Press Access Is a Privilege, Not a Right

I want to talk today about this story, the development about what's happening between Trump and the media regarding the first amendment. We've got the media now suing Trump for revoking media access to the White House, specifically

3:16Let's talk about this today. The media has sued Trump, the Trump administration for restricting access, actually revoking access to the White House grounds, revoking the access of CNN, political and MS now. And the other media has gotten together and says this can't stand. This is a this is a front to the first amendment. Let me first read for you the White House's response. This is posted at their website again. You'll be able to get access to these links in the inner circle, which goes out every evening and you can read this stuff for yourself. But here I'll get into this as much as I can today. White House response. Here's the headline White House access is a privilege. Not a right. We talked about this yesterday. We talked about the right of the press. Remember what is a right?

4:17Let's back up just a half a step here. A right is something that you have been given by your creator, by God himself, to be able to freely exercise. A right is not something that is contingent upon someone else giving you anything. A right is something you have by being a human being. These rights extend to all people. The founders acknowledge this. The United States government did not create this. The rest of the world has it whether or not their government's respected or not. These are things that you have by virtue of being a human being made in the image of Almighty God. And so just for example, you can have your own thoughts. You can have your own opinions. You can have your own beliefs. You can exercise those beliefs. That's part of what it means to have the freedom of religion. You have the right to exercise those beliefs. You can't exercise beliefs that infringe upon someone else's life, liberty, property,

5:20or pursuit of happiness. But you can exercise your beliefs because you have God given rights. By the way, the first job of the government, you could say there's two first responsibilities to secure the rights and to protect the citizens from forces that could threaten their existence and their lives and property and that sort of thing. So and that could take the form, of course, of law and order domestically and national defense externally. But this is a right is something that you get from God. You don't depend upon someone else for it. This is why health care. Listen, I get it. There's a lot of good things and I want to be clear on this. There's a lot of good things out there that we as a society could strive for. But to call them a right is a misnomer. That is not correct in many cases. I don't want to quantify because I don't know off the top of my head how many things are

6:22technically rights that someone might bring up and how many things are technically privileges are just good things to pursue as a free society as a nation. Health cares of course a good thing. We want people to be able to have good health. That's a good thing. In fact, if you read the preamble of the Constitution, you'll see that the government says it's there in part. Our government is there in part to promote the general welfare of its citizens. That's a good thing. But it is not some of these things are not rights. You can't say that some other person because they have the training and the skill set and the divine gifting, I guess, they have to force to meet a need that I have. That's not a right. Now in a free enterprise system, someone could say I'm willing to trade that right or trade that your desire to receive care for me for a certain price.

7:25Well, we don't really have that in our health care system. People lack like it's free markets running our health care system. That's not the case there at all. I don't want to get into that at this moment. But the point is there are rights and there are privileges. Rights are things that you have. So for example, again, you have these innately because God has gifted you with them being part of his creation. It's kind of just baked into your DNA. You have the freedom of speech, which means you can express your thoughts. I told you that you have the rights to your own opinions. You can disagree with this show. I would encourage you to do that with very, very, well, do so very, very cautiously. Exercise extreme caution if disagreeing with this program. But you have a right to your own ideas. You have a right to think that socialism is good. That doesn't mean that it is objectively true. So you go through all these things as people, we have the right to have those ideas. We have a right to express those ideas. We have a right to petition our government. If they are taking us in a direction that goes against what we believe is true, you can

8:31petition, you can protest. You can't then turn your protest into a riot. That's no longer a right. That's not even a privilege. That's an abuse of your freedom to be able to then say I'm protesting, but I'm going to impede the free movement of other people blocking streets, try to prevent them from doing what they feel as though they should do and so forth. I have a right to protect myself, right? I don't have the right to aggressively be the provocateur. I don't have the right to murder, but I have the right if my life is in jeopardy to defend my life by using force that would stop someone from doing that up to and including lethal force, my friends. This is again, this leads to the right to keep and bear arms. I can use the tools available to me to protect my life and my family and so forth.

9:33So I have the right. I don't want to go through all of them, but you get the idea. But then there are also privileges. For example, I have the right to travel. I don't have the right to have a license to operate a vehicle. The government can set certain requirements as to who has the, who has qualified demonstrated their qualification for operating an automobile. I have the right again to move about freely, but I don't have the right to, to, to say, operate a vehicle. If I'm 14 years old and I haven't reached an age where the state has decided that person is qualified, they have the capacity to be able to manage a vehicle safely on the roadways and so forth. So there's privileges and there are rights. And then there are things that we just want to pursue as a society, which you wouldn't necessarily say are a privilege or a right, but you can say that they are good things.

10:33But again, it's not necessarily. And in most cases, it's not the case that it is government's job to provide that and then have someone else pay for something that you want. Those are not rights, my friend. So the White House addresses this specifically, getting back to the issue at hand here, the first amendment and so forth. Here's the headline of this, I guess, press release. White House is a, access is a privilege, not a right. Last week, President Donald J. Trump removed CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House grounds after years of false reporting. Now there's a link here. There's a link here inside this press release and it takes you to MRC newsbusters. Again, this will be in the stack of stuff in the inner circle if you want to go through this in more detail. But it says this CNN and MSNBC have cited falsified statistics 73 times over the last 24 hours. This is a link to a something written by Bill Dugestino.

11:40That's how I pronounce it. I don't know. August 12th, it's of 2025. And basically it gives a summary, says here, Liberal cable news networks, CNN and at the time it was MSNBC have been citing fabricated statistics in an attempt to debunk President Trump's claims on Monday about rampant crime in Washington, DC over the past 24 hours, these two networks have cited the dubious statistics over 70 times while refusing to acknowledge that a DC police official was suspended for tampering with those stats just months ago. By the way, I just side note, I have to wonder when we're relying upon stats from our government. You have to wonder how much of the shenanigans are actually happening, how many things are being reported? What is the real crime? I mean, do we even know? I know on the one hand, you can say, well, these are the reported numbers. But on the other hand, you think these are people who have shown us time and time again, just like this, that at least some of them, some of them are inclined.

12:45I would say all people are, I would say tempted to protect themselves, but you have a position, one in the position of authority, who is, say, held accountable by the public for lowering crime statistics, crime rates. There's certainly a temptation there. If they're controlling the data to not give you the true numbers, right? Whatever that looks like, either they directly doctor them, they put pressure on people working in their departments, not to classify things a certain way and so forth. There's a hundred ways we could get there, but there's certainly a temptation. So anyway, I don't want to get into this. I'm just saying this is what the White House has cited as an example of years of false reporting. The First Amendment going back to this press release here from the White House protects their right to publish. It does not entitle them to a hard past briefing room, seat or place in the press pool. They must have been listening to this program yesterday. My friends, I don't blame them if they did. That's exactly what we said here.

13:47You have a right. No, I said yesterday on this program, you do not have anyone here that's restricting, preventing any of these lunatics from in the media, from producing or publishing a story. They're not having to get things approved by the Trump administration. No one's saying that they can't publish it. What they're doing is they're saying, listen, we have a limited number of available seats in the press pool, in the briefing room. You have demonstrated time and time again that you are interested in only or at least disproportionately producing stories that are factually false. How many times must we see an example of this happening before we say you're not a serious news outlet? You are coming to these press briefings with the intent of misrepresenting what's actually

14:49being said. You can have whatever opinion you want. We're not trying to stop you from publishing it, but you are not doing the service of true journalism out there. You are actually out there reporting fake news. You're exactly who President Trump has said that you are. We're going to give this to people who actually want to do reporting, who actually want to, of course, present the other side. Question what we're telling you. Have had it, but don't make stuff up. You begin again, you're not a journalist. We're beyond journalism though. Yesterday I talked about the difference between journalism and commentary or journalism and editorializing. I'm not a journalist. I've said that on here. I don't claim to be a journalist. I've had press credentials. I can remember once because I'm in media. I don't think that that necessarily, that's just, I'm in the commentary side of media.

15:49I'm not in strictly reporting journalism news media. That's not what I do. I tell you what I think. I'm actually trying to persuade you to reach a certain conclusion because I believe it. I think that that's important. I think that this nation was built upon ideas. I think that if we deviate from those ideas far enough, if we venture too far away from those ideas, if it is, in fact, the ideas that made this country great, embracing them, living them, pursuing them, if we stop doing those things, if the ideas are what led us to greatness, then it only stands to reason that deviating from said ideas will then lead to a reduction in American greatness. That by the way is the root of Trump's campaign positioning, which was, of course, make America great again. It's just one component of it, right? When you look at the media and how it impacts it, there's one particular battle front,

16:49one area that we're fighting this, but we're fighting this all over the place. We're fighting this in the classroom and in colleges. We're fighting this in woke businesses. We're fighting this in entertainment. Right? Mackle more out there talking about free Palestine and the narrative of the extreme radical left blaming Israel first. These folks either blame America or blame Israel for everything. No one's here saying that either of those countries are perfect and of course leaders and individuals from those countries can do bad and horrific things. There's no doubt about that. But to pretend that the good guys are the ones who are on the side that are chanting death to America and death to Israel is something altogether different. We're fighting this in a lot of places and we're fighting it, of course, in media. There's a difference between journalism and commentary or editorializing, which is what I do. But I would say that there's a third option.

17:50You've got journalists. You've got people who are commentators. Then you've got people who are fake journalists who are actually, and I would contend that this is the majority of journalists today. These are people who pretend that they are in the camp of journalists, but in reality, these are people who are commentators who are pretending that they're journalists. So they're fake. They're trying to present themselves as one. This thing, I think, you could call them trans journalists, right? Fake journalists. I told you in the world of the trans movement, if you just want to understand what it means, if you're confused by the terminology, I've said this before, I'll say it again. In that world, if you want to know what a trans woman is, just read the word in this case, trans as fake. Fake woman is a biological man. That makes it easy to remember. You could think of these folks as trans journalists and using the same methodology. You could say fake journalists. These are actually a trans journalist as a commentator who's presenting himself or herself

18:55or Z-self or whatever, Z-Zer, whatever, as someone who is a journalist, what in fact, this person is a commentator trying to persuade you, but it's manipulative when they do it under the guys that they're just presenting the news and unbiased information that is not objectively what is happening here. I've got more to say about Trump and his press release here. I'll get to that in a moment, but friends, let's face it. But getting back to the Trump team's press release, it says the first amendment protects

20:57their right to publish. Again, talking about the journalist, CNN, MS, now, and Politico who have been prohibited from coming into the White House briefing room, entering the White House grounds. They stole the right to publish whatever they want. The first amendment protects that right. That first amendment does not entitle them, as this press release says, to a hard pass, briefing room, seat, or place in the press room. That's absolutely true. You may still come down on the other side of this, but this is true. The first amendment does not guarantee everyone a press pass. That is not the truth. There's a limited number. By definition, someone is going to have to be excluded. I'm going to try to at least finish this next part before I take my break. Access changes are nothing new. This press release says from the White House. What is new, however, is the sudden claim that it becomes sacred only when the outlets are friendly to the radical left.

22:00The rule was never every outlet gets in. It was always our side stays in. Circle gets the square. That's a direct hit. That's exactly what's happening. We've had people in government who have told us directly or subtly over the course of time that the real journalists are the ones who puppet, or I should say who parrot, the same lines that you hear coming from the radical left from the Democrat Party. Those are the journalists and everyone else who seems to disagree with that. Which again, why do we know what these journalists think? Real journalists don't tell us their personal opinions. They keep themselves out of the story, but the point is here that's not that this is so broken, fundamentally broken. And it's been broken for such a long time that they have built it in such a way that they have defined who the quote unquote real journalist are. The White House says not so fast. We're not playing by those games any longer. I've got to take a break here, my friends. Sit tight back in just a minute.

24:05to, of course, all the hubbub, the big bruja that's been developing. We've got the media suing again, the media at large suing the White House, the Trump administration for revoking media access to CNN, MS now and Politico. And when the White House says they've been reporting fake news for years. So they've also said that this has happened previously. So here they continue for years. They write Democrat administrations have restricted punished and locked out the press. I talked yesterday about some of the things that happened in the Obama administration. We went back and talked about that. Some of the spying that happened on the media, some of the restrictions they pursued the same thing, right? They did the same thing by keeping Fox news out of an interview with, I forget the guy who it was, but they wouldn't let him interview Fox News interview.

25:08Some, some czar, I think at which one it was off the top of my head. But regardless, they're going to talk about this here. So 2009, the White House branded Fox news as the research arm and communications arm of the Republican party, barged it from a round of exclusive Sunday show. Interviews instructed agencies to skip, including it in pooled coverage, derided it as really not news and undertook an all out effort to isolate the organization. Barack Hussein Obama now calls a Fox band quote unimaginable. We talked about this yesterday as well. In fact, the more I read this, I think I think they're listening to this program. So if you tuned in yesterday, folks in the Trump White House, it's good to have you here. Let this White House, as I go back to the press release here, but his White House tried it and his spokes spokesman admitted that they were willing to do it. Then it continues here. Obama team continues effort to isolate Fox News 2010.

26:13The Obama Justice Department labeled Fox News correspondent James Rosen. We talked about him yesterday, a possible co-conspirator in a criminal leak case secretly monitored his emails and phone calls and tracked his movements and unprecedented level of surveillance and intimidation of a journalist over his reporting in 2011. Obama White House officials restricted the Boston Herald from coverage, writing that pool slots depended on covering Obama quote, fairly after the paper ran a front page Mitt Romney op-ed. There's a logo here for media. White House refuses to access to Boston Herald calls out Mitch Romney's Mitt Romney's front page op-ed. These are screenshots of headlines that were online over the course of time. This is like a timeline that they put in this press release after a San Francisco Chronicle

27:16reporter recorded protests interrupted interrupting an Obama fundraiser White House officials threatened to strip the outlet from access and warned of retaliation if the paper reported on it. 2012, the Obama Justice Department secretly seized two months of telephone records covering more than 20 associated press lines used by more than a dozen journalists targeting them over their reporting. 2023, the Biden White House blocked New York Post reporter Stephen Nelson from covering the president's only daytime public event despite empty seats in the room after the reporter pressed Biden on his family's shady business dealings. I'm sorry. I love these little jabs here. So they said, listen, they wouldn't even let the New York Post enter this reporter, Stephen

28:19Nelson. They wouldn't let him enter the room despite the fact that there were lots of empty seats and it was the president's only daytime public event. Remember, by the way, if you want to talk about access, let me ask you this. If you want to talk about access to a president, right, which what this is really boils down to. Let's say option A is that everyone gets a mythical pass to attend press briefings that never happen or you have a president who has press conferences, press briefings, all this stuff on the fly, who's probably the most accessible press president to the media in the history of America. This guy president Trump, he loves this. I would say if anything, if you wanted to have a criticism, it would be man. Can the guy not step in front of the media for a little bit? This guy is always available. So is it better to have everyone in the world have a mythical press pass to press conferences

29:20and and briefings that never take place or very rarely take place or is it better to say if you're going to be a person sitting in that room, you've got to be engaged in real journalism. You can't be you can't have a history of reporting consistently fake news. I talked yesterday about some of these lawsuits and things that have happened, these settlements that involve these media outlets are not allowed to criticize these people. If you do, it's an assault on our democracy, of course, but what is better is it better to have everyone get a press pass to a press event that never happens or is it actually better to have an accessible president who people can still publish whatever they want to about him. Which of those two things is the better option? Anyway, so that was in 2023 and again, there's a screenshot with the headline from the New York Post that says White House bands the post from Biden event as Hunter indictment looms.

30:212023, I saw this published somewhere else yesterday after the program, the Biden administration restricted more than 440 reporters from White House access through a new retroactive press credentialing process with independent and conservative journalists taking a heavy share of the hit. The White House Correspondents Association barely objected. Again, it's like I'm telling you. It's like high school. It is. It is like high school. You've got these journalists in order to be in the group. You've got to be part of the group. You have to be a card carrying leftist. Now you don't publish that card on your media facing side. What you do is you get inside these these rooms and you use the language. You engage in the appropriate amount of virtue signaling so that you can kind of wink at the people in the room saying I'm with you. We're on the same side.

31:21We've got the same mission here, which is to move America to the left through whatever methods and techniques we can use. We're all doing this. We all know what we're doing. We're colluding with one another. We're going to pretend to be journalists, pretend to be covering this fairly. It's part of our job to make sure that we support the other people in this room who are engaged in the same thing. These are folks who again are activists with press badges. That's what it is. They're activists with press badges. You got to pick one. You can be an activist. You can be a member of the media. But if you're going to be a member of the media and if you're going to engage in true journalism, you've got to quit being an activist. It's the worst type of activist when you're someone who is actually an activist, but you're telling us that you're an objective, facts only journalist. You're trying to get out information so that people can draw their own conclusions. You are using that as a technique to get the desired outcome that you want. A journalist should never be focused on an intended outcome.

32:24The only intended outcome I would say you should seek as a journalist is that the people that read or follow your information, your post, whatever it is, follow you on television, whatever you produce your journalism. The only desired outcome you should have is that they are factually more informed to make decisions. You shouldn't say I hope they take this and then vote for Democrats or vote for Kamala or President Biden or L. Syed or AOC or Bernie Sanders or anything else. Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, whoever's running, right? Barack Obama. But that's what they've done. And that's why there's such a distrust and hatred for these folks because there are so many examples of this. So many examples of this were told to ignore it. We're told that if you pointed out that it's an attack and assault on the first amendment, the free press and so forth, that's hot wash. That's ridiculous. That's absurd. That's not what's happening here. This is an all out assault on, I would say, on the American people.

33:28If you want to talk about a threat to our, I say, republic, look at something like this because a free press is a bedrock principle in a free society. You have to have it. And in order to have it, you have to have people who also have integrity. That's something else that's kind of crept into this conversation that I'll hit on. Well, I may, it may only be in the inner circle today, but Liberty versus Freedom. I can't get into it right now, but I think that that's something here as well. And the Obama campaign's final days, senior campaign officials, pulled reporters from three prominent outlets off the traveling press plane, restricting them from the coverage after the papers endorsed Obama's opponent. So you have a newspaper at the time, 2008, endorsing 2008 would have been John McCain. And so they pulled reporters who worked for those papers, prominent papers, off of the

36:36traveling press plane because the paper endorsed the paper they worked for endorsed John McCain instead of Barack Obama. And that that sounds sketchy to me. Why did they do that? That was specifically designed because of the decision that the paper had made to endorse Obama's opponent, John McCain. 2021, the same media now suing once urged a ban on Fox News. CNN's Brian Stelter, oh yes, Brian Stelter repeatedly floated removing Fox News from the White House press tool as a press, I think I should say pool, but they he called them a political tool. And later even suggested Fox News be dropped from cable altogether during the first 100 days. The press release says here, a president Trump's second term, the media research center found

37:36that 92% we talked about this yesterday too. We have coverage by main stream outlets was negative compared to nearly 60% positive coverage during that same period under president bribery. That's more like a political operation with cameras than a free press holding power to account. No president, this is in bold letters at the bottom of the press conference or press release. No president is required to host a hostile operation on the grounds. Access has always been a privilege and president Trump is applying that rule. Well done. This is well done. It's an outline of yesterday's show again, kudos to those of you at the White House in the administration that are tuned into this program every day. Good job. That's a pretty good summary of things we talked about on here yesterday, but I'm all serious. This is my friends. This, listen, this makes an incredibly strong case and it isn't interesting how they,

38:40the media collectively responds to this, whatever it is done by Donald Trump, but what it's done by Obama or by Biden or by somebody who's in the Democrat on the Democrat side of the YAH. It's no big deal. We're supposed to do that. Know that I would venture to say 95 plus percent of what I read in that press release, examples that we talked about on this program yesterday too. I would say that 95 percent of the people in this country have no idea that any of that even happened and you have to ask yourself why they all know about this. Why do they know about this? Well, you could say, well, Todd, they don't have to rely upon their memory.
