So how was last night as an intro to Buffalo fans? Yeah, it was quite an experience to be honest. I've been to one other game in Chicago, but we were able to be close at the beginning. But then when the game went on, we went up. But it took a couple of videos. It was pretty nice. It was awesome. I want your thoughts when you found out you didn't agree. I was surprised. I didn't know something was happening. But honestly, I'm really happy to be here. I think watching the group last year play the whole season in the playoff as well, it was something really fun to watch. And I know, really excited to join the group and chip in what I can. What happened last year that allowed you to reach a new level in a lot of your potential? Yeah. I think it was mainly just confidence, honestly.
I had a good, well- always, serious and a good way. Before I was a little bit too nervous, and I started, you know, I always say caring less in a good way, just go out and play. And I think it helped me just play my game and have confidence in what I can bring to the team. And I think that was the best thing that could have happened to me. I worked on it to off the ice. It's not just something that happens, but that was the main point for me, just confidence. I'm sorry, I didn't know. How did you like your thinking about that in office? How did you get to that point where you were able to relax or whatever? It was just mental stuff. We have, I think we had a great mental coach in Chicago when he helped me a ton. And that was something for me that just really improved my game. And there's still a lot of things I can work on, but I feel in a way better place than when
I started in the NHL and just was scared to make mistakes, and everything like that. So I just went out there and play and helped me. So I'm sorry. You're very good. You almost said that you had off-season shoulders or anything. Where are you at as far as your recovery and getting ready for the season? Where are you at right now? Yeah, I feel good, honestly. I think it's going really well. It wasn't my first operation ever, so it was a different summer. That was the shoulder is really good. It was just over the summer. I was unable to maybe skate as much as I wanted at first, and different drills in the gym and everything like that. But I feel right now. I feel really good. I'm not thinking about my shoulder when I want the ice. I think it's just a matter of time. But I'm working hard to be ready for the season, and we'll see what happens. It's only been two practices. But the defense with Rasmus now,
only the only power is a number one. All the way to that. Yeah. What are your first impressions of those guys now that your teammates with them? Yeah, it's fun to watch. I'm excited to learn from these guys over the season. And I think when we played against the Sabers last year, it was really, really tough games. So I'm really happy to be with them today. And they're on another level. I'd say it's really impressive. And hopefully I can learn a thing or two from them. Your words, how would you describe the way the Sabers want their defense into play? That's a good question. I think it's, for me right now, I'm still trying to learn the system, learn, see how they want us to play in the ozone, play in the diesel.
But honestly, I think we have a really good group. We're big, we're fast. And yeah, no, it's, you know, it just feels like when you see the guys in the lineup, like every game, you cannot, almost you have to win. And you want to win. And it's something excited, for sure. You bring it at your game, is that part of your game? Yeah, I think it's still something. Again, I don't feel like I've reached my top level in hockey. Last year was my first four year in the NHL. So I'm still getting better and better. And that's something I want to work on as well. What do you bring to the Sabers defense? I think I bring, honestly, like my game is simple.
I think when you hopefully the guys where I'm there, they can, you know, they know where the puck is going to go. They know what I'm going to do. I'm going to do simple, simple plays, hard plays. I think my defensive game is my main attribute. And yeah, I think I have a pretty good shot as well. So I want to kind of found this last year. And I want to keep on shooting on that whenever I have the chance. You've beaten a long eyes being a seventh round pick. And your journey to the NHLs are someone believed in you. Like, what was your big break that could kind of help you get here? That makes sense. Yeah, I think it's for sure something I'm proud of to have been drafted in seventh round and make it here. And it's something I've worked a lot on.
I think I had great opportunities in Chicago that were offered to me. And I just took him and made the best out of it. So, yeah, no, I think it's just, again, it's just confidence mostly for me. I think everyone had a different growing in hockey. Like, maybe I was a little bit later than others. But I feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be right now. Hey, our ride's almost here. Are you ready? Just grabbing my shoes. That's what you said 10 minutes ago.
