Jean-Baptiste de La Salle was a French Catholic priest and founder of the Christian Brothers. He was born on April 30, 1651, in Reims, France. La Salle was a devout Catholic and dedicated his life to education and the care of the poor. He founded the Christian Brothers in 1680 and established schools and orphanages throughout France. La Salle was canonized as a saint in 1867.
