About this episode
“episode 4206, the lies that feel like home. Mom's, it's time to rediscover, rejuvenate and renew who you are in mind body and spirit. Here's your host, certified life coach, personal trainer and nutritionist, Christian Wardo.”From the transcript
Some lies announce themselves. They crash into your day with a voice so sharp you know immediately something is wrong. But the most dangerous lies aren't shouted out loud. They whisper. They've been whispering so long you stopped recognizing them as anything other than your own voice — and that is exactly what makes the lies that feel like home so hard to leave behind.
You know the ones. I'm not enough. It's too late for me. Everyone else has it figured out. They don't feel like attacks. They feel like facts.

They've lived in you for so long — through rejection, through loss, through seasons that knocked the wind out of you — that they've settled in like furniture. You don't even bump into them anymore. You just walk around them.
But here's what I need you to hear today: just because a thought has been with you for years doesn't mean it belongs to you.
As Jennie Allen reminds us in Get Out of Your Head, the most dangerous lies aren't the ones we fight — they're the ones we never think to question. And she's right. When a lie has lived in you long enough, it stops sounding like an intruder. It sounds like you. It wears your voice, carries your memories, and uses your worst moments as evidence.
Think about it. Nobody sat you down one day and said, "Here — believe this about yourself." It happened slowly. A rejection in middle school. A careless comment from someone you trusted. A failure that confirmed what you were already afraid of. And then one day, without ever making a conscious decision, you accepted it. You stopped questioning it. You started building your life around it.
That's how lies become home. Not because they're true, but because they're familiar.
But God never called you to live in a house built on lies.
John 8:32 says, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Free. Not managed. Not coped with. Free. The truth doesn't just challenge the lie — it dismantles it. But you have to be willing to name what you've been carrying before you can set it down.
And here's where it gets beautifully personal. The truth God speaks over you isn't generic. It's specific. It's intimate.
1 John 3:1 says, "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"
That's not a suggestion. That's a declaration. You are not what the lie says. You are what your Father says. And He says you are His. So let it go, and name it to break it.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Name it to break it!
So let me ask you this: if someone handed you a script right now — every negative thing you believe about yourself, written in black and white — would you hand it to your daughter? Would you read it over your best friend? Then why are you still reading it over yourself?
It's time to call the lies out. Not next month. Not when you feel ready. Right now. Here's your Keep It Simple Strategy for this week. DOWNLOAD HERE!
1. Tell the Truth about the Lies.
Grab a journal or even the back of an envelope — whatever's close. Write down the three statements you most often say about yourself when no one is listening. Not the polished version. Not the one you'd share in a small group. The raw, unfiltered script that runs on repeat when you're alone in the car or staring at the ceiling at 2 a.m.
Be honest — don't soften them. You can't evict a lie you won't name. Seeing it in your own handwriting is the first act of courage.
2. Let God Talk Back.
Next to each lie, write what God says about you instead — and use Scripture as your source, not your feelings. Feelings shift; His Word doesn't.
If the lie is "I'm not enough," counter it with Ephesians 2:10: "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works."
If it's "It's too late," try Jeremiah 29:11 or Isaiah 43:19.
If it's "Nobody really sees me," anchor into 1 John 3:1: "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!"
Don't rush this step. Let the contrast sit on the page — lies on the left, truth on the right — and notice how different they sound when they're side by side.
3. Replace One Lie — Out Loud.
You don't have to conquer all three this week. Pick the one that has the deepest grip — the lie that shows up most often or hurts the most — and commit to actively replacing it. Every single time it surfaces, speak the truth out loud. In your kitchen. In the car. In the mirror. Your ears need to hear your mouth agree with God, even if your voice shakes while you say it.
Repetition isn't weakness — it's retraining. You didn't learn the lie overnight, and you won't unlearn it overnight either. But every time you speak truth over that lie, you loosen its hold.
The lies you've been living with don't deserve the space they've been taking up. They moved in uninvited, and they've overstayed their welcome. You have the authority — through Christ — to show them the door. Not because you're strong enough on your own, but because the One who lives in you is stronger than the voice that's been lying to you.
You don't have to have it all figured out by Friday. You just have to start. One lie. One truth. One brave, shaky declaration spoken out loud in your kitchen while the coffee brews. You are enough!
"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

Okay, you know what today is, Monday Quarterbacking. Oh yes, let's look back on a few things. How was your weekend? Was it good? I hope it was good. I hope you feel a little refreshed. Can you believe it? We are officially in the first full week of October of 2026. Welcome. If you missed out on September, we'll wake up because October is here. You're in the last quarter of 2026. So hold on. I know we're in for a ride. And for those of you who are thinking about Halloween, awesome. You're already late because I think they're already putting out Christmas and they have been since like May or June. So I mean, just grab hold because I don't know what it is. You get to this part in life and you're just like, it goes faster and faster and faster. And the older you get, it's like, doesn't time go faster. It doesn't. It feels like it. Right? As kids, we have no concept of times. But as adults, it's like, well, wait, we do have a concept of time. But then the time, because we're getting older, it's like we want to cherish it more. And we feel like our life is like limited now.
As a kid, you don't see it as being limited, but as an adult, you do. And that really does taint how we see our lives. It taints our thoughts. Right? What do we do in our mind? The things that we tell ourselves, those little whispers, because you know, some lies announce themselves. They crash into your day with a voice so sharp you know immediately something's wrong. It's full on alarm time. BOOBOOBOOBOOBOOB, right? But the most dangerous lies aren't shouted out loud. They whisper. In fact, they've been whispering so long you stop recognizing them as anything other than your own voice. And that is exactly what makes the lies feel like home so hard to leave behind. Because they're comfortable, right? And you know those ones? Hmm, I'm not good enough. It's too late for me. Everyone else has it figured out. Why do they need me? They don't feel like attacks.
They feel like facts. And they live in you for so long through rejection, through loss, through grief, through seasons that knock the wind out of you, that they settled in like furniture. Now, they're pain rent. You don't even bump into them anymore. You just walk around them. No big deal. They're here. But this is the here, H-E-A-R, that I want you to lean in on today. Just because a thought has been with you for years, decades, does not mean it belongs to you. As author Jenny Allen reminds us in her book Get Out of Your Head, the most dangerous lies aren't the ones we fight, right? The ones we never think to question. And she's right. When a lie has lived in you long enough, it stops sounding like an intruder. There's no, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, right? All the old fashioned sound effects back in the day. I know, but it doesn't. It sounds more like you. Not good enough, Sue.
You're not good enough, Pam. What were you thinking, Kristie? Kristie ain't come on. You can do better than this. Oh, Christine, what is your issue? Kim, where are you going? You knew this didn't work that time. Why are you trying this time? And it wears your voice. Proudly, I mean to the point where you think, AI's an issue? Oh, oh, oh, AI has nothing when it comes to your own lies that you tell yourself. Because not only does it wear your voice, but it carries your memories. And it uses your worst moments as evidence. I'm thinking about it. Nobody set you down one day and said, here, believe this about yourself. I mean, really seriously, when did anybody say to you directly, you need to start thinking this, I'm not good enough. Nobody, right? It's just this collection. And it happened slowly over time at rejection in middle school, right? Didn't make it on Varsie.
You made it on JV or the A team versus the B team or the C team for some bigger schools. A careless comment from someone you trusted. A failure that confirmed what you already were afraid of. And then one day, without ever making a conscious decision, you accepted it. Like, okay, this is me. You stopped questioning it. You started building your life around it. That's how lies become home. Not because they're true, but because they're familiar. But you need to hear this also. God never called you to live in a house built on lies. John 8.32 says, then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Freedom. That's what you want, right? Free. Not managed, not coped with, but free. The truth doesn't just challenge the lie. It dismantles it. It tears it apart, but you have to be willing to name what you've been carrying before you
can set it down. And here's where it gets really, really personal. So take a step back because I know it's Monday. Monday quarterback game, right? Well, sometimes it's hard. Did you watch your games? Oh, man, there were some good games on. I watched this one. It was a late night game. Oh, now I can't remember the team. Oh, yes, I can't hold on. I think it was Montana State against. I think it was North Dakota. Oh, if it not, North Dakota, I'm so sorry if I got that wrong. No, no, that is wrong. It's not North Dakota. It was Idaho. Anyway, it was Montana State in Idaho. Montana undefeated. I think they were 5 and 0 when I watched this on. I think it was Friday night. And oh, my goodness, it was the last second. Idaho came out with the win and took out the number one Montana State. Can you believe it the last second? You see because Idaho didn't believe the lies. They didn't believe that they couldn't play ball. Good ball, great ball. And said they said, no, we're going to dismantle that.
And we're going to work on it this week because our main goal is to play the ball and play the game of football that we know how. So we can beat Montana State and up till literally the very, very, very, very, very last second. And they won the game. It was electrifying. I mean, it was like one something in the morning. I'm watching this game, Central Standard Time. I was just like, why am I up? I'm like, I'm up for these kind of moments. And this is where it gets beautifully personal for you, my friend. The truth God speaks over you isn't generic. It's personal. It's specific. It's intimate. He has got a game plan for you. First John 3 verse 1 says, see what great love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are. It's a declaration. No suggestion here. You are not what the lie says. You are what your Father says. He says you're his.
So let it go and name it to break it. Shatter the lies. That is your kiss to keep a simple strategy. Name it to break it. Don't sit there and act like, I can just tell it to go away. I'm telling you right now you cannot. This is a stuff that's like corroded in the nooks and crannies of your heart. And it just eats and rots out your soul. It does. And when something big is about to happen or there's an opportunity and it could be anything, I mean, and when I say something big, I'm not talking about like you're going to go to the moon or something and be on Artemis. I'm not saying anything like that. If you are, that's great. I'm going to celebrate you. Right? Let's do space travel. But what I'm saying is that out of this world experienced, yeah, let's go into space. Type of feeling comes when you say, wait, I am not that. I'm a child of God. I am loved.
I am forgiven. And I can do better. I can be who I am now and still become who he wants me to be. So let me ask you this. If someone handed you a script right now and every negative thing you believed about yourself was written in black and white, would you hand it to your daughter? Think about that. Don't just jump. Would you read it over your best friend? Then why are you still reading it over yourself? I know that's kind of the gut punch, isn't it? We all do it, including me. I'm guilty. I mean, I was just guilty yesterday. Had this whole conversation in my head. Those quiet conversations are, oh my goodness, they can derail you in a heartbeat. And those little conversations, they're not like you're sitting around there for an hour going, okay, Christine, you're thinking this and then you thought this and then you did this.
No, it's not. It's a split second of a moment. And you've already had a dissertation written in your head and you have validated the lie before you even had the opportunity to tell yourself the truth. Ouch. I mean, that is real life, my friend. And we all need to be pulled out of that ditch. Name it to break it. So it's time to call up the lies, all right? Don't wait till next month. Don't put this off. You can do this even as crazy of a busy schedule. You're going to take it small, very, very small little steps, right? One step at a time, these some miles of greatness, right? Not when you feel ready because you're ready right now, right? To create your now. So name it to break it. What does it look like in real life? Number one, tell the truth about the lies. So maybe grab a journal. I love writing. I think it's important. Pinned to paper. If you're like, nope, I'm all about typing, then great, type it out. But I want you to write it out.
And I would even grab something like write the second. Now if you're driving, you can't do it. So I would like, you can still listen to this, but come back. Remember this timestamp? Look at it real quick. Got it? Okay. Come back. And I want you to grab whatever piece of paper. Maybe it's the back of an envelope. My kids know my mom writes on napkins. I don't know what it is. Why? Because I always have a napkin around. I always have a napkin, whether it's to set my drink on, whether it's just to wipe my fingers because I'm writing a lot or I'm on the computer. I always want to make sure my fingertips are slightly clean. So there's always a napkin closer to me than even sometimes my own phone. So I've got a pen. I don't have to have paper, but I can have a napkin, right? Write whatever down. Three statements though. You most often say about yourself when no one is listening. You might be in the same room with your kiddos, your spouse is sitting there, the puppy dogs are there, and you're just enjoying an afternoon. And all of a sudden you're like, pop, it pops in your head. You know what it is? Write it down. Write it down. And if you're like, well, how Christiana is you're coming like really fast?
Great. Write them all down. But you're not going to deal with all of them now because you'll be overwhelmed. Okay? We're just starting with three. Okay? We're taking them one step at a time, right? Three of them. And I don't want you to try to make it all polished. Like don't sit there and edit it. Write exactly down what you say in your own mind. So if it's, you're not good enough idiot. Write that down. I'm sorry if little kids were listening. Do not say that word. It's not very nice. And seriously, we say those stupid things to ourselves. And they are that. And all they do is put ourselves down and we believe it over and over again. So write exactly down what you say. You're not looking good today. Boy, you really look fat. I mean, like seriously, what is it? What pops up for you? And I don't want you to polish it out even to the point of, I would share this with a small group. No, I want you to share it real and raw. Okay? So what do you say exactly what you say? The unfiltered script that runs on repeat when you're alone in the car or staring at the ceiling at 2 a.m. You've been there.
Done that, right? Mm-hmm. We all have. Be honest. Don't soften it up. You can't evict a lie. You won't name. Seeing it in your own handwriting is the first act of courage. In my friend, you got to be brave. And you can do it. So tell the truth about the lies. Number two, let God talk back. You're like, what? I know. Next to each lie, I want you to write what God says about you instead. So you scripture as your source, not your feelings. Feeling shift. His word does not. If the lie is, I'm not enough, counter it with Ephesians 210 for we are God's handy work created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Maybe if it's, okay, it's just too late already. I'm not going to write Jeremiah 29 11 or Isaiah 43 19. Maybe if you say, nobody really sees me, anchor it into 1 John 3 verse 1. See what great love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of
God. Don't rush the step, okay? Grab your Bible. If you're like Christian, I just, I don't know how to find this stuff great. Guess what? Google it. This is a good time to use some Google, okay? Now, don't trust always what Google prints out. Like look at some of the Bible verses and then go look them up in your Bible. That's what I would tell you to do, okay? I do that if I'm doing a quick Google search because I am not a theologian. I do not claim to be, okay? I am all about taking what I read in the Bible and applying it. I want to take the parables. I want to take what God has said. What the scriptures say. God's word breathed, right? I want to take that. And how do I apply it to my every day? How do we walk every day? God's way. That's what this is all about. Creature now. But it's not knowing it all, right? I don't want to know it all. I want to learn and I want to live. Yes, if I can, that's great.
And by repetition, I will. But I'm not perfect. So I don't have all these things memorized. And so I don't expect you to either. So you should resources. So Google it. And I want to say this, if you get that, double check your Bible versus say, oh, I kind of like this one. Great. Then go back and then read it in context, okay? Take out the verse, see what it says for support. But then I want you to look at it in context. Don't rush the step, right? Let the contrast sit on the page. What you have said about yourself. Oh, wait, what God knows now, right? What He says about you. And on the left, the lies, the truth on the right. And notice how different they sound when they're side by side. Look at them, read them, highlight them, make the words bigger. If you're one who likes to journal, this is a great thing to journal. It really, really is. And then finally, number three, replace one lie out loud. You don't have to conquer all three this week. You don't. You got the three.
Just take one. Pick the one that's the deepest grip, right? The lie that shows up most often, or maybe hurts more and commit to actively replacing it. Every single time it surfaces, speak the truth out loud in the kitchen, in the car, in the mirror. Your ears need to hear your mouth agree with God, even if your voice shakes while you say it. So whatever that is, if you're saying, I'm not good enough, I'm not enough. Nope. For we are God's handiwork. I am God's handiwork. Now if you're one who says, Christian, I don't memorize scripture great. Okay, that's okay. There's nothing wrong with that. But make it to where you will understand it. So for we are God's handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, say, I am God's handiwork created in Christ Jesus. And I can do good works. Whatever it is, however it is, so it means something to you, right? Repetition is not weakness. You're retraining your ears.
You're retraining your heart. Right? Because you've got to change your thoughts to change your actions. You didn't learn the lie overnight and you're not going to unlearn it overnight either. How long did it take you to get to where you are now? How old are you? Okay, don't tell me or you can tell me. But every time you speak truth over that lie, you loosen its grip. That's the key. The lies you've been living with don't deserve the space they've been taking up. They've moved in and invited and they've overstayed their welcome. It's time to evict them. No more. You have the authority along with Christ, right? God's with you to show them to the door. Goodbye. You're no longer welcome. And honestly, this doesn't mean that you're strong enough that you've got it all put together no. It's because God who lives in you is stronger than the voice it's been lying to you.
And that's the key. You're not alone in this. My friend, you don't have to have it off-figured out by Friday. You don't. This is a journey for a reason, right? But you do have to start. One lie, one truth, one brave, yes, maybe a little shaky, declaration spoken out loud. Whether it's in your kitchen, while the coffee brews, whether you're driving your kids to their activities, you are enough. Go in peace. Be present. Be incredible. Be you. I love you so very much.
