Welcome back.
It's the midday show.
Is there a song for free agency as we look forward here a week away until legal tampering.
Of course, it's a legal tampering week here on the NFL and Hugh Douglas.
We have four free agents that are top of mind.
Welcome back.
It is the midday show.
Hugh Douglas, Joe Julia.
Well, back to all your phone calls on AJ on Max Crosby, the ABS system majorly based
play at one o'clock.
Hugh Douglas is going to update on the fills his win total.
He's been raising it and lowering it based on spring training results.
Yesterday, pretty good day.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Nice.
We'll get to that and where your win total is at.
Let's get to this though.
Here, one week from today, free agency starts.
We have four Eagles free agents that are top of mind and in some, you know, varying
ways are significant players and they're all going to be challenged in a place.
And we got to kind of rank where we think the Eagles should put their resources.
Let's go through these here.
There's Joe and Phillips.
There's the Kobe Dean.
There's Reed Blanket chip and there's Dallas, Goddard.
When I say those four names, if you had to pick out one that if you were in charge here,
you would bring back Phillips, Dean Blanket chip, Goddard, if you had to pick out one,
you'd pick out of one out of that group.
Yeah.
To bring back just one.
Probably say Jaylin Phillips.
I mean, my heart's saying the Kobe Dean, but I understand the situation, the weight of
the magnitude of that situation, but it would be probably Jaylin Phillips.
He's probably going to get a ton of money too.
I mean, I looked at one ranking.
The spring day was NFL.com's list.
He's the third overall ranked free agent.
He's going to get a lot of money.
I'm going to get a ton of bread and yeah, you just say it one.
You say it one.
He'll.
So wouldn't the Kobe be two for you?
Because you, I mean, you get, I would say out of that, two would be Goddard.
Because we don't have a tight end, we don't, we don't, we're, we're looked like, if we're
going to run the offense that we want to run, I mean, he's our best blocking tight end.
And I don't even know if he's great blocker anymore.
Joe, I say he's our best, it's totally how he's declined as a blocker.
He used to be a great two way tight end.
This is, this is the thing because we're going to have to fill a lot of these holes.
I know.
And it's okay.
How do you feel?
Now, that, that's my feeling, but the Eagles are telling they made him take a pay cut
last year.
So they might be willing to go into free agency or maybe even go into the draft and try
to find a new tight end or, or find somebody like that.
We're not going to be able to keep everybody, but, but when you talk about prioritizing people,
I would probably say right off the top, Jaylin, even though hit, to me, he, he had moments
where he disappeared last year, but you know, that was his, you know, first year, well,
first, you know, time in the system or whatever.
He started out strong and then it was time he's disappeared.
I think that, you know, him being here with, with a Vic, he could probably improve on
that.
Yeah.
Him.
He would be the guy.
So you'd let Dean and Blake a chip walk, well, I don't want to let him walk away.
But we got, we got your high Campbell and it was obvious early on that they were trying
to get him in the mix.
Nicobie's here.
He's not going to be in the mix that much.
Yeah.
I think the most obvious one that's going to be gone is Nicobie.
Yeah.
I mean, they drafted a linebacker in the first round last year and paid a linebacker,
you know, through free agency with, with bond, right?
It was one year deal and they had a re-up in last year.
I just think, I like Nicobie.
And I like watching him play.
I just think there's no way he's coming back.
It doesn't make any logical sense unless they moved on from bond somehow.
They traded him or something or they thought Campbell could play the edge, which last year
didn't give us much evidence he could.
So I just think the most obvious one that you, you, we have to say goodbye to is good
to be Nicobie Dean.
That's sticking in my head.
The Goddard one is weird because I hear you, you, but they keep going year to year.
Doesn't it feel like they're going to rebuild that whole room and we're going to say goodbye
to Goddard?
Goddard, I feel like that's probably where we're going.
Yeah.
And you, you probably, it's a good chance you're probably going to see some young guys on
that offense.
Yeah.
You know, contributing.
They don't have the heir apparent like Goddard once though.
I know.
I'm not running him with Grant Calcatera.
I wouldn't either.
I think Goddard has to be number one.
Goddard one?
Yes.
And he's aged.
I do.
Older player on the list.
That's fine.
I like, I feel better about us being able to attack edge in free agency on the draft.
Especially, you know, with the future of Vick Fangio being a little uncertain.
Yeah.
The Nikobe thing, he's out.
They have ball and they have Campbell.
Black and ship.
I know it's like interesting.
That feels like not as important of a position that they'll be able to fill in free agency.
Goddard, like I feel like is just the way things look right now, draft and free agency
feels like the most difficult to replace immediately.
Well, he'd be challenging to replace, especially, you know, you can mention the comment this
week.
Sadeek, the tight end from Oregon, had a crazy workout.
I think there's very little chance he's going to be on the board at 23 when he goes
pick.
So the one first round tight ends probably not going to be available.
I mean, I mean, I wouldn't reject Goddard coming back.
I just feel like they're telling us they're moving on every year.
It feels like, yeah, this might be the last year for Dallas Goddard.
I thought they were telling us that last year.
I know.
And maybe they are.
All right.
Before I name the ones I'd bring back the most, you are, you will want to pay jail
until it's $20 million a year because that might be where his mark goes.
He's going to be very expensive.
Oh, I kicked the tires.
I would, I would make him an offer.
Now how enthusiastic I am about that.
Like I said, it feels like you're going to be in position.
If you stay at 23, you're probably going to get, you're going to get an athletic young player.
Did you see those young, young linebackers from Ohio State, but man, I can't spend another
pick on an edge.
We got, I mean, why would you say, we build, we got receiver to rebuild.
I hear what you saying.
I hear what you saying.
Other ancient drafts.
But it feels like, because somebody else is going to be enamored by the speed of these
young linebackers and everything and these young corners and all this other stuff.
You're going to be in position to potentially get some offensive players, maybe some good
offensive players, and those later rounds.
It just all depends on how teams are viewing the needs of their squad.
You know, defense right now, is that a premium when you talk about young, speedy guys and
the way the NFL is going to get to quarterback.
But it's one of those things where if you can get them cheap, cheap about it doesn't, you
take that chance.
I'd be wary of paying General Phillips $20 million a year, I just would be very wary
of it.
I mean, he's been injured for a lot of his career, but somebody's going to do it.
Well, of course someone's going to spend it.
I mean, that's what I'm saying.
I kicked the tires, definitely kicked the tires.
If it gets too rich for my blood, then, you know, as I think this big picture, over
the next couple of years, I would rather pay Carter, Davis, Quinion, Cooper, all before
I want to pay General Phillips.
You guys, you're guys.
Yeah.
And guys, I just trust more to play better over the next few years.
I just don't trust General Phillips.
Help.
Now, if I'm ranking them, Phillips is the best player on this list.
He's just the best player.
He's the youngest and he's the, or he's one of the youngest and he's the best player.
You know, one name that neither you guys mentioned, and I will, I will start this by saying,
I think he's the worst player on this list.
I think if we're just ranking the four players that I mentioned, right?
If it's just going by the names, Phillips, Dean, Blanketship, Goddard.
Here I think the fourth, most valuable player, the least valuable player is Reed Blanketship.
I also don't think he's going to be easy to replace.
The Eagles are not, for as many people that say, Joe, we can't get rid of AJ.
We are not good at drafting receivers.
They don't draft safety as well and all.
I know McCuba showed some flasters last year.
He got hurt then.
We'll see what he is.
But other than that, Reed was undrafted.
Can we think of a safety they drafted here in a long time that turned out to be a good
player for them?
They don't draft safety as well.
They develop undrafted guys like Reed or I think Marcus Epps was well like a six-round
pick and they developed him into a solid player for and helped him get through a snowball.
But you that, the Reed...
I do two points.
It's been a while.
The Reed one is interesting is I think he's not going to be very expensive and I don't
trust them to go get on a safety.
Last time they tried this, they had to bring back CJGJ twice, they had a trade for Kevin
Bayer during the season because they were so bad at that position.
It's kind of a blind spot for how he's safety.
Yeah, but I feel like they feel that maybe they want to get a little more athletic at their
position.
Yeah, I mean, but they're not good at it.
Yeah, yeah, that's the thing.
I'm looking through right now.
What happened to Lewis Seen?
Thanks.
What was Seen?
I mean, that happened to Lewis Seen, he can't play.
It's the way you said it though.
Do you know who he is?
I know who he is.
Do you know the Eagles have drafted its safety in the last decade?
I'm looking at K-Von, so we had McCuba Lesher, right?
And I like McCuba in that post.
Yeah, little smaller.
Okay, but smaller and he got banged up last year.
2,024, they did not draft his safety.
2,023.
You know what I was?
That was Sydney Brown.
Sydney.
He can't play.
Yeah.
I mean, he's a chance, Joel.
He has.
He has.
He has.
Can't play.
He needs more football awareness.
Oh, okay.
I was saying that.
He's in the NFL.
Where's you going to get that?
He needs football awareness.
If it hasn't happened here.
He can't.
He can't happen.
I was trying to be nice.
All right, in 2021, they drafted Jacobi Stevens at the safety
position.
No.
Could imply.
K-Von Wallis was 2020.
I mean, I might have to scroll back a long time to they drafted a
safety that could play.
Do you know who 2017 was, Kyle?
Nate Garrett.
He drafted.
Yeah.
Was it as a safety?
There was a linebacker.
Well, they moved into a linebacker.
Well, he was a safety.
JLM mills were drafted.
Was a safety.
They moved into corner.
That was actually a good draft bet.
Yeah, it was a good draft bet.
Great draft bet.
Great draft bet.
I mean, we're talking about a decade since they drafted a safety.
We don't need the draft a safety.
Okay.
Well, where are they finding one?
I'm afraid.
It's posture.
CJ Gardner Johnson wants to come back.
I'd really told you I'd be open to that.
Okay.
Well, then solved.
CJ.
Yeah.
But I think they didn't like the fact that CJ GJ was out there cheering
picking and being a renegade.
Dude, that's what he does.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just saying.
Blink is just a very safe player.
If he's cheap, just bring him back.
Put him in there.
He's starting caliber player in a good defense.
All right.
2-1-5-5-9-2.
9-4-9-4.
So my official names are Phillips, although I'm not enthused about
$20 million a year.
Phillips and Reed.
I'd rank them my top two freeings to bring back.
I'm okay saying goodbye to God at this point.
And I think Nikovi is just out of here.
I mean, I just think.
Yeah, Nikovi.
I think Nikovi.
It's going to be crazy.
I'll believe it.
Yeah.
I feel like that's what I'm trying.
I'm ready to hate Nikovi Dean.
That's fun.
And I'm ready to hate it.
Well, you might.
You might have to sue Juice and Southfully.
What's up, Juice?
Hey, Joe.
What's up?
Hey, Juice.
What's up, man?
How you doing?
All right.
What's up, folks?
All right.
So real quick.
AJ Brown's what I take.
What I love them all for no.
I don't think they're going to give her to him until after June 1st.
That's just my opinion.
I think unless how he gets an offer or gets it, you know,
old guy, he just can't refuse.
I don't think he's going to get rid of them.
I also don't think you can bring them back.
So it's kind of like a casty-honoured thing
where they got to get rid of them.
But I wouldn't just let them walk for nothing.
But to be honest with you, he quit on us.
So I'm like, I'm over him.
I think a lot of people, Juice, are feeling that way.
They're over him.
They're over it.
And that playoff game, it's hard to reconcile that.
It's hard to bring a player back after that kind of game.
Listen, in Philadelphia, we value more than anything effort.
Like that's where we're blue collar, right?
So we value that effort.
And when we watch you call it whatever you want,
it's quitting.
When you quit on us, I mean, most of us are like,
nah, I'm good.
You know what I'm saying?
But with that being said, I just
wanted to add a little bit to the free agency.
Yeah.
So I feel like we definitely need an end for sure.
And if I'm paying that much for Phillips,
I might look to try to get across me or somebody.
But doon's day scenario.
Hey y'all, I'm Maddie.
And I'm Poodle.

Let's go.
I'm telling you, man, it scares me to think
Nicole would be deemed going to Dallas
because he's a quarterback for Parker's.
Decent.
Yeah, for defense, man.
And like, you know, a defense with a good quarterback
that knows, ah, man, that's scary, man.
That's scary.
I'm just saying.
Well, Joe, I feel similar.
I mean, I know, yeah, look, we're all going to reflexively.
We're going to say, ah, we don't take Dallas seriously.
Here's what I know.
Dallas's offense was way better than ours last year.
Not even close, right?
And their defense was bad.
And then they made a couple trades right around the deadline.
They got Quinn Williams and they looked confident for a few weeks.
And they got themselves back in the race.
If they land to Kobe and a past russia,
here to go with Quinn and Williams,
if they have a decent defense and their offense is what it was
last year, to me, we have a real threat in the division.
Yeah, but our offense is going to be so much better.
Orange.
We got, yeah, because we got coach Manion.
You're not even, you're not even a manion, man.
You know what I'm saying?
You're a manion, man.
We also have the sky marshal.
Yeah, we got the sky marshal.
Well, I mean, the, the manion man needs time
to get this thing rolling.
I ain't got time for that.
I already am going to be patient with you on that.
No, it's the NFL.
Yeah.
We don't get we work about that.
It's real quick.
He's a quarterback though.
He's a quarterback that can come in for the defense
and teach them.
And that's staring to me.
You know what I'm saying?
Like a young quarterback.
And I'm sure I'm sure he'd have a little bench is on him.
I'd like to cut in the Kobe, but I don't see how we keep on
either.
I don't know.
It's tough, man.
I feel like the writing was on the wall.
And juice with Prince Fungo.
The writing was on the wall.
Hugh for Nicobie's tenure.
When they drafted the corner, I mean, the other line back.
Yeah.
I mean, it just it felt to me that moment that I remember doing the draft of the draft
show that night.
The moment that they announced Shahad Campbell is the pick.
Oh, yes.
Like the Kobe because he was hurt off to hurt.
Yep.
And, you know, they wanted to try to they put him in the start line up granite because
Nicobie's come back from injury.
But when Nicobie was out there, the defense was definitely better.
But you got to get the young guy.
You got to get me a position to play.
You know what made it challenging and difficult?
How well Nicobie played when he came back?
Yeah.
This whole thing would be a lot easier if Nicobie didn't play well.
Yeah.
If he didn't come back, look in the same.
You know, if he looked like he was a diminished player because the injury, he, he,
I was shocked at how well he played because that injury is one that a lot of players don't
come back to themselves from.
He came back and was just better than he was with the best.
He was a spark.
He was definitely a spark for that defense.
No question about it.
All right.
So here's the question.
You concerned if he goes to Dallas?
No.
I mean, I'm happy for him.
If that's if that's the way it says, I don't have to go to Dallas.
I don't want him to go to Dallas.
But if that's who's going to pay him the most money, then hey, I'm happy for him.
I mean, this is, this is the game.
Was anybody happy when Harold went to Dallas?
No.
But I mean, he's a, he's a forever eagle.
No, I know.
No, it's not like I want, I'll, you know, be, I mean, I don't get what you're saying.
I don't want to see them get better and I think he makes them a better defense.
Yeah.
No, I get what you're saying.
Yeah.
No, I get what you're saying.
But it's the nature of the beast.
I know.
You know what I mean?
It just be easier for me to just accept this.
If he went like the Baltimore or New England or something like that.
Go to the Raiders.
Whatever.
Hopefully a bad team overpays you and then off to worry about you coming back to
Earth Eagles.
Let's go to Ken and sentiments and hey, Ken, good afternoon, gentlemen.
How's everything?
Ken.
What's going on?
Fine Monday.
So WBC starts on Thursday.
So I can't wait for for some real baseball start.
That's going to be fun.
On this whole question of AJ Brown and the free agency in general, first of all, I don't
know how you bring AJ back here after, after he put that effort on tape that he put
into playoff game.
And let's keep things in perspective.
Maybe I know we don't really do that very often on WIP.
AJ Brown is not even the best receiver on his own team.
He is probably the fifth or sixth best wide receiver in the division.
So I mean, it's just I'm not I'm not going to pretend that this guy is is irreplaceable.
And I'll tell you what isn't irreplaceable is a guy who just decides, you know, I'm just
not going to give it 100% today because I don't want to be here anymore.
Like you can't you can't put yourself even if it's unfair to the other 52 guys in that
locker room.
And I know he's a popular guy in the locker room, everybody likes them, but it's unfair
to them that they're they're leaving it all in the field and they're killing themselves
to try and accomplish something.
And this guy just decides, I don't want to be here.
So I'm just not going to try that hard.
So I just don't know how you bring them back.
I'm with you.
I just think we've reached a point in no return and it's a matter of what how he's willing
to accept to move on and just move this thing forward.
I mean that that feels like we're at it.
And I think a lot of people are just either don't want to admit it or just hope we're
going to flee someone and then they'll be okay with it.
It's easy to be sentimental about our own guys and then we do that a lot, right?
But and in terms of the tight end, if I'm paying a free agent tight end, I'm going to pay
David and Jokal.
I'm not I'm not paying Dallas Goddard to come back here.
It's just absolutely not like the tight end position to me and free agency is not that
difficult to fix.
And you know, I mean, David and Jokal is the answer there and re-blanket shift is going
to be cheap and you know, the edge position is deep in the draft.
To me, the guy that is most important to this defense, if I have to choose between
paying, paying re-blanket shift or paying the COVID-19 and paying Jamel's village, I'm
going to I'm going to pay the COVID-19.
You know, to me, he's the best blitz back home.
And obviously, he just has an impact on this team when he's on the field.
I don't know if it's intangible or what it is, but he just has an impact on this team
when he's on the field.
Well, he does.
Yeah, I know.
And he is a great blitzing linebacker.
And he was awed.
I was shocked at how well I play.
Can we approach the phone call?
He has great instincts.
So what would they do though?
Like, let's say they did bring back and the Colby.
What you can't just sit.
Who are you sitting?
Well, I mean, you'd have to sit.
Campbell again.
Yeah, but I don't.
I think that.
I mean, excuse me, not team.
You got, you got a lot of backbone.
Bons are best linebacker.
He has to play.
Yeah.
So then the only way to do it is that Campbell for a second straight year wouldn't play.
No, I don't think they want to do that though, because they were, he was a highly
talented.
Like, they were excited because the fact that he failed in the draft and, you know, they
got him, they got him eligible.
They got him able, they got him healthy enough to play and start the season.
Yeah.
So I think that, yeah, they want him on the field.
You want your first round draft pick on the field.
What did you think of Ken's take that, that AJ isn't even a top-frighted receiver in
the division?
I don't agree with that.
But, but Ken's, you know, Ken's entitled to his opinion.
Well, so I'm trying to get, I was trying to guess who he met.
So obviously he's talking about pickens and lamb.
Mm-hmm.
McLaren.
Scary Terry.
Devonte and neighbors.
Mm-hmm.
I'll admit that AJ did not play well in the, in the, in the, uh, uh, playoff game.
But who did?
Well, not, I, for me, it's not even, it's a playoff game all year.
He didn't play.
I mean, and, and at, at the beginning of the year, he was hurt.
And I'm not, that's not a excuse.
That's a fact.
But isn't that part of it?
Like, he's breaking down the knee drain of the snowball, yeah.
And there were times when he flashed.
Now, the reason why he flashed, we don't know.
See, I, I feel like the narrative has been painted because that's the way we wanted
to go.
I don't have enough information to definitive, definitively say that AJ quit.
Maybe AJ was frustrated.
I would probably say more so than anything frustrated about the way the offense was going
more so than anything.
But that's not an excuse to not get full effort.
Not, not at all.
Yeah.
And you should never do that.
And I'm not saying that it is.
It's not, that's not, to me, that's not who AJ is.
So just, I mean, just to go off with Ken said, I, we, it keeps coming up that we're trading
away this great player.
And I keep saying, I don't think he's as great as he used to be.
And I'm just looking at the list in front of me, like just some names I wrote down.
I don't think he's a top 10 receiver anymore.
I, I just, I don't think he is.
I, I just, there's, there's, I believe he is.
If you had to bet in the next two years, you think he's better than Puka?
I don't.
I think, I think, I think that way.
Puka, Puka, Puka, Puka has a nice little highlight reel for his early career.
But when I'm younger, that's what I said.
He has a nice, he has a nice highlight reel for his early career.
But when I envision AJ, I envision he might not be as fast as he once was.
But he's still a physical presence out there on the field where he can still be serviceable.
Jerry Rice wasn't that fast.
See, I feel like Jerry Rice wasn't that fast.
I know.
But the point that I'm making is this, we all talk about receivers like speed is the
end all to be all.
AJ runs good routes.
AJ can, he can position himself embody himself in a way where he can get the ball.
He still has some good football left in him in my opinion.
So I, I, I agree to some extent.
I think there's a very good likelihood of year from now.
He's not a top 20 receiver in football.
I don't think he's top 10 anymore.
And I think in the year he's not, he might not even be top 20.
So like we talk about him like he used to be.
He was a top five guy.
Next couple of years, Puka, Chase, JSN, Aminraw, Pickens, Jefferson, Lamb.
I take them all.
I mean, without even question over what we're getting at AJ, 215, 59294, all right.
We'll get Hugh Douglas's official spring training update.
Will he raise his win total after what he saw this weekend and your painter spring
debut, Bryce Harper going D plus, you know what, I said it on Friday, give start a shot.
Another good weekend for Bryce's thought as I think he should be the lead off hitter
to start the season.
Plus, your phone calls and Adam Schefter just now on how open the Eagles are to trading
AJ Brown.
