Why "Leader" Also Means "Ladder

There's one German word that quietly changed how I lead.

In German, the word for leader is Leiter.

Leiter also means ladder.

Same word. Same spelling. Leader... ladder.

Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Because a ladder exists for one reason. To help someone reach a place they couldn't get to alone. It holds steady while you rise. And it asks for nothing back.

In this episode I sit down with Sammy, my social media student assistant, and what starts as a funny language fact turns into the truest definition of leadership I've found.

We think leadership means standing above people. The title. The spotlight. The corner office.

A ladder does none of that.

A ladder doesn't climb for you. It doesn't brag about how high it goes. It just creates support, steady enough to trust.

So I walk Sammy through the three things a real leader actually does:

→ Creates stability... because nobody wants to follow a shaky leader → Supports every step, not just the top one... growth happens gradually → Remembers they are not the destination... they are the pathway

The best leaders don't build followers. They build more leaders.

Am I trying to be in the spotlight... or am I willing to be the ladder?
