Attorney General of the Cape Colony
William Porter was the Attorney General of the Cape Colony from 1849 to 1851. He played a key role in drafting the newly minted constitution for the colony. Porter was a utilitarian liberal who later renounced his support for universal suffrage for men of all colours. He is remembered for his significant contributions to the development of the Cape Colony's legal system.
