Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things, God will bring you into judgment. Remove vexation from your mind and put away pain from your body for youth and the dawn of life are vanity. Remember also your creator in the days of your youth. Before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh when you will say, I have no pleasure in them. Before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened, and the clouds return after the rain. In the day when the keepers of the house tremble,

and the strong men are bent and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look through the windows are dimmed, and the doors on the street are shut when the sound of the grinding is low, and one rises up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of song are brought low. They are afraid also of what is high, and tears are in the way. The almond tree blossoms. The grasshopper drags itself along and desires fails, because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets, before the silver cord is snapped, or the golden bull is broken, or the picture is broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern, and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Vanity of vanities says the preacher. All is vanity. Psalm 90. You turn man back to the dust and say,

turn back, O children of men. For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is passed, or as a watch in the night. You sweep men away. They're like a dream, like grass, which is renewed in the morning. In the morning, it flourishes and is renewed in the evening. It fades and withers. So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Return, O Lord, how long have pity on your servants? Satisfies in the morning with your mercy that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us. Yes, establish the work of our hands. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke. All were astonished at the majesty of God.

But while they were all marbling at everything he did, he said to his disciples, let these words sink into your ears. For the Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men. But they did not understand the saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about the saying. What is the Lord saying to you today through these scriptures?

What can you now say to the Lord in response to his word? What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of you today? What can you now say to the Lord? Spend a few moments in silence resting in the presence of the Lord.

What is one specific way that you can go forth and make your life a gift for others? Rejoice always, pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Amen. Thank you for listening to these daily mass readings.
