You know, sometimes the best presents are the least expensive. Hi, this is Jim Daly with Focus on the Family. I bet if you ask your spouse to list some of the favorite things they've received from you, some of the most cherished items will be those that were simple and heartfelt. I know for my wife, Jean, I just cooked her her birthday dinner. It was the first time that I've done that and I made a great vegetarian casserole. And you know what? She said it was the best birthday ever. Here are a few ideas that will go a long way in communicating your love. First, what about a frame picture of the two of you together? You might even include a little note that lists some of the qualities that you admire most about your spouse. In speaking of notes, a short note on the dresser or in the car wherever they might get ready in the morning can brighten your spouse's day. It doesn't have to be profound, just a simple, I love you because you're you. That's sufficient. How about a music mix? Pick out some of your favorite songs that you share together and make a playlist for their MP3 player. Or burn them onto a CD and include a card explaining why those songs are special between the two of you.

Finally, do something domestic. This year has been usually clean the kitchen after dinner. Do the dishes form one night and let them kick his feet up for a while. And if your wife is responsible for making the lunches and getting everyone off to school on time, let her sleep in one morning and take over the shift. With a little creativity, there's no end to the gifts you can give your spouse. Not only on special occasions, but just because. To help your family thrive, go to focusonthefamily.com. I'm Jim daily.
