This is East Coast radio.
If I were to talk about the first time I purchased a car,
and I wish I had somebody giving me advice,
because the first time I purchased a car, it was weird.
So Andy, James, did you have a first car?
No.
But you still don't have a first car?
Nope.
OK.
OK, so you're going to try and be the voice of reason
here for me, right?
So picture this, right?
The first car I ever had was an Opel Astra, right?
OK.
Now, when I got the car, it already was really old.
So when I say really old, the car had about 143,000 Ks.
It's got a car.
Yeah, it was like nine years old.
It looked amazing.
And I was one of those guys where I wasn't a fan of a GTI,
because everybody around me had one.
Wait, were the GTIs when you were 21?
Yeah.
Andy, we're going back about 20 years now.
Come on.
Come on, Andy, James.
That's the topic for another day now, right?
Anyway, so when I got this Opel Astra,
the first thing I did was I obviously
looked at how it looked.
And I enjoyed it.
So I never really thought about the Kilometres
and what problems could come to light on the screen, right?
And I didn't know what the light meant.
Those yellow light that came on now and again.
And if anybody got an Opel Astra,
you know what I'm talking about, right?
So this light came on.
Now, this car is out of warranty.
So it means if it breaks down your own.
So I'll never forget the one time I was driving on the M4,
this light came on, but nothing happened to the car.
So I was thinking, OK, let me put the accelerator down
a little bit more.
So when I drive a little faster, then the light will go off.
So I thought this car was telling me to drive faster,
you know, maybe that would happen, you know?
So one day I'm driving on the M4 just before the,
the, I'm slunger turn off.
Yeah.
I do, the light comes on, I put the foot down,
then he hit, boom, then the car all just shuts down
and I park off on the side of the road.
I don't have enough air time on my cell phone to call somebody.
And then a tow truck just came out of nowhere.
Says, hey, do you need help us?
Of course, I need help.
That moment when you see it in movies,
when people open the bonnet and you just see smoke.
Yeah.
That's what I had.
I had engine smoke.
So I knew I did something bad.
But then I realized, don't buy a second hand car
without researching the car, right?
So my biggest problem was I had a second hand car
as my first car that had engine failure.
So did you ever find out what that yellow light was?
Yeah.
What's it called?
Apparently some pistons were going offline
and basically I shot the whole thing off
because it literally blasted through anyway.
So I want to know from you, right?
Let's throw it back for a moment to your very first car.
Maybe barely started in the mornings.
Maybe it had no aircon.
Maybe it had radio, no radio.
Maybe that cassette, no cassette.
Maybe that a CD player or a shuttle, whatever it may be.
But you loved it anyway.
Tell us about your first car.
What it was?
Give us the spec.
What's the story that goes along with it?
Hi, Dion, it's Sam Bolcher from The Bluff.
My absolute funny story about my first car,
I bought a polo player back in 2011
and I just got my license and my manual license
and I couldn't get clutch control on this car.
Every time I would stop at a robot,
this car would switch off.
It was so embarrassing.
I had it for like four months
and then I decided I'm getting rid of it
and I'm getting an automatic.
So yeah, I've driven an automatic since then.
That's it's Jeremy from Pretty Mary'sburg.
My first vehicle was a 1982 Ford escort
and whenever it rained, the water would go through
the windscreen rubber
and the water would literally drip on my legs
and not only that, but when driving at night,
the lights, the relay would overheat.
So the lights would just turn off
and it wouldn't go back on again.
Hi, Dion, it's Valerie from Pretty Mary'sburg.
Happy Monday to you.
My first car was a Toyota Corolla 1987 model
which was a chisel shape and in Stardust.
That was the color.
It was given to me for my 21st birthday from my dad
and it brought back so much of memories.
I mean, I've had that car for almost three, two years
before I had to sell it.
I was forced to because she couldn't work anymore.
But gee, it was beautiful
and I always cherish those memories.
As a guys, Jazeja from Toyota,
my first vehicle was a Renault 9.
I bought it from my uncle.
He charged me three and a half thousand
ran for the car and took the car home,
drove it for a couple of days and the exhaust fell off.
Then I realized things were all together with Prestik,
ended up paying a thousand, five hundred
and never paid the rest of the money.
And yeah, then that's all that car.
Hi, East Coast Radiation Tour from Westbourne.
I had a, you know, 2001 model.
It used to cut out while I was driving
and had to carry a place
and snack the fuse box together going again.
Hi, dear, I'm Mrs. Sui Frempner from Moment of Loomit.
My first car was in 1966
and it was a console mark one.
The picture in the paper looked so smart.
It was 30 pounds and the gentleman agreed
to let me pay 10 pounds off a month
because he knew where I worked and he knew my boss
and I was so proud I went to collect it.
It had car seat covers on those funny ones
and I got in the driver's seat and I was so chuffed.
I hadn't even gone half a mile and roof came down.
And when I got half a truck to cover the roof
and the passenger seat had no car, nothing in there.
It was just a spring at the bottom.
Obviously a dog or something had attacked it.
Anywhere, it's about cotton wool
and all sorts of things to fill it.
But that was my first car.
A console mark one, glue.
Have a great day, love your shirt.
Hey East Coast Radio, it's Nico from Cloof here.
My first car was a 2007 Toyota Prius.
The little 1.5 hybrid that my parents gifted to me
for my 21st and that thing was incredible.
It took me places.
It probably shouldn't have gone.
It probably shouldn't have made it there,
but it just went and kept going.
As much as it had a few hiccups, it would not die.
It just kept going and going.
And you're 500 and you're full of tank
for 800 kilometers.
It's definitely a friend of that.
Yeah, I love that car and I know that car love me.
Definitely need to find myself and I don't know those.
Hey, hey Dion, it's Michelle.
Wanted something small and cute,
you know ideal for a female driver
and saw the Hyundai I-10
when it first came out in the market and I liked it.
And then I saw the Hyundai I-20 convertible
and instantaneously fell in love.
So much for love at first sight though.
I didn't want to put myself through financial debt,
so I decided to save up money and buy it cash.
Unfortunately, when I finally saved up the money,
the car was no longer available.
At least to say, I ended up having two cars.
One, I bought myself and one, I needed it from my late dad.
Good afternoon, this goes video.
My name is Linda, I'm from Phoenix.
My first car was a Audi team.
I refused to buy just anything.
I wanted something that was fast.
I bought my car and I ran and I bought my car
without even a mechanical inspection my vehicle
that I was interested in buying.
There was a time where I did get stuck
where my car refused to start,
but you know, I'm absolutely nothing about the cars.
I used to always carry a toolbox in my car
with whatever I thought I needed.
My car was just swinging and not starting
and I opened the computer box.
I checked everything, then I checked the fuse box
and I just opened everything
and I started checking all the fuses.
I knew exactly what to check for, somehow.
And I changed one fuse and my car started.
And from then I decided that whenever my car
was giving me a problem, I would shake it myself.
That was the story of my car.
I was a young back in 1989.
I was just earning 200 grand a week
and there was a crola, a 1979 crola sprinter.
That my brother, that I borrowed the money
for my brother to buy.
And three months into the deal, the vehicle got stolen
and I had to pay him 200 grand a month
for the next two years for a car that I did not have.
It was very, very heartbreaking.
Cheers, Salon.
Hi, Dion.
My first car I ordered when I was in the early 20s
and this was about a year ago.
It was a little Chevy hatchback.
It was so nice and solid.
It used to go thunk when you close the doors
and you could use a plumbers tool to take out any dents.
And it cost me 1,800 grand.
And I used to park it on a downhill every single time
to make sure that I could run started
because the start to match it didn't work.
And I loved that car.
Hi, Dion.
Great show.
My first car, T7, 78, I would say.
I bought my first car as a Mazda RX 2.
Wow, awesome power.
But it was a gasoline fuel.
And the old days we used to go from shuttle
to a clover leaf, anywhere the members clover leaf.
And yeah, so much of fun.
I still own some super hot cars.
Even though in two years time I'm going to be 70,
but I'm crazy, I think that keeps me young.
Hi, Dion, this is Cindy here.
My first car was a little red and white Ford Cortina
that I purchased from my then boss for $3,950.
I don't know where the $950, but that's what it cost me.
And it was my wheels.
It was my freedom.
Yes, I had a radio.
It didn't have a cassette.
No icon.
But it was my freedom.
And it drove like a little dream.
Hello, Lisa.
Welcome to the show.
Now, we were talking about first car stories.
I believe you've got an interesting story to share with us.
I do from our first car to the listening scene chart.
And the Zinschis Gaming Hattles, I end up
starting the car with the food.
I use the short type of sauce and the coffee
and touching the sauce notes in the soda noise.
And after a while, we were on the middle car.
Wait, hold on now.
You had tools in your center to make it start.
Yeah, I've seen a cheap thing from the kitchen.
Oh, what? Who taught you that?
Well, father.
So wait, how did you get rid of this car when it was finally up?
I actually saw that I was actually scored
because we had seen she saw it without the sauce,
so obviously we couldn't start it back.
Couldn't start it by showing it in the right spot, the car.
Yeah.
But yes, I've been on my foot.
I'm on my foot.
But it's good to reminisce and look
at the feel good memories you have with your center.
Oh, yeah, I go at this.
It was good sign in the end.
Yeah, I miss the car.
Yeah, but it was a part you trick for my kids.
Ah, that's a good story.
Do you have a picture of it?
I think I do.
Yeah, that's the memory now you should have with them, right?
Yes, yes, yes, please.
Awesome, Lisa.
Thanks for sharing with us and have a wonderful afternoon now.
This is East Coast Radio.
