#1056 |  Ed and Daniel pick through Manchester United 1-1 Tottenham, a game United led until the 92nd minute but in which they played badly for most of the 90. The first half was as poor as anything this season, with Spurs running through United’s midfield at will. One side was moving, the other standing still. Carrick’s changes on the hour briefly changed the game, including a positive cameo from Carlos Baleba. But after Spurs were reduced to 10 men, United went into their shell and produced some more comedy defending.  Where does Michael Carrick go from here, especially with Tuesday’s trip to Atletico coming up fast, and a very difficult schedule ahead. We keep finding new ways to be utterly, utterly shite. But that first 45 minutes. Don't want to be hyperbolic, but that was just about as shite as anything we've ever seen. Was it not? How are you anyway? Before we get onto the Manchester United, you're doing right? I'm all right. You're not at the shit though. It's it's one of those, you know, you have those situations where like for like some time after the game, you're like wondering about the house or whatever is you're doing. You just find yourself shaking your head like mumbling, fucking cuss, under your breath. Hopefully your child doesn't there. Is that is that kind of thing where it's just the altitude is so mystifying in that I think and I wrote this and I feel like I made a dick out of myself and so doing. But when carrot was up for the job in the summer, I wasn't like get him in, get him in. But at the same time, I didn't think that any of the alternatives were more compelling than what he did last season.

We had that conversation, right? It wasn't really a better choice. What I felt was that there were enough goals in the team to mean that the bottom level with him is filled couldn't be that low. And he has managed to confound my expectations in that regard, the bottom level. I mean, and that's what you see really towards the end with all the managers. I'm afraid we know what it looks like. It's when they're getting as little out of the squad as it as it is possible to do. And that's never to say that what we're seeing is default uniquely of managers. Like this fixed attack fixed in midfield fixed defense. Why? Look at all the other teams that are fixing all sorts of shit. And what happens if you get some shit wrong? Then what? By the way, if you're watching on YouTube, hit the subscribe button. I'm compelled to do the call to action and all of that. Yeah, look, in the same, I'm going to

bash the team a lot today. No doubt we are going to be as critical as possible. But in some mitigation, it was obvious that the summer wasn't right. And we hadn't fixed enough of the problem. So I think given that Luke, Sean and Harry McGuire are still in the team and running through tree call. They are definitely not the only ones that look like that. But definitely did. There's some mitigation there, you know, to the point of why not squad built in the way that elite team squad built. Not even the lead teams, man. Or anyone almost every team in the Premier League is building in a different manner to us. Yes, that's right. Yeah. If you look at the, you can build a first 11 or an 11 of players bought under, since the wreck lift came in, it's about 678 million pounds gross of spanking. It is gross. Yeah. And it's us a dog shit. And

like most of the transfers of we can probably say have failed. Now, like time, time or tell, or a good number of them don't appear to have worked out for different reasons. Time will tell on the summer, your T-Lamonds was particularly bad yesterday. He's not the T-Lamonds of Villa. I expect so much more of him. If we're going to do T-Lamonds, I think people are treating him quite harshly, actually. I'd say what we've seen so far this season, him and Manu have been one of the better aspects of this team. I just mean yesterday. So he is bearing the brunt, I think, of the blame for a system that he's been putting that doesn't work. Now, I think the first thing to say here is I wouldn't have played him yesterday. I'd have played Mount and Manu. And I think also that T-Lamonds and Manu could work as a pairing in some games. But if you, I think you've got to be playing well for it to work. And then it looks, and then you see, I'll look at you now, I just play them off the pitch, passing them off the pitch. And it has happened at points this season.

You've got to be playing well. And I think it could probably work in some European games where the pace is a bit slower. But when you're not playing well, it looks like a liberty. Yeah. We had an option. Number one, we had Mount for the, given this at least a good 25 minutes before getting injured. Why did we buy Andre San Jose Santos? And I think also the other reason it doesn't work is because we got two slugs sent back. For sure, yeah, for sure. The area of the field we get in killed is it's sort of in the middle of the pitch behind them and in front of them. And what happened, and the reason for that is because I sent the backs, can't condense the play. If you've got two sent the backs that come run that stood on the halfway line and are able to jump into tackles where necessary. And they're prepared to, one of them has prepared to rely on the pace of the other and jump to go and, go into midfield if necessary. That cosmic space where we're constantly getting pickfucked and have been done for years since the 10 half days at least wouldn't be there because your rest defense is sharp and you're able when you're in possession

to condense the play. Yeah. I'm not going to sit here and say to them and say, well, yes, they could see. But I'm not sitting there going. I think to them and this shit we bought a dud. I don't think that. No, no, I don't believe that either. I mean, the problem's actually start even further forward than that because United are unable to coordinate any kind of press. Doesn't matter who's in the team. Yeah, agree. That is surely down to the coaching team. No press can work when the, when the center backs are half like in the middle of their own half. Yes, no, no press can work when you have slow centre backs. You have to just play a mid block. You like, this is obvious. And I'm saying that as someone who has tried to learn about tactics, but I don't claim to be an expert. It's interesting that isn't it? What you say about a side. I said to my boss recently, like I've learned more about football than the last five years than in the previous 20. Yeah, because access to information is incredible. There's so many good people like doing detailed analysis. I mean, the game itself also is more detailed. Yeah.

Like Fergie wasn't talking about all this shit. Like, remember when Big Sam was like a gigantic Sam was doing his prozone thing and that was like quite a groundbreaking thing at the time as he would never allow anyone to forget. But there is the game itself isn't more systemised and more complex. There is more to know about it. But as you say, the information and the availability of information has been democratised. And it's actually, I don't think it's not just the availability of like data and stuff. It's got so many games are on television that it enables people to record them and watch them two, three and four times and see what's going on. And also, there are so many more press conferences where managers are asked questions by people who understand the game better to be able to listen to better answers as well. No, I agree with that. And it's been a little bit of a journey, especially since Darnish joined the crew and we've been trying to do something more detailed. I don't want to sound like an idiot. So I at least do some reading and and try and have a sensible discussion to which point it is interesting with this Erby because

he has been one of the managers that other managers point to and go interesting what he's doing and it doesn't seem like all much is evolved with him. Yeah, but he did one interesting thing yesterday in the first 45 just split the centre backs really, really wide banhol used to do this as well. And it gave United a real problem trying to press and suddenly there were open through the central midfield and Spurs actually have some decently PC players and they were just like on-armid field and behind on midfield constantly. And it looked like there were two different teams there like there's one dynamic team and the other was just standing still like statues and that that was us. Yeah, what he also did was he just I mean, he picked runners in midfield. Yeah, like Connagaruga is not a good player. No, but he will run and run and run. He'll run his ass off and he'll attack space and that's what he did. And I think going back to what United did with that midfield it also feels like we've seen this Michael. We know what happens like this. What did he think was going to change by doing the same thing

again? I just don't get it. And what happens with Spurs is they start with energy and we're too slow. Players are way too far apart, but it's not just the far apartness of our players. It's the ball speed. So when we have the ball we're moving it slowly and slowly and slowly. Yeah, they're ripping it into each other. Gary never mentioned this I think in Connagaruga. They're ripping it into each other and that means you can do stuff quickly because what happens is if you're so I think Glasnus said after Forrest played Tottenham that with deserving teams you basically got two options. You either go flat out with the press because the way they'll try and bait your press is so if you do press you've got to properly commit to it the whole team or you sit off them because otherwise if you half-ass sit they'll pass around you because that's what they're waiting to happen. And that is what happened and it also means that if you're sitting off you don't have momentum so they're going to get. So Graham Sunez and I quite this is on the whole time because for the complexity that we're just talking about it's also a possible to view football through quite

simple prism and Graham Sunez says the side that gets to the ball first wins. And he's right. No one does simple better than Graham Sunez but yes he is right there. You know you have to work out run again we're actually 20th out of 24 running distances season and he's not all about that but it is one metric that's pointing to we work less than other player teams. The I test is telling in that aspect I find much more so than the distance covered because you could have loads of the ball but when you want the I test the other team always looks more intense than we do. Yeah. And by several orders of magnitude and because when you're sitting off in the way that we are also when your your your defense is so deep it means that the other teams when they come to contest 50 50s and second balls they're already moving so they're just more likely to get to it first and it's also not helping I think that the Bruno is basically playing center for that. I don't know if he's injured I think he's got a hit problem. He shouldn't have gone

down the essentials. I think I posted this on Twitter I'd be I would not be surprised in a slightly stiff we get a deep dive in the athletic that says inside Bruno's poor start to the season he had a hit flex a problem he's been taking having a quarter zone injections or something like that I'm 100 century it's not fit and and like it was very odd we get pointing it out how high he was it changed a little bit yesterday because of course you could can yeah yeah right it would have helped can you obviously drop to the left and then boom I threw the meal did it mean it helped a little bit when we actually got some of the ball in the second half and boom I was making those runs inside the the full back center back at least you got that I mean he scores his goal not from that kind of position but the chance he got near the end from the blabber pass over the top aim from him making a run that couldn't you would never have made so that yeah I agree so we had amad so I saw the team I thought well I was pleased your I was in and it did from what

Carrick said before sort of sounded like he knows that it is time with your own yeah that we have to find out but but where right back because he doesn't trust him in the middle and I totally understand why he doesn't trust him in the middle I don't trust him in the middle either but I don't trust those other two dickheads either exactly and those two are not the future of the club maybe your row isn't either but at least we can find out so I think it often gets to a point where managers confuse a practical option with a conservative option because playing Maguire Martinez is a conservative option you feel like you've left to lose but you're not winning anyway so what if a safer or more practical option is in fact just to play your row at this point because at least what your row does is he means that you got closer to playing the kind of football that you're trying to play because he gives you some pace in behind you we do have a problem in the air from set pieces your row is weak at that even though he's tall but we have to just try and keep the

ball down the other end yep although your row did he did all right I don't know whether you saw France Belgium but I mean naturally yeah he did he did all right in that one against Lukaku who's not quick right so he's never going to trouble him physically it was difficult I had such an absolutely nightmare I was doing a clock watch for the Guardian on so I had that game and I wanted to watch the Italy turkey game and there was another game one to watch but for whatever reason prime was on Amazon Prime wasn't working on laptop it must be a problem with prime because it wasn't working on my laptop on my desktop so I end up I'm just watching the France game on my phone and every time there's a goal it's the turkey I go to that one so France three one out and there's like the plan injury time Italy score so I go to that then I go back describe the goal then I go back to the France game full time oh cool so I do full time France three Belgium one and then suddenly I've got like my score my video print on as well and then that update's late

it's like oh shit and I scored in bastard injury time yeah and then what it was but I thought that him and Laquois didn't like like the the academy physically made it difficult for them but he played but the Euro did play well and yeah his passing was pretty good and it's also just I think they'd been working on that yeah I'm sure and he comes back with and he's confident that to me was the opportunity to play him in this game because also Spurser got Solanki up front Solanki is Wang he said one good season in his entire career that this lads had one good season for Bournemouth and it wasn't even that good and sudden these what the 60 million pound player it felt like a really good time to play Euro when he's buzzing and then keep him in the team yeah this video is sponsored by Claude there's a folder on my desktop that's basically a crime scene

of screenshots and press shots and b-roll and match stills and they're all dumped into one place under stupid file names like IMG4471 I've never sorted them out I barely ever touched them and I hate searching Google images all the time but this season I really wanted to do proper cutaways in the videos more graphics more evidence on screen while we talk you've probably seen them in some of the shorter videos I do on YouTube so I handed the whole folder over to Claude and asked it to sort them us out hundreds of images and now tagged by player by date by opponent there's match shots there's stayed here there's old pictures of Fergie and it took seconds to sort it out Claude is the AI for mine so don't stop it good enough it's my collaborator and it actually understands my workflow and thinks with me so whether you're debugging code or strategising your next business move or sawing out folders Claude extends her thinking to tech other problems they really matter to you co-work gets on with the job on its own so you don't really have to spend

time renaming JPEGs like I did want are you ready to have an AI that can tackle real work try Claude co-work today Claude.ai slash NQAT that's Claude.ai slash NQAT there has to be some accountability because this was dreadful I saved for what 20 minutes in the second half when United well I mean basically when they made the changes on the hour we should talk about Carlos Blaber as well but we at some point at some point you have to say well we're eight games into the season now it's been wank apart from what 45 minutes second half against each switch when they completely crumbled moment when the buildup has looked nice but the defending has looked shoddy oppressed that is on off muddle they've played some good stuff in every game because there are some good players in the team but not consistently for 90 minutes and then you have to go well okay something's not working what am I going to do to change it he persisted with

Kunira's a false nine for a very long time I think because he liked the the boxing field it created he wouldn't have happened if Ann had been available it was because he didn't he didn't he for every I mean not for he doesn't trust they see doesn't he mustn't think they see's ready yet because he's had opportunities to play him he hasn't taken him he plays him he scores a brilliant go and he still won't play him and so this isn't me saying he should play in I on some level I think I probably accept that carrot knows what the lever is and what lacy's lever is better than I do so it's not really me saying he should pick lacy but I did feel definitely not yesterday I feel like we should have seen lacy before because the balance of the team was so obviously out of whack that it would have made more sense I would have chance to lacy just to get in Buma through the middle to get kurnia to the left yeah so that we've got a more balanced front three yesterday I understand why he didn't but I would 100% have played your out center back not because I'm certain but because I am certain that McGuire Martinez ain't it absolutely right you have to have

a clear vision I think it's in the Antonio Conte quote isn't it about the vision has to come from the manager and it has to be clear and everyone has to be behind it is is while they'll never hire him because that would be a chaos chaos but like so so carrot his halfway between a couple of things he is clear that he wants a team that has control but you can only have control in one phase of play if you won't press so they sometimes press and they sometimes don't he was very clear last season they were going to sit in this mid block and try and counter right and it wasn't pretty a one like I think it was eight games by one goal every time that like we were in trouble customer who scored ahead of from a set piece right and we and we knew yeah you said we and also I remember sitting here with you saying I like some of what I see but I feel like we're winning a lot of games on talent yeah and what we also had I think was we knew under um or him that we were able to out physical teams because we were starting some

of the games we won we felt like we were out physicaling teams and we we sort of recognize it because we haven't really seen it for quite some time and the further away we've got from that like what were the two best performances under carrot the first two sitting arsenal yeah the first two and I don't want to speak so confidently about how fit they are or aren't I find it big it doesn't look good on the pitch but I don't know if it's an issue of fitness how they've been prepared or intensity yeah there's a lot of toy to coach is you seem to know exactly what's happening carrying tonight don't believe it I don't know that and I can't I didn't like that line from T the moons about that I didn't I didn't like it but I'm not going to base a whole assessment on that one interview yeah but under um or him we definitely were out of physicaling teams and we're getting out of physical now I think and yeah and I don't know if it's because they're not fit enough or whatever it is but we do need to see something change and that's like we're

using same before that there needs to be some accountability and on the micro level I felt that there needs to be some accountability at half time of that game the yes for the same cunts to come out for the second half after that why yeah and and he didn't really change until the subs happened yeah you're just saying do the same thing again do it better or try harder no that like I that's not how it works like you can't get trounced by Tottenham although when I say trounce and they were the idea that we should have been 17 nil down which is what they're saying on the television suppose with two chances to slank you on and the could this one yeah two but it wasn't I think they were like peppering the goal we shot but they were far superior to us but I don't think yeah that you should be sending the same team out after a first half like that because I think partly because it's in I don't think it makes sense in terms of winning the game if that's how they're going to play but also I think you've got to send a message that if you play like an arsehole you may get hooked not if you yeah like an arsehole nothing happens I mean the thing with

suppose being on top they were on top they had 60% possession and they were running through our midfield because of all the reasons we've just talked about they didn't create a lot of great chances I mean son of lommons save from selankey that was a weird one where main news on his heels and lommons under hits the pass I mean it's a simple bounce pass I've blamed I've blamed the keeper for that more than may know yeah he's under hit the pass for sure and we had a similar one Kenya earlier this season didn't we where I think we actually conceded from that one where Kenya's on his heels as well and they may have a problem with lommons like they they so what happens a lot with united is a very very slow to build up as you say right they unless it's going through Martinez the passing is not crisp in to midfield even then they're taking 20 or 30 seconds to you know rolls out to McGuire on Martinez at 20 or 30 seconds goes in midfield there's no options it comes back goes to lommons they boot it long right and this pattern goes around and around and so it

may well be a weakness of lommons ability with his feet which is okay but not great right that they they're not able to build up in quite the way they want but that was one example but anyway the the wider point was I suppose they're on top but they didn't they were not they were not like 4xG up at half time and the game should have been outside it was just united was so lethargy yeah I think on that point with lommons also I think probably the idea is partly that you get enough confident ball players around him that doesn't matter yeah it doesn't make too much difference but on the subject also that first half what this team seems to that is someone who can sort that out as in I a Fergie team it wouldn't even have needed Fergie to tell them what to do someone now on the pitch have seen it and said and made some alterations and the leader is Bruno who I know he's not everyone's idea of a captain I think he's good at a lot of stuff as a captain but

he I think he's part of this problem in that he's not getting involved in midfield and I don't know if that's because he can't but also the person it's not just about the physical reorgan the actual tactical reorganization as shown some intensity by winning tackles or rattling someone wherever it is and I think it like it tends to be a bigger physical player that does that maybe maybe belabor can can be that person but yeah there's no as a collective they're weak and they're still weak and they've been weak for a long time and it doesn't yeah they're not a lot of types of personality who think who are able to say it's to call people in and tell them what to do and Harren stinks he's that guy but he's not he's the guy frontside with the apology interview but yeah it needs it needs some on pitch leadership that the we don't have yes I mean I don't know whether that is Carlos Blabor at all but what he did do when he was brought on and would bring

a bit a level of intensity there was there was clearly a step up from everyone else in this particular game I mean I can't imagine he's that fit right he hasn't played for 10 weeks he had 45 minutes of preseason with Brighton and that was after a couple of weeks of training right so yeah and then he got injured so I know he's been on the grass for quite a long times when did that phrase see pin to discourse on the grass it's a new one that is he's on the grass to get minutes but he he did bring something to the game he showed a few nice passes as well which is not really his strength but lovely sweeping ball out to Bruno for the goal actually it goes to Bruno who then hits the crossfield past the dallow in dallow course she hits a bed and goes backwards but on the on the when it's recycled that's when you know just score so yeah I think I mean I'm interested to see what we do with the label because ultimately we sort of need him to do two things we need him to be the guy who is ahead of the ball winning the ball high up because he does that yeah but we

also need him to be the guy that protects the defenders by chasing back and defending chowns and he's excellent at both of those things yeah and maybe he's got the physicality and the now's to do both he's I'm sure he's got the now's yeah but he's really he's got really good anticipation I think about where the ball's going to go and but I I can see us flogging in he will have to do two jobs though I mean he won't be the man who takes the ball off the centre back in the buildup that will be manual or tealamans and you saw that yesterday right he was position 10 15 yards ahead of meaning if you take away his ability to drive from one end to the other very quickly you take away a lot of what makes him what makes him outstanding so you don't you don't want him too high because he has the ability to cover a lot of ground and not a lot of time yeah yeah yeah no that's right I mean we don't want him having to cover 50 yards of space but 30 is fine and I think that's what I'll do the question about balancing we feel it's an interesting one is it immediately may new and the labor in midfield I mean we've all forgotten Santos existed he

I actually had a nice preseason he looked good and then he's 83 minutes so far this season well he's a difficult position now because if you play him he's not played and you play him in a game it will probably be shit and then you say oh he's shit yeah he's definitely not shit but we've seen him not be shit in the Premier League yeah it's just every game is must win every game is a minute or is your kind of on the edge of disaster and so I've been it's the same reason we keep seeing those same centerbacks because those are the ones characters he trusts the most even though obviously now we're seeing he can't trust them at all but it's the reason why we saw every game was basically McGuire Martinez last season because he felt like every game was it was going for a job was not was almost must win so he picked the players he thought most likely to deliver that and it's much harder to put players into a team doing badly whereas you can't really have a chance to get a climber's eyes yeah he's in a really difficult position I mean does back to our

earlier point on squad building it was that a good use of money if he's not going to play I mean and it is still early in the season right so things can change email forces waiting to the team or something but was it a good use of 50 million quid when when we don't have a striker now and we not have one for months and Luke sure looks like he's fucked and we're probably going to end up playing your right back in Dallow at left back on Tuesday night you know it's just like doesn't feel like a good balance does it and also you know that if you've signed you signed Tee the mons and you think you're getting whether it's belabor or somebody else what how yeah you're not what level of choices he that you're busing 50 million quid on him when you could get a fallback if we may well change that assessment if he if he comes good this season but it's really hard to see when he's going to start right yeah well's the use case I mean it's fair to point to the 40 million pounds of interest the United paid on various debts last season and the 63 million pounds they

spent on some land so and they may well have spent more than actually because there's there was a one line in their extended accounts about having bought more land so it will always that will always be part of the reason but then it will there'll always be how you husband the mega resources that you have yeah and that doesn't appear to have been done that well by I mean by any manager really or anyone who's overseeing and Zerkezie coming on also reminds you of that I mean a couple of nice flicks and then just he's called a goal for the Netherlands in the international break from about two feet out it's a tapping and the amazing thing about that was not that he didn't miss the tapping it was that who's actually in that position where a striker should be because what he loves to do is a couple of nice flicks he'd make a fucking awesome YouTube reel and and then I mean maybe maybe in a different era like in the 1970s when he'd been playing against a bunch of cloggers who had 17 points a night before I I don't know but I just cannot see him ever working

in a league where intensity does matter you know a couple of show go to flex and then nothing he is a shadow of the self that turned up at the beginning where he looked like to be like fucking you think like a pantomime horse there were those two people being in but one thing we could do and I hate myself for saying this because what the fuck is this but given the circumstances within you could play him as a kind of pivot center forward and then rashford and boom I the side trying to score goals I don't even think he's as good as Roberto for me know though he can you play that role you know different the Sebastian I learned it under 10 half yeah true yeah but yeah like I mean well we are clutching I was going to say we clutching it's still here but we're more clutching I'd know fire hoses given given the x is propensity to over a press but we but I'm just trying to think of ways and I hate this way but he might give us

a little bit of an extra man in midfield sometimes the problem we'd have again is obviously a laca with the no pace on the last line that well we'd have pace on the last line from the wide players but there wouldn't be any wit as the kids are actually have not do the room with the former girth yeah I mean I'm pretty sure that character lights at least one player to be wide and so that's why he's played rashford a lot whose if you look at his average touch is very wide right and now I might fit he's gone with Kenya his natural tendencies to drift inside and I might control some wit is definitely not coming from the fullbacks before the season even kicks off soccer fans are already making predictions who wins the league who qualifies for europe and who's lifting the trophy at seasons end on kalshi america's number one prediction market platform you're trading against peers in a live market meaning there's no house and as the probability changes you can buy in and out of your position for a limited time download the kalshi app and use code cup 26 to get

that trifecta of of dickhead but i don't understand very specifically don't the hairband and the ponytail do the same thing they hold the hair in place i don't know i've never used either of these tools in my life you in nice tight ponytail you don't need the hairband do you i mean i i remember being told the the dressing room at the store were not fans of him but he was properly properly i'm sure yeah but yeah the fun and games i mean that was that was quite pleasing really wasn't it i i like i love a good scrap to counter whatever you commentate or ever say yeah it was a shocking attempt to attack or by benton curl he's lucky didn't take the standing leg and it's it's what provoked leek shawgang fucking mad which is the first time i've ever seen him do that i think so i reminded me a bit of a car and the which player it was when one of them told them about the angriest they've ever seen awesome venga he's just like oh i think it was when we were five

one up half time and you're like oh that must have been scary but actually in the first instance annoyed me was that if it's sure haven't stopped to get angry well he could have i think he could have caught Bruno's pass anyway right yeah but it was nice to see him administer some retribution yes yeah yeah no so i mean he's been to call an then van der Ven clatters Bruno doesn't he after that there's the two shocking tackles in there and then yeah it should be a 50 cuffs i don't know it's the mildest of rage bait from leek shawgang a bit of a shawgang and then sicken you are heading someone's faces always i mean definitely record of course he always is i mean they're very clear about that it's potentially to even if it's not it's two yellows for the tack and the head yeah i mean did you see i didn't see it at the time but i've seen it on the internet did you see maguaia waving him off yeah i did it's really i do not say this lightly but that is some absolutely fucking classic herons yeah to do that and then be part of a defense that can't keep the lead it's great for the means that one is going to be used quite a lot

hopefully when city get relegated in a few months time or other favorite topic all right let's talk about how they managed to blow this then so i've got a voice in my head saying i want them to score now because then we'll at least have time to reach shy and retrieve it it's just so inevitable i look to the hours like oh my god yeah it's 2026 being a big fucking strapping center back is not necessary quite in the same way it might have been in the 80s and so some of the talk about the centromatine as his height has died down but if you're that small you at least try and jump don't you he just stood there the vegetarian butcher i was so i was so confused when the golemanine i was like i did just go all the way in from he's just a floated cross-bade tennalee right is a nothing ball but he just stands in does nothing i was like is it a foul is it offside is the ref blown what it's going on yeah the first infraction is and boomo not contesting the ball there's the ball drops outside the box in the first place and

boomo decides he's not gonna bother yeah but then as you said when it when the ball went in in the first place i guess i thought that he'd been fouled because it seemed yeah because he hadn't been contested the header it's like okay you've been fouled you've stopped this is fine but no it just didn't jump no and actually when you see on replay he's doing more fouling than being fouled i would say which in itself is fucking stupid because if you stop him getting the ball then it's a penalty yeah and it was just yeah it was various different levels if you stupid bastard son of lommons who's very chilled out and not prone to yeah it's like saying shit basically it was like yeah we have to defend much better and then he said but it starts further at the pitch or something to that tune right i was like okay yep yeah you're right there i mean he had a i don't think he could have come for that one he had a few moments in the games on lommons but again made a brilliance

from selankey so those crushes are always dangerous because you have to really wait until you see if there's any contact yeah because if there isn't you're going to get beaten like even if there was no contact you'd expect him to be beaten at the post he was beaten at and if there was contact generally expected to go the other way yeah so you sort of have to wait he does have a habit of not getting anywhere near anything that beats him just standing still yes and then you look at the things to beat him and you're sort of like well i can see that you wouldn't have got close to that and yet it does look weird to the eyes because it's not something you see often that a goalkeeper just doesn't get close to things as often as he doesn't get close to them he's another one actually you had a good international break him it's such a fucking joy for these cunts get into the if you're not in good encounters yeah i mean it's about it's 14 in the end wasn't it players that went out on an international duty had some of them a lot of football

which might have been the reason that dalle i didn't start yesterday i don't know exactly but then there were a lot of players at Harrington as well that's there some you would have thought not sure what they would do they could have been coach some kind of shape for this game that would have made it not like it was and one of the things i was thinking when like sure is when there's all that kufuffle before the red card it's like where was this energy in minute one yeah that that should take like Roy Geith has you don't get to test football matches are the reasonable frame of mind it shouldn't take someone reminding you of a career threatening injury that you had a decade ago like to get you to there you should be somewhere close to there every day and every day in training and Luke sure in particular i don't want to out him for this particular because it's all of them but he feels like one of those players you hear you hear pros say that the difference between those that make it and those that don't is not talent it's talent plus

mentality and Luke sure feels like one of those players who's got through on pure talent because he had so much of it it's definitely a year too long he's been at the club for sure like i have no faith in in or out possession i wouldn't have minded him staying but just not a first choice yeah well exactly yeah and there's no other options now Patrick Dogg is injured for a few weeks sure look like he was injured at the end of that game i don't know yeah his recovery time is not quick i'd be surprised to be placed on Tuesday quick beast yeah i'd go and call peps doctor doctor Fuentes doctor Saggar he said there's so many of them actually getting on to a different topic now but yeah i we're going to be in a situation where likely we've got dallo at left back on Tuesday night we're yoro at right back again is that okay with yeah as you play nice football athletes go they won yesterday but the deputy though aloevés i think it was they were playing down to ten men

but yeah they they've got some seriously quick they look man quick johnson david who's not the world's best striker but he's quick see me only who runs all day like he runs and he runs and he runs and he runs there's still a lot of old man cocaine midfield but and johnny car dosos again like he's a bit vachine kicker but he at least has energy i am seriously worried that it's it's not just that we'd lose on Tuesday but it might be ugly so i don't think it should be like that but it's just it's more that if i go a photo leads como yeah i can't see i can't see many points coming out of that and then you're getting and if that happens and three three draws would be all right really but if it doesn't go well you're starting you're getting to the point where are we writing the season off or are we firing the manager is going to be a binary it's going to look a binary and and it seems to happen so quickly and but how are we here right we're only eight games into the season so i suspect there's going to be more patience

that you know they can't have an appetite for firing another coach eight games into the season but it is just this this period this next ten games this but it's not giving me in there anywhere i don't think anyone has an appetite for it it's just we just know what this feels like when it gets to this kind of point we know what that feels like and we know what it looks like when you're getting the least possible out of what you've got yeah and how long do you wait until the season is trashed or do you not their entire business model is built on the getting into the champions league and we have and we could just get one more season in the champions league that would mean a lot financially to what we could do in the summer yeah it doesn't look like that's going to happen we don't we can't because it's also a bitching about a defense but we're not scoring goals either no and and we see it sometimes happens like this we're what used to it now where starts off with missing chances and then it gently mutates to not creating chances we can

before the international break i had a chat with darnish maybe it was on the final tactic show before the international break but like my general feeling was so they're close right there's a few things that are close to working they were creating a lot of chances were not good quality ones that was obvious it's like they were trying to do some pressing they are I think they definitely in the bottom quartile I can't remember their the lowest on some of the gradient sports metrics or any of the metrics number intense pressures it's very very very low right and I was just like just a couple of things and this could look a lot better in those margins that decide games we're going out it's favor but it's really hard to look at the game and suppose yes in an hour of completely passive zero intensity I was feeling before the international break it was on fine margins that things were just going against United but you couldn't say that about about about about to burst I mean they've scored late to equalize you're like you know so close but they were

shite for all but 15 or 20 minutes yesterday that first hour for sure before all the subs and then as soon as the red card happens so what we've got we've got between 60 minutes and 78 minutes when they played all right and then apart from that it was just utter bollocks right and and you can't look at that and go oh that's fine margins because it was just as bad as it gets no that's that that's that's what happens the margins they start off fine and then it snowballs shits balls integers like worse and worse and the confidence is low but at the same time they have the players to make you believe they can win any game because they can it doesn't look like they're going to which I guess I mean you know you don't want to start down this road but at some point there they'll be the stories coming out about I don't know Wilcox loves a press briefing doesn't he so like about doubts about the manager I mean it seems like they're they're locked set behind him you you can't give the guy the

permanent job you know he's baradon his Wilcox and it's raccliffe I've seen Wilcox wearing a cardigan under his club blazer I mean I don't even know where else to say I don't think we need to even so very much more than that now that's right I mean if we ended up in a situation in a couple of months time if they've lost a whole bunch of these games coming up and the performance is a still dog shit then of course talk is going to end up there like you know the next 10 games are properly tough what about 10 now they've never why but no why things for these next three them and it could well lose next three I mean like playing like this yeah and then there will be talk of course and then you know the manager market is probably more open than it was in the summer because there's there's Nagel's man he definitely is not everyone's cup of tea Eddie how God fuck me if they did that I can't stand I can't contain I it just seems like oil and water they contain this particularly leadership team I just don't know that they'd want to be I remember when Amarin got sacked he got sacked for speaking out in a press conference no no I don't think I think

they'd want to touch come say I don't think they'd touch him I mean I he's obviously the best candidate if it would if it would to get to there in the set in terms of like what he's done is pedigree and he's TV yeah he can't be doing the three at the back no he's the right guy probably in terms of pedigree but because then the problem is is you end up united so almost it's this impossible job it's too big for anyone who's up and coming anyone who is at their peak basically has a job or wouldn't touch it because they don't have to because he wants to go and work for these people or you go for someone who probably slightly over the hill and that's we keep cycling through these different methods and it's just it doesn't work because partly because maybe it's not possible that it could work under this management and the only time we'll be able to get good again is when they've got which won't be any time soon there's not some kind of magic billionaire out there about to dump you know six billion pounds on united and solve all our problems magically that's

what it would have to take up hers yeah a massive massive offer it would probably have to be a world record for a sports franchise apologies for the Americanism but yeah it's not I mean given what's happening with city it's obviously not going to be the UAE and what's even worse is they just about the fan field and the rescues were in triple color he's got like some crappy anirac on and a jumper with a collar and a shirt underneath another dick adult and really like made he needs to work for Wilcox yeah yeah well I mean we can send Wilcox back there yeah I mean look I don't want to get ahead of our skis but if it did did come to firing another manger surely someone else has to take responsibility as well you've got like who other people that are a point because that'd be I'd be ten hug amaran and then karik ten hug twice ten hug twice in the in the in the us era and you've got to say it's that'd be Catholicismic I mean we're not there yet but definitely the

mood can you know we just know what it's like at this club the mood can turn toxic pretty quickly and also karik he just doesn't I'm sure I've said this before but I was told from inside the club when he was there with other they didn't think he had it was bright enough to be the manager ultimately it's mean but that's what I was told yeah yeah he doesn't seem to have the in the beginning he had the charisma of status he doesn't need to be the sharpest life the is bloke because he's a nice guy and the players respects him because of what he's done in the game but now it's turning to shit he doesn't seem he's got in a steal because you don't do what he did as a player without having that but he's not really transmitting it he he's doing this whole composure thing and it's actually it's not really the time for composure it's the time for aggression yeah we I mean obviously to our earlier point we don't know what's happening behind the scenes and we will see on Tuesday whether there really is accountability for the poor performances or you know change in approach or

something like that it's going to get to the point quite quickly where there has to be a change in approach because like you know you can't just keep getting dog sheet results and not changing anything because that only leads in in one direction doesn't it it happened with our tether where our tether out covid probably saved our tether in that when they were losing game after game after game in front of empty grounds had those grounds been full and they're getting being I'm not getting beat at home again again I'm not sure he could have survived it and he's almost getting fired and then they played Chelsea I think is it on boxing day maybe and he plays Smith Row and I think he may be plays Sacka as well and Sacka and Smith Row basically saved his job and I'd not I don't think that we've quite got those same young players you can come in and do that but he needs to do something to live and shit up like we can't have more of this soporific shit because that is going to get him fired and someone in the same way we sort of have a rim in a different way where like the formation and the way that he was insisting the players

we're going to get him fires what character's doing if he keeps doing it it's going to get him fires yes yeah we can't be running over the effectively one point to play the game here they just cannot cannot happen and what how many is it two wins this season it's it's sat by our own it's switch and yeah we've played I think it I'm right in saying we played we played two promoted clubs so far two teams who ten men and two teams who are bossing on the table at this time we played them yeah I know it's not good and and that's it it's that and it's almost like it's arrogant as well that you keep going wrong and you're like no no no you just got to follow my instructions better and play better yourselves no mate you have to change what the instructions are you have to make them clearer and you have to change what the game model is because everyone is take everyone is exploiting those things and ultimately if you if he if he's not getting told to change this has been perhaps part of the problem again you don't really want to conjecture but trap who are his

coaches Steve Holland who has some experience and some now but at the same time when was he last to club involved in club football yeah a long time ago that long time ago like his change since the last time he was involved that's him woodgate was assistant to caricate borough yeah and and Evans the loans manager yeah and Travis Binion who's with the the 21s here that doesn't seem smart enough experienced enough innovative enough I was surprised they didn't bring in more coaches in that I thought they would beef up that team because he is a very small team to help almost a novice manager and who's doing the fitness because I'm a room's fitness guy there we don't have a fitness guy do we and I'm not sure that we have especially this fitness guy and we don't have a set piece coach either so again like and they did this a bit with all they as well like I felt like they needed to give him more tools to succeed yeah and they didn't none is no I'm not just talking about signing in players it's also people that can help him so he can do be the figurehead and do the stuff that he can do and I feel like they're letting that happen

to carry as well and they are going to have to fire him I mean if it continues like this of course that it's going to be that conversation will come around again okay well let's look at this in a different way out of 10 what of chances carrot sees out the season in your opinion six and this isn't what I want to happen or anything like that I'm just saying I don't I can't see it improving enough but let's see if he decided for the next 10 games we're going to do what we did last season we're just going to sit in a deeper block and try and use our pc players up front and counter and have two midfield just sitting in front protecting so we don't ship goals and we rely on talent going forward he could start getting results again right that's the thing that saves him but does that work without sesco on the bench and cassimero yeah sure yeah yeah absolutely yeah I'm far from certain it does those two probably scored 80% of our clutch goals in that carrot period but Bruno was fit and that's also if Bruno's not fit that's he isn't doesn't look fit again we're seeing without him it's not really very good going forward and so I don't

it doesn't feel like that kind of run because all season you manager then so you're getting new energy it doesn't feel like that kind of run is possible it feels like the only way he can save himself and I don't even think this can probably save him is trying to is committing to the kind of football he wants to play by playing the kind of by playing the players that can facilitate it and that means pace at the back that's the biggest thing it's pace at the back and balance everywhere else so it's got to be euro at least I mean who knows what's going on with the lift but it's been training for a long time yeah so it's it's it maybe it's those two of your center backs and then the full backs we don't have options then the midfield is manual and belabor and it's and when you press up front yeah and then the balance up front is a right side yeah it's either it's a boomer through the middle basically or zirke z with with wingers with with with goals wingers trying to score off him I mean he's he won't he hasn't done it but he he also has the option of playing russia through the middle which gives you that pace and no drunken

behind he played russia played there quite a bit for Barcelona last season and he also done the marinho yeah yeah and you know it's it's maybe russia doesn't want to play there or or carrot doesn't right in there or he has different ideas about what we're going to do he certainly won't be involved in in the buildup in the same way that couldn't you was but neither is him boomer when you playing through the center so it something does have to change though whatever whatever the thing is someone needs to be in his ear and I hope he's got people around him that will be honest with him and say yeah it's not just them it's also you all right at let's go on Tuesday then what what if you were picking eleven now for a team that is in good form winning a lot of games place nice football scoring goals what is it I guess lemons dallo euro I guess maguire fucking out don't sure if he's fit don't know I mean we won't do this but I've like part of me

has wondered if you look at the way the Arsenal use califuri and think could we stick blabber there so you're getting the coverage down the left side but at left back you also getting him every and then you you're getting him in midfield as well and then you go to three center backs like in times of shape when he does that it won't happen but whoever the I don't know who the left back is but then the midfield blabber main who if Bruno isn't fit I'd play mount and then I guess we've got to get amad going so amad and boom oh kunya yeah it looks quite like the spurs game that does so it's not what well do but maybe it's got to start even if you can't make more than an hour he he he has to start like just just for the energy as well to compete in midfield and he needs to because we need him to play in the next game in the next one in the next one it's time like we can't we can't wait for him unfortunately the the map pace in this athletic side is worrying I mean look moanies blows hot and cold doesn't he but he's seriously

quick so is Jonathan David if he plays so obviously they've also got Julian average I'm not sure of his fit at the moment and then simio only runs and runs and runs as I said Grimaldo left back like we'll do loads of overlapping runs will overload that side so whoever's our right back is you know going to have a lot of work to do he has to start though and it's balanced everywhere else or all you do think where I mean you know you probably could do with some wit because they're likely to not have much of the ball or you do a thing where Bruno plays in the the front three on the right hand side and and boom I'm sure he'll meet all and kunya and he bringing one extra midfielder with Bruno doing man I wouldn't necessarily object to it if we had a right back who could offer with or if we had a center forward because we're getting Bruno's to the free yep but we don't but we don't we don't have so and in there wisdom they decided they didn't need a backup strike air and the rest yeah it desperate to offload Josh Xe and didn't manage to do it for whatever

stupid reasons money basically well I mean at one point Everton tried to sign in like 1158 on the deadline day Gido obi's out on loan he's so far I checked it yesterday he's he's had about 40 minutes worth of action all off the bench doesn't look like that so her loan is going great so far though I haven't been watching it closely and and then you see Danny Danny well-break like still playing well over at Chelsea and he costs nothing and you're like I mean we could all see that we could all see that he was worth having but 100% worth having all right maybe we should leave it there I'm not feeling very confident about these next three games at all all right everyone thank you very much you can catch our extra show on patreon just sit for no question about that and if you're listening you can also see our beautiful faces on the youtube channel many new followers recently hungry for anti city content I'm off to watch Liverpool and City and hopefully I haven't seen it so far the scouts have got any decent banners I did see one that I thought

was quite good but I forgot what it said now I mean they like long-winded speeches on banners and this is a time I mean it's never a time for that but this is a time for pithy I got I was talking about pithy the 51 ticker that went up on the strip for then I have to say I know it's root one I like it because it's very very simple it very clearly says that entire era of your cheating counts for nothing well I I agree I think they were I think what happened with that banner was it got taken away in the first instance by the bloke who owned it after the takeover after they after they won the FA Cup wasn't it no no no no no the original got got taken away by someone who boycotted after the takeover and I think there was some consternation at the time because it's like no my idea I fucking took it away for a yeah for a matter of principle and then it just got reanimated and so yeah I think I think the one there was the second one there was actually not not the original one but yeah I mean obviously it's too far too good an opportunity to miss here we are all right we'll leave it there thank you very much Daniel thank you very much listeners viewers wherever you are
