Welcome back to Southeastern 16 Billy Jones, a long side. Jay Grease in our content, as always, is brought to you by Fandall right now. Texas and Oklahoma, the longhorned 7-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2, total 39-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2, which I'm sure Brian could provide us exactly, but I believe is the lowest total we've seen in an SEC game. So far this year and Jay, the way both teams have played, that number makes sense. Makes a ton of sense. And an over under a 39-1-1-1 half,
you think it's gonna be a game played in the old school NFC Central or played between two military academies. We're running the option. So what was Air Force Navy like 14-9? I mean, look, and I think that's as big of an indictment on the unbelievable inverted bell curve of Oklahoma's defensive talent and their offensive inability. Yeah, I think that's a fair point. And for Texas too, the defenses looked awesome. And the offense in spots has looked good, but in terms of consistency, when you looked at all the puzzle pieces you had, they had, I mean, I certainly thought it would look a little more explosive and more consistent than it has thus far. Without question. And I know we record these on Monday.
If you're a Texas fan, you're really hoping the traditional biweek before Red River allowed Hollywood smothers to get game ready because running the football, they looked like a different team with smothers in Brown as the combo. And that running game was really absent the last time we saw Texas when they went to Knoxville and had a million sacks and peed on the field and rubbed their junk and smelled it and did all that kind of fun stuff. Yeah, well, what can you do, Jay? Yeah, I mean, hey, boys will be boys, right? Yeah, and look, the interesting thing about this match if we can break down the particulars, you know, I feel like it's kind of a cliche to say throw out the record books in a rivalry game,
but this one always has had a flavor of no matter what you feel like these two teams have coming into it. Sometimes this game just blows you away, feels like sometimes we have a game we think's gonna be close and you're looking up to the third quarter and there's a lot of orange and nobody on the red side or vice versa. Three of the last six years, the lower ranked team is coming in one of the games. So there is an element to this game that's always weird and even though right now, Texas feels good about where it's at and boy, the opposite's true and Norman, you just never know with this game. It's on the short list. You phrase that so perfectly. It's on the short list of games that it could be the number two team in the country and the penultimate team in the conference that they share. And it just, it's on the short list where in truth, you completely throw the records out. Completely. I put the iron bowl there, I put the egg bowl there,
I put army navy there. And in some ways Michigan Ohio State is there because of, I mean, how many times in the last handful of years should Ohio State have drugged Michigan? If you take Michigan's national title game out of it and you look up in the game and go, oh yeah, those guys hate each other and this is about more than, then it will be really interesting for two guys you get the off week and we saw in some eye popping scores this past Saturday in the SEC building where you had to wonder about possible let down spots, motivational dips, some scenarios where things looked up, you don't have to worry about snot in the coaching meetings this week about anything related to that. You've got to game plan to win the football game. Yeah, and on that point, last year obviously
we saw Texas was coming off that lost to Florida. They were unranked at the time. Oklahoma was in the top 10 and Texas really used that as a springboard to have a solid two months. If Brent Vennibles is gonna return the favor this year, when Oklahoma's in the meetings this week, how are they plotting it out and saying, hey, this is how we're gonna end up, you know, celebrating with the golden hat at the end of this game in the cod bowl. Okay, he has two, all right, let me put on my Brent Vennibles hat. I got a semi-red shirt on. All right, boys, here's what we're gonna do. Here's our pathway to victory. We're gonna do three things and we're gonna do three things exceedingly well. Defensively, we're gonna take the fight to them because we can. This defensive room, I know we lost a lot of dudes, but you're the dudes now. You're the dudes that are headed to be Sunday dudes now. Secondly, we're gonna dominate the kicking game. We are special on special teams.
Thirdly, I say it's a Tania, you do not practice the rest of the week. You're getting 15 touches on Saturday. I don't give a damn if I've got to line you up at quarterback and we run the single win, but you are our best offensive football player and I need you to be CD-LAM for what he did for the Dallas Cowboys against the Texans yesterday. I need you to be that in Red River, okay? And John, John, let us pray. And I'm sorry, I'm just kidding. You've got to protect the damn football. Every drive that ends in a kick is a good drive in this one, boys, the overruner's 39.5. Yeah, I think that's really well said. And, well, I think it's gotten over shadowed because not saying completely unfairly, but there's been so much vitriol and attention on the issues Oklahoma's had on offense, particularly at John Matier.
But for all they lost on this defense, I mean, you didn't really had missed, missed a beat. They've given up just 490 yards passing in four games. Just 462 yards rushing, that's 3.2 per carry. Look, the score didn't show it against Georgia, but even in that game, that defense played well. Defense played amazingly well. And that's the, that's the, that's what keep Brent Binnables up at night because Matier cost his defense multiple points. Forget what he cost the offense. He cost the defense the same damn thing. And I told you I was gonna blow your mind with a stab. I have not heard this much nationally, but I'm certain that a whole lot of Oklahoma folks are well aware of this stat. Do you know who Matier's backup quarterback was and where he went? He's in Michael Hawkins and he went to West Virginia.
Do you know where he ranks nationally in ESPN's QBR? I know not. He's fifth in the country. His QBR is 89.3 with a 7 to 1 TD to interception right here. Yeah, I mean Rich Rod has had that offense role in this year. He's been a big reason why. Yeah, I can see why that would be frustrating. Sometimes you can get that early start and coaches fist bumping, the fans are feeling good. Can Oklahoma get off to a fast start? And how do you see this one playing out in general, Jay? Yeah, I think Oklahoma can. It hinges on Satanya. I mean, it really does because he's clearly their most explosive player. Man, oh man, I can't think of two teams that want to defer more on the opening kickoff in these two teams. I think you probably, if you're Oklahoma,
you look at some ways in addition, you've got to scheme this, Ben Arbuckle, to a place. To not, it's easy to say, okay, let's get Isaiah the football. Well, you know what? Maybe you come out with some 12 personnel so that whatever side, Anthony Collins Simmons lines up on, you know you've got to tie it into hell because what you can't have happened early. I think the longer the game goes, where it's seven, three, 10, six, as long as the game goes like that, the better Oklahoma feels about it. What they can't have happen is the Texas stars push you to a place where it's 13 nothing because of a turnover, because of a material mistake. And now you're looking up the scoreboard and you're going, well, holy crap, our path to victory was to score 21 total. And now we gotta, now, are we about to have to get into a track meet?
Because that's gonna make it tough. Yeah. Do you have a play you like in this one? If not just, how do you see this one one playing out? The one last thing I would like to discuss is, I think there is, I am curious to see how R channels this, because Arch needs to send a thank you card to John Mateer, because Arch's numbers have not been, I mean, yes, second half against Ohio State was, especially the last quarter and a half were dazzling. And everybody sees Arch's talent, but I heard Mel Kuiper on ESPN National Radio say, Arch Manning should come back for his senior year. Now, I know we all worry about if his family can afford him to take the pay cut, because I mean, we know the Manning's are, they're probably a couple of them are working at McDonald's and they're figuring out how to make the rent do. But Arch Manning, think of the pieces he has around.
And yes, Tennessee's defense is good. Tennessee's defense isn't better than Oklahoma's. And Texas was pretty pedestrian and Knoxville. I know the environment is gonna be different. It's 50-50 in Dallas, but these moments, evidence stacks either in your favor or against your favor. And this is another case file where Arch Manning is gonna see a lot of dudes that in his future, in the NFL, he will see on his team or other sidelines. And when you're stacking case files of mediocrity against NFL opponents or future NFL opponents, that proves the other side of the case. So I think Texas wins a football game, Billy. I think defensively, the divide between the Oklahoma
and the Texas defense is here. And maybe even in terms of star power, Texas may have a slight edge, just because I think Collins Simmons may be the first defensive player off the board, either for the NFL or the urination league, but the difference between offensively is here. And in that regard, I just see Texas win in the football game and I see Oklahoma's struggles continuing. Yeah, well, this would be a fun one. We'll be live for it. So hope you'll join us at 3.30 Eastern. Comment below what are your score predictions for this one? Jay, enjoyed it. Thank you again to our sponsors, Beyond the W2 Rockman, Finland, and Righteous Bell. And we'll see y'all next time right here on South Eastern 16.
