Jake Moody coming in to go alongside Tyler Loop will have a different conversation about that than what we've had in the last day or so on. It will also talk about the Ravens practice squad continuing to take shape. Not completely done yet, but some moves have happened. I just want to talk about the guys in general as well who are on there and what they could mean for the Ravens this season. But in the first part of the show, some Ravens trade conversations that emerge on a specific

2:08player who's become very popular in Baltimore. We will talk about who that is and what it potentially means, both short term and long term. Here to that, we hear today it is for a Baltimore Ravens Wire receiver. People champion, Codry is my L and Q. I am very excited that the season is less than two weeks away. It feels like forever that we've been waiting for this team to step back on the football field in a meaningful football game. And you know, in less than two weeks, it will be Lamar Jackson, Eric Henry, Kyle Hamilton, Indianapolis, do one their thing. It's so weird. I think there are phases of the year, the calendar year where you sit back and say, oh my god, it's dragging along. My can't go faster. Then I'm standing boom, it's here. And you're like, wow, it's going too fast. Slow down, slow down, slow down. So yeah, we got through the preseason. We were able to see what was with this Ravens ball club.

3:12We've been thinking about the offensively, crushed it offensively, ruined, still some, you know, concerns. I don't think there's any team out there of the 32 teams that are perfect and everything is just fine and splendid. But the rarest season. It's like right around the corner. And there'll be more jockeying for a position to see who's going to be on what team the roster is really or never fully complete. So to speculate and say that it is would be premature. Like we got cue speculating in the first three minutes of lockdown, right? This is a milestone. This is incredible. But man, I'll tell you what cue, what is not speculation and what has been reported by Jesserbake of the athletic was certain trade conversations surrounding the Baltimore Ravens and other teams about one of the Ravens. The young players that emerged over the course of the offseason. And so I want to talk about that with you here.

4:12Obviously Joe Fignano took Baltimore by storm over the course of the last handful of weeks. He a thousand percent earned his 53 man roster spot. But Jesserbake was on the Baltimore collective and he revealed some interesting facts about kind of the situation surrounding Fignano leading up to roster cut down day and throughout the last dot. I don't know. I'm not sure on the exact timeline of it, but Jeff's rebake on the collective. He was talking about Fignano in the situation. So Jesserbake said, quote, Fignano was going to get claim. They had multiple teams call. There was offers on the table form at least trade interest. I don't think it was ever serious interest where they got a legitimate pick. But there were at least three teams that I know of that called and were interested in potentially acquiring him. So if you're interested in potentially acquiring him, you're surely going to put a waiver claim on him. And then Chris stylized the decision for them and then Jeff noted a little bit later. He said, quote, I felt like there was an openness to trade them if you got a decent deal.

5:12So interesting conversations there, Q, especially considering, you know, how good Fignano looked first of all. And it doesn't surprise me that teams were calling on Joe Fignano. I mean, there are a lot of teams out there that either need a backup quarterback. Some teams need starting quarterbacks, but that's beside the point. I do think that Fignano would be very valuable as a QB2 for a lot of different teams or at least another developmental QB3 option. And you know, I wouldn't have shocked me if the Ravens had gotten an offer and they felt like it was too good to pass up because realistically, Fignano was not going to have a role in Baltimore as long as Lamar Jackson is the starter. But I think the bigger conversation with Fignano Q is longer term, you know, could you see him as a potential backup to Lamar Jackson? And maybe Tyler Huntley's the one that ends up leaving. That's I think what people are talking about the most right now. But again, for me, it doesn't shock me at all what Jeff is saying here. I'm sure that their word teams interested is Jeff noted and there is good reason why

6:14based off I played. Tyler is talent is talent. Observation and recognizing said talent is pretty much what NFL speculating non speculators like to do. In other words, it's doubts and the GMs and their department. They basically are just looking at guys and saying, okay, this is the film. This is what they did. Oh, he can do this. He can't do that. All right. This is what I see and how he was able to, well, let's give him a look. Okay, how can he assimilate what they look like in college? All of the picture of putting together this profile of said player. Fignano went in and broke that mold. He pretty much was a guy that evaluated, but there's no one telling me that, oh, yeah, we knew he could do this. He had to go out there and prove it, which he did.

7:17Did an amazing job of it with his accuracy, the way he was in rhythm of the offense, and he executed. Now, I'm the breaks when you're talking about him and Tyler Huntley. For Tyler, it is a situation where he's had real game time experience. That preseason game, we're talking game time experience. All the game planning and everything and what that entails can Joe do it, of course, but we don't know to what extent you have a strong resume of what we see in Tyler Huntley and what he can do has the starting quarterback of a set team. This particular case, the backup for the Baltimore Ravens when the starter, Joe Flacka, or Joe Flacka. Carter Lamar Jackson got her or sick basically Tyler went in and was able to do an effective

8:18job. Now, big picture wise, see, this is just you just put me into a trap here because here's what you want me to do. You want me to say, next off season, they got a salary cap issue and oh, well, I'm going to go to the bar. What if he does go ahead and resize? Well, it's a big chunk of salary that's going to be taken up. Senyano would be perfect. I don't give a rip van Winkle because it doesn't matter. This is now, we're still in 26. So just happy he's on a team and if he ain't on a team, he's going to get a trade offer and he'll get a draft pick. And then you can like, oh, my God, look who we got. We got a draft pick. Those compensatory picks didn't work out so well this year either. K.O. I mean, okay, well, look, since you were so kind to bring it up, Q, I will add more context

9:18to your Tyler Huntly, Joe Fignano situation where this year, it actually does not make sense to cut Tyler Huntly and they did not because they would lose money about $1.2 million. Sorry, $1.4 million. But next off season, Q, look, we haven't even played a snap. We're already talking about next off season. I know what's your favorite thing to do. We can't even talk about it. Well, we just got to add the context though. We just got to do it real quick. The Ravens could save $1.5 million by releasing Tyler Huntly next off season. So just some food for thought potentially depending on how things go and how the Ravens feel about Joe Fignano. But Q, I do want to talk about something else that Jeff mentioned because he did say about the Fignano situation quote after the game last Friday night, after the preseason's finale, it'd become pretty clear that he earned his way on the team. But as you're making the pieces fit and you're trying to stick to this 25, 25, 3 roster building model, I think you're trying to find the one spot on offense. Then he also talked about a couple of other things I want to get to in the second part of the show. But I mean, to you, was there any doubt that Fignano was going to make the roster or did

10:20you feel like he played well enough and despite the fact that you already have the March action in Tyler Huntly, like you said, talent is talent. You got to keep it. The only thing that I was looking at was the fact that you do have two really competent quarterbacks and the Ravens don't typically keep three guys. So the history of it was where I was like, yeah, you know what? I just don't see it. Now it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. Clearly, they went away from their traditional, hey, here's how we're going to do it. I think bigger picture wise when it comes down to it, the more from a quarterback standpoint, you have to leverage to get other picks. When you have a franchise guy like the March action, it's to your benefit.

11:20John Wolfe, Green Bay Packers, General Manager, kind of way back in my day was the one who set the tone with getting guys like a Mark Brunel way back in my day that wound up being a franchise quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but spent time underneath Brett Barr with the Green Bay Packers. So Fignano, Matt, you just don't know what will go on in the year for another team that can potentially have quarterback issues that now gains leverage for this front office. Yeah, yeah. I mean, there are a lot of good things that Baltimore can do with Joe Fignano and they're in a really good spot quarterback wise from the star quarterback to the backup to the third string guy. Way to quite a quarterback room in Baltimore right now coming up though in the second part of the show, we'll be diving into more conversations about Joe Fignano and also talking about

There are a couple of other context things with the Joffaniano situation that I do want to dive into the Jeff's Rebeck noted and I actually think they're very good points. It's something I haven't been thinking about a little bit as well, but Jeff I think put it really well over on the collective. So Jeff said quote, having an developmental quarterback on your roster, you have the flexibility on game days. He's not going to count toward the active, but he is available in emergency three. That is important.

15:28I think having that guy if he stays with you and keeps progressing and prevents you from having to use a fifth or a sixth round pick on the next Devon Leary or trace mix sorely. And then he noted also quote, what happens if it's really needs a quarterback? What happens if a team is desperate and wants to get a look at a young quarterback over the course of a couple games. And suddenly you could be looking at a fifth round pick for him or a decent draft bait because a team was really impressed with him in the summer and they're looking for a guy to come in and take some snaps. That's an interesting part of it too where you know it's again, it's a speculation. I know I'm doing it to you a lot early here on this show, but like. That's something that is not is not a bad point is not a bad point, especially. You know, if you could get some level of value and teams are willing to maybe give you more at the trade deadline or something during the season because they are desperate. That's a big thing, but I do think there is value in keeping him for the long term and seeing who becomes as well. Yeah, you know, I think part of Declan's offense. And just what Jesse was talking about is that D were development, getting young talent to

16:35be coached up. We saw it as far as, well, we heard it from some of the veteran players that have been there for a while and where they talked about, you know, previous Christian compared to current state of affairs and how they were coached. But yeah, a lot of the teaching, a lot of the details and figuring out how to be a better player for Fignano. This is a great spot for him to be in and that development factor matters greatly when you're talking about the quarterback position. Yeah, it's a big deal. It's a big deal. So I think that the Ravens won made the right decision by keeping Joffaniano in the roster and two, there are a lot of different options for how everything could unfold with him overall. But Q the Ravens roster officially set Joffaniano on that roster obviously, but the practice squad, I'm really impressed with Baltimore's practice squad here and what they've been able to do with it. You're able to retain, really retain a lot of the key guys that they released.

17:38The only guy that leaves is Cory Bullock. You know, there are a couple of other situations that they could look at here as well as, you know, pieces are fluid and moving around and whatnot. But overall, you know, getting back Rayshaun Benny, getting back Adisa Isaac, you know, getting back a lot of these guys that I wasn't really sure we're going to pass through waivers. It is a really big deal. You know, there was obviously news on Monday that sorry, Tuesday, I'm getting my days mixed up on Tuesday that Robert Longerbeam is going to fill Adolfia. The Ravens also fill out their final two practice squad spots. Is actually we got breaking news you and I is we got word a couple of hours ago that offensive tackle AJ or Kuri is going to fill one of the Ravens practice squad spots. But we also just got word from Jess Rebeck about time we're recording this 20-ish minutes ago that the Ravens are using their final practice squad spot on veteran tight end Nick Venet.

18:40He's 33, he spent a lot of time with the Seahawks. So he's interesting. How do you like this practice squad so far, Q? And I mean, look now, I guess, what the breaking news is done now, but the Ravens 17 guys on their practice squad. And it feels like it was kind of best case scenario outside of Kuri Bullock being lost that they're able to get a lot of these guys back. Well, I mean, I think practice squad there might be two or three players that you could say, yeah, you're just not going to see the field. And that's just the way it is. But practice squad players like in a decent Isaac, you're not going to put yourself in position that you know what, I might be playing. And you can't sit back and be casual about it. Like you legit have to be mindful of

19:41I might be playing. And by doing so, you put yourself in position where you're helping your teammates get better, you're you know clearly trying to build up yourself to the point where you can, you know, get on the active roster. If an injury occurs, that's what you're sliding in. Practice squad, unlike years prior, was just, all right, you're on the practice squad, yeah, good for you. Now, especially teams and or the way you're, you know, your position group might be playing not as good as expected or want it or see that could be a wash. There's so much that can go on in the practice squad. Those 16 players, I mean, that's vital. So kudos to those young men who put themselves in position to get on the practice squad. Got like a, you know, Dom Deluca.

20:45Like again, you just don't know what can go on. And you very well might be in the thick of the battle. So you could very well be balling out too. And nothing going on, but then another team having some issues, they claim you. And now you are playing on Sundays, some big time, big boy football. So guys like him, they just can't sit back and relax and say, I yeah, I'm gonna practice yeah, me. No, this is, this is the beginning of the potential for more good to help you advantage your career. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think it is a really big deal, especially when, you know, just the way the practice squad has changed over the last handful of years, for sure, is a really big deal. Because again, it gives more guys opportunities to prove themselves, make a name for themselves, become key parts of a team like, oh, that's really, really true. And, you know, like,

21:48they're probably like special teams wise. Yeah, like that's a huge deal. Like that's how you kind of that's how you establish yourself sometimes. You know, it's one of the things that when Jesse Miner talked about Ethan Burke, you know, obviously he was very complimentary of him in terms of, you know, his ability on defense, what is able to do, but talked about one of the big reasons why I made the roster is because of the work he did on special teams. And so if you're a practice squad guy, you know, building up that on special teams, giving yourself a reputation and just, you know, injuries are going to happen. And you're right. Like these guys do have to be like, you got to be prepared to play. You got to be prepared to play. And even more so than ever now, but the way the practice squad is now coming up though, we have to keep talking about the kicker conversation is one of the guys on the practice squad is a kicker in Jake Moody, who is obviously in the room now with Tyler Loops, so we should estate team, but it coming up here unlocked on Ravens. 24:55In that win, obviously title loop struggled from consistency standpoint from 50 plus yards. Jake Moody is the kicker that they did bring in and you know has had some consistency issues on his own. Did finish the year strong last year with Bull Chicago and Washington. But I mean, you asked the San Francisco 49ers fan about him. You're not going to get a very pleasant response about about Jake Moody because third around pick, a lot of high expectations coming out of Michigan, which by the way, Jesse Monser and Jake Moody overlapped it Michigan. So I know we talked about it on the squad show a little bit, but you know, how surprised are you that the Ravens did actually go about this path and add whether you want to call it competition and kicker help, whatever it may be, go the route of adding a kicker on their practice squad after having not done it over the course of training camp and the rest of the else. So here's my thing. Pressure either makes your diamonds or is going to burst a pipe. I thank for Jake to come in at this point in time. It's just putting as much

26:01pressure as you can on Tyler. They thought that they were in the river mirror with Tyler as far as you know, whatever happened last year and let last year be last year, but five of eight, the being that you're best for your best is needed. Then you look at again 50 is a new 30. I don't know if we're going to put pressure on him, but the seasons are right here. We got to figure this thing out. And I think if he made all his kicks in the preseason finale, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I think because he had those misses and the preseason finale outside of 50 brings it into the discussion. Jake Moody now has to feel the pressure of like, oh, I can do this and yeah, Tyler is like looking over his shoulder, but that's the only way you can do it. Like, I can't

27:03stop practice multiple times to have Tyler kick, whereas I sure can have Jake there taken necessary time to get the holder to help him out, to get the law snapper to get rhythm. Why are we taking away? Because you didn't make your kicks. There's some pressure there. There's some pressure. And let's see how it unfolds and unravels in this 10 day period of time before, yeah. You look at what's going to go on in Indianapolis. Yeah, you know, Jason Merritt did give a vote of confidence to Tyler loop and you know said that he does expect Tyler to be the kicker essentially, but you know, also kind of, we'll notice a little bit saying how we'll see how things shake out kind of things along those lines and look, they wouldn't assign Jake Moody to the practice squad. If they felt 100% confident in Tyler and he can go out there and do his thing. Now, again, I still

28:06think they believe in Tyler. I don't think this is a move that's like, oh, you're out of here. Get on out. No, I mean, I think that hopefully this will push both guys. Jake can push Tyler. Tyler can push Jake and, you know, it can hopefully be a good dynamic, but again, you're not signing a kicker to your practice squad and using a spotup on a kicker on your practice squad, if you feel 100% all good with, you know, what's going on at your kicker spot. So that's another thing here as well. But, Kewa, I did want to ask you this. I'm going to put you on the spot just a little bit. Just a little bit. I was I was asked this question over on the radio, one of five seven, the family, Bob Hayden, and Vinnie Sarato. And they asked me on a scale of one to 10, or you can use, you can use any scale. They want to just use one to 10. What's your confidence level personally in Tyler loop right now? If you want to use one to 10, you can. If you want to just give a word, how are you feeling about Tyler right now? All things considered preseason has rookie year last year, heading into this season. What would your confidence level be? Well, I think going into the preseason,

29:10I would have said a nine on a scale of 10 being he is Adam Benetari, slash Justin Tucker type flow and confidence. One being Billy Cundiff up in New England. So there's my scale. I would have given it a nine right now. Outside of 50, 50 plus I give them around five. Inside of 47 and in, I would say now I will give them or going into the season 10.

30:13See what we're seeing now? Probably 8.5. So I'm confident, but boy, okay, thank you. For most Tyler, let's do this. That type of confidence. That's not giving me the vote of confidence. Let's try to heck him or not, you're a huge, huge man, a beat the man. Let's go. Prove to be a long type thing. Yeah, I mean, I have a lot of confidence in Tyler's talent. To me, it's not a talent issue for Tyler. He has the leg. We've seen him do it from, I guess not 50 plus. You were kind of talking about her 48 or 49 or whatever, maybe. But it's a big, I just think there's a couple of mental hurdles he has to get over. That's kind of my read on the situation. For what it's worth, my answer was on the radio, I said six. So I guess we're kind of on the same page and on the same way, like a little bit there, Q, but it is just going to be matter of like if the first month comes and goes and there

31:14are still these consistency issues, like now there is somebody on the practice squad that you now know and he'll have time, yes, to work with Nick Moore to work with Brian Eccleod to figure out cadences and everything in situations. But you know, it's, I'm cautious, cautious about the situation with Tyler Luke. Because again, I think the talent is there, but you know, if you can hit the kicks and practice at the kicks and warmups, you can't do it during the games, you know, obviously the games are what matters and that's what's important. And like we've talked about, you know, 60 is a new 50, 50 is a new 40. You got to be able to hit those kicks from distance with ease now because there are a lot of kickers doing them across the league. He has the leg to do it. But can you just do it in the games?
