Richard Collins was a British Army officer and colonial administrator who served in South Africa during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a key figure in the British colonization of the Cape Colony and played a significant role in the development of the region. Collins was also a skilled military strategist and intelligence gatherer. He is best known for his reports on the amaXhosa people and his involvement in the Hottentot Proclamation of 1809. Collins was born in 1776 and died in 1828. He is remembered as a key figure in the history of South Africa.
