Lots and lots of television. I don't watch any anymore, almost none. And have it for quite a few years since I had kids. I don't know if I'll come back to it someday or not. There's more good TV now than there has ever been. There's no doubt about that. The quality.

You got everything archived. I mean, it's like music. Do you want to listen to a great new band? Great. You want to hear Hendrix live track? You want to hear Louis Armstrong? And so, yeah. Yeah. My youngest and I are going through Seinfeld season by season. My oldest and I are going through the sprinnell season by season. And there's just so much good stuff out there that I haven't gotten to yet. And I don't know if I ever will. But the Emmys were last night. They still do the Emmy Awards. They aren't television. Are they aired? They aired on NBC and then you could stream it live on peacock. Of course. Anyway, we got a couple of the speeches. The big winner was Widow's Bay, which I had never even heard the name of. They call it a comedy. Not a man who recently lost his wife, finding his way back to joy and love through the affection of his golden retriever and his new bakery. I thought it was a guy who lost his wife who keeps his boat in a little inlet protected from the

winded waves. Widow's best. No, you're thinking something else. Okay. What is it about Katie brief version? One of the most Emmys any comedies ever won. It's not a freaking comedy. It's not and you know what's on the on the actual cover image that was released before the show came out. It says drama horror and mystery across the bottom comedy is not even mentioned in. So is there some politicking that happens where you think it's more likely we win awards if we call this a comedy and who's to tell us it's not? Is that what's going on there? If we compete in the drama category, it'll be harder to win. I have no idea. That's an interesting question. Winning those awards is huge. Huge, huge, huge, huge. To the likelihood me or lots of like just random regular people you hear it one best this. Not least give that a look. Yeah. It's actually Stephen King-esque story that does have elements of corkiness and humor to it where you've got a well-meaning mayor who's trying to turn his crappy little island into the next Martha's vineyard. Right.

But there's an evil spirit. It's cursed. Sounds funny. And he's trying to convince people, hey, it's not cursed. Everything's fine. Well, like Emmy nominated or Emmy winner is such a draw. So I really like tires because I'm that kind of guy. The comedy. Now that's a comedy. There's no doubt they're going for laughs. But it says I Emmy nominated and I thought, cool. I wonder what they won for because I think it's really, really good. They got nominated for lighting in one episode. So that's their Emmy nominated. I don't know that you should get to call yourself that for that. I've watched several episodes and I could certainly see the characters. And it was well with day time. It looked brighter than the nighttime scenes, but it doesn't strike me as particularly well with. So first we're going to hear from and the skipper to Vince Gilligan of the he won his first writing Emmy. I don't know if he brings the talks about that here. This has got to be one of those. They feel bad that he's never won one.

They got to give him one, right? For whatever his current show is because he is the guy behind Breaking Bad, one of the most popular critically acclaimed shows ever made in the history of looking at things on video, followed by better calls. I'll never want to writing Emmy. Right. Is it even possible? Anyway, here he is. For us, it's so weird. A world in which everybody gets along. It's so sci-fi. But think about it. There is nothing weirder than our current reality. These past 10 years, you can't write this stuff. I submit to you that a real world in which people get along is just as believable as what we've gotten out. And achievable. We will never agree on everything, but we can show respect to one another, maybe even kindness. And we can stop listening to a relative few who tell us that that is for suckers and who get their power from dividing us. My two cents. And I do want to thank Apple TV, Sony Pictures Television and the magnificent Ray C. Horn.

Thank you. I love that. I love that. If in his mind he's not only picturing one side, which I don't know. I'm taking him at face value. I hope so. It seemed to be calling out both sides. Now the people cheering in the audience. They're thinking, yes, those evil conservatives need to stop being so evil. And then we could all come together. Exactly. Just if you just would agree with everything we think, we could get along. One of the funniest people has ever lived is comedian John Malini. And he was the host of the Emmys. I'm out of watch a little of a, if I had known that, but here's some of him doing something. Since the creation of television, men have been historically unrepresented. For the first three years TV existed, there were no men on it. It was just beauty contests and children talking to hand puppets until the early 60s, until a man walked out and said enough. My name is Fonzie and the president spent shot. But let's talk about these bros tonight.

These sweat hogs. Some of the men in this category do method acting and some do regular less annoying acting. But no matter what. When these fellas hit their mark, they know all their lines. Why? Because they started looking at their sides earlier that morning. These men. Excuse me. These men give it all in every single take. Unless the coverage is on the other actor and then they might bounce early. But that's okay. And they can play anything these nominees. Not just doctors. They can play a cop or an FBI agent or a secret agent. And then that's it. No other example. I believe it was DJ Khaled who said real men don't go down on their wives. But. But. These nominees. Know that that is BS. They know.

They're often less pressure on them if they do that first. Wow. What the hell? Oh, that's funny. It's looking unfortunate turn there. He really is one of the funniest people ever. It's delivery on things. And no other examples. There's a horse in the hospital. Right. I love it. He talks about television and movie shows. I like I really liked the like I live giving example. I really liked the sound of music because I was not good at sports. Oh. It reminds me of one of the thing as maybe going to bring to the air. I saw. Why do I have a mental blank on this guy? He was can in the Barbie movie. That's Ryan Gosling. Is that his name? I get him mixed up with another. That sounds right. I don't know actors. Wow. There's nobody on the show that knows off the top of their head who Ken was in the Ken and

Barbie movie. That's interesting. We're not a pop culture show. Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling. Anyway, I find I think he's really good and he is hilarious. And every time he hosts Saturday and live, it's must see. But I saw an interview with him the other day about becoming a movie star TV star. And he was talking about when you're up and coming. I thought it was really interesting about. Because he, like most people went there and took a long, long, long time to catch on. But he said, you drive clear across town for an hour and a half in traffic, park a half a mile away, go in and see a giant room full of people who look exactly like you. And then you wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and know that they've already picked the person because you saw one famous person that's going to get the part. But you think I better go in there and do it anyway. And you go in in the middle of your crying scene, the person that's watching you making the decisions gets a phone call so you have to stop. And then they take their phone call and then they come back and say, pick up where you left off. And then you try to get back into it again.

And you know you didn't get the park and you go back out to your car and you got a ticket because it's L.A. And you got your parking ticket and you drive two and a half hours to another place to do it again. That's what it's like to try to make it in Hollywood. And I thought that is so good. Especially because he is breathtakingly, you know perfectly attractive. He's like an AI creation of good looking. He's like a walk into a room full of people who look exactly like you do. But that's shocking the first time it happens to you when you're a man or a woman. Your whole life. You've been the best looking person in every room you've ever been in. Then all of a sudden wait a second. There's a hundred people there that look exactly like me. Yeah. Just listening to that. A lot of us have had experiences like that. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Just hearing it. Never mind. Living out. Yeah. How many people would give up after doing that like twice? I thought that was a good little, you know, bitty through it and you walk all the way out to your car and you got a parking ticket under the windshield.

Oh, after the humiliating experience of nobody giving a crap. Well, it's a lottery ticket. But to get in the lottery, you have to, you know, try to outshine them if you can't outshine them out work them. If you cannot work them out last them and then get crazy lucky. That was one of the reasons I gave up on the music business. That lack of talent. I saw a couple of bands get major labels, deals, then get dropped for the most idiotic of reasons. And it just went curblui. And they're standing there looking around like, what the hell just happened? Yeah. And I thought no freaking way. Yeah, it's friends with the guys of guys. That and the lack of talent. Yes. I was friends with the guys who got a book by major label and then the music changed. They got book 12 music was a certain thing. Be like here, you know, like the next Nirvana Pearl Jam that he didn't, what I don't know, 94, 95. They're like, now we're done with that. We're moving on to something else. Wait. No, no, we want kind of a weasier sign. But that's not what you do. Sorry. You're done.

Back when we decided that we were going to do what we wanted to do no matter what any executive or consultant told us to do, which made us so many friends. I remember we talked about music. I can't remember what band it was. It might have been some of the guys in R.E.M. or something. We're talking about how if you try to figure out what's popular and become that band, 19 times out of 20, you'll be too late. And just as you're getting known as a hair metal band, hair metals out and you've wasted all that time. So you might as well just do what you want to do and hope the world comes around to you or people decide they like you or whatever. The the chasing what's hot thing is just it does not work usually. Well, I guess that's it. This is Tony A.O. from the real report with Tony A.O. and Uncle Murder.
