Hello everyone! Matt Williamson here. Yeah, I rewatched it. Yeah, I dug back in. It doesn't get a lot better on offense folks, that's for sure. No way around that. As we always do with this podcast the day after, recording this on Monday, actually recording a little early had not heard Mike McCarthy's press conference yet or what changes could be coming, but I wanted to get this done. Maybe we can react to those things for tomorrow's show.

2:01But let's know snap counts. Out of a possible 70 snaps, Frazier, Falton and McCormick all played 70. Metcalf only missed two. It looks pretty clear that he's going to be out there for every possible snaps. That's just how they're going to handle him, more on him later. Dylan Cook and Spencer Anderson missed three snaps each, more on that later. Rogers missed three snaps whenever Rudolph did clean up duty. And then here we go with the skill position guys. Jeremy and Roman each played 55 snaps. And I'll dig into that stuff later too. But that was one of the bright spots for showing offense to me was Bernard. And another one is Jalen Warren. He had 50 snaps. Fire Muth was out there for 46. Darnell for 37. Darnell's playing a little more like if there's one tight end on the field, early downs, it's usually Washington. There's ever multiple tight ends.

3:03Fire Muth has been out there for every one of those snaps. If there's, if it's a more repassing situation, it's been fire. Dowd will only lasted 18. We'll see what his story is. Pawnick was out there for 15, which generally I wouldn't be thrilled about and he didn't do anything. But considering Bernard was new and Pittman was out, I have no problem with that usage. And I need to double check this. But I mentioned earlier that the right side of the line missed three snaps. A hot a chore and a half been were out there for those three snaps with Rudolph. Did they just want to get a glimpse of them with the thoughts that maybe they're going to start this upcoming game? I'll be honest, when it got to the two minute drill and this is bad analysis work by me, I flipped the game off and put it on red zone because the game was over at that point. I didn't watch those three snaps, but I will, I guess. I assume that's what's going on. Noah Kowski only out there for two.

4:04I definitely would like to see more involvement there. That's really my only issue so far with snap count distribution. Two for Homer, two for Tanya. On defense, I really don't have a big issue with their snap count distribution here either. But I have heard some complaints that on the second drive of the game, I just heard this like five minutes ago. On the second drive of the game where Henderson had that huge hole where he just ran away from everybody and you know, he could drove a truck through the hole. But the Steelers basically had all backup defensive front people on the field and I get it. I mean, last week I was praising them and for the most part, I'm going to continue to praise them for using a deep rotation, especially early in the year, especially considering age. But I also heard people like second series of the game, why would you have all the backups in there? I guess I understand it, but there's definitely some Monday morning quarterbacking going

5:05on because I do think their defensive front depth is quite good. Maybe you could have had mostly all backups and cam Hayward. Again, I need to go watch that play so it was on the field, but I do think there's some overreaction there. There's a possible 55 snaps on defense. Samuel Queen, Ramsey played all of them. Briskler missed one. Dean was out there for 47. Dean Wilson for 43. Cam Hayward got a little bump up to 41. Benton at 36. By the way, I like Benton being the second most used defensive wide. I think he's very much a breakout player. Rishan Jenkins played 34. Heismeth 33. Harmon 32. Watt 31. 29 for Herbig. Why a black for 20. Sawyer for 19. I guess you could argue that he's played a little more than would like, but he is solid. Ever it was out there for 8. Joseph Day for 7.

6:05Eccles for 5. And Spears Jennings, who I'm very fond of, by the way. Especially on special teams. It was only out there for once now. It's one thing to find the lines, the routine lines. 11:55this out today and I find it pretty interesting too. So 18 years now, Rogers has started the first two games on the NFL season. Okay, not surprising, right? And EPA per play quarterback EPA, pass a rating, touchdown passes and yards per attempt of those 18 seasons. This is his 18th worst start in all those categories. Not all his fault, but let's not say he doesn't deserve some blame too. He's the one touching them all by the time he's making the decisions. The lack of being able to handle pressure is clearly an issue. Some of the outer structure stuff is not going well. Back to some snap count stuff. So Roman Wilson, when there was two receivers out there, pretty consistently was one of the two with EK. Bernard was pretty consistently on the field with 11. The only

13:01difference as we mentioned before was scuronic substituted in more frequently, particularly when they'd be in 11 for Wilson. And I think that's when they when they won the run the ball a little bit more. But they ran so much first 11 personnel at the plays Wilson missed balanced out with the snaps Bernard missed in the two receiver sets. So they ended up with the same snap count. Does that make sense? So they weren't used interchangeably. There was much more substitution there. But that's kind of how they ended up both with 55 snaps each. I'm not making excuses for Metcalf either. It's been pretty rough. But if you had to pick a corner or a type of corner that you don't want him to match up against Gonzales is the poster child. Because Metcalf's not going to win with size and speed alone against him. He's one of the few corners whose length and foot speed aren't you know, he's perfect

14:03for Metcalf from a Patriot perspective. He's the worst for Metcalf from a Steelers perspective. We mentioned that going into the game. I didn't expect Metcalf to win that battle, but it went worse and expected for sure. Another thing I heard some complaints about and went back and looked and I think this is valid. And I'm about here to kill the play calling after two games. But one of the most inefficient things in the league are calling run, run plays on second and long situations. And there was a lot of those in this game. And everyone that sounds like low hanging fruit. That doesn't mean that they are useless. You know, if you get a light box, if you plan on going forward on fourth, you don't want to be predictable that every second and long is a pass play. But there were quite a few second and long runs, which if you talk to the stats, people, the analytics, people, basically they're saying you're surrendering it down. You know, if your goal is on second and 12, second and 10, to get the third

15:07and five, every defense will give you that all day long. You know what I mean? Oh, you're going to give us a third and five situation. Sign me up. You know what I mean? Some defensive stuff. I thought her big was even better. Second time in Washington. Played more on the line of scrimmages this game than he did in week one, which implies I think that they still love what he does best, which is just create havoc off the edge. But he also can do other things. That second level defense. Remember the play he had out of the slot where he just blew up that screen. Her bigs are really, really good football player. Couple other guys I thought played better after watching them a second time. They weren't huge standouts, but I thought Queen had a good game. Harmon was more effective than I originally thought, particularly rushing the passer. And I mentioned before, I think Benton's going to have a breakout year. Saw this today too. That nine different T players on the team finished the day with at least one

16:13quarterback pressure. So they were getting them from all over. One guy on defense that was not his best showing and this could affect the Joey Porter situation, of course, was they played as a, as you remember, they played 0% man coverage in week one. Well, they played a lot more man in this one, not an inordinate amount, but they played a lot more. And Samuel didn't fare as well with the man stuff. You know, that's definitely Porter's forte. And that, that Romeo dobs deep ball was pretty much on Samuel as well. Last thing I got here, this is also from next gen stats is Drake may connected on passes of 29 yards, 29 yards, 30 yards, and 63 yards. The dobs play, I just mentioned, the past, the past also generated big runs. Travelling Henderson's 39 yard sprint and Ramondrae Stevenson had a 24 yarder early in the second half. So anyway,

17:14you cut it. Obviously, the offense was much more to blame for this loss than the defense. And I am still quite excited about the defense to be honest with you. And there was a lot of good on defense, but that's also a lot of explosives to allow, you know, in the run and past game for its first events. And that's not ideal. Alright everyone, take care.
