Scottish poet and essayist
James Beattie was a Scottish poet, essayist, and literary critic. He was born in 1735 and died in 1803. Beattie was a prominent figure in the Scottish Enlightenment and was known for his contributions to the development of Scottish literature. He was also a professor of rhetoric at the University of Edinburgh. Beattie's works include poetry, essays, and literary criticism. He is considered one of the most important Scottish writers of the 18th century.
