You know how when your feet are wet. Like nothing feels good. That full game was the feet are wet of football games both literally and figuratively. You just need the rest of your body just needs to get soaked so it doesn't even matter. Yeah, I kind of tried that. Yeah, like the Illinois game a few years with 2017. This I thought at one point in the second half, you know what you game this reminds me of the Illinois game in 2017 in not just the weather kind of way either. I think Brian Day talked about the sloppiness of the game and you can understand five new starters. Hatch work offensive line like an emergency break glass kind of thing where they're still trying to figure out who who are going to be the guys that go with. So you can understand some things not looking great. But I also think this is an amazing win for Ryan Day in terms of. They have so much to work on.

Oh, yeah. Yeah, you've got to blow out winter, whatever. That's great. There's some stuff there, but nobody can feel great about this. Just five targets for Jeremy Smith four catches and they had to scheme some stuff and just throw some stuff underneath to him to get him to ball. So that's something that they're going to have to continue to work on because it's five targets against Indiana. I don't think it's going to get it done. No, no, I don't think so. Jeremy had such a weird game because he had a couple plays, which was just like a little short throw and then he ran forever and sport a touchdown. And someone said to me, yeah, he's only so many yards away from 100 and I said, that can't be right. He's got to have like 150 or so. It was. You wanted to see them. You just other guys. Yeah, and they did. And they ran the ball well. And so, you know, you, you, you look at the, you know, you look at the stats here and yards per Russian fine, but they were really running the clock. So I need to go back and look at the first half rations versus the like fourth quarter rushes 11.5 yards per pass attempts.

You know, you do that. You're going to win a lot of football. Yeah, and it knows working a silly downfield yards and other than the Chris Henry junior one where you made a great adjustment. But it felt like they were having trouble dialing up the Jeremiah Smith play. So then it's like, okay, well, kind of like the Oregon, the Oregon Rose Bowl, where I've gone to him behind the liner skirmish almost on a drag route. And we'll have to go back and watch this because I'm going to disagree with Jack right here. Make it noted that the first touchdown to Jeremiah Brockwood was wide open on the post. I don't know that he was a Brockwood was actually the first three like Chuck says we'll go back to the little discuss it later on, but it did look like Julia was looking at him. Yeah, and he there was no safety help. It was just one safety that was on him and Brock had him beat. However, also on that side, there were some picks kind of being run. Okay. That would keep the defender away from Jeremiah's side of things.

I don't know what to go. I may be wrong. I'm okay being wrong. It would be it would be a refreshing feeling. Frankly, but then to watch Jeremiah hit the corner and then just on both of this. Neither one of those should have touched down. Right. Yeah. And you just you just watch me like, no, you're trying to do the math in your head. Like nobody they're not going to get to him. And that's he's amazing to watch. And the thing is this is an underwhelming performance by Jeremiah Smith for catches 93 yards to touchdowns. Three of those catches are highlights. Right. Yeah. This is this is one that you have to understand that like around the highest minute narrative around this is what no one watching. Sorry. Like it's a big 10 network game. Ohio State's going to win by a million. Everyone knows that there are much better games on. So outside of Ohio State fans and both Maryland fans, no one's watching this game. So if you're a highest man voter in Texas, Florida, Minnesota, wherever. All you're going to see of this game is you're going to turn on college football final and you're going to see Jeremiah Smith has a long catch and run for touchdown.

And maybe Jeremiah Smith has another long catch and run for a touchdown. And then they put up the graphic for the finals war and that's it. Don't forget the one handed catch behind them. That was incredible. That was unfortunately on the other side of the field with a referee between the and him. So I did not get that one. But yeah, it was. You know, this is this was the Troy Smith and state 2006 game. Where was the game great on the whole now was the game statistically dominant on the whole. No, but what do you see? What do you see when you when you watch college football final? You see Troy Smith running around. You know, throwing back across field, finding a wide open receiver, touchdown, Bing, Bing, Bing, and that was like a highest moment. Now, whatever you do to Maryland, it's not a highest moment, anything more than what you didn't get. It was a highest moment. But for the purposes of highest man narrative this week, check the box. Were you surprised at how long he was out there in the game? Because it felt like it felt like they were playing him longer than they might have otherwise.

And I even know if that was a function of Ryan Day being a little bit frustrated with the team and they, in fact, they did put it in a way, which is where I get the 2017 Illinois comp. Yeah, or was that well, we'd really like to get your boy one more touchdown. I think if they wanted to, they could have because I mean, they're going to base the lambs for touchdown on the other. And I think that was a little Jackson had two touchdowns. So I think the, the pick six happens with 512 to go in the third quarter. Yeah, and it makes it a two touchdown game. Yeah. So it's not, it's not more than a three touchdown game until that final touchdown five minutes. But it was it was a three touchdown game and they had the ball. That was the point where I thought, OK, this is where he typically was. We also know Ryan Day and yeah, some coaches are really like, I would prefer four touchdowns before I start to, you know, to, to back off. By the way, Troy Smith 2006 12 of 22 for 115 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Yeah, and they gave us. We remember the scramble and trail for Brian or biscuit. They're going to remember whatever three, there's three, three choices from this game to pick. And so anyone is going to stand out. Yeah, and this is, you know, I'm looking at the, at the drive track here for Ohio State. And this is, this is really kind of the story of the game where they, you know, the first drive and get anything, but touchdown had a fumble. And then the touchdown touchdown field goal touchdown upon the pick six touchdown touchdown. It really, this was a game where you look at the score. And then you look at the stats and it's those are telling two very different stories Ohio State, the stat sheet tells you Ohio State is dominating this game to the point that they should be up by 40 points. And it's like, how the heck did that happen? It's Maryland. That's.

And it was like, Ohio State was in control, but they've never really pulled away. And there was never any doubt. They were really concerned. But they weren't playing well enough to pull away enough to get as many backups in there as they like. And for most of the game, along the long drive of the game for a high stage of time, the possession was that first drive where they put it. Because they were scoring quicker and then, you know, what the first drive out of the, on a half is for them doesn't go anywhere basically. But overall, this is, this is a game where the running game got better. Maryland wore down. What credit to running game for that? Yeah. You know, so that's part of their job. So Jackson has an explosive with a 25 yarder. That was good to see, but also just the consistency with which he ran any ran hard to cover Jackson's always going to run hard, but they rest for over 200 yards against the big tent opponent now. Yeah, maybe the lowest run of the big tent opponents. It may be. Well, I mean, there's the organ.

That's a whole separate conversation. Yes. I feel like we need to at some point have a conversation about expectations with this year and understanding what reality is in college football right now. It's just you look at every, you know, all the teams who would you rather be and you can go through and say, oh boy, you'd rather be this and you'd rather be that. The three teams who are at the top of the nation in terms of spending Texas, Oregon, Ohio State of the ones who were, you know, in that athletic article. It's Texas lost to Oklahoma, who is not very good. Right. Oregon lost to UCLA, who is up and coming, certainly, but that's your bond and certainly not spending at Oregon's level and it was in Eugene and. And then you have to lose that.

You lost Oregon, UCLA won with their backup quarterback in for a large portion of the second half really Nico got knocked out. Wow. Real ago, that's wow. So you've missed a lot out there watching Ohio State football. Yeah, yeah, goodness. Yeah, I that is crazy. Yeah, I can't believe that. Yeah, that's, but that's college football in 2026. That's that's what it is. And so then you get the sort of the, you know, everyone has this like, well, Ohio State should be doing better than this. It's like, well, I mean, based on what it's it's not it's not as easy to do as you might, you know, you might think. So we are. So where do we want to start? Well, I guess, well, the time we've been going for a while. Yes, yes, but this is sure we were winding up. Let's start with the offensive line. Okay. Because without getting to into the Austin, Sierra Vogue situation, there's all kinds of speculation in chat and there's some people are definitive on what it is.

Ryan Day did say there's a test, you know, so there's something there, right? He's day to day, which is no like we all are right. So the good news in that whole situation, I'm not going to I'm not expecting Austin Sierra Vogue to go next week. Phil, Daniels should be back right. I said he's going to have a full week. He was close to going today. So you lose. We'll see how long Austin Sierra Vogue is out for what he's dealing with. But you're at least getting an experience right tackle back. You ain't got one yet. No, no, no, you know, game band cycle credits him for being put in a terrible situation for a, for alignment. But at least you're dealing with Maryland instead of Indiana or somebody like that. But Maryland's defensive line. The offensive line was telling us this week that that's the best they've seen this year. So some of that looked legit.

The Zion elite, it's your freshman is a heck of a player. But if you can get Phil, Daniels back, like you don't want to lose your best offensive lineman and they did repost in survival and in a show. Jake Cook continues to show me something and now I think he's better. I think the offense is better when he's playing tight end. Yeah, because they miss him as that six point. They miss him as the bison guy. But then he also came in and was still wearing a 76 years and when he was in the backfield and leading a following the way for a touchdown. But he continues to be impressive. So maybe game band cycle, I write guard, Philip Daniels at right tack all of something that we haven't talked about. You know, we're doing all of these different projections, but it always involved us in the sea of old because right why wouldn't it? Right. Exactly. Yeah. And the good news is that they have other potential solutions that are already kind of in stress test. We haven't seen the game band cycle. Phil, Daniels right side of the offensive line and Phil Daniels is not back yet. I will, I will know they have.

Phil Daniels has seemed like he was on the cusp of being back for several weeks now and is still not back. So it'll think you can rely on that. And if you don't have them back next week. Yeah, at that point that becomes a real concern because then your, you know, then is it gave them sickle and Jake Koch again next week in Indiana that you know, I know they said all the right things about Maryland being the best defensive line they faced. So far so far. Yes. It's getting a little tougher next week. That's going to be a much more challenging game that's going to be much more challenge defense. I'm I'm guaranteed this. If you ask the same offensive line who said this last week is Indiana the best defensive line you're going to face this so far this season they're not going to say no still Maryland. Right. No, absolutely not. But the line has been is really pretty banged up. Yes, you've got to look Daniels. Yes, you got off the server. There were a lot of people that left that one point and then came back in and then was back out at one point. But yeah, there's a lot of guys on this line who are not 100% sure Ian Moore and Carson has been really 100% either.

No one is the more it's got the elbow thing because look what government. Yeah, so you that's not what you want when you're going on the road. I'm going to flag this in advance young offensive lineman going on the road. Yeah, what's going to be a loud hostile environment. We saw a couple of fall starts from gay vans like guard last week. If you're at tackle your further away and also you're trying to not get beat on an hitch rush. Watch watch this space that maybe that maybe something that's a concern. Yeah, that's why I think it's it's very, very big and very important to get filip Daniels back. Yeah, they expect him to be practicing tomorrow and their lighter practice, but then getting going because man, if you if you don't have him, then that's don't expect a ton of yards next week again. Yeah, frankly, maybe don't expect a ton of yards anyway against the right terms of the running game, but yeah, then Indiana just Indiana just played a 20 to 17 game against Nebraska.

I mean, Nebraska obviously blew a couple opportunities to put up more than that, but that's it's not 1310, but it's you can see it from here. And what we've seen from Indiana and big to play has been pretty man, you know, and so for our state plays a B plus game. That's one that's going to cause Indiana play a lesser game. I am interested to go. I say it's favorite in that one against Indiana with two points, three points, probably. Yeah, I would say I would say very small favorite. I think very small favorite, although are you are you trying to adjust for the public and does the public look at Indiana and go Indiana is secretly bad or do they look at it? I think because I think but you don't necessarily adjust the lines for the public because the the smart money right tends to balance out the you know, this is this is the Michigan Oklahoma thing where 90 something

percent of the public money was on Michigan and yet the line never moved. Yeah, super Jennifer David. Hello David. Thank you for watching. Has anyone besides Notre Dame asterisk and dominant this season the asterisk is doing heavy lifting given their schedule is weaker than Michigan strength program. They were they. They're trying the hardest. I tell you what he did. Nobody was walking into, but Notre Dame put a weapon on Stanford, which you should do. Yeah. There's their schedules at any like Indiana's schedule is worse and from what I've not watched really any Notre Dame so far this year because there's been no reason to. Yeah, exactly so. Probably when they play Boston College, well, they're going to be why you to be what you and Provo next week. That's that is a call me call me then because their schedule today is Wisconsin and the neutral site. Michigan State at Purdue at North Carolina and Stanford that is that is a murderers row of absolute disaster programs right now and you know, down to my job to get into part of the ACC get that ACC schedule.

Oh, no, when it's not all that talk they do play Miami this year. They do they play BYU. They're happy. Why you and Miami's their schedule. Yes, yeah, they play at BYU. It's got a week off. They play Navy in Foxboro and then they play Miami at home. That's the same weekend that will have they plays. So I have to play Oregon and then after that it's Boston College at home, SMU at home at Syracuse and and so yeah, they've got it's a two game schedule. And if they go one one against that two game schedule, they're probably comfortably in so. If they go on to it's if they go on to I think you're going to have a whole lot of what's your best win. Because every pre-loss SEC team and any three lost big 10 team is most likely going to have better with. 9 in 3 hypothetical 9 in 3 Ohio State that has lost to Texas lost to Indiana and lost to Oregon. Still has a road win at Iowa, which is better than anything that Notre Dame would have.

Still has a home win over Michigan, which is I mean, they'll see how we'll see how that goes. Yeah, but still has a home win over Northwestern, which is probably a ranked win. When it gets the brass win against Nebraska. So that's three wins that are probably as good or better than anything Notre Dame would have because they would be leading on SMU at home. And that's a team from Texas on November 21st in Indiana. So there's a little bit of an asterisk there speaking of asterisks. We got another super chat we're going to get to Fort Wayne Buck I says I'm sure I'll be in the minority, but I thought that was a gutsy performance from saying today not perfect by any means, but guts he given the circumstances. I saw growth today given the chaos. And this is two weeks ago he's been getting hit a lot. Yeah. He is a West was in for one play. And it was the play that was the pick six because not just because. Yeah, I say West didn't pick up the the blitz on the outside, but that sure. Well, I guess you could say this because because because because because because of the wonderful blocker, he wasn't on that one and sang a hit and a great catch by the defender.

That was a surprising catch and you know, he took off with it, but you've fries a West you get one shot and you give up a shot and you're done now. Right. And this is this is a running back room right now where you got the hierarchy of the top two and if you want to try to get into that, like they tried to work as a West in there, you know, they're still playing and that was the one play he had. I don't know that next week at Indiana, I wouldn't be shocked if you don't see him at all because the one time they put him out there, something bad happened and you can't afford that Indiana. Right, if they don't trust you to play against Maryland, they do not, you know, this is this is the if you don't, if you don't like me at my Maryland, I can't have me at my Indiana like that's if they don't trust you to play against Maryland. Yeah, on the road against Indiana. I think sex against Indiana would be we've we've we have seen games swing on a six. Yeah, that that to me.

If you're a West you're in a spot right now where you have to make the most of your opportunities because you're not going to get that many opportunities because at this point, both Jackson and Jacobi Jackson have clearly separated. Both of those guys were once again very good today and I you know, I don't have any clue how they were in past pro that is not what I can see from where I am on the field, but those two guys in terms of running the ball. You saw the same leg drive, you saw the piles moving it's all the stuff that they have asked the running backs to those true guys are doing it right now. So if you are trying to craft that rotation and show I belong here too, you've got to do the same thing and he wasn't even out there with a chance to do that. Now and now if legend is back then there go more carries Julian saying is running the ball. So there's no room for right now for a third running back that isn't legend back. Yeah, so that's that's a top spot for Isaiah West to be it to me and we do have one more super chance.

Okay, from earlier. Okay, third of somebody Mike Ferguson says which would be a better rival for trophy with Maryland is steel chair a wooden crab cake or a golden-held flag. Well, Maryland does have an interesting state flag. They you incorporate the two state flags and in the LF like that. Wait too many penalties you would expect that from Maryland. They always have to discipline issues and it felt like you're watching a little bit like a Louisville or somebody words like. Why are you committing so many penalties? This is you know, why do you always do this? I don't know. I mean the turtle is right there like some sort of a home state believe it done already has a turtle. The party has a turtle trophy. Yeah, I think maybe a high station only have turtle trophies. If it's me, it's got it involved all day in some way. I don't like all day. It's just when you could just tell you just like, oh gosh enough with the old bay. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. I don't know. Is there really anything interesting about Maryland? There's just so much interesting things about Ohio.

The movie wedding crashers taught me it's crab cakes and football and I really am kind of doubting the second one after last few years. So Mike just be crab cakes. All right, so we talked a little bit about the brushes talked a little bit about the receivers. The defense today, I think the defense was perfectly fine. Like it was it was you look at seven to your 16 points. I would like a detailed explanation to show your work for my coxley on why were you going for two down. It's 15 points. If you go for one, then you're down 14 points. So. Dan Landon, Rob, we'll get back to that. Dan landing. Do you know how they lost? Well, they lost my two. Did he did he do something stupid? Well, they're first touched on the one for two. They didn't get it. Yeah, sure. So then so then they had to chase later on. If they just kicked that to points each time they would have gone to overtime. Well, anyway, that's Dan landing for you. And he's so smart and he's so great. And he does love to go for two.

But yeah, the going for two. I don't I don't agree with that. Well, if we get it, then we get it again, then we can go for the win. Well, like Chip Kelly did that at one point. One step at a time. Feels like that's like that was kind of a quirky thing that was not necessarily something that the rest of the world is also doing because it was such a great idea. It was kind of they would do it and they'd be up eight seven and ever where to go. Oh boy. Yeah, no. What I will say about the defense. The first two drives when you go back and rewatch this, you'll see each of those third downs that failed. Well, I think it's very close to giving up a big play. Oh really? It's just Malik Washington couldn't hit them. Uh huh. So that is something that a better quarterback is that Josh Hoover perhaps. Like there were some scheme up things that didn't hit. Well, I see it does a good job of kind of seeing that after, you know, as it's happening and fixing it down the road in the same game. Yeah. Because we saw Iowa having some success in the first half, then Ohio State shuts that down the desk, whether it's just going from man to the zone or whatever.

But there were some some leverage stuff that Malik Washington just couldn't hit him. Some receivers and so it's. It was not a great performance, but then you look and it's 146 total yards. Right. And the drives from Maryland all helped bio-hioskate. And one of those touchdown drives was four penalties on the Ohio State defense. So another one was a pick six. Another one was another turnover. So Ohio State basically helped in all 16 of those points because Maryland couldn't do it on their own because it's weren't accurate. Accord enough throwing them all. Well, you look at Maryland's drive chart here and they have the set the 11 play 75 yard touchdown drive. Great. Congratulations. The longest drive other than that was 22 yards by place 22 yards all day long. The longest drive was five plays 22 yards other than one touchdown drive. Seven plays 11 yards on a field goal. I mean, that was they had Ohio State turned the ball over a couple times and handed, you know, that handed Maryland's, but 10 points.

Yeah. I think so. The defense you look at the defense three and out three and out. Seven plays 11 yards on a sudden change. You give up a field goal on 11 yards. You take that. The one touchdown drive. Sure. Then a three and out. Then seven plays 14 yards on lost it on downs after half time. Four and out five and out five and out four and out and then end of game. It just they outside of the one drive from Maryland, the Ohio State defense just kind of got off the field now. I have not I did not I don't have a good view of whatever was happening in the secondary at that point. So I will I may have a different opinion once I go back and get a chance to rewatch the TV copy. But you you watch that and you looked at Maryland just never got anything going. And then you get a round and get anything going in the air. It just kind of never really got go. No. And again, that's an ability to pick up third downs. They were three of four three of 12. Oh, for one on fourth down really just didn't have the ball a bunch either. Only 53 plays to Ohio State 69 and could not run the ball. There was nothing there.

There was nothing there was nothing there. It was not there. It was not there. We had a great time. The rain of the 28 for 82 where. There's there's no threat. They don't you know, one weighs at the one. One run of like 13 yards, but I say didn't really good job of shutting that down. Eight beers. I thought I had some good plays in there against the run. right now because that was the play that was first in goal at the nine on that one that Maryland drive. And then what happens after that? Yeah. They have a delay of game penalty on Quay Rousseau. I don't know I didn't see what he did. Yeah, and I was trying to watch TV to see what they said. And I did not. Yeah, I don't know if that's the disconcerting signals, but usually there's a war. They usually will announce to them certainly signals. So yeah, I don't know what I don't know what it was, but he got a delay of game penalty on the defense. And then you had a J-LIM claim offside penalty. And so the last time you saw safety offside. A safety offside and a defensive the way of game. Yeah, back to back. So you go from second and goal at the 15 to second and

goal at the five and then Mollip Washing to run to quarterback drive. It was even the touchdown that they got. It felt like they all have to defense kind of win. You know, like we're going to like playing a candy land with your grandmother. She's like we're going to move your piece a little closer. Yeah. Now, and there was a pretty easy touchdown run in for Mollip Washing to there. Super chat from Mike Ferguson here at this rate. Number four Jeremiah Smith will win the high as when the last fuck out of win it. Troy Smith, a Smith to Smith connection. I think I was at Tim May or I forget who I was talking to last week or a couple of weeks ago said that they're going to have to put a tee on the the Troy Smith. Uh-huh. You know, a sign so that they can add a J Smith up there as well. I'm or just maybe Smith's. You don't need same signs at an S at the end. Four slash 10. Yeah, maybe. Um, but yeah, right now as we started out the start of the show, I don't think you did anything to hurt his his eyes been odds and chances here because again, there's there's production there's touchdowns and again, there's highlights and that's what the

voters are going to see from the screen. Right. Exactly. And what really matters is you're going to see that's all you're going to see from this game. What matters is what does he do next week? What does he do? It's Charlie Becker in the Nick Marshall. Yeah, what does he do in Indiana next week? What does he do at USC in a couple is because those are games everyone's watching the Indiana game. When people are watching the USC game, when people are going to be watching that work in games, those are the games that people are watching where that's where you've got to okay show up. And right now it's his to look he is better than even money right now. I saw an updated odds at one point in the middle of the game and he's like better than even money to win the Heisman. So it's not even Jeremiah Smith or the field is like Jeremiah Smith or the field that you've got to lay you got to lay a little extra to take Jeremiah Smith, which this is this is the one year where the highlights, the stats and who is literally the best player in college football. They're all pointing to the same thing. Yeah, it's all lining up for him. But now you know that's a good six games. Now you've got

seven more six or seven more. Well, here's the thing. This is this is one of these things that sounds you know what you just said is you're only halfway through the regular season. What I heard is holy crap, they're already halfway through the regular season. It feels a group just in here football stayed like two weeks ago. Yeah. And we're halfway through the regular season already. And it is like it seems like a long time ago. We're not going to be back in this stadium until November 7th when they play Oregon. They think it's almost a home almost a whole month off before they play another home game. This is like San Antonio Spurs when the circus comes to town and they're just on the road traveling. It's the the the old joke at Madison Square Garden. It was that the Westminster dog show is when you know Madison Square Garden is home to a bunch of pamper overpriced pooches and then and then the Nixon Rangers leave and they bring in the Westman dog show. That's that's the old joke from the from the 1980s. So where do we want to go from here?

You know, I'll say again nice job by Cam Calhoun stepping in at quarter in Jermaine Matthews moving inside. No Leroy Roker. So you had Earl at all staying up staying in the game. Query Russoff had another he has some moments where he makes plays like he's very athletic and he's making some plays that are similar similar to what we saw from our Valarice this past week with a Giants where he's being blocked by Paris Johnson. It gets off of him and tackles the former Notre Dame running back in the back. I love Jermaine love in the backfield. So like Query Russoff has some of that. I look just as an example. I made a similar play where he was able to get outside and make some plays and of course Andrew Kusin has talked about but no sacks and really they're trying to get rid of the ball quickly and it's not like Malik Washington was just dropping back and surveying things today. No, definitely not but yeah the past rush was better it felt like

I thought there was some some noticeable progress there which is good that you that's what you need you've got to get that because you're you have to they have to be able to contain the Ron contain the pass get to the get to Josh Hoover next week because this is not you know this is not Fernando Mendoza this is a guy who's good solid quarterback but not incredible not outstanding. I'm fascinated to go back and watch that Indiana Nebraska game because I feel like we're going to probably have a lot of insight into what Indiana really is this year because that's the best game they've played. Yeah and there was one play where they should have had him and he was able to escape for a first down and I don't know what kind of impact that had on the game because it was so long ago today but there were some opportunities for Nebraska to bring him down and he was able to escape at least that once but yeah and they were also playing in some gusty winds like oh yeah 35 to 60 mile per hour gusts and you still throwing that I mean we've seen that yeah well yeah we've

seen that I saw you see them attempt it I saw a text from our buddy Marcus who was trying to thinking that maybe the last time I was hit at a defensive game where they didn't give up an explosive play was that 2022 Northwestern game in the Gale Force wins so we are going to let you hear real quickly from Edric Houston just a couple questions with him I just was over there for about a minute and a half want to let you hear from him real quick since we were just talking about the defense yeah we got Edric we got Nate Roberts we also have something for Michael Petit one of our scheming sideers we'll get to a little later on in the show but here is Edric Houston some of the some quick thoughts from him after the game. I'd like to see my team Lizzie like last week my kids are at the strip sack to start off the game it it lit me up and I'm like okay our Kansas pocket close pocket and it allowed my hands to eat and that's what I got to do so I'm not really looking big on stats if I make plays I'll make them but I'm living for my two minutes to eat right especially a coast of defense my back is ready so so it's these are so it's easy though

everybody wants to be the guy next to play is that easy to just yeah I'm great with Ben just playing my road with all men it's great just I'm still making plays and knocking it back and doing what I need to do but same time my brothers are in as well so it feels great. Edric after that Illinois game Kenyatta came into the media room except like guys gotta stop playing here or more and it seems like it's last two weeks to do it or on it's taking that big stack what was the message who was that week like after that game and then how do you feel like it's continued for this group of the life I mean we won but the deal out was pissed because we don't want anybody coming out of the house with 200 yards that's pitiful so we just pissed from Sunday when we had a practice we pissed in we all striking sled then because you're like we need this look as first never let out again so that's why I still say right but 82 yards that day is too much all right so there you go a little from Edric Houston he's always interesting to talk to

he's always a he'll go yeah yeah yeah he and I think he has had some real tangible progress the last couple weeks because I mean two three weeks ago we were looking at Edric Houston and going we were expecting more here and he hadn't really shown up he had a really good game last week against Iowa had another solid game here one and a half tackles for loss yeah I mean that's and that's what you want if you if you're getting that out of your three tackles you're going to take that every every every week absolutely yeah 100% um can you have a Jackson's out there getting after him as well but still couldn't couldn't bring a milk washing to him down oh but man it's going to be so interesting see if Jay Timmans can get back next week the second area is going to be very very tested next week against Indiana and I think is if if Ohio State is not a concern or a past rushing threats and Indiana thinks they can just drop back and throw down

field they've got the receivers to make that work for them oh high-stage corners haven't been tested like the since the Texas game and while they held up at times they still also gave up some potential plays that didn't happen but but we're not talking to our community we're talking to Josh freaking Hoover um you you you are yes this is this is a game where you've got it they have to be able to put together their best game as a defense right now because they had three quarters of a very good game in Texas man and boy you look back at that one it's like I mean yeah not that there was ever a moment where you didn't think oh boy they're gonna want that one back but man oh man they're gonna want that one back it's not a bad loss yet it's not a bad loss it's and it's not going to be a bad loss because this is Texas has played well reasonably well since then but at this point this is this is a year where I think you very well might have I don't think

you're gonna have an upbeat team at this point and I don't know that you're gonna have uh I don't know that you're gonna have that many one loss teams I think there's gonna be a lot of 10 and 2 in the in the monitors this season yeah and uh question here from by brown to graph what's your opinion on which coach can use their games to their benefit more sig with the Nebraska game Ryan Day with the Maryland game I'll tell you they're both gonna maximize the usage of that I do you think it's better for a higher state that Indiana was able to win oh 100% 100% not even a question because if if Indiana wins then the narrative going into this game is well you know Indiana they're gonna find a way they they haven't lost yet the eight last time they lost was Notre Dame in the you know freezing cold the last time Indiana lost Ohio State had never played a game in a 12 team college football player I mean that's yeah you're you're you're you're almost two years at this point and so Indiana finds a way it's going to be the story as a and and Nebraska

finds a way brackets derogatory is also going to be part of the story but if if Indiana loses then the story is Indiana clown frauds and uh product of a soft schedule right yeah so Ohio State has dodged that bullet so now now you're not gonna have anglo you you always have angry crit signety but you're not gonna have angry off a lost crit signety I asked Julian hey you know how often do you think of the Indiana law as this one been circled on their calendar he just said yeah you know it's defending national champ so we're looking forward to it uh he just he gives you nothing yeah so someone who did give you something was Nate Roberts tight ends boom transition and so this was I'm gonna give you just a couple minutes of the Nate Roberts interview it starts with me asking him about that long touchdown reception and he gets asked about that a little bit but it ends with him talking a little bit about Indiana and I think it sounds like he had more to say than Julian say I don't know you're right I'll you walk walk I said that touchdown yeah uh coach Smith put us in a great

uh situation the succeed and there's a great passing catch uh Julian stayed uh strong in the pocket took the hit but it delivered a great pass and you know it made it easy on my on my and just have to make the catch and run as hard as I could and uh glad I made it made it in an in-zone just there's a great passing catch for us one year group yeah yeah when you turn and see nothing but green grass in front of you what's going through your head yeah um as the play was developing I I saw the safety uh bail out and I I received the ball and just you know when it looks like that I was running as hard as I could and I was able to peak up at the jumbo tron a little bit but not too much so I'll just make sure I wasn't getting a hawk down how representative would say performance of how the paydum's group went into receiving it yeah no doubt um especially with BI and Dev and Down uh in pre-game and figuring that out like coach he really made an emphasis on the tidying group that we needed a step up uh for this offense and that's I feel like that's exactly what we did today me and Mason getting in and it was big time so uh just trying to develop

and I think we're having challenges each week and uh just having two touchdowns you know that's that's great and uh I mean Coach he was very happy so we're all happy so what was it like great to see Mason's score and what work has been in oh yeah he's done a great job he's such a smart player and he he he's a he's a great player and just seeing that right in front of my eyes uh just obviously the ball was going to him and um it was great seeing him like that excited and just having the whole offense there and celebrating though it was a great one when you do a lot of the dirty work when you know you're in numbers might be called on play like you had what's that what's that mean to you yeah uh having the opportunity to get the ball obviously um it doesn't matter if I'm getting the ball or not I'm gonna go hard every single play but you know there's always a chance that we're gonna get the ball and when it's thrown to us we got to execute and try to get in them zone that's what we did today so we really got the run game going in a second how good that feels when it was addition to getting the two. Oh it was great um glad we were executing the run

game and I think we needed that and just a show that we can do that and uh execute efficiently. How quick is the mental turnover in Indiana and what are you expecting? As soon as those uh as soon as the clock hit zero we were on to Indiana obviously we have practiced more we're going to clean some stuff up um from the game today and kind of just overlap that into Indiana and set the mindset for Indiana and know that this is going to be a tough game and tough environment but you know we've played into tough environments already like Texas and Iowa so we're prepared and we're ready to go. It's uh the year of the tight end time as you know so two touchdowns for the Ohio State Titans today Nate Roberts on that one's wide open yeah I immediately had to tweet out hey just so you know the last time in the Ohio State Titan went over 100 yards with Jeff Hyerman in 2013 because I thought you know surely you get 68 yards that early you're gonna find another 32 somewhere if they're not gonna defend you you're gonna want to go to him so he continues to really do what we thought he would do where he is the tight end and he can play in any

any down any distance and he's just a sophomore and to get this much out of him like he's gonna be around for a little bit longer yeah and he's gonna just continue to blossom and progress I mean yeah he's still just this yeah you know what's gonna you know whether the ball is coming to me that's great if you know I'm still just gonna be working hard like uh what a local home a kid yep if I recall correctly and this very matter of fact and I'll do whatever takes I'll do you know that that's that's what I'm here for no big deal whatever well and that's kind of what it means to be a tight end is I'll do it you know you're gonna he at one point said that you know they wanted to show that they're more than just run blockers but and they are but that's there's an awful lot of that job that's very thankful like there's there's a whole lot of you're playing 40 snaps and you're blocking or you're running around where they don't throw you the ball uh and you know the big payoff is two catches for 13 yards like that's kind of what that position is spiritually especially at Ohio State over the years but he he I think is he's he's someone who

going into the year we said he's gonna be one of the most improved most improved in terms of the eyes of Ohio State fans over the course of the year because last year he was the full back that everyone kind of crumbled when he was out there you saw this is not just a fillback this is a guy can make plays in the passing game and I think that was an important thing for Ohio State to put on film because now you have to pay attention to him which means someone else whether it's Deb McEwen or Jeremiah Smith or Brandon Mimis or someone else is not going to have that extra defender if you have to pay attention to that's I'm stuck Tom ahead I think this is at least a second 30 yard plus because then the throwback against Texas was at least 30 some yards big plates I did an explosive play that and that was that was just a smart play that was just a savvy play now he caught he was like an arm pump saying because he was way on the other side of the field and you know and that was not like it was a bad throw it was a there's a reason you don't ever make that throw and that's

because the ball hangs up in the air backwards like the Braxton Miller throw to Devon Smith the beat Wisconsin in 2001 where it's like boy that balls in the air quite a long time but he was so open that it came down for the defender to get there and he's made some really tough catches this year and clutch catches third downs things like that you're talking about the thanklessness of you two catches for 13 yards for whatever it's like yes and one of those is like a three yard catch on third nine and there's just like no point to it you know the box clearance like you didn't do anything and brother who watched the film I'm doing stuff on every single snap and it's it's not easy no it is definitely not easy we should get to the super tread here from Mike Farino said sorry I'm coming in late so you guys probably is already discussed this and we have but that's okay he says Isaiah West shouldn't see the field again after his attempt to get sand killed and we talked about this earlier but I don't I think that was his opportunity to show that he deserves more time because he has clearly fallen a little bit behind Jackson and Jackson and you have to

when you have that opportunity to show hey I have a long here too make the most of it you've got to be out there you've got to be the guy who's doing the thankless you know Jacobi Jackson is the guy who's just kind of doing all the stuff he's he's picking up blitzes for the I mean again I maybe he missed a bunch of blitz pickups today or something like that but I didn't I I can't see it from where I'm watching the game from but over the course of the season he's been the veteran guy kind of does all the stuff and two catch it today too yeah yeah just just a little bit of this a little bit of that but is like drive keeps the pot you know keeps they were they were several times where it's like you know from where I'm watching the game from the running back just kind of goes into a massive bodies and there's a sort of a normal rhythm to it where they hit the pile and then everyone falls down and it you hit the pile and you're sort of waiting and they're not falling down and like people seem like they're getting a little closer it's like the piles just kind of creeping down the field a little bit that's the stuff that Carlos Lachlan has to love that

Arthur Smith has to love that Ryan Day has to love that yeah Ohio State for three for three on four downs and I don't know if it was a third down or a fourth down bow jacks and I thought for sure he can get stopped behind the line and then he gets to the line and then he gets to first down and it's it was like you know third and third one or fourth and one but he just kept driving and that was the depressing one he also had another like five yard run earlier in the game like very early in the game and he got hit and like you know at one yard and then just kept moving forward and sometimes these you know why isn't he breaking tackles even aside from breaking tackles just the tackles taking longer to happen you know you they want him to pick up two yards after kind of tacked as they're being tackled and he was doing three and four yards I think he did a good job not just falling forward but bringing people with him as he did that yeah yeah he's he's it feels like every week we have a slightly different conversation about bow jacks and then it's like some weeks it's boy what an encouraging performance from bow jacks and some weeks it's boy

last week was a really encouraging performance from bow jacks and this was this felt like a good encouraging week and it was also you look at the the rushing stats 23 carries 107 yards not exciting not explosive I mean long to 25 but just going through the not the rushes the three seven six one nine five three five five negative two six eight one three twenty five that was the touchdown six three four six two two negative three two but you know you get you go through the basically the start of the fourth quarter he's he's basically you know he finished two two negative three two before that man there's a lots of fours and fives and sixes that consistency if they can do this in Indiana and boy is that is the biggest if they can do anything close to that in Indiana that's going to be really important man you know as everybody's watching them for a high state friends are watching this watching the Nebraska Indiana game rooting for Nebraska

just because everybody loves to see an upset but now that you've got a higher state going to an undefeated Indiana and I think I wrote today's biggest thing to Indianis is Jack and Diane and I'm not familiar with them but this is going to be the biggest home game in the NFL ball history yeah oh not even not even a question like there's there's I don't know what second place is but this is we're going to cover this game yes yes yes so yeah not yet signed up and fuck our insiders.com we recommend that you do that because we're going to cover you can talk about it and get some x's and knows about it this is going to be a cover like a playoff game like a ball game like it's all hands on deck no sleep till Brooklyn that one Vegas or no sleep till blooming too yeah that that's that's a really interesting game because it's going to be covered like a playoff game because it a loss here would not not go high state out of the playoff but a loss would put them on don't lose another one a loss removes most of your margin for error

and doesn't necessarily remove all of your margin for error which goes back to the conversation about all the other teams that are losing games right now but and that's also having a loss to Texas for a higher state if Texas ends up a three-loss team and Ohio State isn't three-loss team right well you're going to be measured against Texas measure against Texas that's dangerous yes Mike Ferguson says score update Purdue 13 minutes for the three offseason 41 Michigan 7 well you know offseason this tough especially around Michigan it is yes that is a tough tough you never want to see offseason on the on the schedule Michigan is where next week but I have shut out Michigan for my brain what a what a great question that we do because they need to go Penn State right Penn State yes oh I can't run the ball against Penn State at Penn State 1717 right now or against USC as the last I saw yeah Penn State and Michigan in next weekend Indiana visiting Michigan at the week after that so that's they've they've got a couple

challenging ones ahead we've got a couple photos of Jeremiah Smith I wanted to sort of throw in there man watching him turn to corner and run down the sideline yeah and Jack and I were saying the same thing I I think the second one it is like his feet were going moving too fast and it looked like he was just gonna start stumbling over himself and then he had to stop slow down so that he can let you know juckeye defender just let him run by or whatever like kind of let Wiley Coyote go by that sort of thing man Tommy's pretty good he's pretty special but also it shouldn't be that fast yeah it feels like he he showed his entire sorry to interrupt you but like he showed all of the other things today the speed the hands were it's not just oh he's just this downfield guy no as I tweeted like he's a screen merchant now he's he's the guy it's it's you know your friend has invited you over to play a video game and has a creative player where all the spiders are up to 99 that's him it just there was a play where he was just blocking and

it was just like yep he's driving the guy back it's just all of the things he just kind of does all of the things do we have anything else do we want to get to our Michael Pettigay? I would do that what do we want to do okay so we're gonna wrap this up I do wrap it so we'll wrap it up with Michael Pettigay with his thoughts he's one of our skim and ciders and Bucket and centers that got one of the three that we rely on and he's usually he's a defensive guy he likes the defense don't talk to about offense he just you know but he covers it all he's gonna give you his thoughts on this and then that will do it from us here thank you all for tuning in don't go anywhere just watch that and then again come find us over at bucket and centers.com this is a big week coming up and it's a big second half of the season coming up so here's Michael Pettigay what's going on guys Michael Pettigay and ciders.com just gonna give my three takeaways from Ohio states victory over Maryland today first things first this will be a fun one because I only have one complaint I usually come on here and complain about a lot of things but so we'll start off get the

negative out of the way first the past protection from the running backs in particular is a major major problem I mean it was pretty bad last year but at least you had CJ Dawson it was good in the past protection game you don't have anyone like that this year so all three of them are essentially letting say and get drilled this is a problem last week and it was a problem today and I know it's easy to just blame the offensive line when a quarterback gets hit or sacked but you know I'm watching the film and stuff and it's it's the running backs they're not picking up men it's a it's a major problem it's got to get fixed it's really not fair the offensive line who's doing a relatively decent job because you know then they get blamed for it but yeah I don't really know what needs to be done to fix that but it can't go for I mean it's gonna it'll be a huge problem next week with Indiana that's just my opinion and so it's something to look out for but now let's finish on a couple positive notes uh first of all the defense today really good

in every aspect of the game the run defense in particular was phenomenal I'm so happy to be sitting here saying that because I wasn't really convinced that the run defense was fixed after Iowa I thought some the stats were a little misleading and I thought Iowa could have ran the ball more and more effectively than they did in Iowa kind of foolishly committed to the past for some reason but today the run defense was solid all around and I thought the linebacker play was pretty good the defensive line play was really good last week I said eddrick Houston at the best game of his career against Iowa he had another phenomenal game today and really the entire front front six front seven was just great and uh the secondary was good too or a little and jalen mcclain both were very active in the run game which you know I love to see that from safeties so big props to the defense I know Maryland's not exactly a world-beater offense but that's what I want the defense to look like against a team like that uh second or last thing third thing that I will end on here today uh from the

offense you know the offense was good but the running game in particular I was really happy with I thought the running backs jacobie Jackson and bow Jackson ran the ball very well a lot of yards after contact bow Jackson even had it an explosive and so but you know what that said we're there still not getting a bunch of explosives but they still deserve credit for the extra yards they're getting you know turning five yard gains and a nine yard gains three yard gains and a six yard gains and so on so big shout out to the running backs I thought they were great today and I'm really happy with we weigh the offense looks right now so those are my three takeaways michael pettit slow it up
