Why is there a lack of buzz for Ohio State this season?

It's weird because I am excited about Ohio State football. I'm very excited that we're watching a bunch of legitimate football games this weekend, whether you think Ohio State ball state is, it's legit or not. So I'm, I am very excited about this. I also look at this and go, all right. I like, I think they'll be in the playoffs and we'll see. I feel like that is, I feel like Ohio State is one of those teams, one of the rare teams that because the expectations are so high, the threshold for like getting super excited about them has gotten too high as well. It's interesting because on one side of it, it's like, well, they have two highsmen potentials or at least two people that are in the highsmen favorite list before

1:03the season gets underway. They should have one of the best quarterbacks in college football. They should have one of the best coaches in college football. At least he's perceived that way and like everything stacks up for them in a way that should suggest a lot of good things will happen. But then there's some scary points there here that exist as well. The idea that they have eight new starters on the defensive side of the ball. I'd be a little worried about that. That defense average 10 points a game last year. They were dominant last season. And the idea that you're just going to replace that and expect it to be awesome. Ohio State typically does, but it's just a hard ask. I think so much of their dominance last year was that I think Matt Patricia is better suited for the college game. That's why I think he's better suited for what they want to do defensively than Jim Nolesus. I think Jim Nolesus is a system guy. And I think unless you have the exact right players to I don't think Jim Nolesus going to be a I'll be and I had reservations about Jim Noles, then didn't hate him as DC. But watching Matt Patricia with some guys having left

2:06the previous year have a better defense. It just blew my brain. I know it's so much of last year though, even the Patricia part of this. It was what was smiling there. I'm going to say blow my blow my mind. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, I think it'd been accomplished what you were trying to say. It's something worse. Yeah, you're fine. This isn't what's going to get you canceled. There'll be something far more problematic down the line. I think it's going to be fine. I think it's going to be far more like that and that of all the things you could have gotten Wilson. It's my biggest fear. Honestly, it's going to be like this. This is the one. This is what this is how it is happening. I can do worse. I promise you. Last year though, they were able to sleepwalk outside of the Texas game in week two, obviously. But they were able to sleepwalk for the majority of the season. And so even like Patricia, it's great as he was. I can't ever give fewer than 10 points of game last year and they're turning over this whole entire defense. I like Patricia. A lot of last year is not what this schedule is going to be this year. Six, six teams in the top 25. They got to take on this year before we get to the playoffs. Like this is a, this is a different beast for this Ohio State team.

3:06Well, and I think, I think what Tate said is true, which is that Arthur Smith over Brian Hartline, Brian Hartline is a buck. I legend. I beloved guy in the Ohio State community. And certainly got a lot of love here in Cleveland as well. Vroom being just down the road. But I don't know he was a truly great play caller, great offensive coordinator. I think Arthur Smith is going to be a lot more in line with the chip Kelly kind of higher. Sure. And so you know, I think Brian Hartline getting a head coaching job was right. I think you might end up being a better head coach than he was a coordinator. I think, I think that could be a real win for for Julian saying, I think in under talked about part of last year's Ohio State team was the idea that against really good teams against good opponents, Julian saying in that offense did not run. It didn't they barely scored against Texas in week two. They barely scored against Indiana in the big 10 title game. They barely scored against Miami. You have it's 12 points a game in those three contest neck like they have it's 30 a game and all the other games. You have it's 12 points a game against the three toughest opponent you had. I think the offense is a lot of room to grow. And I think it's

4:10gonna see, but what's crazy about this is we're talking about it and it still feels once removed. Like usually like we start talking about the Browns or even you know, Ohio State in previous years, more start talking about the more you kind of get gassed up. I just kind of I kind of this is there is an element to what the naysayers have said about college football, the doomsdayers have said where it was like, well, you're eventually going to make the regular season irrelevant. I don't think it'll ever be irrelevant for about 93% of college football. I think Ohio state is in the 7%. I think they're a team that it's like, yeah, wake me up at the end of November and hopefully beat Michigan and the next. I agree with your main point is that it just kind of feels like they're going to get to the playoffs and it is what it is. But I think this year's different because it's so stacked last year that definitely had that last year. There was I mean, the Texas game was fun, but there was a lot of there was a lot of nothing in a lot of that schedule. Six preseason top 25 teams in this schedule. Like I just think I every single week feels like a blockbuster.

5:14You're going to get more invested. Maybe maybe it'll honestly after the ball state game, then you're going to Texas. Maybe that's when it kind of changes. I would think so. I would hope so. You're right though. There's not a lot of enthusiasm at the moment. And again, by the way, I don't even like I won. I'm a little out on this Texas team because it's been described as the best Texas team that Sarkeesians ever had the best ones since going back to the Vince Young, Texas Longhorns. And here's the thing they've had plenty of NFL talent in Texas. I think the problem is Sarkeesian. I don't think he's a big and I could end up eating these words at this season. I don't think he is a prime time coach. I think he's a little over and flated. I think honestly, I think the argument that the morning show had about Ryan Day is he a is he a great coach or does he just have great players? I think that was completely miscast. I think that's a conversation about Steve Sarkeesian. Because Steve Sarkeesian when it comes to big games does not deliver enough for me. Which is funny because we have a lot of college coaches that are that way. Like when you say Sarkeesian, that you're right, but I always think of Dan landing in that regard now. I'm like,

6:16Dan landing is my new version of Sarkeesian. Doesn't win in the big game. I think I was going to change that by the way. I think I was going to have a really nice year this year. So I'm trying to get ahead of it. And then we'll see if he can prove me wrong. But like there's there's enough coaches out there that exist that can't get the big game.
