Welcome to his like your path with Pastor Rod Holler Sr. Today's devotional is titled
The Strength of Samson. When we think of Samson we picture a man with incredible strength,
lifting city gates, fighting off enemies, doing things that seem almost impossible.
But have you ever wondered where his strength really came from? Was Samson just a man with
big muscles? Or was there something more behind his power? Today Pastor Holler will show
where Samson's real strength came from? Samson was chosen by God to deliver Israel
from the Philistine bondage. In his life he did many incredible feats of strength. For example,
judges 163 and Samson lay till midnight and arose at midnight and took the doors of the gate
of the city and the two posts and went away with them bar and all and put them upon his
shoulders and carried them up to the top of an hill which is before he brawn.
But was he really endowed with big muscles? If big muscles are the source of our spiritual success
then we may as well go to the gym rather than go to the church.
Consider Paul's words to Timothy comparing physical strength with spiritual strength.
First Timothy 4, 7, and 8. But reviews profane and old wives' fables and exercise
thyself rather unto ungodliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little. But godliness is profitable
unto all things, having promise of the life that is now and of that which is to come.
So why is it that God gave such physical strength to Samson?
I am convinced that Samson did not have big muscles. He probably was a diminutive man,
small of stature. Remember that God empowers people to do his well. Let us consider
first Corinthians chapter 1, verses 26-29. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many
wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called. But God hath chosen the
foolish things of the world to confound the wise. And God hath chosen the weak things of the world
to confound the things which are mighty. And the base things of the world, and things which are
despised, hath God chosen. Ye and things which are not to bring to not, things that are,
that no flesh should glory in his presence. If Samson had big muscles, then why did the Philistines
bribe Delilah to find the source of strength? They would have looked at him and given the credit
to his powerful physique. Instead, they solicited Delilah to find the source.
Judges 16, verse 5. And the lords of the Philistines came up under her, and said under her,
and tice him, and see where in his great strength lieeth. And by what means, we may prevail against
him, that we may bind him and afflict him, and we will give thee every one of us 1100 pieces of
silver. Samson's strength came from the Spirit of the Lord. Judges 14, verse 6. And the Spirit of
the Lord came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in
his hand. But he told not his father or his mother what he had done. And let us read Judges 1419,
and the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew 30 men of them,
and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them, which expounded the riddle,
and his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.
And Judges 15, verse 14. And when he came to Lehigh, the Philistines shouted against him,
and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became
his flacks, that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
Samson's strength came from the Spirit of the Lord, and we have access to that same strength.
Philippians 413, I can do all things through Christ with strength and with me.
That wraps up today's devotional, the strength of Samson with Pastor Holler.
We learned that Samson's power wasn't about his muscles or his size.
It was the Spirit of the Lord who gave him strength. God loves to use ordinary people in
extraordinary ways so that no one can boast in their own abilities. Just as Samson's strength
came from God, we too can rely on Christ, who gives us the strength we need for our daily lives.
