Former Iraqi politician and military officer
Ali Hassan al-Majid, also known as 'Chemical Ali', is a former Iraqi politician and military officer. He was a key figure in the Iraqi government during the 1980s and was responsible for the use of chemical weapons against Kurdish civilians. Al-Majid was a member of Saddam Hussein's inner circle and served as the deputy chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council. He was also the commander of the Iraqi Republican Guard's 2nd Brigade. Al-Majid was arrested in 1995 and put on trial for war crimes. He was executed by hanging in 2010. Born in 1941 in Baghdad, Iraq, al-Majid was a close ally of Saddam Hussein and played a significant role in the Iraqi dictator's regime.
