The John Mackey Award is an annual college football award given to the best tight end in the nation. The award was established in 2001 by the National Association of Football Writers of America (NAFWA). The award is named after John Mackey, a legendary tight end who played for the Baltimore Colts and Los Angeles Rams in the 1960s. Mackey was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992. He is considered one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. The John Mackey Award is presented annually to the top tight end in college football, as voted on by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
