Ohio State beat Maryland 45-16, but what did the Buckeyes really show once we went back and watched the game again?

Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr break down 10 things that stood out on the rewatch, including Ohio State’s costly mental mistakes, the reshuffled offensive line, Bo Jackson and Ja'Kobi Jackson’s continued emergence, Jeremiah Smith’s ridiculous impact on the offense, concerns about protecting Julian Sayin, Qua Russaw and Eddrick Houston coming on along the defensive front, the latest with Beau Atkinson, Chris Henry Jr.’s growing role, and some encouraging developments on special teams.

The Buckeyes got away with some mistakes against Maryland. The question now is whether those issues get cleaned up before Ohio State heads into a much tougher stretch of the schedule.

You know when people try a new food and suddenly it's like, OK, hold on. I got a new favorite food. That's the reaction a lot of people are having when they first try Cupid Mayon. Yeah, it's the one with the red cap and the little baby on the bottle. You've probably seen it at the grocery store. And this mayo is different. Most mayonnaise uses whole eggs. Cupid only uses egg yolks, which gives it this rich umami flavor. It's smoother, deeper, almost buttery.

Once people try it, they start putting it on everything. Egg sandwiches, fries, burgers, chefs use it, restaurants use it, people who really care about flavor use it, put it on just about anything. Then you'll understand. Cupid, the original Japanese mayonnaise. I always appreciate when thoughtful and luxurious design can help change the way a space feels. That's why I love how the 48 inch panoramic display stretches across the entire dashboard in my Lincoln Navigator SUV. It helps make it easy to stay connected while giving the cabin an open, expansive feel. You're stopping us in the street going, I love Cupid. And if you're thinking, wait, what is Cupid? Do you not have the internet? It's the OG Japanese mayonnaise. The one with the red cap and the little baby on the bottle. Once you know what, you start seeing it everywhere. People ask what makes it different from basic mayo? Will the answer egg yolks? Cupid is made with egg yolks only, giving it this incredibly rich umami flavor that elevates everything. Burgers, fries, sandwiches, chicken, noodles.

Chefs use it, restaurants use it. People who really love food and flavor use it. Whatever you're eating, Cupid. So if you haven't tried Cupid yet, find the bottle with the red cap and see what everyone's talking about. You'll understand Cupid, the original Japanese mayonnaise. Hi, it's Marcus Allen, Pro Football Hall of Famer, NFL MVP, and Super Bowl Champion. I played football for a long time. One thing I've learned is nobody really knows what's going to happen next. Before the snap, you can study the defense, you can know the play, and you can see the opening. But eventually, you have to make a decision and go. For me, that was the fun of football. The moment between getting the ball and finding out whether you made the right read, I loved it. And it's why I understand what Underdog brings to sports fans. Because once you make your pick, you're not just watching anymore. Every snap matters, every yard matters, every decision matters. Everybody thinks they know what's coming next. Well, Underdog gives you somewhere to put that opinion into play. Pick them, money lines, totals, spreads, games, and more across your favorite sports.

So trust your read, make your call, and see what happens. Download Underdog and get in on the action today. Underdog, unleash your dog. Trading and false risk, including total loss on positions. But we're doing it differently this time. Every guy listening right now, you're contestant. No buzzers, no calling in. Just answer honestly to yourself. Here we go. You got a belly and a little chest that won't go away no matter what you try. Gast by the middle of the afternoon, no drive left in the tank. And lastly, you lack that confidence in mental edge. Fellowes, here's the thing. Those are classic signs that your testosterone's been sliding. And nothing drags it down faster than extra weight. The good news? Emerging research suggests that getting rid of it may actually be more effective than TRT. So why not take matters into your own hands? Well, Tony, unlike the last time we spoke, I am inside and warm and dry.

And so I am doing outstanding. How are you? Ironically, my feet are soaked. I told you not to put the kitty pool underneath your desk. You're like, but I want to. I like to relax. Anyway, we are here. We watched, we watched the Ohio State win over Maryland. You know, we can only see so much. I can only see so much from the press box. Tom watches this through a camera lens, like a snob there on the sidelines and in the end zone. So then we get a chance to go back and watch it. And you get to see more and you get to hit the little rewind button and see even more time. And then we take some notes and we talk about what we learned. I'll let you go first time. What's something that stood out to you in this game? Boy, you watch it and you think, I understand. I saw Ryan Day looking very animated on the sideline throughout the game. And then you go back and rewatch it and you see some of the stuff and then you sort

of see stuff in context as well. And it's like, oh, yeah. Oh, I see, I see where you're coming from there with the yelling and angry gesturing. Like I get it. That was a game where they made a bunch of really stupid mistakes and a lot of really stupid mental mistakes that you can get away with when you're playing Maryland. When you have a trip to Bloomington, Indiana on deck, you cannot get away with those next Saturday at noon. And I think that that Ryan Day is watching the entire game through that filter. And it also some of the stupid mistakes pro long that game prevented them from putting the backups in, prevented them from getting the starters out. You know, if something bad happens late in that game to one of your stars and they're only in there because you made a bunch of stupid mistakes early, that's something that's going, you know, that's potentially a season ender or season ruiner for you. That obviously didn't happen. But you know, if you're if you're the head coach, you're watching that had to just be so

irritating for so many different reasons. Well, I think right now we're just talking about penalties and things like that of which they were eight accepted. No high state committed. They were flagged for 11 penalties. Two, we're offsetting. One was declined. And the thing is, right day after the game, it's, you know, there were, you know, certainly he's not upset. But he's also like there were five new starters out there. However, penalties were committed by James Smith, Jalen McLean, Will Smith, their whack percent. Black and some Carson Hins. Black and sin again. So like this wasn't really about new starters. This was just veterans making silly mistakes where it also carried into the new starters in the silly minutes of things, stupid mistakes, bad mistakes, goes outside of the realm of penalties. It's lack of picking up blitzes, lack of protecting Julian Sain, which was not just in Isaiah, West problem like Jacobi Jackson, their projects and had one later on a third down that on the

defensive holding call as Julian Sainz scrambles out and gets like cut in half on a throw and there's a holding penalty, a defense holding penalty that gives them a first down like he's out in space. He's looking for some help and nobody gave him any help and he's getting hit like crazy. That's adding to some of the mistakes like adding to this result of some of these mistakes. So I never wrote to bird about that on Sunday, just pre-season's over now. And the rest of these games are going to be very serious in any kind of mistakes like any of these that we're talking about could cause you to get just go back and look at the Texas game and say, man, if this just one thing hadn't have happened or had happened, you'd walk out out of there with a win. You can begin to say those things or prepare for similar things the rest of the way out with the schedule. Well, and we are looking ahead two shows right now into the future. We rewatch the Indiana Nebraska game and you watch Nebraska just make these just just a handful of just really

backbreaking mistakes. And it's like if you just hadn't done that handful of really stupid things or just you know failed to make plays you should have made that's that's it. That's the difference between beating Indiana and not beating Indiana. And last year for Ohio State, beating Indiana versus not beating Indiana was the difference between having Miami on your side of the bracket and not having Miami on so you're side of the bracket. And if Indiana and Miami are on the other side of the bracket, then you only have to play at most one of them on your route to the national championship. So it's you know, Ohio State has plenty of real life examples that they can point to and you get this sense that not only how demonstrative Ryan Day was on the sideline, but also the fact that they don't have revenge games all that often because they don't lose all that off it. But when they do focus is generally not an issue. So you would assume that a lot of that stuff will get cleaned up this week. Can I mention the new offensive line? I thought

Jake Cooker-Wright guard and Gabe Van Cicolette-Wright tackle did a pretty good job at least in the run game. Early on in the past blocking, I think if I first drive, you saw Marilyn go with a twist and they handled it perfectly and that was good. And I think overall they did well in this one, not that they have to be the same group against Indiana, but it was encouraging to see. And then of course they're part of an offensive line that rushes for two-hour yards. So that's that's good to see. You saw Ian Moore have some struggles in the past blocking again, which it's really going to create a question that if Philip Daniels is back against Indiana and he plays well and Austin Searveld comes back whenever. And if Ian Moore doesn't clean up some things, are we going to see Austin Searveld back at left tackle? Yeah, that I think is a legitimate question because you looked at the offensive line and you went, well, they're definitely going to have issues today and they did, but it wasn't necessarily where you expected it to come from because

Ian Moore had a couple times, he got, he just got like flat out beat a couple times. One time it was around the edge by Zion Ely and we probably need to talk about Zion Ely a little later on in the show. But you know, he gets beat over the edge and Ely doesn't get seen down the first time, but then tracks him down and forces a fumble. That was the one that I think that they that cost them a drive. And then on the next possession, he gets beat again. It was a different Maryland Russia got beat inside and that was on the touchdown pass to Nate Roberts where you get you get hit a half second earlier that takes seven points off the board and that's a that's a problem. They there were times later in the game where it felt like they'd tried to give him some help. Like there was a great play for Jacobi Jackson where he came just kind of chip the defensive end on his way by and then caught a pass on the same play like that was that was I think you're going to have to do more of that because right now what you're seeing from Ian Moore is not what they need and you can eat it. Maryland had a good defensive line and I know Luke Buck, I'm recall the best one

they faced. I didn't think that's probably a little hyperbolic, but it was it was a good defensive one. This wasn't a bad defensive line, but you can't have plays like that where your quarterback has stuff coming from his blind side and you know that's Julian Sain has done an admirable job of keeping his eyes down field and not getting happy feet and not you know not panicking and not rushing throws, but you know at some point all those hits are going to add up on him and so you've got to you've got to get that figured out one way or another. You guys some uh let's see how about well let's talk a little bit about the running back because it was it this was a really solid game from the running backs and Maryland is not a great game and not a great rushing defense, but this was a really really good game from both Bojax and Angiacobi Jax and I felt like it there was you know there were a couple pass pro issues certainly, but man every time every time we do one of these rewatches I write down Jacobi Jax and runs really hard at just the leg churn is

just there all the time the pile keeps moving and you mentioned I'm watching the game through a camera lens so you know I see the pile coming towards me and it's like oh boy the offensive line must be really getting a bunch of push and then you look and it's like nope Jacobi Jax and it's just pushing two guys all by himself it's it was it continues to be impressive and it's it it's something that if Ohio State can you know if if other teams are going to drop a couple safeties and they're gonna play you know you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna say okay well Jeremiah Smith's not gonna beat us then it feels like Ohio State can kind of shrug and go all right and they've been able to run the ball consistently enough that you know it's gonna get harder as you go along you're gonna face better defense as now in the back half of the season then you did in the front half of the season but it feels like they should be able to run the ball at least somewhat at least enough against most teams and that that gives you a real good basis the run game the run game travels with you defense travels the run game travels you know we'll we'll we'll talk about

the defense defense you know well I don't I think they have less defense to travel than they do run game but you know it's the run game I think they should feel pretty good about especially with as makeshift as the offense of line was yeah they're now fifth in the big 10 in rushing yards per game against big 10 opponents 172.7 yards rushing per game which is yeah and it's just a couple of opponents but it's not a number that Ohio State has hit routinely over the years and the the bow jacks when I think fourth and one where it looks like he stopped and looks like he's the stopped again like he's initially stopped for a loss of one then he's initially stopped at the Lannish Girmic and then he just keeps churning almost parallel to the ground and picks up a fourth oh picks up the first down just good see those guys and then I thought they did a good job of showing the on the 25 yard touchdown run by bow jacks and the effect that Jeremiah Smith has when before before the ball is even snapped the safety is running over towards Jeremiah Smith's side leaving

nobody in the middle and and I think that's I guess one of the reasons why I think the the running game is still eventually going to open up and and again even if it's just it can't open up with big hits because safeties are playing back on Jeremiah again 180 yards rushing is going to get the job done about against just about anybody so just keep that going and you know things good things are going to happen um it's time I do need to I think a new to a new to apologize after the game regarding the first touchdown to Jeremiah that um you know I said after the game that you know juxtap it was a the first read was maybe two Brockwood and I think I was thinking no I think that was actually designed for Jeremiah because they're a couple of years like a picker to along the way and then you watch it and uh julian saying like the first look he's given is towards Brock Boyd but he comes off of him so quick and then he looks over the second read is to the left and

maybe the tie dander something and he's covered and then he comes back the third read it looks like is Jeremiah and he dips it off it's kind of the outlet guy but if he would have stayed with Brock Boyd a little bit longer and not much longer a little bit longer he would have you know he would have been able to hit him but of course the still ends up in a touchdown and everything is great but I did want to admit that I was probably re re re re anyway I can edit this out of the show yeah and that ended up being a great I mean they were they were several like there goes Jeremiah spith again there goes that man plays that was one where it's just a drag route across the the formation and he catches it about five yards down field. But balls behind him, he just sort of like effortlessly spins to catches, lands right and stride and then we're outruns all the angles for the defenders. It was just kind of the complete Jeremiah Smith package where it's just awareness, hands, body control, speed, just the whole thing all in one play and it was, they didn't even

comment on it on the broadcast about how what an incredible casual. They commented on the one later where he had no one hand or behind, you know, behind his back where he basically looked like the jump man. They commented on that one. This one, it was just kind of, you know, they're commenting on his speed and he's out running the angles and all these defenders and he was like, oh, by the way, he also spun in mid air and caught that behind him. And then the other one later in the game, he had that was the other one that he had. There was a great block from Nate Roberts. I did talk about that on the broadcast, but again, he's just outrunning angles on guys. It's like, oh, that guy's going to get him. No, he's not like, and they were both, they were both like short passes that looked like it was okay. It's second and 10 and you're going to pick up six yards on this and just get it to third and manageable and then nope, he's just going to outrun people and score a touchdown. Speaking of people who can outrun people and score a touchdown, we have two sides of the same coin and that is legend Bay and bow at consent. Legend Bay is the good side of the coin where legend Bay, they have wanted to play him.

They want to get him out there and they have just felt like, well, he's not doing the stuff that he needs to do in order to get out there. So the fact that he was out there returning kicks in the first half, the fact that he was had a good kick return, didn't make bad decisions. He had a good kick return out, I think, to the 28 or so and had another one where he was a reasonable time for him to return the ball. But then also they're up by 14 in the second quarter, they're struggling a little bit, they're frustrated. They very obviously need to have people that they can trust in there because they're in the red zone and then they run like a little jet sweep kind of thing to legend Bay and just the fact that he's out there at a time when they know they are not going to screw around. This is not a the fourth quarter and it's a 40 point game. This is a Europe by 14 late in the second quarter, you've been dominating the game but the score has been close. You have to score a touchdown on that possession to give yourself the breathing room that you want to have and they had him out there. That feels like that felt like, okay, legend Bay is out of the dog house.

Legend Bay is now kind of back in the circle of trust. That can be a fragile thing. Don't do anything to screwed up but it felt to me like we might be close to actually seeing legend Bay get the reps and the role that we kept getting told he was going to have before the season. I think that's a good thing. Oh, Adkinson. Oh boy, who buddy? Those were the first, I had not put together in my mind that that roughing the pass or call. I mean, first I didn't know how bad it was until I went back and watched the game. I had not put together that that was a fourth down play or that third down play that they had gotten the stop. They were coming off the field and that extended the drive and that was the touchdown drive. That was the first of four, I think, defensive penalties on that drive. But if you don't hit the quarterback, I mean like three steps too late, you're off the field. That was a seven point penalty. We didn't solely cause the touchdown but it extended the drive and gave Maryland an opportunity to score.

And then another one at the end of the game. It was just like those are the things where if it's a true freshman, you go, oh, oh, freshman, you know, you're the games going a little too fast, you're a little too amped up. But Adkinson's a senior. You can't be doing that stuff. And you know, I make the case to me, Tony, that the production merits the, you know, we having him having him out there in big moments moving forward. I don't know that I see. No, and I didn't see the first penalty because when I, you know, it happens and you're like, we'll happen, you go up and look at the TV copy or whatever. And it's like the first few you show, you see, all you see is Boatkiss and just running over the right tackle and just destroying him. And it's like, oh, maybe I just thought it was all just one thing. Like he just kept basically knocked everybody over with, you know, with one throw of the

bowling ball. But then you watch the replay, replay of it. And it's like, no, that was a legit like three steps to hit him and I hit him hard. And then yeah, there's no, there's no production that is worth that. And so especially not like next week against teams and moving forward. Like you, one is bad enough and one is more than enough, especially one like that. So yeah, I don't know that there's any kind of production that is worth that or that you're like, well, I know that this is a possibility, but still we need them out there because of this. And I think what you're getting out of Quay Rousseau and getting out of Jackson is a lot. Zion Grady's not hurting you per se. And you know, it's maybe not a great thing that the best thing you can say about somebody in terms of well, they should be playing as well. At least they're not hurting you. At least they're not getting called for 15 year penalties and keeping drives alive.

Right. But at least he's not hurting you. And Quay Rousseau is, you know, I'll let you talk about Quay Rousseau next, but he took fully, he took a step forward. I will tell you one of the benefits as I'm down on the sidelines, one of the benefits is I see stuff and hear stuff that is not stuff that necessarily shows up on TV. And there was a play where I was kind of on the sideline and not on the not behind the end zone on one place where Canyada Jackson was getting a really good pass rush and and Malik Washington threw it right before. And you could tell Canyada Jackson was really frustrated about the fact that he was like one step away from getting a really big sack or you know, get another strip sack like he did at Iowa. But he was frustrated, but he didn't hit the quarterback. He, you know, that's your veteran. You understand you pull up. You don't hit the guy. You, you, you're frustrated. If you're not going to fight another day, you'll get him the next time. Like and he had, you know, Canyada Jackson, I think had a pretty good game overall. That's what a veteran guy do.

That's, that's what veterans know that they need to do. And, you know, that the juxtaposition there was not, not flattering there, but, you know, do go ahead. You can take Quay Rousseau because this, this feels like one that has been coming on for a couple of weeks now. And you can take, I'll tell you what, I'll even let you take Quay Rousseau and enter using it. Well, I just want to last thing to go, I can't, like, I understand he wants to make plays. He's frustrated. He thinks he should be playing more. And so you're, you know, you're trying to make something happen, but you still, you've got to be under control better than that. Quay Rousseau is out there making plays up and down the sideline. Like, you're seeing the athleticism two weeks in a row now. And I think he's, this is clearly the most comfortable he's been as an Iowa state bucket. He's been going over playing a new defense where, you know, we expected I'm going to be a pass rusher and I'm going to be a, you know, like a stand up guy. And now you're doing a really good job against the run. And you are setting an edge when you need to and you're getting after things.

And so that's very good to see. Andrew Houston continues to play with energy. I think he's calling out members of the public now. And I heard some talk about after the game. I haven't watched, gone back and watch it all of it. But hey, if you're going to, if you're going to talk it back it up, go ahead, do whatever you got to do there. And really, one of my notes here is I like, I like the defensive tackle duos that they've got going on with Edward and John Walker and Jason Moore and James Smith. And I like the way they use them and then you know, Will Smith gets in there and they do some mixing and matching. So right now, I, you know, especially that first group with Andrew Houston and John Walker. But also Jason Moore, he had a nice play in this one. I like what they're getting out of those guys right now. And if they, if this is who they are, then I, you know, I think, I think there's been like better, better Iowa state teams were defensive tackles, if you will.

Well, it's, it's defensive tackles that are pretty good at the very least. I think, I think you can go from, you know, officially a concern to not bad, to pretty good and we'll see what it looks like against better opposition in the coming weeks. If they do, you know, if they can stack up the run against Indiana, the way they did against Iowa and Maryland, all right, if they can make get pressure in the backfield, the way they did against those teams. All right, Edgar Houston is, you know, this is the Edgar Houston that we sort of anticipated over the summer. And it's a quite rehearsal that we anticipated over the summer. And you got just far enough into the season that you kind of started thinking, did we misread the situation? Did we, did we overestimate how good these guys could be this year? And it's like, right, when you, you got, you know, four games in the season, it's like, well, you're a third of the way in the season. You really haven't seen anything from these guys. Maybe it's just not going to happen. That's when it feels like the light kind of came on. You know, we'll, we'll see how much it holds up against better opposition, but it feels

real to me. And, you know, this is not, Kate and McDonald, this is not, you know, some of the green past rushers of the past, but it's not bad. And not bad is, you know, not bad is pretty good. My question is, is this Kwe Rousseau getting more comfortable in a Matt Patricia defense and what they want him to do? Or is this Matt Patricia figuring out what does Kwe Rousseau do well, put him in those positions, what does Edward Houston do well when he's healthy this year, put him in those positions? It has to be off both of those, both of those things where it's not just one person acquiescing to the other. It's both. And then that's how, that's how marriages work. And really football and scheme are all just a bunch of marriages. And there's got to be some give and take and you got to clean. You know that's, but I think it's, it's both of those things where you're figuring out

what you do well and so are the coaches and then there's communication. But what do you like, what works for you? What are you uncomfortable with? What are you seeing? Because if they, if they say like, well, I just, I don't, it doesn't work for me. Like quarterbacks have routes that they, they love and routes it and pass concepts that they don't. It would make sense. And if you have the same thing for other players as well, or it's just like, I have my favorites and I have things that I don't like. The, the curve ball, you know, I hit fast pitch very much, you know, like that, that sort of thing. But, you know, so this defensive tackle group, I would, is it better than Tommy Togia and Haskell Garrett and Jerome Cage? Is it better than Tron Vincent, Haskell Garrett and Jerome Cage? Certainly that one. Maybe the 2020 with Tommy Togia. And so, you know, you can go a long way with pretty good and I don't want to jump the gun on the defensive tackles yet because we've also talked about how, where are they?

They're doing nothing. And so good to see them doing something and maybe they can maintain that. It's fun watching Jaylen McLean tackle. He just comes flying in and he's fun to watch and he's a solid tackler. It would help them maybe if he got there a yard earlier. And, and not that this is a bad thing because, you know, he's coming from way far back and people are like, well, Caleb Downs would have, well, Caleb Downs is coming from like five yards, six yards closer than Jaylen McLean would from way back there. So, he's fun to watch. He's good. He's solid. Can't complain there. Anything else in defense? I thought Earl Little did a good job in coverage. And he's pulled, you know, he's generally pulled out on a third and longs and he stayed out there this week because Lee where Roker was hurt, but I thought he had some good moments. One last thing on the offense, Julian saying it's taken a beating and even on that pick six, he hit his elbow on helmet. You can't keep letting this happen.

And not that they're like, brand days like, well, I don't care. You know, but like eventually there's going to be a bumper bruise that has to be addressed seriously. Yeah, that is not a sustainable thing. And he's taking more hits already because he's running the ball more, which that is probably something he's going to have to do. So you've got to protect him when he's in the pocket and they just, they just haven't done that. And so that's, that has to get addressed. I've got one more on offense and then one on special teams on offense, Tony. If I told you that I was going to take a guy who used to be the number two player at his position in his recruiting class and I'm going to comp him to a guy who is the number 80 player in his recruiting class at his position, you would say that is mean. Why would you do that? So I want you to keep that energy when I tell you Chris Henry Jr. Charlie Becker vibes question mark watching the Ohio State game, watching the Indiana game back to back. To see Chris Henry Jr. go down the field, he's kind of that long, lanky tall guy who can

go up and get the ball tracks the ball well in the air. He's not Charlie Becker yet, but you can kind of see it now. So much of this boils down to can the offensive line and associated entities like running backs and fullbacks and tight ends, protect Julian saying long enough for him to get the ball out there and let, let Chris Henry Jr. run under the ball. He will see, but you just you watched, he only had one catch, but that one catch, it was not an easy catch. It was raining pretty hard at that point. And it was, it was a really nice play, good body control way to track the football. It was a really nice catch. And it's one of those things where you see him, they trust him to be out there and are in these moments because he does all the other stuff. So they feel like he's okay to be out there. He's not Jeremiah Smith because no one's Jeremiah Smith. This is like already sort of fast track for a true freshman wide receiver to be out there and making that kind of a play in the second week of October.

That's ahead of where Chris Lave was or Jameson Williams was or, you know, Jackson Smith and Jim was a little bit of a weird, weird year, but probably ahead of where he was, you know, there's a lot of guys who were not doing that. Marvin Harrison wasn't necessarily doing that at this point. So, you know, I think Chris Henry Jr. is giving you something to dream on a little bit. Well, and the fact that he's got one on one coverage, throw it up to him. Yeah. It's not something they necessarily did to other freshman that you're mentioning. And I know you're comparing him to Charlie Bacchard. I won't remind you. Last year when Charlie Bacchard exploded, he was a second year player and he only averaged 20 yards of catch. Whereas right now, Chris Henry Jr. for his entire career, 37.8 yards per reception. So that's even better than Devon Smith in 2014. I'll have you know what he averaged like 23 yards of catch. So at this rate, he only needs a handful more catches for a thousand yards to become the second thousand yard receiver in Ohio State history as a true freshman.

Like, two catches a game. That's what we're talking about for this to happen. And you're going to doubt him. If these trends continue as they say, yeah, but it's speaking of throwing things up into single coverage, Julian St. throwing the ball into triple coverage to Jeremiah Smith. And the most the most generous drop in the history of drops was fortuitous for Ohio State. I do want to mention since special teams has been catching strays and they've not even necessarily strays like direct shots for much of the year. I do want to mention kick returns with legend Bay looked solid, but punt returns with Philip Bell made a nice play like he's catching the ball, which is good. He's not letting the ball hit the ground and roll forever. That's good. But also it feels like he's turning into a little bit of a weapon for them where he can, you know, if you catch it and you pick up eight yards, great. That's phenomenal. If you catch it and you can pick up what do you have 32 or 29 or something, whatever, he basically cut whatever that drive was going to be in half where he was like a 30 yard

return and he returned it to like the 35 yard line, something like that. So instead of having to start it, you're on 35, you're starting at the other team 35. And that makes a real big difference, especially in a game like the upcoming one. Can you can you make a play like that against Indiana where you don't even need to run it back for touchdown like Caleb Downston a few years ago, just pick up 20 yards and shorten the drive, get yourself closer to field goal range, whatever it is. That that is an area that is just sort of it feels like it's been taken for branded for a long time. Now maybe they've got someone back there on a full time basis that they feel can be a really weapon. And you mentioned he saved some yards by running up and catching at least one of those and he's showed really good hands. I'm not an ideal day to be doing that stuff and he was still aggressive about it. A couple of last things for me, the second touchdown to Jeremiah Smith should have been a rush. That was a lateral, but also they generally get there wrong all the time and why not credit the passing that you don't need to you don't need to pile on Jeremiah's rushing

stats. So good job by the Ohio State and the statistical department, but to me that looked like a lateral. Shout out to Jake Cook playing free positions in this game and doing it very well. And also you know what shout out to Mike Loxley who the entire game looked like he knows that this is the end. He wants to best for his players. He's not trying, he's not all fired up about anything. He's just like, you know, let's let's go down with a little bit of dignity. And he wins. Ioneli gets a penalty and he's talking to him and it's like he's still trying to say him straight even though he knows he's on his way out. Yeah, and I just googled really quickly. He has not been fired yet. He did. I need to post this early then. Yeah, don't doubt it all, but yeah, if it hasn't happened yet and he's, he's probably safe for another week, but yeah, he did have a Mike Loxley understood the assignment at the end of the game when he's just going to run the ball and getting out of there. That was that was good. One, one other thing that worth worth mentioning very quickly, Ohio State running backs hanging

on the football. They had a lot of rushes and that was not a great day to be out there. They had 48 rushes, 41 by running backs. No one put the ball on the ground. So that's worth just sort of worth noting that they hung on the ball in adverse conditions, which there was a lot of slipping and all that kind of stuff. You could tell it was not a great day out there, but they did hang on the football, which was good. Two last things for me, I promise. The Chris, the Chris Henry Jr. catch, he gets up and he spikes the ball and then he's kind of selling bread and then he goes and gets the ball for the ref. I thought that was just a little, it was smart. It had happened right in front of me and I was like, oh, that was a smart play for a freshman. Good job. Good job there. There's still a couple of linebacker issues getting caught up and some stuff. I've not paid Pierce out of good game. They miss Christian Allegra a little bit, but good to see. Since here Johnson can tackle that he's going to be pretty good down the road and credit

to see me caught well with the good tackle as well in a tough situation. Those are the, that's it. I think that's enough for Maryland game rewatch. We've got, we're moving on now.
