Jim, there's no well, well, well, today for me. Well, well, well, well, from Stanley Cup contender to chump. Just like that. One game into the season and the season's already over. It's over before it even started going. Does anybody get fired yet? I knew that I knew this was going to happen as soon as Charles Barclay picked the flyers to win the Stanley Cup. Charles took the flyers. Yeah, I mean, he loves the flyers. He's only on the sixers too. I don't know if it's a relationship still. Is nothing the Bronquot? You all know. But let's just get this out of the way. You can pump like that for those that didn't see the flyers lost seven nothing to the penguins in their home opener after making the playoffs. And Jim, I actually picked up my dad from the airport. My mom and dad from the airport recorded the game. We both wanted to watch it and ended up just fast forwarding through most of it if we're being completely honest because it was like take me back to Italy.
It was one of the worst games I've ever seen a team play in a home opener, maybe in the past five years. Rick, talk at said in the post game that I don't think we want a single battle last night. It's true. I don't know what goes into that. I'll tell you what I'm just a Trevor Zegress. That guy doesn't care. The Jersey tuck has been really weighing on his mind. He couldn't think of anything else besides the Jersey. It's a distraction of the Jersey. Did you see Kevin B. X.X. explain how players are going to get away with it? No. It's really interesting. Actually, they're going to tuck. You take the fight strap and you like tuck it into your Jersey. That bunch is the Jersey up in the back. Tentingly, your Jersey isn't tucked. It's just folded up in the back. Why do you want it tucked? What's the difference? I get some people looks good, but does it actually feel different? Swag definitely swag is a part of it. Then I have a problem. Then we wouldn't get Gretzky. I don't mind it, but it's a rule.
It's a rule. Why is it a rule? That's my question. Why is it a rule? I don't know what I don't know. I never understood the tuck. I mean, I get that somebody will like it, but I never understood why it was so necessary. More aerodynamic. More aerodynamic. You guys can't pull on your Jersey. You're designed to slow you down. Exactly. Just take the Jersey off and play. Just come off with your tarp bars instead of broken glass. It's shirts and skins. Just coming over the board. It's got no tarp on. There you go. Shoulder pads. Wouldn't really do anything if you still have your equipment on. You could put it. What if it did make you faster, though? Anyway, this has nothing to do with anything. Yeah, I don't know. It's been a weird start to the season, be honest with you. Because Carolina and Florida go to one nothing overtime win. 15 shots. I didn't see that coming. I wonder if the shortened preseason. I don't want to say this already, but I just wonder if you're not itching to get after it anymore. You're like, oh, we're going. Here we go. And so, and you only had a game maybe two if you're a veteran.
So, I don't know, but that being said Pittsburgh got the same preseason. And they look sensitive. They should know it. I mean, they also have that little bit of of juice after losing them the postseason to them. You know, but they got dominating. You know what the embarrassing part is too is it wasn't the usual suspects for Pittsburgh. No, like it wasn't Crosby. I know it was guys got like one pole. Latang got one assist. But it was like the different. The newcomers, the breed, the new core that they don't, I mean, that's always be the core. But you understand what I'm saying? Like it wasn't the key guys like Crosby and Malka that we're getting three and four points. Yeah, Nick Robertson got two goals. Ville Klavenen who signed that eight year deal worth four mill after only playing a limited amount of games in the season. You know, Kyle Dubes will sit in the press box when he scored. He's just like, yes. I knew. I think what my point is, we might see this. Like I'm very fascinated by the Bruins and the Jets and what you're going to see, right? Because you have that seven nothing pumping. I didn't see Vancouver and Edmonton scoring 11 goals in the opening game either and going over time.
Like I said, Carolina and like Carolina and Florida, 15 shots on net on Florida. I want nothing shuttled. Did you see Rod Brandenmore's quote after the game? He goes, I love this quote. He goes, well, we definitely didn't grow the game tonight. That came was a great quote. No one was watching this one. Well, I tried to and I'm like, yeah, I'm going over the ass. And the asses were losing. That's how bad that hockey game was. I still watch it. No, it's been some choppy. You're 100% right with the short and preseason affecting things. Just teams like discombobulated. They just and not ready to go and not like out of the gate. I think that most of them are their body clocks are like, I mean, sorry. It's like a preseason game, right? First week of October and yeah, here we go and that. So I'm wondering, I'm fascinated by how the other teams I've played like, like the jets come out of the gate. And then, you know, the others can X go out again tonight. I mean, and it's in my score eight goals today. Well, we'll be the link and I mean, he stood on his head.
And Tristan Jari didn't, I mean, they both might score eight goals tonight. But I just think that's what's happening is a little dysfunction out of the gate. I know it's a thrashing, but I don't put too much weight into it. I still think Phil is a pretty good team. Look at the flyers. Well, maybe they're not going forward. Is it fair to judge them off of one game because there are a ton of people who are saying that, oh, it's time to tank for land and do pot now. We got absolutely smoke game one. But when you look that bad, there is something to it. And I wonder a little bit too. If sometimes when a team that's as young as the flyers, they get into the playoffs, they almost get this, okay, maybe we made it. You know, and there's this expectation that we're just a playoff team now. Yeah. And that's not the case. You got to earn your stripes every single season. You can't just rest on your laurels after one playoff run. And I wonder if them being a young team, they kind of have that mentality creep into their head a little bit. Yeah. Yeah, I don't, I mean, I'm not trying to know.
Sorry, but Rick talking said the same thing in his pregame. He didn't say, there was a question that was asked where someone had asked him, you know, what's the mood around this team? Are they just chomping at the bid or they're a little bit of nerves? And he just straight upset. It's been a mixed bag. Yeah. Well, there you go, right? That's what, you know, it's funny because you make the playoffs after a while. And then it's, I remember when, you know, the Jets went to the Western Conference final against Vegas in 2018. And then everyone in 2019, the Hawkeon, you said you're 2019, you're Stanley Cup champions. And they just could not. And it was much like last year, right? I mean, the top president, trophy winning team goes to the second round against Dallas. Here we go. And they could just not get going. So I think that, that's why yesterday when we were doing our predictions with the day before, we said like there's always a team or two that just under a cheese and doesn't get in. That was, should be in. There's always a team or two that gets in that really no one saw coming. But to be seven, nothing. Yeah, I, I don't know like I, I do think that that's seven, nothing though.
Like when you're down three, nothing and you can't get it going and then you're off on all aspects of it. I don't know. That's just like, that's, that's a sign of something that, you know, where, where is the pushback? It's never a good sign when 75% of the arena is gone by the third period. And the remaining 25% are just booing you relentlessly. The day thought was preseason two. It's early October. So like, I let's leave this preseason game. And though like, honey, this matters. Nick Eek laser, this stunning tour. The thoughts of death, I don't like to dwell on them for longer than like 10 or 15 hours a day. So. November 19th, Yamavath Theater. No wonder women rushed to have kids were being trained for it since we were kids. They're like, here's a baby doll. Here's an easy bake oven. I got one of those. I stuck my head in it. I was like, I want out of this narrative. Tickets on sale now at Yamavathether.com. Don't miss Nick Eek laser. Yamavath Theater.
