It should be the Ricky and JT You get top billing because you've been here for two weeks. You know, there's only a couple people out of call me Ricky Jill my mom. Yep Tom McDaniel. Yeah, he's called me Ricky and I think Forbes did a little bit too. So yeah, I get top billing man I'm a guest take care of your guests when I was called by my name at man

1:02I was in trouble if my dad ever called me Jeffrey Michael. I was I knew I was in big trouble. What are you drinking? I got a little 300 Milligrams of caffeine C4 baby C4 Let's go Well, we're gonna get fired up because we've got a lot to get to today week five high school football And let's just start off with our fresh game sugardale game of the week at 1480 WHBC Siamon cast on mix 94 1 Louisville at Hoover which brings back a lot of great memories some of the you know when it was the federal league back when you and I were in high school It was a key matchup wasn't it? Yeah, that was always a hell of a rivalry those two have played each other for a year So and it's always a big game over there ad Hoover. So it should be a great crowd great night for high school football And I think this should be a good game Donnie hurtler Paul Farah come to mind for me Yeah, you know they were great coaches one of the greatest games in high school that I ever witnessed was on the sideline I mean to tell you those two guys were calling it like they were the head coach of the Buffalo Bills

2:06What the loose field North came? Yes, yeah, yeah, it was outstanding. It's a big rivalry. It goes way back friends and family credit union streaming game of the week tonight On whbc sports.com Glen O'Kill Lake Glen Oaks having a tough time man Yeah, they are I mean I was really pleased with the higher I think coach Denderson's gonna do a great job there. He'll build a very build on what Coach Garcia had built over the years But you know they've been down a couple years. I know they got a young class There's a guy JT that we talked to at the gym that I think he's sons of freshman He's involved in the program at the junior high level, but he said they got a great class coming up So Denison's a winner. You know he's dead from the aernin Walsh University day, so yeah, I look for good things for them. They're not ready yet. They're not gonna win tonight my opinion, but I think there I think his goals of keep getting better each week It's got to be a tough position for Denison because when you're on the heels of a guy like Scotty Garcia Now there are a couple things come to mind for me

3:07It's when a coach gets like go or when a coach goes ahead and decides that it's time for him to retire Now we don't know exactly when I'm but we know that Scott Garcia left seems as though the cover wasn't very full of you ask me Yeah, they've been down a little bit. I mean, I obviously that's not why Scott left, you know He cares about that program as much as anybody whether he's there or not, but I don't know what's going on over there JT They got I think that they used to be the largest student body in Stardt County. They got great kids good athletes good families I don't know it's just over the years. They've just never really you know, they've had years Reading my son played over there. They they had a couple good runs ever beat McKinley, Mastlin The foxes were there. They had some games in the heart. I mean, they've had great players over there But you know, they just haven't had the consistency that I'm a Kenley or a Mastlin or some of these other schools have I think a lot of times it comes down to options and a kid in high school Maybe or maybe he doesn't want to play football and donate and you know put up all that time

4:09You know, I shouldn't say donate, but you know put forth all that time and energy into playing football because we had talked about the fact that you know What is the future of high school football really like if you're not a Mastlin if you're not a McKinley If you're not one of these programs that puts so much emphasis on winning and just you know having the culture I don't know what happens Yeah, I mean, it's hard For years again, I've always kind of and this is nothing personal against playing township or whatever I always just felt like Galano struggled a little bit to have any identity from a sports standpoint You know, I mean that yeah, it's kind of like going to a restaurant when you go to Baker's Cafe You're going there for a steak. Yeah, right when you think a Galano. What do you think of sports wise? I mean They've won baseball baseball, right? Mm-hmm. You don't think of football really You know, they got great track. Yeah, but you know, you know, I just the identity of who are we as a sports program? I never felt like

5:13They really stood out you know what it all comes to mind for me is the fact that when you're Glen oak and you butt up right against Canton City schools Yeah, and you've got kids that are maybe next door neighbors one place for Glen oak the other place for McKinley I think that makes it a little bit tougher to it's kind of like Perry and Maslan and it's like okay Perry. I'll have a good football season and all of a sudden Maslan You know ends up being Maslan and maybe a kid from Perry decides to be a tiger the following I'm not saying that they're recruiting them and you know or whatever But it seems as though Perry is always going to be a wrestling school And if you live over there in that western part of the Confer at Eric County and you want to play football You're going to want to go to Maslan Yeah, I mean Glen oak and you know, Canton City McKinley. They've shared kids forever. Yeah You know and some years they get some and some years McKinley get some and you know, so that's been going on For years, but again, I've always felt like they've had all the pieces there To really really be good and again when Scotty was there Garcia

6:15They had years where they were really really good Um, but I just don't feel like they had their bads are really bad, right? You know, I mean McKinley and Maslan they have down years and they're seven and three seven and four Galano has down years and they're one and nine Well, you know, it's kind of like Cleveland Browns once every eight years they make it to the postseason And then the rest of the time they're terrible. They're better the program's better than the Cleveland Brown Don't do that to people playing down you won't more than a minute Altman Health Foundation YouTube Game of the Week tonight are all my modern McKinley hosting Perry tonight Yeah, that should be uh that should be a Interesting game. I mean McKinley's played really good I actually think they played pretty well against St Ed's as well. They were up at halftime the early loss Their best offensive player didn't play First team all Ohio running back Kalim West or Kylam West so You know, I think McKinley's really good this year. I'm I'm not sold on Perry yet. They started out to know Yeah, and then they've lost to I know they've got a great young coach over there and he's coaching them up

7:19I think McKinley will be too much for him tonight Yeah, and you know again, you know, you're talking about week five We're pretty much knowing which each team is about you know what you have you know who you know Yeah, and if I'm a McKinley It's kind of like watching Ohio State versus Texas last week. I'd like to have caught them in week five instead of week two Yes, you know, for sure. Yeah, I mean that but Texas could be saying the same thing as well. Yeah, you know the other key Markey headline game tonight match up as Maslan at St. Ed's and my old stopping grounds at Bolton Wallace College University used to be a college Do they uh, I thought they had a home field like like with maybe they used to play at buyers field I think they had some problems due to a storm that blew through their last year But I mean finish stadium and trustful field is phenomenal I mean I played there for four years. It's outstanding the facility has held itself well The the turf has been replaced as everyone else has been too, but I mean you know it was One of the nicest stadiums and division three in the country back in the day and that you know

8:21You're talking 30 40 years ago and it still holds true to this day. That's a big good game again the Tigers You know, I'd be shocked if they don't beat them. I think Massens got one of or the only the best roster in the state of Ohio at least on paper. You still got to play the games right But Maslan certainly had seen as numbers number over the year so we'll see what happens But I like the Tigers tonight So the other games tonight Jackson, agree Northwest of Canton, South or Villifellus, Tussla, Treyway Central Catholic at Oberlin, Firelands Margaretta at St. Thomas, Aquinas Alliance at the Nerva, West Branch, Marlington, Tuskegee Valley, East Canton, Malvern It's Sandy Valley and Brian will have all those scores for you throughout the course of the night here at News Talk 1480 WHBC so we move on to week three college football and see double lane You know, we don't need to talk about the buckeye's that much although I want to get your idea of What you saw last week in the Texas game, but before we get to that The headline marquee matchup as far as I'm concerned in the SEC

9:24Ole Miss versus LSU Lane Kiffin Bowl will call it LSU a three and a half point favorite now my question concerning this game Is Lane Kiffin and I want your thoughts on this because I know you had a daughter that went to Alabama And what's the difference between what Lane Kiffin did Leaving Ole Miss going to LSU or What Nick Sabin did when he left LSU for Alabama Yeah, that's a good question. I mean, I think a lot of that's just the personality and the baggage that Lane Kiffin has created for himself over the years with all the jobs and the way leaves programs and whatnot So I can just tell you this that You know there's a there's a major difference between somebody Leaving within the conference at the end of the year you play your year out And then you make a decision and you move on and leaving your team In the throws of the NCAA playoffs the middle of the playoffs

10:26And you take another position. That's a night and day Nick Sabin would have never done that But who's the playing who offers? I mean if they come to you and say You know this is the offer and it's not going to be here next week. Maybe he had to make that call Yeah, well next Sabin would have said great. If you don't want to hold it for me, I'm not taking it Nick Sabin's got seven trophies in his trophy case. You asked the difference. Yeah. Yeah Lane Kiffin he should have manned up and said no if you want me and these are my kids I've got them in the playoffs. This is what I'm doing and if you want me you'll wait for me But guys favored over 50 tomorrow morning at Kent State comes to town They're making 1.9 million dollars to be there That's all we need to really talk about as far as Ohio State and Kent State this week But what did you see last week? You know, I want to get your opinion as a former quarterback in college as well On what you see forget about Ryan Day for a second forget about being conservative on offense Maybe conservative on defense as well. I want to know what you see when you look at julian sand Um Jesus you want me to forget about everything um, I would say julian sand's an accurate quarterback

11:31I think he reads defenses from what I can tell he gets the team in the right play um I think like anybody that has a world class receiver Having played the position. I'm gonna be looking for that guy And then you have a tendency though that that's all you're looking at So what that does in that creates you know some problems because there's other guys that are running wide open and you're still trying to Get to the guy to to make a play and you're not You're not thinking through that you're just kind of like I know if I get the ball in this direction This guy's probably gonna make a play. I think he's extremely accurate. I do think that Uh, I think he's a great college quarterback. I think that You know, there are a couple games where he took some heat against Miami Uh, last year in the playoffs that what that pick six that he had wasn't on him um, you know, and and I think Jeremiah Smith acknowledged that so You know, I think he's a solid solid, you know college quarterback

12:32And I think he's doing all the right things if I was advising him though I would you know, make sure that you know, I'm looking elsewhere. Yeah, particularly big game Matter of fact, I was surprised actually that Jeremiah Smith was even open I mean if you're trying to stop somebody Why aren't you jamming him with the line of scrimmage and making him throw to the other guys? I mean he was just running free off the line of scrimmage I'm happy with him. We'll see what happens again, you know You're never as good as they say you are never as bad as you say they are You know, we know what they have his backups. There's no comparison of my mind So weren't there no need even have that discussion. I think you can win national title with them The question is this when you look at a college quarterback to be a great college quarterback A lot of us think you've got to be a dull threat. Yeah, we see Lincoln kind holes ends up at Louisville And ends with up Over a hundred yards rushing in two weeks and leading the carnels to a game that they lost last week But everybody's now starting to have second thoughts about it But then again, I look back and say

13:32You weren't good enough to beat out Julian saying you're not good enough to be here And let's see what you can do at Louisville. Yeah, I mean, I don't think you're ever going to see another Joe Burrow situation where a guy is going to transfer from Ohio State and go to another power five conference Inwent a national title that's not Lincoln kind holes But I know there's a lot of people talking about it. I want to ask you about pocket awareness And should you be a dull threat quarterback because Julian saying had negative seven yards rushing last week And if the passing game was shut down in the second half which it was Should he have maybe tried to take off or is that just not part of his game? I don't think it's part of his game Answer your question. No, I do think having a dual threat quarterback Can I mean that strategically not you know Runner first like the kid at Michigan. He's a running back. Okay, that place quarterback Okay, that's that's not gonna win long term But I it is helpful that you need a quarterback that that can move Enough to move the chains when you need to you don't need a quarterback that you have to rely on him

14:37To improve your run game. That's not his problem We got running backs there. We got offensive line Highest state needs to be able to run the football right exactly But and that's a whole another But he does they do in the NFL too. Yeah, but your quarterback Hey, if your dual threat and you're enough that you have a threat of running remember cj Stroud would never run ever like he was Anti-running finally in the bowl game against Georgia started running and he went from you know 20th pick projected in the draft to five Yeah, but the problem with that is we don't know if that came from above was that a coaching decision Because he runs in the NFL now too. It's weird and it really makes you wonder what's going on Thank you very much So since we're talking about quarterback anyway, and since the buck eyes game tomorrow is is basically Non-relevant. 15:39I think the media has this Expectation that I'm supposed to throw 400 yards and five touchdowns every week. So Said that happens. I guess it's going to be the same same situation. So again, I'm out my job is to make sure I'm up Pretty well so we can try to get a win and and keep moving forward from that now This is from two days ago and keep this in mind because an unnamed NFL general manager told reporter Jason Conforra that Watson appears to be Testing how long the Browns will keep him as the starter Watson will keep playing like and it said exploitive To see how fast they'll pull him He's calling their bluff numerous league sources have indicated to the locker room has already been lost over the stunt Players on the roster are over the constant drama. So Based on what he says they're taking a shot at media members and knowing what we know that he said after the I think it was shot at the fans the last the fans the last preseason game versus Buffalo

16:40What do you do with this guy? Oh, man that horse is out of the barn. I know what I do. So But they've gone in different direction. I don't It's inexplicable. I mean when they named it in the starter and we went through all that stuff Well, we knew it to begin in the year You know, the worst thing that happens to this guy his plays awful, but his press conferences are even worse I mean This guy is the big it has the biggest victim mentality. I've ever seen of a professional athlete I mean he just comes on and he gets it goes against the media No, Dishon we don't want 400 yards and three touchdown. Let's just start with a win. Let's just win a game Okay, and we keep baby in this guy and treating him like he's You know a second year third year bow nicks and you know, we're willing to throw with skies played five eight What five six seven eight years he's been terrible with the browns terrible and people keep saying why he's only had a couple games and he's always getting Rattles always getting back in shape. He always needs to work the rust off

17:44He needs just if I if I'm that guy's advisor. I'd say go out and play football don't do any more press conferences stay away from the media Quit dog in the fans play the game and let the chips fall where they made the fact that the browns They in my mind. I think the reason they don't like shoe doors. They think he's a distraction He can't possibly be no more distraction than this guy The report continues to say something to the effect that Dishon Watson never wanted to be here It doesn't want to do so I mean if that's the case then obviously we know we look at it and say okay The $230 million guaranteed contract is the reason he's here So you can't get out from under it because of the salary cap issues They can't get out from under it until Whatever happens on a May 1st or a June 1st whatever that is but I mean you're stuck with it unless They can basically do like the Texans did his final year in Texas Where they pay him to stay away from the team. So what I'm thinking is this if Dylan Gabriel comes back from this pup list or whatever it is

18:46is the injured list All of a sudden you can go ahead then and bench Dishon Watson and then maybe keep him away from the facility because you're not going to go into this thing Without at least three quarterbacks. I was shocked that they kept for but they've got literally three Because of this rookie that they've got that they don't know what they want to do with but they don't want to put them on a practice squad Because they're afraid somebody's gonna take him this tail in green You know, I think that's uh, that's interesting um That if that when they bench him who wants to take anybody from the brown when they If you're on the browns practice squad the worst team in the NFL really you can't play for the brown That's my point. I don't want you but my point is um to to your point if they bench him when they bench him If it were me and they're probably considering that let's just put him on the shelf right just We don't want you to lock a room your distraction. We don't want you talking to me. Just stay home Right. Yeah, and then Gabriel comes back you make him the backup the young guy greens the 13th or so

19:49He's away from the lockers over we can't get rid of you yet. Yep financially. Just stay away How in the world if he's your starter And barring some crazy. I think they're an eight point underdog and you and I are gonna pick all the NFL games later on And have a one-on-one competition How the world can you start this guy if you come home after what he said about the media members and based on what he said about the fans How in the world can they start a week three against Carolina? It won't happen No chance unless he just really did something special Sunday which chances are that won't won't happen There's no chance they can start that guy and I really think the more I'm hearing that I think munkin I think this is munkin's decision. I thought forever. It was how's i'm saying hey look He's on a roster. He's healthy. We've paid the guy. Let's take one last shot See what happens. I really believe that munkin made his decision before the Buffalo scrimmage And I don't think he had any idea of The fan reaction and how bad it was until he got in that game

20:52And I think he probably set back and went holy moly here. We got this is not good But he'd already made his decision. Well the conspiracy theorists And you know everything they look for and what they're talking about in Cleveland today on all the sports talk shows is the fact And I already mentioned Nick Sabot and if you're if you're The Haslam sports group and you're looking at this and they've got a history with the manning family It's pretty much a foregone conclusion and everybody thinks or everybody knows up there that he wants archmanning But he also might want to pull Nick Sabot out of retirement not saying as a coach maybe as some form of a I don't know management general manager You know or whatever have some kind of football operation whatever you want to call Ryan type deal in any your wildest imagination The is there ever a world where Jimmy Haslam ends up getting Nick Sabon to come back to Cleveland remember he was there with Bella check we fired him both

21:54And he comes back and directs this team under archmanning when they open up the new stadium in three years I don't know I haven't heard that one. I mean next turned down a lot of you know It's been a lot of rumours since Nick retired It seems like he's comfortable what he's doing I think it's more well first of all we've talked about this I don't if I'm the as smart as the manning Family as relative to football. Okay, we talked about this I don't think under any circumstance if arch has a great year in the Browns finish How we think they're gonna finish and they end up with the first pick and arch is gonna be the guy I can't imagine he doesn't go back to Texas who wants to be a Browns quarterback They won't send in there. I'm telling you gotta start the clock though You've got to get the clock going on the next 50 million dollar contract because even though there's an I am College football you're not making anything nearly as much as a quarterback in the NFL especially if you're first round pick You're talking about a difference in the first round If you're a top pick if you're number one overall pick you're talking six to ten million anyway

22:56Why would you want to go back to Texas for two million football graveyard JT football graveyard Would you want to be the quarterback the Cleveland Browns ever Ever years away from a 50 million or more dollar contract? I don't that's I don't think that's right The clock let's go we need it. I don't think that drives it now But what's more likely not Nick Saban, but maybe has him if he's that close with the family Then we go ahead and get arched And then we get Eli's football operations or patent football operations and it about you know Archie chairman of the board. I mean you have to hold damn family. Well, maybe that's just it I mean obviously there's a connection there with the family going back to Tennessee right yeah So it'll be interesting to see you know what direction they're gonna take and I don't know I mean you hear the stories and you know it makes sense because archmaning is let's face it if there's a golden More if there's a if there's a picture of the face of college football it's archmaning don't do it arch Don't do it.
