About this episode

“So, Hilton called to me the superstition concierge to make your fan rituals a reality. Want to make sure our team doesn't wash your lucky jersey? Hilton's unmatched hospitality can keep up with any superstition.”From the transcript

Auburn football might be better than people thought after Week 1, and Byrum Brown might be the biggest reason to reconsider some of those early opinions. Auburn followed its close win over Baylor by taking care of business against Southern Miss. The Tigers rushed for more than 300 yards, showed improvement along the offensive line and got the type of quarterback performance that should have Auburn fans feeling considerably better about the offense heading into SEC play. The biggest question coming out of this game is simple: Are people still underrating Byrum Brown? Plenty has been said about Brown's throwing motion. Yes, the windup is noticeable. But once the football leaves his hand, it gets where it needs to go in a hurry. Brown showed that against Southern Miss, and Auburn's ability to threaten defenses through the air already feels different from where the passing attack was at this point last season. at their first stop. You know, and Robbie was a little bit of a journeyman right like he had to go out of the organ, you know, he had to, you know, come to Auburn and go some different places before he played his best year of college football. But coaching has a lot to do with that. It does. Coaching has a lot to do with that. I think that Byron Brown and Alex Goldish, nobody's questioning that pair of QB and coach. Now, kind of moving on from quarterback. Guys, I, I, for a second week straight, I am more impressed with these, this group of receivers. I think Auburn has playmakers at receiver. Could my co-ger be Auburn's best receiver? He was the guy I had pegged in the preseason where I was in the game. I was the only Auburn's receiver. Caesar, what did you see? I, I, co-ger is a playmaker. Yeah. Yeah. He's, uh, he's actually one of the people who I was expecting to go off in this game because of the attention that Singleton

would get from, from the best defender is lining up against Singleton. You have a killer opposite of Singleton and co-ger who's going to hurt you. And a game like this and co-ger did at times. Like again, I hate that, that call was, was, was, was, uh, they took away the touchdown that he caught in the end zone, beautiful throw by Byron Brown. We got it made him a hundred yards, he, how long was that touchdown? They took off because he ended with 57 yards. No, he, it wouldn't have been, it wouldn't have been, it wouldn't have been, I don't think it was that longer with throw. It had to have been a few or three yards throw. Yeah, it was, I don't know. It, it, it had to be close, but he, he, he went off, he went off. Um, I see someone in the chat mentioned him, man, Spencer. The chance wow, like we've been hearing good things about him in the off season. I see, I, I get it. He's going to be, he's going to be something else when he gets his, when he truly gets his shot.

He's a really talented, it was good to see more guys in the receiving core, get opportunities. Uh, but I, to answer your question, Mike, yes, Kogor has all the tools to really be Auburn's best receiver, NBA top SEC receiver, I think. College football is back. So Hilton called to me the superstition concierge to make your fan rituals a reality. Need a room to match your lucky number? We got you. Want to make sure our team doesn't wash your lucky jersey? Who's the Auburn's best receiver after two weeks? Yeah, to me, it's Cogor. Singleton, if he can get rid of his drops issue, Singleton would be challenging for number one with him. But he's had at least one drop in both games. He had two last night. So he's got to be able to do that. He makes some really great catches within, you know, he's got a little Sammy coach in him right now, where it's like he can make

some amazing ones, but he's going to drop a few of them that he shouldn't. So I think he's got the potential to be up there. But for me, Jeremiah Cogor is the guy who has essentially done it all for Auburn in terms of his ability to get open, his ability to get the ball in his hand on the quick stuff. Deep threat, you know, we saw the one he bobbled last night, probably should have been a touchdown if he catches that cleanly. But he's everything that you need from short routes, intermediate routes, physicality in the blocking game and the the deep playability. So yeah, he's got it all. And he can move, he can move in open space. Like I was impressed by how he looked in the bailer game. Like he caught the ball and made a defender miss and get up for you. Like he's he has all he has all the tools. One one thing that struck me, fellas, is that walking around the stadium, I, you know, and I know this because he's there with me most of the time, but like we get stopped all the time when people asking us, you know, what you think or just offering their

thoughts, what do you think about this or offering their thoughts on what they see? The amount of people with the program administratively or in other roles that just say, Alex Goldis is the guy is astounding. They're just like, I mean, everybody I stopped to talk to says this guy is different, man. He's different. I can tell you in two and a half years, not one time that anybody stopped to tell me that about he frees. Like, I'm not going to say that. I'm not going to say that about he frees. Like man, he's he's got his processes different. Like he's he's on it. He's he's he's you know, to me, those weren't things that were saying about you. Perception is reality. And I think the reality is Auburn's got a really good coach that's going to demand excellence. It may not look perfect at times, but still being able to grind out wins when things look sloppy as Alex Goldis put it.

College football is back. So Hilton called him me the superstition concierge to make your fan rituals a reality. Need a room to match your lucky number? We got you. Want to make sure our team doesn't wash your lucky jersey? Oh, that smells lucky. Hilton's unmatched hospitality can keep up with any superstition. Even a marching bandwink up call it 555 and 55 seconds. Hit it! When you need a team that will do whatever it takes on game day, it matters where you stay. Hilton, for the sake. This episode is brought to you by State Farm. No two football players are exactly alike. And the same is true off the field. That's why State Farm gifts to know you so they can help personalize coverage for your life and budget. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. I think I think is the mark of a good program. I think it's a good program. I think it's a good program. You know, Auburn's got accomplished a couple things this season.

I mean, obviously they got to get the offense going. But they have to continue to generate turnovers at the rate that they're generating them right now. They've got to get this offense the ball back. The way they're getting the offense the ball back right now. Because you need, you're going to need more offensive plays. Which takes me before we get to the break. I do want to talk about this Auburn ran 85 total plays in this one. I don't know if that's realistic in SEC play. But I think, you know, being over 70 plays per game is probably a good place to be in. It's going to come down to sustaining drives offensively. They were able to do that versus Southern Miss. They had to convert a couple of fourth downs to do it. And you know, this is a really good opportunity to see you play in this season. And then, you know, you know, I think you can do that. I think that's a really good opportunity to see that they're playing in this season. And then, you know, I think that's a really good opportunity to convert a couple of fourth downs to do it. And, you know, listen, nobody can convince me that he didn't go for a couple of those fourth downs just to because he was like,

I feel thin. He got mad at them going for that point conversion when they scored. Like, you know what? Y'all aren't getting the ball back. Don't worry about it. We're just going to keep going for it. Like, we want to get more points for going to go score. Southern Miss was running slow. They're usually a tempo team and they were trying to slow the game down. He was like, I see how y'all want to be. Don't worry about it. We're just going for it on fourth down. And so, I do think that they have to be able to pick those up because going for it on fourth that often versus SEC opponents is probably not going to be a wise proposition. But 70 plus plays a game is probably where they need to be. Caesar, I wanted to see a little bit more of Tristan to you. Yeah. The game was out of reach by that point. And they had a chance to get there. Tristan Tia should have had a touchdown. We're going to be honest about it. It had to get similar play like they did in the first quarter where they had the defense thinking run. Tide in slip behind them, got wide open.

Like, we would have seen some of that. We saw a little bit of him. I would to your point, I think we would have seen more of him. If there wasn't a fumble by Jeremiah Cobb, because I think that Byron Brown probably comes out of the game if Auburn scores on that drive. But obviously they wanted to get two scores with Byron Brown. And so that kind of cut into Tristan Tia's time. Would have liked to see him throw a lot more, but by that point, man, like you're really piling on the team at that point. And so, I would like to see him. And it has to be a situation too where the coaching staff will turn him loose and let us see what he can truly do as opposed to running the clock out and getting the game over with. Yeah, look, you're going to need your back up at some point. You're going to need your back up at some point. And you need to be able to trust your back up when his number is called.

Now that we're headed into SEC play with this non-game conference scheduled, there are less opportunities these versus cupcakes to kind of test those guys and games where they you know you haven't hammed. So this opportunity isn't going to come again until November. Unless you are actually blowing out in SEC team. And I don't see any blowouts in Auburn's immediate future. Maybe like I know actually, you know, new babies. I'm not calling any blowout against any SEC team. It's just this just go around for Auburn. So all the bloodsturing about that. All that's over now that we're into SEC play. Well, we got we have to get to our first break here when we come back. We're going to talk a little bit more about this game. But we're going to get some more of Caesars more settled thoughts on what we saw. And what to expect headed in the Florida. I mean, you've got to turn the page quickly on this one guys. Florida is coming and we'll see what they have guys.
