A news update for everything fleet. Everything fleet car and truck rentals. 100% Australian owned and operated. Probably raised a few eyebrows just when that news initially broke. But I think if you work your way all through that, I think there's been some really good conversations with Alex. Not only from myself, but also Ross Lahn. I think we've actually sat down and asked him. Is he happy at the club? He indicated that he is really happy at the sites and wants to stay here and. And we really came to keep him as well as a young developing player. He's an outstanding young man and. We're really excited about what he can do in the future. So I think once you get through all the noise of what took place and what happened and you get to the facts of it. And now a really good conversations between myself and Alex and also Ross and Alex and. And we're really happy to move on. St. Kilders, Lenny Hayes there earlier today on trade radio talking about the. Let's go with perplexing Alex Terouze situation two years in the AFL system.

Obviously of high early pick for the Saints two years ago. Still got one year of a contract to run. But was exploring options via a gold coast approach and other conversations around where he was at in the request to have. A recontracting all of him by the Saints. Marty, you've been in this space with young players and you've observed this industry from afar. What did you make it all that conversation? I believe is is a healthy one. But if a player is happy and I can only go on my experience when I've had players in that situation. The first point of contact and call would be for the player to go and talk to the coach straight away. As a pain where you sit, what your role is, what needs to happen? Did you help the player shape that conversation? Absolutely. Like I was always a big believer is one the coach will respect you more. And two, you're cutting out all the middlemen. You're cutting out the manager, cutting out the family, you're cutting out everyone. You're sitting, you're eyeballing the coach and you're saying, Brad, tell me like it is.

How do I get into this side? What do I need to do? How do I need to go about it and what needs to happen? And then from that you work through it. And would you want to be part of those conversations? Absolutely not. But you arrange them through the full operations boss. And that conversation, and I've always had it with, and it should always happen around that midseason meeting. Because if you've genuinely agreed or if you're not agreed at that point and it gets to sort of round 16, 17, 18, have it then. And then you take notes, you talk through it and you're also teaching young men to be able to have difficult conversations and actually own it too. Because it's your career, you've got to own it. Like it's not for the manager to own your career and hide behind it. So then go and dissect that information, find out, then come back, then we'll dissect it together. Then I would follow up with the club and say, um, Brad Johnson's just called me. He said he met with you. This is my understanding how it went. A B C D. We're on the same page. Everyone gets it. Let's get to this certain date. We work to this certain date to make sure we're all on the same page. Then when we get to that certain date, it's either helped hindered, fixed, whatever's happened.

And then you make the educated decision from there. And I feel that that's the best way to do it. It did get messy. It seems as though it has been resolved to a substantial enough way. To come down, isn't it? Yeah. I was never a big fan of touring and I said to this before, I always tried to let, oh, I did. I let clubs know and I know some don't always like to do that or whatever. But I just feel that to your point that the industry has just changed too much. A club's going to meet with players in contract or out of contract. So it's the same for everyone. It's just, it just serves you so much better when you're up front and you talk through situations than, than doing it, you know, um, behind us with Skull Duggery. Yeah. And it just never helps anyone. Yep. That was the news update for everything fleet on this particular hour. Marty, we flag this. Let's have this conversation. Now, bolts on the I-Mart text line has posed a question about the father's son, Compo Picks, for clubs with the first five picks, so the clubs that finish in the last five spots on the letter.

The question goes, if they trade the top five picked, is the Compo go to the original club or the club which traded into the pick? And if it moves, it makes those top five picks worth even more in collateral. Okay. So the rule is clubs that finish in the bottom five of the latter, um, and have their top pick pushed back due to a match bid will be compensated with an extra pick. In the second round. So to give you an example, if you are Essenden and you bid on Cochran at one, port match and use picks four and let's assume they get the five in compensation, port now don't get the pick in the second round. Essenden then would need to hold and select their pick at two. They'll get the pick in the second round. Richmond then select it three. They then get the pick in the second round. Eagles then select it four. They get the pick. Because they're bottom five clubs and you have to hold and select your pick. So no, it's not a pick that can be leveraged to say, hey, we can get you an extra second round pick.

You've actually got to be a club that finishes in the bottom five of the latter and have your top five pick pushed back due to a match bid. And because there's so many changes to this system this year, and as I keep saying, all we seem to be keeping on doing is just introducing another rule to compensate a formally introduced rule, which was already introduced to do something about another rule that was in its infancy. It's confusing, mate. So just remind us right now. And the raw example of this trade period, it's all this free agency period is the Zack Buddies compensation for port. If it goes through as we expect, as a free agency transaction, pick five will go to port outlaid for loss of Zack Buddies to the Western board. Well, that's what we're led to believe. Absolutely. So let's work with that for this conversation. Yeah, can put what can port do with that pick five? Yep. So in advance of the national draft, I mean, advance the national growth. Absolutely. So they can improve their position. So they can go four to five and they can come up the board. If they want, they can slip back. We're talking about they can offer precedent four and five to one.

Absolutely. Absolutely. So they can do that. I would think the way it would would hold would be an essence and would bid on a cocker and I would feel this would be my loose understanding of it at this point in time. But there's obviously a little bit to go. But I would think there would be a bid for cocker and then I feel there probably would be a bid for Walker. And both those clubs pay pay for value. Correct. And then and then you're obviously going to then get the compensation pick in the in the second round. And then obviously then the natural order will go from there. That would be something I would I would anticipate at this stage happening unless you know something wants to go. Array. And that is all about to play out. We feel obviously so free agency open today. Fight out October 90 goes through until sorry October two. It goes through until Friday October nine. And John, you've had a theory and this is the dominant conversation of the 2026 trade period and least on trade radio.

The Zack Budders transaction in port at a late to Western Bulldogs and your view based upon calls and intel and intellect and homework is it will be lodged paperwork wise later in the week. Closer to October nine than today because I've already seen. Well, I just was never I in my opinion I wouldn't have done it today and it's not going to have it. Has happened today. That was always going to be the case get through the weekend and then potentially early next week is a chance where the maybe maybe lodged and and away they they go working out that the scenario with it and the long the longer they wait. Give us it up 48 hours. This has watched Tuesday by Thursday. They've got to have either matched it or said go and put on the red, white and blue. Well, it's known and it's going to happen that the longer they wait suggests to you and others maybe that they are clearly negotiating with Western Bulldogs and other clubs. Well, there's separate there's separate things that are happening in the in the background. Absolutely.

There would be with with all clubs and that in that particular particular space. But we've all known that that Zack wants the best outcome for port at a big discussion about that the other day. And I think most of these star players that have left their free clubs. They all want the best for the club that has put the most amount of time into them to get to them to a stage where they are. They better players within within the competition. You want to be thankful for that. That sounds really nice. And I get it. But it is true though. Yeah, but when they say they want the best for the club that they're leaving the club that they're going to is the body. The organization has to pay for that to be a reality. Yeah, that's right. So the club is going to is on the hook to make him feel better about leaving the club he's leaving. It's worth it around but ultimately that's just the way it always says nice. Yeah, that's the players wanted to say nice. That's so they can go to the best and first and enjoy their night. If he really wanted the best of what I let he would have stayed and I don't get wise leaving.

I get that and he's absolutely given him all he can. But we get a bit cute with this language or reckon that is the language. And you can't do too much massaging. Absolutely. You can't question you can't question it either because these guys are fantastic people as well. I'm not doubting that. I'm not doubting that. And no one's questioning Zach but as a person and he would genuinely want that to be the case. But we do get to cute with it being a driver for him to want to get the absolute best of what I'd like. I mean, he's futures with the Western Bulldogs now. He's on the hook to perform and when a premiership for them there isn't he? So you're a guy's win-win mature conversations. Fantastic dialogue. When you deal it, who gets win-win? What's the win-win about? So someone wins a deal and someone loses it most of the time? Well, last time I checked it was AFL competition. Yeah. And it's okay to try it. But I get what John is saying. And I've been... And look to be honest, I was in that position where I would always try to help exactly that. And you want to be able to look the all parties in the eye once you transact.

A hundred percent. And it swings in roundabouts and I do feel that one day we're talking about Western Bulldogs. Getting a play from Port Adelaide. But I'm sure in years to come it'll turn around the other way. And the Western Bulldogs will have to do something for Port Adelaide. Yep. Let's take a break and then we'll come back to wrap up what has been a really big day.
