Joseph McCarthy was a US Senator from Wisconsin who rose to prominence during the Red Scare of the 1950s. He was a leading figure in the anti-communist movement and was known for his accusations of communist infiltration in the US government. McCarthy was a vocal supporter of the House Un-American Activities Committee and was a key figure in the Blacklist. He was later censured by the Senate for his tactics and died in 1957. McCarthy was a native of Wisconsin and was known for his bombastic and divisive personality.
