Founder of the Zohar and Kabbalistic sage
Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai was a Jewish sage and mystic who lived in the 2nd century CE. He is best known for writing the Zohar, a foundational text of Jewish mysticism. According to legend, bar Yochai and his son Rabbi Elazar hid in a cave for 13 years to escape persecution, during which time he wrote the Zohar. He is considered one of the most important figures in Jewish mysticism and is still widely studied and revered today.
