2:06today's show. We're so close to Game Week, I just, I have to talk about a game, a football game. We're not having to do a little bit of a Ravens Colts preview, mini preview in the final part of the show. We'll also talk about Namedi Metabique taking another step in his recovery and road back to the field, which is very exciting. We'll talk about what that means. But in the first part of the show, Rob Gromkowski, he is all in on this Baltimore Ravens team. So we got to talk about that and here we do that with me here today from the Ravens Talk podcast and Locked-On RavensWatch show. It is Sam and Joku. Sam, I just were right there. We're right there. We've been through all the check boxes, off-season workouts and training camp and draft and for agencies. I'm all over the place with it. We're almost one week away from this Ravens team kicking off their season in Indianapolis in CN at Lamar Jackson and these stars take the field. Yes, I'm very excited. I see right there Ravens Colts. It's almost time, man. We're nearly a week away from actual football taking place, meaningful football.

3:08So I'm amped up and excited. I'm sure fans are too. Yeah, it's going to be really fun. So we'll do a little mini preview of that in the final part of the show again. But I do want to start, Sam, with Rob Gromkowski, who was with K. Adams on the Up and Atoms show. And the question was asked to Rob, if it's not the Rams, because I feel like everybody is looking at the Rams right now. So they're in Donald coming back, Miles Garrett, all these star power glor over there. It's like, all right, the Rams are probably the favorites, right? Everybody thinks that they're going to win. But K. Adams asked Rob Gromkowski if it is not the Rams, and who would it be? And Rob Gromkowski said, quote, if it's not the Rams, I'm going with the Baltimore Ravens. I think the Baltimore Ravens are going to be the AFC champions. I think they're going to be playing the Rams in the Super Bowl. So if the Rams don't win the Super Bowl well, then it has to be the Baltimore Ravens, because that's what they're going to be facing. Lamar Jackson is going to have an MVP type season, I believe. Actually, that is my MVP pick this year. I'm already getting ahead of the game. Lamar Jackson is going to have a breakout season once again, even though he has breakout seasons every year. But last year, he even just admitted that he was hurt throughout much of this season.

4:11And that's why he only ran the ball. I think 67 around that number that many times. This year, he's going to amp it up a lot, and he's going to be back at full speed, and that offense is going to be clicking. So I love this. I mean, hey, you signed me up for Lamar Jackson MVP, Ravens, at least going to the Super Bowl, if not winning the Super Bowl. It's possible. I can genuinely is because I like the context, say I'm that Rob Gromkowski gave, which I feel like some people leave out, is that Lamar Jackson was injured for much of the year last year. But he's not using that as a, oh, well, Lamar is just who that's who he is now. Lamar is going to bring Amber back up. He's going to be back. He's going to do us thing. So I am very much hopeful that Rob Gromkowski and his thoughts here come to fruition, because even if they don't win the Super Bowl against Los Angeles, which would be devastating, I will say that. That would be a heck of a first season for Jesse Mentor and company. If the floor is making the Super Bowl with Lamar Jackson won another MVP. Oh, yeah. I'm full of Grimoire Rob. I think that this is the team to beat in the AFC for sure.

5:13I think when you look at all of the other top teams in the AFC, I think of teams like the Bills, I think of teams like the Bengals, they all have massive weaknesses on their roster. And I don't, I just don't see that with the Ravens. I think there were question marks surrounding the Ravens are what the center position for the Baltimore Ravens and also whether or not that first year head coach and first year play caller can put it together. That's not your concern heading into this season. And of course, the Ravens are going to be your team to beat and I agree. Well, Holly, we will, Gromk says, I think Lamar Jackson is in the tap for another MVP season. This could be a big year for the Baltimore Ravens. Of course, they do have their juggernaut and NFC with the Rams, but I think that as far as the AFC is concerned, this is definitely the best team in the conference. And of course, we have a lot of time between now and February to figure everything out. But this team is on the right track. I like what I saw in the preseason. I definitely like what I saw throughout camp in the off season as a whole. So yeah, big things ahead for the Baltimore Ravens. I totally agree with what Gromk is talking about. And it's funny because with Aaron Donald coming back, there was all this stuff. I mean, Aaron Donald dominate in all these quarterbacks.

6:15And I was, but there was actually a tweet of mine that went, I guess it had gone for all multiple years ago. And then it went like people were starting to pick up on it again, where Aaron Donald in, it was either the one game or the two. First of all, Aaron Donald is not sack for more Jackson ever, by the way. Like that's one quarterback. He has not been able to sack, but it might have been in the last game they played. Aaron Donald had one tackle and zero sex. He was close. He was really close, but he didn't get him down. And so I think if there is a quarterback, that could be the, the cryptid night for the Los Angeles Rams. Maybe it is the more exact now. So different conversation with Miles Garrett now there. I mean, again, I'm not going to just say all the Ravens are blowing out the ribs. It's like, no, I'm not going to say that. But I think it would be a competitive game. I mean, at least I can say that. But to you say, when you look at, you know, Lamar and, you know, we heard his comments with Adam Shine just about the offense and how he, he said, I'm warning the defense is about how, you know, just he's, he's telling defense essentially they're not going to be

7:20able to, the defense is not going to be able to do that. He's telling Ravens fans about to be a fun year on offense. He said, just for those that missed it quote, from practice, what I'm in seeing on film, I don't believe in defense is prepared for what's in store for them. You know, just I'll cheat a little bit and go back to the Ravens cults thing in the final part of the show. I mean, look, the Ravens offense a week one might just like the cults might just be like, what in the world do we see right now on this like, what is this play call? What is this execution? Like it might be a rude awakening for Indian. I'm not going to like say it's going to happen, but I would not be surprised because I think this offense, and that's a big reason I think why Grand Cousin all in on them is because Lamar within this offense healthy. I mean, all of this just feels like it is kind of stacking up for a really big Lamar Jackson season. It really is. And I'm thinking about, you know, I've already started doing a little bit of a deep dive into that Colts match up on what could possibly be. And we'll talk about that a little later on. But this is definitely an offense that can cause nightmarish scenarios for opposing defenses. If the Ravens can execute, that's the big thing.

8:22We know how complex this offense is on the deck of the Doyle, but if they are to get, you know, all of their ducks in a row with the way they compete with, you know, a mitigating or kind of limiting the amount of turnovers or been limited in the amount of, you know, penalties that happen, pre snap. This could be a team that can go really far because we all know this defense is going to come and play. I don't think there's any amount of doubt in my mind about what this defense is going to do. So the offensive end with Lamar Jackson, how far can this offense go in only one year? And only really a few months of implementation of this offense under decking Duel, how far can this team go? Well, you got to start MVP. You got a future Hall of Fame running back and you have a dynamic, why receiver in Z-Fly was and that just scratching the surface of what this office can do. So I'm pretty excited. What do you think the biggest challenge will be over the first month of the season? Or maybe just even the opening gaming as the colds for the offense? Because clearly as we saw in the practices, joint practices, preseason, feels like the defense is farther ahead of the offense, not to say the offense isn't doing well,

9:23but you know, that defense is just ridiculous. So that's supportive of it. But what do you think the Ravens are going to run into over the first month of the season offensively that might look concerning in terms of growing pains, but you don't think maybe it'll be that big of a deal in long time. Maybe you think it will be a big deal. You know, you can take it either way. I'm leaning towards the inexperience with this team. I mean, again, you have an entirely new interior offense align. You got a new OC, you got a new system. You got a lot of youth and primary positions on this team. You expect the Ravens to run three, maybe even four tight-in formations throughout the season. That's what's very dynamic about this offense. So you have two rookie tight-ins, a rookie rival receiver. So there's a lot of youth here. So just being able to understand what's going on. I think that's why it was so important again for all these players to be there for a rookie, mini camps, OTAs, all that that stuff. Just to get the system, the foundation in place before the season started, before preseason started. Now we know that Lamar Jackson has gotten a foothold on his offense and definitely the goal has been very surprised and happily so about how quickly Lamar Jackson has gotten a hold of this offense.

10:29So that makes things a little easier. But the inexperience could be a factor in the first few days and first few weeks of the season. But that is really, I think some of the issues that the Ravens officers had throughout preseason are going to get kind of swept under the rug because of what the philosophy is for this team. So if everybody understands what's going on, I don't think I'll imagine much about how slowly this Ravens offense got things going, especially considering they're going up against my pain, one of the top five best defenses in the league. Being able to have such a high floor offense as well, like even though it might not look sunshine and rainbows and perfect throughout the first month of the season, they'll be some growing pains and inexperience like you talked about. I do just genuinely think that like having Lamar Jackson and Derek Henry, you'll get you something every week. It'll get you something every week. So and again, even if it is like man, the Ravens are really struggling on offense. They only scored 13 points or whatever it is. Well, like you said, man, well, defensively gave up three. So it doesn't matter. So it's like you can still work through things and go and have some struggles, but still win the game.

11:30Like you can still go through those things. And you know, I have put it out there and I know I know other people have as well that there's a realistic possibility they do go six and over the first six weeks. Like, oh yeah, just with the way their schedule is set up. It's a lot nicer than it was last year. I'll tell you that much. So I do think that Baltimore has that potential. And again, like I'm glad that Rob Remkowski sees it because I think that again, a lot of it's I shouldn't say a lot, but I've seen some people kind of write off Baltimore because of how they're a year went last year. And it's confusing to me because it's like, do not see all the changes that they may do not see a new coaching staff, you know, big time pass, Russia improved offensive line, healthy star quarterback. And you know, it just feels like people want to say, oh, the Ravens are who that's who they are now. They're falling off, but in reality, they have revamped their team. And I think it's going to be really fun. It's season coming up though. Now I'm doing that. If he came, he took another step and it's a big one. So stay tuned when he coming up on the show. But Sam we've been I mean, this not about a BK process since week two. I mean, there's been a lot of question marks and different, you know, potential outcomes. But there's been a lot of positivity recently. Now, I'm be obviously back at practice doing, you know, individual stuff. But we got an update from Jesse Minter at practice on Thursday saying that not be made a BK started aching part in team segments of practice. Now, he's still calling a status day today. So again, it's not the like, oh, he's back. And notification or anything, you know, I don't know if I'm going to do like a Jordan letter. The I'm back. Type of deal. But still, yeah, exactly. Right. Exactly. But this is a big step. It's a big step for nom. And I think every step is a big step, honestly, because, you know, just the nature of that

15:40injury and the pure uncertainty of not just like, well, he missed the season again. It's like, no, well, his career like help him as a person, the health. It comes with neck injury. So the update, he the full update itself was quote, yes, he's progressing really well. He's been in a few team reps and done some things. What that looks like for week one, I think it's still a day to day thing. I would say, but to us credit, we've wanted to be we have wanted this to be the really smart and proactive approach to get him ready to play football after dealing with what he went through and also the surgery that he went through. And so again, we feel good about where he is at today. It's still day to day process, but we certainly have seen some things that indicate great things ahead for nominee. So, you know, kind of not it's an update without really being a full full update. But the team stuff is like a, that's a big deal. And so that's one of the reasons they didn't put him on IR, right? He wouldn't be able to practice at best. The case, they clearly feel like and they have said that he, they don't feel like he's going to miss the first four games of the season. But does this do anything for you, Sam, in terms of confidence level? And maybe does it alter a potential timeline that you would thought for nominee knowing

16:41that now team stuff is on the table for nominee? This is huge. This puts week one on the table for me. I mean, personally, I think this puts week one on the table. The fact that he is in team activities, he didn't, I mean, I think one of the reasons about the did this, so, you know, the media won't be able to show him in team activities. It kind of take, you know, his approach to the best, it gives the uncertainty of whether or not he plays in week one, you know, that type of deal with the coaching staff and all that. But I do really think that this is a very positive sign. I don't think this should be swept into the rug by any means. This is a huge step for my to beat game. I mean, this time last year, I mean, I guess not this time last year, but six months ago, we're not sure this guy plays football again. But the fact of him taking part in those reps, that is a huge undertaking for nominee by the beat game. Huge sign that, you know, this guy may not wait until week three to play, which is my initial thought. This might not wait until week two. This could be a week one thing with, you know, monitor snaps, monitor outlook on his performance and how he's feeling and all of that good stuff. But this definitely puts week one on the table now. Does this secure a week one showing of nominee by the beat game?

17:42Certainly not, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. I think this is a huge step. I'm not really sure what the next step will be besides actually taking part in the football game. But this is definitely a sign positive right direction. We'll see how things go. But certainly just a bunch of gay fans. Good news. Yeah. I mean, I assume that it's just going to be like continuing to add reps on because you know, he did say that it was, you know, the quote is a few team reps and done some things. So I guess just like continuing, hey, take a couple more, a couple more, a couple more until he's fully participating in practice. I assume they want to get probably a week of full participation or at least close to it under his belt before putting them out there. And then even then Sam, you know, the question that we've been asking all off season and I'm curious to see if this has changed for you as well. It's kind of like what it looks like when he first comes back, whether that is week one, week three, whatever it may be week four. I mean, I'm going to assume at some level of a pitch count. And you know, they're going to ease him into full, fledged football action. But with this recovery timeline with the progression that we've seen, I mean, do you think

18:43that maybe he could take on a bigger workload in his first game or two back or do you think that it's still, I mean, I assume they're probably going to operate on the side of caution, which I would be doing as well. But has it maybe changed anything for you in terms of what you expect from non-duany first comes back and what your expectations for him or season long? No, it's become very apparent that they're taking the calculated approach to this. So being in it was a neck injury again, we don't know exactly what the neck injury was, but he certainly did have neck surgery. I would be foolish to think that they would take any other approach, but the cautious one, you know, a few snaps here and there put them on a pitch count. You brought in Kalea's Campbell who was still a starter in his league. We know what Travis Jones can do as well. This is a team that doesn't have to rely on NaNiMataBK, elected the last season. A force that's still losing a huge, huge asset. NaNiMataBK, at least if he returns to the form that he was this time last year. But I still think that they take their time with him, get him acclimated to playing football again, and this guy hasn't played football in over a year. I think that I'm not sure there's a lot of players that can say that.

19:44He hasn't practiced in the full session, at least to our knowledge, you know, since that time. So I say take it slow with him, see how he feels. Don't rush things because Russian things can be bad thing, but this is a guy and this is a culture staff along with the medical personnel there that are going to take their time on NaNiMataBK. I'm sure they'll have maybe 10, 15 reps maybe. I mean, maybe that's overdoing them for the first game, but slowly get things going, see how you feel after the game, how you're next is feeling, and then take them there. Yeah. And the cautious approach is the one to you. Like, you need to be taking a cautious approach with this whole thing, you know, because you don't want to, you know, feel a little overconfident, rush certain things. And I'm not talking about NaNiMataBK. I'm talking about just like everybody involved. You'd be like, oh, come to this agreement. Like, let's go out there and do this thing. And then you maybe jump it a little bit and then it is a setback. And again, neck injuries are, they're serious, you know, potentially like life altering situations. So, you know, it's great news. It's a very big step for NaNiMataBK. And, you know, it does, I agree.

20:45Like, it definitely, I was like, there's no way he's playing weak one. Like, I'd been on that stance for a while. I'm still probably on the training doesn't play weak one. I'd probably still look at like, but maybe this is like we too. Maybe he comes back to like the home opener or something. Like, that could be maybe much more realistic now than it was even 24 hours ago or four to eight hours ago. So, I think that's really intriguing. But what about the depth they have otherwise? And, you know, we had to talk about that a lot this off season because we were wondering would NaNi even come back at all? I'm like, what would life be like without him? Now, obviously with the developments looks like we don't have to envision that thankfully. But, you know, for you knowing that NaNi might not play in weak one or if he does play in weak one, you know, probably be on a snap count. So, you're going to have to rely on other guys. The Ravens did go a little heavier on the D line. They kept six guys on the D line. I'm assuming that is because, you know, NaNiMataBK is uncertain when he's going to come back. But how confident are you in that D line room as a whole, especially considering, I mean, they need pass rush from the interior and they certainly have a couple of options once

21:45NaNiMataBK comes back. But they also added a few guys that can do it as well, both on the interior but also that outside linebacker group looking pretty good as well. Yeah, the outside linebacker group doing well does help the interior as well. We knew last season the Ravens were counting on NaNiMataBK and Travis Jones to kind of push that line for kind of keep them from having, you know, the opposing offense key in on their pass rushes with that time was Mike Green and Adafee always. So I think that this time around, it's Trayhenderson, Mike Green, you know, all of the pass rushes are going to help things out with the interior. The depth is great. Klaas Campbell, I think you might have him on a pitch count as well. He's 40 years old. But Travis Jones company him with in these people's. You do have a dynamic approach to this. Of course, I think they would love to have NaNiMataBK back for that week with matchup against, you know, JT. But I think regardless that interior front is going to be able to do well enough to hold the four until NaNiMataBK is ready. Again, there isn't really a premiere pass. I got surpassed at the football, but besides Dak Prescott, he had the first six weeks of

22:47the season, which gives the Ravens a little bit of wiggle room to get NaNiMataBK acclimated. But I still think this depth upon this defensive line, Travis Jones leading the way is okay to get things going until, you know, the real, real tough game start starting with that Cincinnati Bengals matchup. How do you think Jesse Minter's system, Sam, is going to, I guess, put the strengths of the defensive line room on display? What do you think he's going to be able to do from his schematic standpoint to help the defensive line win as much as possible? And maybe even on the flip side of that, how is it going to help the guys behind the defensive line win assuming the defense is able to put on a show? Well, the pressure is going to be on the secondary to kind of make things happen. He definitely does a great job of using his secondary to make things happen both on a standpoint of providing pressure. And even the illusion of pressure which gives, you know, guys like Travis Jones a chance to get one-on-one matchups a crowned in case it has felt that the right tackle or the left tackle has an opportunity to have to get overloaded with, you know, both safeties and DBs

23:50of that nature, nickelbacks or whatever. So I think it's going to be really a case of showing pressure with God the Cow Hamilton and Jaylon Hawkins and even whoever the nickelback would be, most likely, Mallon Humphrey and kind of making it work from there. So I think it's going to be one of those things. I'm not sure if there's really a plan in place to have the interior defensive line, you know, step up in a big way, especially in passing downs, besides getting the illusion of pressure from the back. And now you can add extra guys in front. He does have again a plethora of depth pieces to kind of put a front on running downs. But I think for the most part, Jesse Mentelexa played safe. Make sure he has a couple of guys that can get after the quarterback regardless of the down, regardless of the distance. But it's going to be up to the guys in the back. The safeties, apparently, are going to have a big roll ahead to make sure that everybody gets a chance to eat. Everybody's going to be able to benefit in this defense. The system is incredible. And I think even just what we saw in the preseason, I mean, some of that stuff, I'm just like, man, this is kind of exotic stuff. And I feel like it's just not even scratching the surface of what a lot of Jesse Mentelexa is going to do this season. So it's going to be huge and coming up on the final part of the show.

The Colts are a team that are interesting.

26:57Daniel Jones is coming off into Killy's injury. Jonathan Taylor is one of the best running backs in the entire NFL. They trade Michael Pitt into the Pittsburgh Steelers, so Baltimore will still see him, just twice a year now, as it wants. But they resign Alec Pierce to a big deal. Keenan Allen got in some legal trouble last week, but looks like he will still play if I'm reading the situation right. The defense, I mean, they have some pieces there. They traded for sauce gardener last year, really made a swing move there. What are your initial thoughts on the matchup for the Ravens and the Colts? Because again, you can't take the Colts lightly here. There are NFL team. They have a lot of talents, but again, this is not like they're facing the bills in week one like last year. Yeah, the Colts are an interesting team. They're really good to start the season last year. I think Daniel Jones getting hurt kind of derailed things for them a bit, but they still have Jonathan Taylor who I think is one of the top five best rushers in the league, which makes them dangerous in their regard. Daniel Jones, a season that I'm not sure if he's the passer that you'll see with Joe Burrow or Patrick Mahomes obviously he's not in that tier of quarterbacks, but he does

27:58a good job with distributing the football. Of course, the loss of Michael Pittman will kind of hurt their passing ability a little bit, but on the offensive end of Jesse Mitchell is going to have to do a very good job of stopping Jonathan Taylor. Have you hold him in check then? I think Daniel Jones has a more difficult time getting things going. So stopping the run is going to be the main area of focus for mention this week. I'm sure on the other side of the ball that defense last year, they were really good at stopping the run. So Declendole is going to have to find a way to run the football on the defense that has had success stopping the run at least last year and getting Derek Henry going. It's going to be a big part of this offense not just this week, but every week in the upcoming season. Yeah, man. I feel so good to do these. I know, right? He's again, feels so, so good. It's so good. But yeah, you're right. That's where I was looking to the run defense for Indy second last year. They have some guys up front. Grover Stewart was one of my favorite defensive lineman in the entire NFL. I want him and Josh sweat were two guys. I was like, I need these guys in Baltimore, please. I mean, I would Grover Stewart needs to go into Baltimore at some point, but you know, they have guys there, you know, the force buckner, etc, etc.

29:02But, you know, there is some weakness in the secondary. I'm not sure though. I think that the swing factor here, Sam is going to be Daniel Jones coming off of that injury. What does he look like in week one for sure? I think that's kind of where I'm looking at. Plus kind of diving a little bit further into some of the team offense and the, and defensive stats. They were really good on third down and for and fourth down last season, eighth and third down percentage, fifth and fourth down percentage. They're also a top five red zone offense as well. 65.2% conversion percentage in the red zone. We're not going to talk about red zone offense. Baltimore last year was a small, but they're, they're not great on third. At least they weren't right. This is a new season, but they weren't great on third down defensive. 26th in third down percentage. Actually, I should have brought this up in the past or just before the show, but 20, 25 bears are doing a little live research here. The bears on third down with Ben Johnson calling the plays that can do the offense coordinator. Seventh in the NFL in third down, conversion percentage, number seven there.

30:05Red zone percentage low worst. They were 12, 58.2%. But I think that's an area of Baltimore. If they can just convert on their third downs, extend drives, keep your defense off the field, keep some fresh tires out. That holds defense. Like I think that'd be a really big thing for this Ravens team to do early and often in week number one. You know, guys are going to have as fresh legs as they can over the course of a season as week one, of course. But I think if you can tire that calls defense out pretty quickly and keep Jonathan Taylor on the sideline, one of your best ways to win this game. Oh, yeah. I'm sure the bears love Caleb Williams, but they don't have Lamar Jackson. They don't have Derek Henry. This is going to be a team that's going to have a lot of opportunity to run the football effectively and keep the ball out of the hands of his mentioned Jonathan Taylor. So that run game has to get going to the interior of the offense line. Their first big test is going to be week one against a defensive front of Indianapolis. You only have to make sure they establish the run, make sure to get Russian lanes available for Derek Henry. Derek Henry had success running the football. Despite the fact that the lineman were a horse to be quite honest last season.

31:07So being able to get from the running lanes, he didn't have last year. I'm sure we'll make Derek Henry very happy and having that success on the ground. Maybe it's middling. Maybe it's great. We'll give Lamar Jackson an opportunity to attack that past defense the last year. Again, it wasn't that great. Yep. Yep. I'm excited for this one because I think that the Ravens can get the better of the Colts in a lot of different ways. Again, I'm not saying you have to go six and over your first six weeks, but like getting a statement win on the road in week one, I think it's going to do a lot for your confidence as a team, especially if your offense can get it clicking. We've talked about something and experience the offense has. If they can get going in week one, I think it could carry over into the next handful of weeks, which would be a big moment. That would be huge for them to get the good going. I mean, we want the Ravens to start out fast because again, there is a gauntlet for the Ravens in this in this sexual because they have, you know, the last four games of the season, the bugs, they have the Browns, they have the the Bengals and the Steelers, you know, they got the Bengals and the Bills smash in the middle of that schedule as well. So there's opportunity for the Ravens to kind of take a couple of licks, if you will,

32:11if they don't have the support of those five or six wins to start the season to carry them. Now, I'm not expecting them to lose every tough game they play in 2026. The Ravens are tough beat two. So those other teams need to come and bring me a game as well, but just giving them that cushion in the standings because I do want the Ravens to get them once. You think they are capable of that will be huge for them. So this game, this is an inevitable this cold game, is a start of it that can get things rolling, get the confidence going for the offense. I think the defences plenty confident confidence in this game. But if the offense can feel that confidence like Lamar Jackson, Ligia, that Derek Henry Ligia, that Doyle, Ligia the victory didn't think that both as well for them, not only on a statistical standpoint. I don't know the standard standpoint, but mentally as you get through what could be a very strenuous schedule. Man, I am so excited for this game. Of course, we'll be proving in a lot more detail next week, as well as it would be a couple days away. and coach is going to be a really good game in my opinion and hopefully one that can turn into a great game or the Ravens.
