What's going on guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Carver Podcast. I'm Bryce and today we are going to be talking about judgment day. Jesus talked about judgment day in Matthew chapter 7. What should we expect? What is it going to look like in the end? I'm going to try to help fill in some gaps here. Hopefully we can see what that looks like. But I think it's important to establish who gets the right to judge because now the most quoted verse out of all the scripture ironically is not Jesus wept. It's not John 316. It's actually, hey, well do not judge. You're not allowed to judge. Do not judge. That's the thing. And so if we're so worried about arguing which that's like a whole not another conversation for another time. But if we're so worried about who's judging, then we should be a little concerned about who's judging on judgment day. And the gospel of John in chapter 5 verse 22 it actually tells us that the father has given the authority to the son to judge. On judgment day, God the father has trusted Jesus Christ
to judge the earth. He ate trusted Buddha. He has entrusted Muhammad. And he sure as heck has entrusted Joseph Smith. Nobody is judging except Jesus Christ. Point blank period. He is the one that is judging on the throne. He is the one that is going to call the shots because what he is righteous in nature. Acts 17 actually tells us that he judges in righteousness. So Christ is holy. We believe that God is a holy righteous perfect God who is sovereign, who is all powerful. He is the only one that is allowed to make the ultimate decision on the throne. So like before you go down the little rabbit holes of what happens to the person in the Amazon tribe of 12 people when they have their own language and whatever blah, blah, blah. You have to understand this. If we believe God is all powerful, all just, all loving, then we have to trust in the little nuanced scenarios that God is going to judge each scenario in a just way.
We have to trust it because we are trusting in God. Now the beauty of that is like the book of Revelation would say every nation, tribe, and tongue will be represented in heaven which gives me hope for even that isolated tribe. But that's besides a point. As when we know that Jesus Christ is the judge, that should give us two things. Number one, comfort. Because God is perfect. He's righteous. Knowing that Christ sits on the throne and he's the one calling the shots, that is such a big comfort piece. But second, that should get the fear of the Lord. You know what more people should be convicted of? They should be convicted of feeling the fact that people feel conviction when they're in scenarios of like conquering their biggest fear, whether it be like they get on a plane. You know, like I don't know about you, but it's like every time I sit in a plane, like I repent five times. You know what I mean? Like I'm talking to myself. It's like we shouldn't just be convicted of sin when we feel like our life is on the line. Knowing that Christ is sitting on the throne should give us a holy reverence and fear of God
to such a place where we say, oh snap, no, we should want to live a holy set-apart life that is consecrated for God because he sits on the throne. And actually the book of Romans would tell you and I that our faith fuels the works. Our faith is actually the thing that fuels the works that we do. Whether it be feeding the homeless, serving those loving others, whatever it may be. So like if you, if your life doesn't look different before you claim to have met Jesus until after you claim to met Jesus and you might be following a different Jesus and you might be genuinely shocked at who's sitting on the throne judging you when you die. And so before we get into the nitty gritty, Jesus is the one on the throne that should give you and I some hope. Now, when we're talking about death here, the Bible would describe death. There's two deaths that happen that the Bible described. Physical death. So when this physical body passes away, that's the first death. The second death is spiritual death. If you were someone that would be condemned to separation from God.
Now we're going to get to like the one of the scariest truth about hell here in a little bit. But there's three types of groups that are going to be judged. On judgment day. The first is going to be non-believers, which Revelation actually tells us a little bit about that. Revelation 20 verse 11. This is what it says about non-believers. It says, then I saw Paul, I'm sorry, not Paul. John is writing this, then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence, earth and sky fled away and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small standing before the throne and books were open. Then another book was open, which is the book of life, which I don't know. If you guys don't know this, you should want your name written in that book. You want your name written in the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books according to what they had done. So John is seeing a vision of both people that are currently alive that are standing before the great white throne judgment. And then he's seeing a group of people
that have already passed away. And there's books everywhere. And it's got records of wrong in there. Records of wrong. And they're being judged by the record of wrong. You know, I think it's second Corinthians. Second Corinthians, the first Corinthians. One of them, it actually tells us that every human being will have to stand before God and give an account for their life. The every thought, word and action that you have spoken done, everything is written in a book and you will have to hold an account. And so right now, John is saying, yeah, I'm seeing people great and small in all these books and it has each record of wrong in these books. And here's what it says, and the sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. And they were judged each one of them according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. What is John telling us right now? If you die, not putting faith in trust in Jesus Christ, if you die, wanted to live your own way,
the reality is, breaks God's heart, but you will be separated from God for an eternity. That the lake of fire, aka hell, is where someone will go if they don't have faith in trust in Jesus Christ. And you know what, one of the scariest truths about hell is? Like yes, hell is both the justice system. Right? God is judging them. And God has the authority to judge because this is his world. This is his world. We are his creation. We have chosen to rebel against him. He has every right to judge. But the scariest truth about hell is, yes, it's a justice system. But the people that go to hell want to be there. And that's like a crazy thing to say, what do you mean the people that go to hell want to be there? Yeah, because in this life, they actively blasphemed God by rejecting the nudging of the Holy Spirit in life. In this life, they chose to live how they wanted to live in every single time that a non-believer rejected God in their heart beginning to get calloused and calloused and calloused and calloused. And this is why you should be careful for all the sins that you commit
that you don't feel convicted about every single time. God watched the human being, his creation, his beloved, made in his image, reject him in their heart, they calloused and calloused and calloused and calloused. It breaks his heart so much so that when they died, he is so just it broke his heart, but they chose to be there. And if you look at the story, I think it's Luke chapter 18, the rich man, the rich man and Lazarus, you know, when Lazarus, I mean, sorry, now, when not when Lazarus, when the rich man is in hell, crying out for relief, he says, just dip water on my tongue. I'm suffering in here. Hell is going to be firing. It's going to be burning. There's going to be weeping and gnashing of teeth in there. But it's also going to be without God's presence. That's what's going to suck the most about hell. Is that even if someone goes their whole life as the angriest atheist who doesn't think God exists, they're going to stand before God in every knee, we'll bow and every tongue will confess that he is Lord. And they're going to see the most beautiful, magnificent being that they've ever seen in their life
and then they're separate from it for an eternity. Hey, I want to talk about something real for a second and I want to talk to a specific person right now. If you've been trying to get free from corn and you keep finding yourself right back in the same place, I want to encourage you. Do not give up. James 516 says, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. There's something powerful about bringing what is hidden into the light and inviting other people into the fight with you. That's why I want to tell you about victory by covenant eyes. Again, that is covenant eyes.com code Bryce30. But the scariest truth is that the people that go to hell want to be there. They chose that life. Yes, it's a justice system. But they actively rejected God. If you look at the rich man in Luke chapter 18, he asked for relief on a song. Why didn't the rich man ask to be taken out of hell? I've always wondered that. Why is it that the rich man never asked not even one singular time to be taken out of hell? He wants to relief. Go warn my friends and my family but he doesn't ask to be taken out of himself. When you think that he would be thinking about himself, why is that? I don't know. Maybe it's because the people in hell want to be there. Now the second group of people, there's three groups that will be judged on judgment. The second group of people are the people that pose as believers. Jesus warns us in Matthew chapter 70. He says, on that day, many will come to me. I say, well Lord, did I not prophesy your name? Did I not cast out demons in your name?
Did I not do my work? Did your name? He's going to say depart for me if I never knew you. There are going to be people who think that they are secure in Jesus because of what they've done and not what he's done. That sounds so funny. He said, there's going to be people that think they're secure in Jesus because of what they've done. Paul warned us about this. If getting to heaven had anything to do with what we do then we would have something to boast about. It wouldn't be just Jesus. It would be Jesus and. No, it's all Jesus. He paid the price. He's the reason that we cross the finish line. And life doesn't just begin when we die. Life begins the day that we accept Jesus Christ. So if you are waiting to go, to quote, unquote, go to heaven because of your physical suffering or your mental suffering, let me give you a perspective shift here. It's not about getting across a finish line is when life begins, life begins the day that you get Jesus. But there's going to be a group of people and maybe you're in this category where you think you're all right. Just because you've done, oh, I read a devotional every month and I listen to a podcast. I listen to the Bryce Crawford podcast every morning
when I drive to school. So I'm good at making it across the finish line. Or I go to church every Sunday, not just on Easter or Christmas. I go every Sunday even in the summertime and I'm at Wednesday night. But if your faith is built on all that, you could totally miss the mark. You could be missing Jesus because you could be so paranoid about, oh, I can't miss next week. I can't miss next week or I can't miss the next devotional or whatever it may be. You could be so paranoid. And even Revelation 3 to the church of Leo Decia. John says, if you were a lukewarm in your faith neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth. The craziest thing to me is that there is a set of people who claim to be Christian, who think that they can get by by sitting on the fence. You see, there's an analogy about a man who had a dream. And in this dream, this dream was in a large grass field and it was split by a fence and on one side of the fence was Satan
and on the other side of the fence was God. And Satan looks at him and he says, you got to choose one of us, which you want. Do you want me? I'll give you whatever you want. But him, he won't give you what you want. He'll just give you what you need. Which one do you want? Which one do you want? And the man looks at Satan and Jesus and he laughs at both of them and he sits on the fence. Because he wants a little bit of what he wants and then he wants a little bit of Jesus and he's laughing and mocking them and laughing and mocking them and then bang, it goes black in the dream. And as a darkness, Satan comes out into the darkness and he grabs a man's shoulder and the man goes, no, no, no, I didn't choose you. I didn't choose Jesus either. I sat on the fence because I'm one of the best of both worlds and Satan grabs a man's shoulder harder and he says, the fence belongs to me. Are your ad campaigns lighting up the dashboard? Oh, that smells lucky. Hilton's unmatched hospitality can keep up with any superstition. Even a marching bandwick up call it $555.55 seconds. Hit it! When you need a team that will do whatever it takes on game day, it matters where you stay. Hilton, for this day. I have found that when people ask me, Rice, do you believe in once saved, always saved? They're asking that question oftentimes all the time, oftentimes with this new wants. That they want to know if just because they pray to prayer that they're good. Or just because they know that they have X, Y, and Z
sin struggle in their life. And they don't want to give it up yet. They want to know if they're going to be okay. They have a lot of money. They have an unrepentant sin struggle in their life that they don't want to give up. But they just want to make sure that the magic spell of a prayer that they prayed. And then there's going to be a third group. That will stand before God. His believers. And the Old Testament would tell us that God drops our sin in the sea of forgetfulness as if it never happened. Those record of books that we read about in Revelation 20 that the non-believers would be judged by their record of wrong. See, that's not seen in the picture with the believers. But you know what's interesting is that Paul actually writes, I think it's to the Church of Corinth and first Corinthians where he says, all of our, everything that we've done is a believer, gold, silver, bronze, hay, straw, whatever will be tried by fire.
You know what that is? That is our works. And the work's done for the glory of God will survive the purification and the work's done in vain, will be burned away. And you know what the beauty is about getting to live for Christ in this life? It's that when we get to heaven, we have a crown to lay at his feet. Let our good works be shown before men, the Bible says, so that it gives glory to our Father who's in heaven, not yourself. The whole reason that your faith fuels your works is so that, A, it can point people to heaven, but B, we have something to give him when we cross the finish line. God, this is your crown because I wouldn't have done this without you. I wouldn't have changed without you. And that's what bothers me so much about online when people get so upset that the most extreme people come to know Jesus Christ. That's what bothers me so much. It's because only God could do something like that and that gives glory to God. And their life is going to be a living testimony to the goodness of God.
And every good deed that they do not invade before his glory will be laid at his feet saying, God, it's only because of you that I could do this. And you know, I think we hear about judgment day and we get scared or whatever it may be, but we should not be scared because we are united with God again. The separation that happened in the garden will no longer be more and there will no longer be weeping or gnashing of teeth. That the last year will be shed. And new heaven and new earth will come and we will be with God for an eternity. Let me pray for you. Jesus right now, thank you for everyone listening to this. And there's three things I want to pray for, Lord. Number one, I want to pray for endurance for the believer. For the one to not leave the faith, for the one to not backside, but God for holy endurance and strength from the spirit. Number two, I want to pray for holy conviction and the people posing as believers, God would you convict their life and their lifestyle and they don't think that they're just quote unquote,
okay, because I pray to prayer because of the things that they do, Lord, would you would you convict them to be all in? And Lord, lastly, I pray for laborers to reach the lost. I pray for laborers to reach those who are currently on their path to destruction, eternal damnation, God, would you reach those people, Lord? We love you and thank you. And Jesus name.
