two assists 47% from two 44% from three and a lot of had to see him flexing right there a lot of had to do with his strength and you might not be able to tell but if we decide by side of Dylan Brooks and the playoffs and Dylan Brooks playing the program this summer you can see he has slimmed down a little bit and you might not be able to tell but i'm telling you it's very noticeable when you see him especially if you wash them and been around them close enough but steven are you worried about that element of his game not completely going away but not being something that he can rely on as much because quite frankly when you give up a little bit of size you can give up a little bit of strength it doesn't necessarily mean that you do but you can i don't worry about it as much because i do think that you can still get to your bump fade

even if you don't have as much weight because this is less the brute force dynamic of it and it's more understanding of i've gotten my defender off balance so now i put myself in position to wear the slightest bit of a bump before my fade push that defender a couple inches out of position last me to get to my shot my release is clean and i have it in like the shot down like i think that that part of the nuance to his isolation game is still there i think that in addition to that he also understands angles very well understands what kind of angles to get to to then fade off of if he needs the bump he has it there but if he doesn't need the bump he can just get into a two and three dribble pull up going to his left for to his right also has the turnover going on going both directions too like we've seen we've seen the and this is the obviously a different type of guy but we've seen Kyrie Irving excel as a post up guard obviously we've seen a Paul George a Kobe Bryant obviously guys like that they've had very indifferent levels of weight that they

play that throughout their careers i think that they kind of boasts the same for someone like Dylan Brooks who has all of the footwork which is the foundation of all of that and now it's just a matter of how well is he getting to a spot i can't imagine playing that a lesser weight and being a little bit lighter being a little bit lighter on his feet won't be anything less than avid and vatages for him getting two said spots yeah i think that's important to think about with that as far as getting to your spots and the angles of everything and the footwork and the work that you put in because ultimately it is a level of cleverness and also when you think about him maybe you know playing less of the four because he was a match that would tell him because he's still going to be maybe matched up against guys who we strongly then because naturally just a strong dude so it's still going to have some type of strength advantage over some of his matchups even with slimming down and being a little bit different physically but it continues to bring me back to the fact that he could very well have not a completely different role but a pretty altered role

versus what he had in years past because won't years pass this past year because one jaylen green we hope knock on wood touch metal he's ready to go and ready to rock from day one no setbacks no then you add miles bridges into the equation and all that he's going to be expected to do and be for this starting lineup and that puts Dylan Brooks in a spot where he can adapt a little bit and it sounds like he's willing to adapt because ultimately he wants to do whatever it takes to win and i'm so curious to see what that that adaptation is going to look like with the physical transformation with the role evolving a little bit and him finding ways to thrive through all those changes i think that's the most intriguing part when it comes to him and it brings me back again over and over to what this team is going to do in transition but also how we can play off of the creation of the other guys because it won't be as much of him having to create for himself not to say I don't want to see it but more to say that that's taxing especially what you're doing offensively

so if they all can work together especially what you're doing defensively it all could work together if he's taken on more of a low defensively and guarding more point of attack guys and having to do less self creation on offense we could still see an evolved version in an effective Dylan Brooks yep and i think that's part of the that's part of the formula for them and trying to figure out how to continue to get more and more out of the skill set the mindset and the impact intangibly that he has for the sons um i think having someone who and i just not to say that Dylan isn't naturally inclined to this but someone who is a little bit more physically imposing naturally than Dylan Brooks's in Miles Bridges helps you with that because now you have a role that Dylan felt the need to and for all intents and purposes in terms of for the sons to win he had to play that because they didn't have anyone else that could do that last season having someone in that position now allows for you to have him play to some of his other strengths that is something that grew into a

strength for him last season but what about i think the mindset is what about if they were able to do the things with Dylan that got him to be in the perennial all defensive team candidate and being one of the guys that has always been an anchor for teams that finished no less than top 10 in the NBA and defense for the last like five seasons of his career um i think him being able to shift down to your point and now just defend against guards and wings a little bit more but also matchup offensively against said types of players helps them a ton i think the sons are a team that would be able to oppose some matchup problems for opponents Dylan Brooks still very much factors into all that because as you look at some of his numbers and we've talked about his catching shoot three point numbers with his Houston Rockets 10 year especially his final season there where he was a guy that was shooting it was in like a 80 if 85 percentile in terms of catching shoot three point guys he was flirting with conversations the likes of Clay Thompson and three point shooters that we know to be marksman like that off the catch and shoot you look at his season last year with the sons and

obviously the volume was significantly lower nonetheless three point nine catching shoot three point attempts per game last season shot 36.2 percent on those now when you get to the playoffs where he was average on 26 and he was doing all of these different things to help keep them afloat on offense that 3.6 now obviously in total the volume is significantly lesser because it's a series but that 3.6 jumped up to 3.8 and that 36 jumped up to 46.7 percent so this is a guy that based off of his last season with the Rockets the role they played there and some of the role that they had to have him play against okc and the playoffs the numbers speak for themselves this is a guy that can be firmly above 40 percent on catching shoots alone I imagine the presence of miles bridges and the usage that comes with that how that allows for Dylan to adapt into maybe a little bit more off the ball outside of late clock scenarios allows for him to play to a top tier skill that he has in terms of the catching shoots there's a level of preservation of your stamina over the course of a game if you're

taking more catching shoots playing off of clothes out versus arduous one on one on one because the team is having a little bit of issue in a half court flow wise. Steven do you anticipate Dylan Brooks being in some of the actions that we saw Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neill in last off in the last season yes to an extent I say yes because I can see him doing a lot of the cutting that Grayson and Royce did last season to move help defenders around and be able to kind of manipulate defense from the periphery I can see him doing a lot of that stuff for sure I don't know if Dylan has the movement shooting dynamic that Grayson has or that Royce has now he could prove me wrong and come into the season and be someone that shows that to a further extent that he maybe did in any of his previous situations and that might just be something that it just wasn't on the table from the doing those situations but I don't think we've seen them do with those two have shown to do pretty much the majority of their career so I think it's like 75% yes on a lot of that other stuff

but 25% and then no part is just the movement three point shooting and that's what it brings me back to the conversation that was asked or the question that was asked to us when the Grayson and Royce trait first happened and talking about how many three-point attempts that leaves on the table Luke will make up some of those but who's going to take some more of those can Dylan take more can dad then take more can Jaylin take more of this upcoming season in this conversation with that and that's a great question about like some of the things that he could be placed into and I also think that they're going to be new actions because this is you know a lot of carry over from last year but it is a new team makeup and I think it's also important when you're thinking through the lens of these things back to the idea of hey same thing with like guys come off the bench are they closing games who is Dylan Brooks closing games next to who is he spending a lot of time next to what type of effective units can they put together with Dylan Brooks as one of the centerpieces of it all but I think all in all we can expect as evidenced by the fact that he intentionally was able to make

changes to his body with a plan for the upcoming season in mind he's putting in the same type of work this offseason skill wise for what he's going to be asked to do this upcoming season so a big year ahead for Dylan Brooks will be a big part of what the sons are trying to do and how they are going to try to do any final thoughts on Dylan Brooks and he found questions any final things on Dylan Brooks so before we take to our final break yeah two quick ones one I'm looking forward to with the three point shot as we saw in the playoffs a whole lot more the green release the green release hop study does after he takes his catch and shoot three so you can tell he's in a rhythm and when this going in because he has a certain type of a certain type of bounce to his hop in step after he takes it shots it's always kind of fun movement pattern to see within guys and then the other one for me is I think he's going to do a little bit more of guard guard screening this season any day last year and the way he can match up hunt and manipulate things if they do switch him and Jalen or him and Dylan or him and Devon or him and Colin or even him and Luke at times I think it's a

different way the sons can approach things on offense and really punish teams that like to switch those type of scenarios absolutely I think the creativity and again giving Jordan out the flexibility to put different guys in different positions to succeed in different ways is one of the exciting things and honestly an unknown to see how good it can get for Dylan Brooks and the sons this upcoming season don't go anywhere we got one final say we have some fun to close out here because it is Friday so keep it locked in with us at pH and X sons catch you after I found a break Stephen I'm feeling good today I'm feeling great today I feel my tank of yesterday fill it up on the court too we did we got a dub yesterday and all the way back from getting the dub I stopped at Circle K because it was fuel day and I got 40 cents off each gallon of gas thank God because I am an inner circle member while fuel day is over you two can still save as an inner circle member if you haven't signed up already it's really easy to do so you can go to circle K calm down with the app whichever one floats your boat into your email address and your phone number and start saving but guess what now inner circle 2.0 is here where every visit count you
