Pierre-François Bouchard was a French military officer who played a key role in the discovery of the Rosetta Stone. He was born in 1757 in Paris, France, and served in the French army during the French Revolution. Bouchard was part of a military expedition to Egypt in 1799, where he discovered the Rosetta Stone. He brought the stone back to France, where it was studied by scholars, including Jean-François Champollion. Bouchard died in 1800 at the age of 43.
