Yesterday Donald Trump told a story that he's told before: he was rescued by New York firefighters on 9/11, with them carrying him out of harms way. There is no evidence that this happened, but he will seemingly take any chance he can get to insert himself into a story. Even Ted Cruz is defending him. Rudy Giuliani, mayor of NYC during 9/11, didn't want current Mayor Zohran Mamdani to appear during this year's 25th anniversary of the tragedy. Could this be anything other than Islamophobia? Join Don and guests to break this down. 🍋

Hello, everybody. Welcome to Hot P-N-A-N. The Don Leman Show, 10 A.M. Eastern Time here on the East Coast, in New York. Make sure you hit the like and the thumbs up. It is really important. I'm glad that you're here. I have some very important information and serious information to discuss. I see that South Carolina is in the chat, so is Cincinnati. And let's go because I have a guest. Scotland is here. I have a guest who is going to talk to us about something that's very serious. Okay. Okay. So Donald Trump has told a lot of stories,
like and thumbs up, please, if it affects the algorithm. Donald Trump has told us a lot of stories over the years, but this latest one about September 11th, 2001, is a doozy. Because 25 years later, the president is now telling America that after the attacks, two big, strong, you know, he has a big, strong story. New York firefighters, especially, picked him up and carried him to safety because they thought a nearby building was about to collapse. Okay. So yes, Donald Trump says that firefighters carried him. And because this is Trump, he even makes a point of telling us how difficult that supposedly was because in his own words, he says, you know, I'm big. Take a look. If you get too farman, we thought it was coming down on top of us and too farman. Big, strong guys. And I'm not the smallest guy in the world. They grabbed me under the arm, said, gotta get out of here. And they literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do. I'm big. They lifted me up and they started running with me.
I said, fellas, I can run myself. But they were amazing, but they thought it was coming down. It didn't come down. You asked you. Okay. So, come on. Do you remember I saw all of the Arabs or folks or whatever he said, celebrating in New Jersey. I don't know how he saw that from Trump. There's a wait. We're going to speak to a woman who's out on the street. I did some hand in the street. They're going to tell you how they feel about this. But this is just one pretty enormous problem. And his, and his pretty enormous story. One pretty enormous problem. Where's the evidence of that? Where is it? Who were these firefighters? When exactly did this happen? Where exactly was Trump? And why 25 years after one of the most documented events in modern American history, why are we still trying to separate fact from fiction when Donald Trump talks about his own supposed role in 9-11? Because the other time, Trump has also repeatedly claimed that
he brought a large crew of his workers downtown to help help after the attacks. Why do you want to come down here today? I have about 100 men working down here. So just to spare them on. Hi, folks. I have over 100 people out. I hear doing an amazing job. So I just want to give him some support. Now, let me say this loud and clear. There has never been any evidence what so ever that Trump personally organized a crew to participate in the rescue and recovery effort there. And here's why that matters to everyone, to all of us. This isn't Trump exaggerating the size of a crowd. This isn't him bragging about his golf game. This is everyone September 11. Firefighters actually did carry people to safety. Firefighters actually did run towards buildings that were collapsing. And 343 firefighters were killed that day.
So when you insert yourself into that problem, when you tell America that firefighters were literally carrying people to safety or you to safety, you better be damn sure that you can back it up. Because of heroes of September 11, they don't need Donald Trump writing himself into their story. They don't need that. They already have their own names attached to this. Now, I feel a certain kind of way about this as a New Yorker, as someone who's lived here since the 90s. We talk a lot about stolen valor. There are people who get in trouble. There are people who suffer enormous consequences for stolen valor. There are people who suffer enormous consequences for making things up that were not embellishing or exaggerating.
This is something that does not sit well with many New Yorkers. And they want the story straight. What exactly happened? Why is he saying this story by all accounts making this up when he actually called in? I don't do. We have the call in when he calls into picks 11. We can find the X 11. He called in the X 11 on that day. You have that day, but let me see. This is he hit the streets earlier. We hit the streets earlier and we ask some pretty simple questions here. Do you believe Donald Trump? Watch this. What do you think? I mean, just add it to the list of all the lies that he's had basically. Not shocking to you. No, I mean, that's all he's good at that. So. Is it insulting to the people who are involved? I'm sure it is. I mean, I'm not directly involved. I can't speak on their behalf. So. What? Okay. I gotta go to work now. Thank you. Have a good day. Yeah.
And she's not the only one. Here's another. I'm great. Have you seen this? Donald Trump says he was rescued from 9-11. I had not. It's not true. He was not. I believe that's not true. What do you think of that? Yeah, actually said this at a 9-11 memorial. It's infuriating, but I'm so disentitized because everything he says is infuriating. I'm kind of, I don't know, loss of words. Nothing would say surprises me. Do you think anything should be done about it? I'm surprised people are not more outraged. Imagine if it was Biden or Obama. So he removes unquestionably. He should be removed. Why? Why? Many reasons. You can start with this. No, I agree. Not just this. Of course not. No. What do you think about Rudy Giuliani and some of the 9-11 family members not wanting Mamdani to attend the...
It's very complicated. I'm not a fan of Rudy Giuliani. But the situation is very complicated. Oh, so. I'm good. Well, thank you. So it is a very complicated situation. And that's why we wanted to talk to New Yorkers about it. And I have more from New Yorkers in just moments. But there's... I wanted to talk about Rudy Giuliani because he has not really shut up about this significant moment as well. And Rudy Giuliani has spent 25 years trying to convince most of us at September 11th with somehow his greatest personal achievement. Now, I want to be fair because I was a New Yorker under Rudy Giuliani's mayoral when he was a mayor. But I think Rudy Giuliani is holding on to this and he's no longer the man that he was.
All of us are going to suffer the messages or the ravages if you want to put it that way of age. His leadership immediately after the attacks was widely praised. New York was traumatized. America was terrified and Rudy Giuliani became one of the most visible faces of a city trying to hold itself together. He deserves credit for that definitely. So, but now can we stop pretending that this man somehow owned September 11th? Because the reason that I want to talk about this and that I'm frustrated about it is because we're not talking about the folks that we should be talking about. And those are the people who actually were down there helping the people who were down there who are suffering diseases and cancer and all types of things that they don't even know what happened. This is what happened that day.
Nearly 3,000 people were murdered. Families were destroyed. Firefighters and cops ran into buildings, rescue workers trying to save the lives of complete strangers. And as we know so many of them never came back. Thousands more got sick years later that toxic dust. And somehow out of all that death, grief and devastation, Rudy Giuliani has somehow built his personal brand on that. America's mayor, the hero of 9-11. The hero of ground zero. But Rudy Giuliani, enough is enough. You were the mayor of New York. You did your job. You didn't carry those survivors out of the Twin Towers. But apparently Rudy Giuliani thinks that he somehow has ownership of this again. I think that Rudy Giuliani deserves credit. But for him, he's leading a petition now for the mayor not to attend the memorial.
And that's a tough one. As you heard that New Yorker say that this is a very complicated matter. And I understand that for New Yorkers. However, the mayor was 9 years old at the time. And I don't believe that the mayor had anything to do with what happened at those buildings. He's not asking to speak. He's asking to show up as a leader of the city and pay his respects. For that. So let me bring in now something that I want to discuss. I want to discuss the people who should be discussed now. And I want to talk about Donald Trump. And whether this is somehow stolen valor or whatever, there is no evidence that what Donald Trump is saying is true. John Field, the Field Good Foundation, joins us now. He was, he's an advocate for first responders. And let me just say of this because I'm going to make a donation just as soon as I'm done with this, to the Field Good Foundation. I think it's going to be put that up. It's the Field Good Foundation.
And so John, good morning to you. Thank you for what you did on that day. Thank you for what you continue to do. And I hope everyone who's here donates to the Field Good Foundation. How you doing? Tired, disappointed, but have hope. And I appreciate you having me. And it's good to see you again. It's good to see you. Why are you? Why are you frustrated, John? Well, you know, the last week and a half two weeks has been nothing but 9-11 events interviews. And it takes its toll, but I'm never going to complain to the plunge where I'm pulling me. So many people are suffering right now. And so much news is breaking between what Mayor Mancami did yesterday at the press conference. And I was there with John still with. And then I wrote an op-ed in the USA today about how Secretary Kennedy's hurting this administration. Then I'm getting a thousand questions about Donald Trump and his plight out blatant lies.
9-11 is sacred to us. It's the single most historic day in the history of this nation. And at least in my lifetime. And elected officials are pooping on it. I'm listening, John. Yeah, you know, Mayor Mancami released in 170 documents, 170,000 documents. That's great. It shows transparency. There's no smoking gun in there. We knew that we were sick. People had approved that we weren't sick. But they knew. Rudy Giuliani is not America's mayor. I don't, you know, that's like, he told Donald to something that's a lifetime ago, like Al Bundy's scoring four touchdowns in high school. I'm married with children. I find it comical and I find it sad that this man is challenging the current mayor on whether to be there or not. I find it
sad that they use a 9-11 to attack someone who was 9 years old on 9-11. And he knows somebody who said something outrageous. I know a lot of people, you know a lot of people. We all know a lot of people to say stupid things. With that being said, there's nothing in those documents that are going to shock the world. I've seen them. But what bothers me, Don, is if the city would have said, yeah, the air wasn't safe, they would have put in safeguards to protect the people of Lohm and Hatton, those that worked on the pile. So instead of me making 400 trips to DC, maybe I only would have made 150. Instead of 10,000 people that are now dead from a 9-11 related illness, maybe there only be 3,000. Instead of me having 2400 meetings, maybe I only would have had 800 meetings, if they would have passed legislation sooner and put in the safeguards in Lohm and Hatton to protect the citizens and survivors of those who lived the work that went to school in Lohm and Hatton. So yeah,
I'm a little agitated. And then you got a secretary of health who is gutting NIOSH who oversees the World Trade Center Health Program, which treats over 155,000 people. 57,000 of those 155,000 have a certified 9-11 related cancer. Secretary Kennedy is uniquely grossly unqualified to work in government at any level. I want to play this for you, John, because I think it sort of sums up what New Yorkers have to say. And I like getting out to talk to people on the street, as you know, into talking to, I believe, the real New Yorkers. These are the real poll numbers. When people say, we were outpolling this, but they go out and talk to them. This is what one New Yorker said about, not only about Trump and his lies, but also about Giuliani and Mungdani. Here it is. Well, it's another horrible lie. I mean, what do we expect? It's Donald Trump. He lies like he breathes. Yeah. He lies like he breathes? All the time. Everything he says is a falsity. Everything,
everything he's done with Epstein, all the women that he's abused over the years, the trust he's abused in us over the years, the way he's gutting the federal government of resources and money and lining his own pockets and those of his children, the way he has a Supreme Court on a leash, it's crazy. And he just lies and lies and lies. Do you think something is up with him because he seems to be lying at even more rapid succession than before? Well, I've heard about prefrontal dementia as encouraging people. It allows them to have fantasies that they believe deeply. Perhaps he really believes he was there on that day. Yeah. But he wasn't. Yeah. This is kind of 25th Amendment stuff. Yeah. You think it's insulting to the people who actually suffered and died some of them in 9-11? Absolutely. And it's insulting to everyone who's American. Regardless of where they were born, what religion they believe, what religion they follow,
it's insulting to human beings with hearts. What do you think Rudy Giuliani and their others are saying that the mayor should not attend the 9-11 ceremony? What do you think? I think I'm not surprised that they would say that. Given the number of lies that Rudy Giuliani has peddled over the years, the latest being released now in the air quality downtown. I witnessed it from the Rufan 8th Street of my apartment and saw how much smoke. There wasn't what it smelled like and they they cover that up for years. I applaud Merrimont Dani for seeking to release that and get that truth out there. Do you think not wanting him to go? You think it's Islamophobia? I don't know what's in Giuliani's heart, but everything he's done publicly would tell me it's Islamophobia. There are other family members of 9-11 victims who are saying the same thing. I've heard the same thing some of the first responders, their spouses. It's a tragedy that their husbands' wives are
no longer with us and they died on that day, but a 9-year-old child living in America at the time was certainly not responsible in any way for 9-11 and I find it appalling that they would they would criticize him for speaking at 9-11. He is the mayor. He's the mayor and I've lived in the city for 35 years and he's really the most human, wonderful mayor I've seen in that time. Pretty pretty amazing what he's doing to pull the city together. Little things every day. Thank you. Thank you very much. Nice to meet you. So that's New Yorkers. That's not the only one I spoke to John. Look, Rudy Giuliani didn't just attack his politics. He compared him to the terrorists who attacked this country. I'm sorry and I hate to use this language, but what the actual fuck is wrong with Rudy Giuliani and what do you think of what that New Yorker said? A Muslim man becomes a mayor of the country's biggest city and then he wants to stand up at ground zero in the city that he you know alongside the victims and the families and the survivors and the first responders
of city that he was a duly elected mayor and you're telling him he can't go because Rudy Giuliani for some reason is attacking him and trying to to connect him to what happened that awful day. Well, one, I would if I met that New Yorker that you just interviewed I would tap him up and give him a good New York hug because he was spied on. There's nothing I can add to that. Rudy Giuliani's literally hanging on by it the red. You know, Rudy Giuliani is trying to get in the World Trade Center health program now because of his illnesses. Governor Pataki is trying to get into the World Trade Center health program because of his illnesses. These men now have respiratory illnesses because of the lies they said 25 years ago and shame on them because it's full circle. It's calmer and I don't feel bad for them and I'm not going to lose sleep over them. I cannot emphasize enough that Rudy Giuliani is a lawyer. I cannot emphasize enough that Donald
Trump is a lawyer and this has nothing nothing to do with politics. I am an independent local Republican conservative Democrat. I vote across party lines on both sides who I think is the best candidate and Rudy Giuliani is not America's mayor. He's Al Bandai trying to hold on to that poor game that foretouching on game that he scored 40, you know, 40 years ago and I find it sad and pathetic that we're talking about this 48 hours before the most horrific day in the history of this nation. And let me tell you something 25 years ago on September 12th, it didn't matter if you were Black, white, Muslim, Catholic, Jewish. We were all united not as Americans but as human beings and because of poor leadership, because of bad politics, because of corruption, where I will now point in fingers because we're tribal and if we don't fit each other's narrative, we dismiss you or attack you with avengements and nobody wants to have the difficult conversation.
Here's the difficult conversation. What did Rudy Giuliani do for us other than life? Nobody can answer that. What? What has Donald Trump done for us? You know, the 9-11 communities are finite number. We're getting smaller. We're not getting bigger. We're dying every day. But America is on fire. We're just a small percentage of what America is going through. So what has this administration done to help the American people? I'll wait. No, exactly. Nobody can answer these questions. When I have Rudy Giuliani has no substance, he can't go toe to toe with man mandami on substance. So what's the next best thing? Attack them for every legion because of their skin color. That is the most shallow immature pathetic repulsive, repugnant thing you can actually do. So instead of opening your mouth and have head going down the Saudi ahead, just go away and don't
be seen again. John, I'm not done. If you can give me just a moment, I want to ask you about some other things, about what you're doing and reflect on 25 years later. I got to get this word in from our sponsors, which will help folks who are dealing with health issues. And that's why we partnered with chapter. Have you ever made a decision and then you found out you later didn't have all the information? Well, we've all been there. You sign up for something then you discover that there was a better option that you didn't even know about. That's why I want to tell you about chapter. When it comes to Medicare, some agents push certain Medicare Advantage plans even when they're not right for you because those plans pay them more. Chapter does it differently. They're the only Medicare advisor that compares every plan nationwide. So you can actually see all your options before you decide. And that can mean real money. Chapter members save about $1,100 a year on average. One member of our audience saved $6,000 a year on prescriptions alone after
speaking with chapter. So if you're turning 65 or already on Medicare, talk to chapter. It's free and they can review your options in about 20 minutes. So call 212-931-0855 or go to ask chapter.org slash Don. Do it today. And thank you to our sponsors. They keep us powered and we need that because we're independent journalists and and you know we don't have the big contracts but we tell it like it is and we get out and talk to the folks who speak. Speaking of John Feele today, he was down at 9.11 and 25 years later still suffering what happened there. He was a 9.11 first responder. He is a first responder advocate. He worked at ground zero as a demolition supervisor when an 8,000-pound steel beam crushed his foot. He founded the FeelGood Foundation to lobby the U.S. Congress for Healthcare Funding and support for ailing 9.11 rescue workers, survivors and volunteers. And as soon as I'm done with this program, I am going to donate to the FeelGood
Foundation and you should as well. 25 years later, how are you guys doing? You know it's it's worry involvement for the worst time. It's not getting better because age is catching up to 9.11 responses and with all these illnesses, they don't have the same immune system as they did in their 20s, 30s and 40s. And a lot of people are sick and a lot of people are dying. You know come the day of remembrance on Friday. It's the one day out of the year I don't advocate and I remember the life we lost the census violence. I remember the heroes that ran at the home's way and never went home. And I remember those who got sick and died or are sick and are still suffering. And this year the 9.11 memorial is adding a 7th bell, a 7th toll with a bell. Every year since it's in section, they've been doing 6 tolls with a bell. When the towels were hit, when they came down and changed will and Pentagon. Now they're adding a 7th bell to those who went to ground zero
and went home, got sick and died or are still sick and are dying. And that toll of the bell is going to represent the past, present and future in the 9.11 community. And it gives those affected by 9.11 who are still here or passed away validity. And acceptance that we are now part of something special. And while it took 25 years to do this, it's the best time now to do it because of all the events in this world. John, thank you. I'd think about you often, but I'll be thinking about you. I thought more this week. And I'm glad that we're back in touch. Will you will you stay close? And I'd love to have you come back on. I'd love to help you guys out in any way. You got John Stewart. You may not need me. I'm just a small little peon. But I really I thank you. And again, the foundation is the field foundation. Have you produced this? I mean, your address. And I'll send you a book out today. Thank you very much. John, feel everyone.
Thank you, hero. That's a hero. Rudy Giuliani, not a hero. Donald Trump, not a hero. As a matter of fact, this is what now he said that he was down there, right? This is actually where Donald Trump was during 9-11. And this is the evidence that he was not there. Roll it. And I have an apartment where I'm viewing the world trend center from midtown. No, India. But it's a far one of the buildings. 100. Did you have any damage or did you know what what's happened down there? Well, it was an amazing phone call. I made 40 Wall Street actually was the second tallest building in downtown Manhattan. And it was actually before the World Trade Center was the tallest. And then when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second tallest. And now it's the tallest. And I just spoke to my people and they said it's the most unbelievable site. This episode is sponsored by Better Health. Now people ask me sometimes, how do you turn it off? And the answer is I don't always,
especially when my work is like right here on my phone. I'm always picking it up. I'm not the only one I know. I spend hours every day talking about some pretty heavy stuff, politics, violence, people losing people they love. And then the show ends and the cameras go off and you're supposed to just move on with your day. But I've gotten better at recognizing that you have to take care of what's going on in your life, especially up here too, right? And that's why I think therapy can be so important. Sometimes you need somebody who isn't your spouse, your family, your friend, or somebody you work with, somebody whose job it is to listen and help you work through your own stuff. And that's where Better Health comes in. Better Health makes therapy accessible online. And they can match you with a licensed therapist based on what you need. And if the first therapist isn't right for you, you can switch it anytime. No questions asked. Sign up and get 10% off at BetterHealth.com slash Don Lemon. That's BetterHELP.com slash Don Lemon.
Okay, thank you to our sponsors. They do keep us posted. We're going to continue to follow the 9-11 story. And we also, hopefully Donald Trump today will somehow explain himself. I don't know how he explains himself out of this one. But I think, you know, a lot of New Yorkers that we spoke to said it's part for the course. That's what they want us to do. Check out our social media later and you'll hear from from all of them. But I don't think that we should we should become numb to this. This is a leader of the free world. This he's supposed to be doesn't act like one. But the moment that you feel that you can open your mouth and just tell a lie about anything, yes, we've known for years. But they've become in even more rapid succession now. Just lie after lie after lie. We'll continue to follow. We're going to give you an update now to talk about what's happening with the Nolan Wells case. A genetic brandlies legal team says that it has sent a letter, a cease and desist letter to the United Cajunavia, accusing the organization
of defamation and harassment and alleging that it conduct has caused emotional distress. But this is interesting for us for a number of reasons because the United Cajunavia tells us that as of this morning, it has received no such letter. So right now, we have two very different accounts. Jay Ashley Carter is the attorney for Gen. of Brantley. And then Charles Sims also joins us here. Charles Sims calls himself the grandson of the architect of Jim Crow. He is the grandson of Jim Crow. So not her off Andy says she can come back. And this is why I don't like people to come in that early. So we'll go into Charles Sims who is the he calls himself the grandson of Jim Crow. Charles, thank you for joining us this morning. How are you doing? Thank you so much. I'm doing great. How are you? I'm doing great. We're trying to get to speak to you last week.
Because you put out an amazing video about the family of Nolan Wells and what they are going through. And before we get to attorney Jay Carter, I want to play this and talk to you about why you did this. Here it is. Good morning Ocean Springs. My name is Charles Sims. It's great being home again. I traveled across the country and stood in places where history was made. I've been with families who were grieving and set with people whose pain was not mine. But whose humanity I could not ignore. And today, I am here in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. And I am not a stranger. I grew up here. Smell the golf bars and learn to fish. I believe Mississippi is worth fighting for because you cannot love a place and be unwilling to fight for its future. I believe that it is time
for black and white Mississippians to sit down together. Not because we agree on everything, but because we believe our shared humanity is greater than our differences. This summer, I saw something that I will never forget. I saw two Mississippi's. One Mississippi was at Cokesworth, the home of Senator Jay-Z George, my three-times great grandfather and primary architect of the Jim Crow laws. Emmett Till's cousin visited my family's home. We didn't pretend history didn't happen. We talked about peace, reconciliation, and faith. We talked about the future. We talked about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream. That day, I saw a different Mississippi. But there is another Mississippi I have seen recently. A Mississippi marked by grief, anger,
suspicion, and unanswered questions. People are hurting. Families are hurting. And a community is asking questions. Let me bring it now. Charles, thank you. And then you went on to talk about which I think is very important that people lose sight of. This is a family that's grieving. A mother has lost her son. And she's being attacked. And people are attacking her work. Even one of the young men who says that they're no one's friend, she was responsible for part of the response that they are getting, the negative response that they're getting. Look, this is such a complicated story, but I don't think you're going to win the Court of Public Opinion if you're blaming the mother of young men, the victim who died. But you also called out the issues in Mississippi that there is. You cannot ignore the racism of Mississippi. You cannot ignore the Jim Crow South in the role that it plays in all of this. Even if you believe race had nothing to do with it, race has something to do
with it. If you know what I mean, Charles. Yes, sir. I do know where you're coming from, Don. Me specifically, I think this was a calling for me. I think sometimes we inherit things from the past. And sometimes those darkest parts of our history become something that we have to work towards to create or write something better. And I had to come to terms with what that meant for me. And I felt Christine's pain. And I thought it was extremely important for me to first all listen, not to rush to speak, to be first to speak, but to listen and to see what was important and what needed to be said. And I thought it was extremely important for me to reach out to her. You know, I was motivated by several doctor kings quotes along the way. I've been doing this for several years. You know, some people don't know me, but I've been doing this for about five years. One thing that did motivate me was I
have a dream one day of the Santa former slaves and the Santa former slave owners will be able to sit down at the table of brotherhood. And I'm happy to tell you today, Don, that that video was extremely well received. And I appreciate your your commentary on it and everything else. But after that, I received a lot of really nice and kind messages so much so that the message made it back to Christine. And she reached out to me. And she said that her and Elmore really appreciated me doing that. And they said that they would be open to meet me. And I told her that I would be back in the air in four to five weeks. And that if they wanted to, no pressure, no rush, but I would be willing to sit down with them. They wanted to do that on their time. What are people missing in this? Look, I will say this and I've been saying this is the beginning. We don't know what happened. We don't know what involvement, if any, that the young man had. What I, the thing that I feel about them, my personal opinion, Charles, is that they're being poorly advised. I think they should release a statement, say we have nothing to do. We love our
friend and leave it alone, but doing these interviews and the attorneys doing these interviews, and somehow attacking the family or having the family appear that they are on some sort of trial, I just think it's a bad look. I think it's, it's, and again, I think it's just poor advice. If they are innocent, they will be proven innocent. And I just think getting out there, it just, it just doesn't sit well with me. And I think a lot of folks. Yeah, I agree with you. And I appreciate your comments where you, where you kind of agreed with, we were, you know, anger can't be our only evidence. And that, that, it shouldn't be played out on, out on, out on social media. Anger can tell us that something's wrong, but anger can't be our only evidence, but we also have to be angry enough to demand answers, but be disciplined enough to demand truth. James Meredith once said that Mississippi is the center of the universe, the center of the racial issue, the center of the poverty issue. And that was a quote that stuck with me for a very long time, because I do believe that a lot of the seeds of what we face in the United States originated from
Mississippi. And I believe the solution has to emanate from, or originate from there and emanate outwards. How are we done expected to tell the rest of the world how to act when we can even get right at home? How are we expect to dictate to Ukraine or Russia or Palestine and Israel how these things are supposed to play out that have happened over generations? You know, some of these conflicts have happened over a very long time, especially mine, especially with my family. Some of this goes back to 130, 150 years, but eventually it comes down to someone that's willing to sit across the table from someone that's different than them and have a conversation. Sitting down with someone doesn't mean that you don't have compassion or sitting down with somebody or having a conversation. Negotiating isn't weakness. And I think that you have to be willing to sit down with somebody that fundamentally has a different history than you, but you can try to have comfortable with the resolution. I think it's an extremely important.
So you as a you're speaking up for Nolan Wells and the family and also trying to least somehow bridge this gap that's happening there. Look, you're a white guy, right? You're a white man living and people feel passionately about this particular issue, especially as it relates to Nolan Wells. This stirs up a lot of pain for people. It brings back a lot of memories. Black people think of Emmett Till, all the things. Now on the other side, and I'm generalizing here, people who will say, you know, well, that stuff you should forget about it. It's a long time ago. We're never going to get together. You know, if we don't talk about it and forget about those things, which is infuriating to a lot of people, especially black people. Well, yeah, I think that's where my story is kind of unusual, Don, because I'm not talking about reconciliation from resistance. I'm talking about reconciliation as in Mississippi, as the descendant
of J. Z. George. And I'm not trying to say that the history doesn't matter. It obviously matters because my history and my family's history is very intertwined with Mississippi history. And oftentimes, I don't think people realize what's possible until someone dreams it possible. And then they understand the way forward. But no one considered, you know, I didn't begin calling myself the great grandson of Jim Crow, however, other people put that monitor on me. But it told me that I had an important place in this. And I also had an important story to tell to help move and progress that story forward towards unity, towards unity in the community, towards a better future, towards a brighter future. Do you believe that'll happen? It's hard for me to believe, look, I am a glass half full person, but it's hard for me to believe. I have trouble believing that in this environment that we're in now, especially politically, and when it seems like, you know,
race is that we are regressing as it relates to race, equality, diversity, equity, and inclusion. It appears to me that it is on purpose, because they say that they want to get rid of the diversity equity inclusion. That's the first thing that the administration said. So do you think that we can ever get there? I don't know if we can, as long as we continue, especially with the folks we have in office. And again, that's not for me. Much like John Feele said, I'm an independent person. I'm not a Democrat nor Republican, but I think with a politics of MAGA, if I must be honest, I don't see us getting to that place where you think that we should be. Look, I'm not here to carry water or represent any party Democrat, Republican, conservative, liberal. I'm here to stand as my own person, but politics should never be more important than people. If I'm a spokesperson for anything, let it be for you. If I'm a spokesperson for anything, let it be for bringing us back together. I know that's an uphill battle,
obviously, Don. But I think my mom would have been a better representative for something like this. She was a very kind person, almost over a couple of years ago, but she instilled a lot of these values in me. And I believe truly that she would have advocated for me to reach out to Christine. Obviously, us having grown up in notions of spring, I think that would have touched her heart. And I think that she would have called me in central, you need to reach out to mother and try to see if we can call on these tensions. I know in the United States, we absolutely face difficulties with racial tensions and oftentimes perception is reality. But we have to start somewhere, Don, just like some of the instances of the past were where Ann Warsavats sat down with Jimmy Carter and his Israeli counterpart. Sometimes you have to be able to sit down and move it forward regardless of how painful it is, regardless of where the story originated from. You have to
be willing to sit down and have those tough conversations. They are tough conversations. We didn't just give you over a small period of time from 18, the 1890 Constitution to the Voting Rights Act. That was 70-something odd years. But 1890 and now we are talking about it was 140 years. It took me at a long time to get to this point. It was not easy for me. I had to go back that back. Like I had to live up an extremely hard life to recognize people's humanity. When I was in back that, my roommates was from Sierra Leone, West Africa. The military taught me a lot about brotherhood. And that is one thing that Dr. King often talked about the table of brotherhood. And that is something that is important to me. I believe that that is possible. And recently, when Emmett Till's cousin, Wheeler Parker came to a coach's work, I said that this is two voices calling out for Mississippi's table of brotherhood. This is extremely important. And yeah, I did sympathize with everything that was happening on the coast. And I thought it was extremely
important for my voice to be heard. Not just by the white community, not just by the black community. This is a challenge to Mississippi. This is a challenge to America as a whole. And I believe that challenge should be answered. So we can lead by example. So we can show that example to the world moving forward. And I look forward to join hands with Christine and Evershin's Brian and help him to, you know, just show the Mississippi example that we do have a positive way forward. Well, I hope folks who are listening to you and very eloquently said. And I really appreciate you coming on this morning. He said he doesn't call himself. He has been named the grandson of Jim Crow. Can I say one thing? Yeah, of course. One interesting thing about that is his name is James C. George. I think people oftentimes have lost the understanding of history. What did it name? He was referred to as Jim. So anybody that didn't know the man that the private architect of the Jim Crow laws was called Jim. So I guarantee
very few people in history know that. But his name was Jim George, James C. George. And oftentimes it wasn't me. He was a nickname, but you know, his friends and family called him that. I think that was something that probably nobody knows. Even when I was growing up, I didn't know that the entire history of it. And we've got a Thanksgiving and I walk in front door and there's a gigantic picture of Robert E. Lee. So I know where I came from. But yeah, to anybody that didn't know and people that said there was nobody named Jim Crow. Obviously, there's nobody named Jim Crow. What his name was Jim. And he created the primary architect of the Jim Crow laws. All the other southern states followed his direction and his blueprint. It's really interesting, Don. You should actually, if you have a chance, well, I'll read about this. It is the fence of that law at the synagogues. It's actually pretty interesting. Well, Simi, some information. I gave absolutely less than educated folks a bit last week when we when we discussed you and what you said. And now it's actually Jim Crow is not your grandfather. It's the people who are who were the
architects of those Jim Crow laws. Thank you so much, Charles. I think we have a tendency to inherit conflicts over time. And I think we have a tendency to inherit stories, anger, fear, but it's what we do with that and what spirit we cherish for Don. I really appreciate you having me on today. Thank you, Charles Sims. We'll have you back. Okay. Continue to do what you do and bring good things to the world. We appreciate it. Thank you. We're back with Jay Aschicarta. There's an update on the Nolan Well story as it involves that audio engineer and a defamation lawsuit possibly. First of all, we're from our sponsors. You know, we check numbers all day, all day long. I'm sure you do. How many steps did I take? What's my heart rate? How much did I sleep? Some of us check our bank accounts more often than we probably should. And I talk about polling numbers a lot, all kinds of things, things, statistics, everything. But when was the last time you
checked your blood pressure? Because here is the problem with that. High blood pressure often doesn't make you feel any different. You can feel perfectly fine and have no idea what your numbers are. And that's why 120 light. This caught my attention. They have a simple 14 day experiment. Check your blood pressure. Drink 120 life once a day. Keep checking your numbers and see what happens for yourself. I like that. You don't have to guess. You don't have to anything. You just measure, right? Go to 120 life.com. That's 120 LIFE.com and use my code, which is done. D-O-N for 20% off. Try it risk-free for two weeks. And if your blood pressure doesn't come down, you get a full refund. That's 120 life.com and the code is done. I'll be saying this if not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Always check with your doctor. Okay, thank you to our sponsors. I'm going to say it again.
They keep us powered. Back now with Jay Ashley Carter, attorney for the Audio Engineer, Janetta Brantley. She's been on the program. Thank you so much for joining us. You can hear us this time, right? Yeah. I've been here you before, but we're good to go now. So tell me, you're threatening to sue the Cajun Navy for defamation. You said that they didn't, they said that they didn't receive your letter at all. And so what is going on? Why are you threatening to sue them? So we were, Janetta, so first of all, I'm the host of the Black Warriors podcast, but I'm also Janetta Brantley's attorney. And she actually has a team of attorneys we're working with to represent her and a pro bono effort to help cease, as you can see on this grain, a defamation, harassment, and emotional distress. And so before you, so before you actually file a lawsuit, you typically send a system to this, right? You give a person an opportunity to have a protractor statements, clarify their statements, delete it, you know, you give a person
an opportunity to address it. It is also what we call a litigation hold, okay? So you can't go back and they'll start deleting everything, right? Because first of all, we have pictures of everything, right? We downloaded every video, we, you know, we screenshot it every photo. So it's also a hold to say, don't go and now try to delete the evidence that supports our claims. In the event, she sues. Now, Janetta has not decided to actually file an actual lawsuit yet. She is contemplating it, and this is just a part of the process. We're trying to give persons and organizations like Cajunati, a particular Brian from the Cajunati who says to be the most outspoken person against her, and other individuals that have relentlessly attacked her. We're giving them an opportunity again to retract, clarify, apologize, and quite frankly, even if you don't retract or apologize, you could simply just stop talking about her as it relates to false statements, right? Because you
can speak about people if they're true statements. You can speak about Janetta, frankly, in the context of she is tied to a very high profile investigation, right? So this is a public interest thing. So we're not saying, you know, while we were preferring that talk about her at all, we understand today still talk about her in that context, but it has to be true statements. And so it sounds to me that you're doing something very similar as, if not since they're very similar, the same thing that the attorney for the young man did. And they sent a very similar letter to Al Sharpen. And they haven't sued him yet. It's an letter of intent to sue, as you said, which is a litigation hold. Is that where you got the idea from? No, no, no, this is just this typical, what do you call it, industry practice? So this is probably what any attorney would do. They would probably. So what do you, what do you guys alleging? Like what happened here? That what exactly is
our janetta brand and you alleging the United States, excuse me, the United Cajun Navy said or did that you believe amounts to defamation and harassment? Sure. So just very quickly, as it relate, it's broken up into two parts. So the first part is they are claiming that she's not an actual audio engineer and she does not actually do it for a living. So they've made some other statements, but these are the key statements that we maintain our false. Part of what we did in the letter, we actually provided them a full transcript of genetic education at Fulsell University. Her specific bachelor's was in music production, but the transcript actually, if you look through her transcript, you see that she took courses in digital audio and in theory. You see that she took courses in interactive audio courses that audio engineers take. This is what janetta took and pursuing her bachelor's degree. So to say that she doesn't do it for a living that she has,
you know, that she's not really an audio engineer. Those are false statements. And so we wanted to provide the transcript because it is hurting her reputation. We go further because this is all publicly available. Janetta does audio engineering and post sound production and things for movies and TV shows, right? TV and films. Here's the IMD page that breaks it down. So it's not like the information isn't available. This is a way to discredit Ms. Brandy, right? Because what she did was the first, right? She is the first one to put out any sort of isolated audio where you can hear what's going on in the background. Not TMZ, not Nancy Grace, it was janetta brand is an unknown black moment, right? And so I tell Janetta all the time she said, well, how come no one else is being attacked like this and false statement? No one else is attacking anybody else's credentials. I said because you're considered low hanging fruit. It's easier to attack an unknown black moment,
right? Then to go after like a TMZ person, you know, Harvey, who's an attorney or an Nancy Grace, who's a former prosecutor, it's easier to attack her. And so the first part of the letter simply provides proof that she actually has experience in audio engineering and she plays just not saying that that's a false statement. The second part is, is been essentially saying and I want to use their exact words. They said that she doctorate the original CTL call and they tell the whole thing up. Okay? So both of those statements. So doctoring the call and making the whole thing up, you are essentially conveying that she did something fraudulent, right? She took a recording from an organization, the MDMR, which is a Marine, I don't have all the letters in front of me, but the Marine resources company that had the CTL call that was uploaded to the news, right? And then Janetta downloaded it from the news and then isolated it so that he could hear
what was going on in the background. You're saying that process, which we laid out actually in the letter, we did lay it out for them so that they can understand what she actually did. They're saying, no, it was doctor, you made the whole thing up. You cannot accuse people of fabrication, you cannot accuse people of fraud. And so these are essentially the statements we're dealing with as it relates to the patient navy and the comments that were made. I got you. I got you. I got you. I got you. Well, well, you let us know how where this goes because we have been following this story and we've been talking to Janetta Brantley and you and there's always a development there. We'll see, but they said that they haven't received it one. They haven't received it, but this is what I wanted to tell you done. It's bigger than they haven't received it. Now, I think we all know in the world of electronics, right? When you email something, you mail something if something is not worth it. Simple as answer because I got to run. I just wanted to say that the biggest thing here is
after they allegedly did not receive the letter, Brian went to her Facebook page and gave her message. In all my years of law practice, I've never heard someone allegedly not receive something and then attack the person that's being represented by cancer. We have been instructed him not to contact you, Madam. So that was the other update we wanted to provide for you. Well, thank you for that. I appreciate it. Attorney Jay Carter. You always are interesting and keep us up to date, man. I don't know where this story ends up. There's so many twists and turns. We appreciate it. Thank you so much. We'll see you soon. I really thank you very much. Okay, so let's talk about this. Our big political story today, of course, is 9-11. And I watched in DC and Donald Trump making up the, you know, this story. And then you have Rudy Giuliani out here saying that the mayor should not attend. It has become political. My question is, what are Republicans saying about this? What are lawmakers, but Republican specifically saying about this? Daniel Grange's our Washington DC correspondent, Daniel,
we already know that Ted Cruz has responded this morning, or at least last night. I want to play what he said and then we'll come in. Here's Ted Cruz. Perpris. September 11th was 25 years ago. It was a horrific moment for our entire country. And you could doubt whatever you want about Donald Trump, but the man is a New Yorker. He loves New York. And I have every doubt that what he's conveying there is what what he experienced. And that was a traumatic experience for all of us. So he's basically saying was so long ago that Donald Trump probably forgot, basically saying it doesn't matter if Donald Trump is lying or not, which is just crazy. You're hearing from any other lawmakers? Yeah, so let me start by just saying, Don, it really pains my heart to think about the politicization of 9-11, because as you discussed earlier in the program, I mean, this is an event I was just in elementary school when it happened, but even I remember the coming together of the nation afterwards, you know, people who were bashing
Bush just days ahead of the event and how the nation came together. So it's just sad how we're going to mark 25 years since that 11 and it's become political. Somebody I never thought would happen. But you know, you heard Ted Cruz try to defend the president. I've reached out to other lawmakers. Haven't heard back and that's probably because Don, there are two things. One, lawmakers are either in their districts campaigning. We know that the House voted to cancel the rest. They're so worth, oh, Daniel. They're coming back. They're coming back next week. So everybody will be back in Washington Monday night. First thing Tuesday morning, we can get some answers from them. Every senators at House, lawmakers will be back. But they're going to talk about this Daniel real quick. They're going to be in Texas tonight. Yeah, what's it? Okay. But can you imagine if you if you told your boss that, well, I can't, I can't respond. Let's sit for the folks who work at home. I can't respond because I'm not in the office. It's like your damn phone works. These
lawmakers' telephones work just because they're not there. It doesn't mean they can't respond to the story. They're not responding to the story because they don't have anything to say. They can't either you look like an idiot. Like Ted Cruz looks like a fucking there, making excuses for Donald Trump. I almost said something bad about where, you know, what he's doing. Why don't we hold these people accountable? What do you think? What do you think about the man who is lying about 9-11 and inserting himself into a story that is, a story that is sacri saying, this is something that is that is extremely emotional and sacred for the American people. Their phones work. They can put out a response. Their team is still working. I just, it just it just infuriates me when we say, oh, they're not in Washington. So therefore, they're not responding.
Fuck that. Make them respond. Call them. Keep calling them. Who, who, you should, who did you reach out to? They didn't respond. I'm not saying that just for you. I meant every single reporter, if they're not responding. We were starting to take Cruz. He didn't have anything to say. We reached out to John Thune. His office did not respond. We reached out to Mike Johnson. Mike Johnson didn't have anything to say. He's a speaker of the house. We reached out to this law. Make her actually had a relative who was involved in 9-11. Didn't have anything to say. I think we'd need to start holding these people even to more account. Sorry. It just it just burns me up when I hear that they're not responding because they're not there. And who we may hear from in a matter of minutes is the president. So he is scheduled to leave this hour at some point to go to Dallas. And usually he does a press gaggle when he does that with the White House press pool. And so we may hear from President Trump. I'm going to put a call out to the producers to watch for that because he could very well be speaking any minute now before he boards the plane to Dallas.
And you better expect him to be asked about that. So we may hear from the president directly. Again, he's probably if he does respond, it's probably going to be another lie. I mean, I don't know what he'll make up to cover for that lie. But we don't expect the truth if we do hear from him. But back to your point about Washington lawmakers. Yeah, you're not wrong. I mean, they're still getting paid on the dime. And that's why people were so upset when they just canceled the rest of September. It's like, you're not even going to be here. You're going to focus on campaigning, not focus on legislating. And this has been one of the least productive sessions of Congress in decades and Republicans. But did my job and just say a couple of weeks. That's why I call that out. This was the, yeah, this is the most productive. It's like, what Daniel, what are they past? What have they passed? I mean, last year they passed that so called big, beautiful bill. They could talk about that. And that's what they're campaigning on. That was a year ago, don't I'm trying to I'm struggling. I mean, they passed the housing act, right? But remember, President Trump didn't sign that. So and that's something that they're trying
to create more housing infrastructure to help lower costs. The president didn't even sign it. And that's not expected to actually help lower costs for a few years down the road. So no, Michael Johnson can say this has been the most productive session. But the facts say otherwise, let me ask you about this because speaking of at least some people are getting paid, right? Some people are doing, I guess, okay financially. Can somebody explain to me what is going on at the White House? Because apparently, Daniel, I know you've been digging into this. Donald Trump gave several of his eights, $45,000 each for $45,000. I mean, okay, usually about the wine, a gift certificate, maybe a couple hundred dollar bonus, but $45,000. He said, I don't know. I don't know. I'm saying, Don, this Christmas season, I'm going to be looking at you at a vet check. Not $45,000. I'm going to give you some side eye, my friend, because the president has now
set a precedent. You've got to get to side eye. Start now. The other thing that I did when I was looking into it, I thought, okay, how much tap? Are we paying for this? No, okay. Is he good in the side of his own? Okay. That's where you're going. So, so Donald Trump gifted three eights, $45,000. One of those Natalie Harp, we know about her. She's called the human printer. She's obviously been around the president for an entire year without a security clearance, but he gifted it to two other aids in addition to her and then one got $20,000. So, a lot of gifts there. The White House is saying, listen, this was not as part of their normal pay. This was just a cash gift from the president before the holidays. And the president is allowed to out of his own personal funds, gift his staff money. So, there's other side to this, as people are saying, wait, this is an ethics concern. If you work for the government, you're not supposed to be getting any sort of funds. And the problem here is that this is, again, this president
is so corrupt and has done things done that there's no precedent for Bush, Obama, Clinton, none of the no prior president has done this. And so, now there is this legal scramble of, okay, what this hasn't been done before. We know ethics White House and Senate ethics say that if you work for the government, you cannot get outside of funds. But again, does that include the president using his own funds to give aid. And so, there's this kind of gray area that experts are having to dive into. I will say this, Dawn though, I looked into this because I was curious. I thought, okay, so if they're given this gift, how much, you know, typically you think about gifts and you may have to, if you're given a bonus, 50% of that goes to taxes. Well, if my research is correct, they didn't have to pay a single cent for that gift. It actually is the rest Donald Trump would have to pay for having given it to them. But they just got that $45,000 gift to them from the president and they're good to go. So this is a tip, no tax on tips. Maybe that's what that was
really all about. Yeah, I mean, just saying. Mighty nights. But the concern here, the last day, I'll just say the other concern and the reason why again, they don't do this is because think about it. If someone gives you that amount of money, you're supposed to be working on behalf of the American people, right? You're not working on behalf of Donald Trump. And so that's just going to continue to curry favor to the president. If he says do something wrong, we saw what happened with Mike Pence, for example, when he voted to certify the election, which is the base floor, but you think about, okay, if this president is just handing out checks like this to people and says, all right, now go lie on my behalf. That's the concern that it raises. It raises the idea of who is the loyalty going to be to to the American people who pays them or Donald Trump. Thank you, Daniel. Yeah. Sorry to be so depressing, don't. Yeah, I mean, look, this is a very serious show. You know, we talked about 9-11 and that series and then this as well. And then also, of course, the Nolan
Well story and the attorney who was on, I needed to get to you. People are like, why did you rush any rush for she spoke for a long time? We're good. We got it. When there's a development, we will let, you know, I don't think anybody can say that we've rushed any story that has to do with Nolan Welles. We're still covering it. The first person to cover it. So there you go. Thank you, Daniel. We'll see you later. Okay. So now you're informed. If you would like to know anything about the Don Lemon Show, go to Don Lemon.com. And of course, coming up, which is very weird, not weird. That's actually it's weird, but it's interesting on the same date on September 11th, a 9-11, DL Hugley and I will be in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for our first, the beginning of our tour, our nationwide tour, DL and DL anything goes in the next night we are in Orlando and then we go all across the country ending up in LA and then back to New York.
